Prefect's Report
OpeningBy now, most of you know this is my first week in my new role as Prefect of the Army. I do hope I can serve you all just as well if not better than my predecessors. I decided to keep Cosmic's tradition of Prefect's Reports alive so that we are all on the same page of communication. These reports do not have to be our only means of communication. I look forward to working with all of you in some way, shape or form. Feel free to bring any concerns you may have to my attention (provided you are not violating the Chain of Command). I can generally be reached on IRC and can ALWAYS be reached via Comnet PM. In the past, when every Prefect has taken office they always had a plan of what they wanted to do with the Army: I am no different. Currently, I am analyzing structure and communications methods in the Army and have some changes I want to make there to start with. The rest of my plans need more researching before I can lay them on the table, but just be forewarned: change is upon us. Not everything will change, but what I do change I am sure will be to the benefit of us all and in the long run bring us to a better plane of existence.Squad Structure Changes
As some of you who have been here a while may remember, we used to have many high-ranking members at the trooper level. (Any rank above Second Lieutenant is considered an officer) For a while, under Surface Marshall Cosmic's rule, this was no longer allowed. We are at a point in our existence however that we need every member we can possibly get...despite their rank. I would like to applaud Sergeant Major Aeos for being willing to take a rank cut just for the sake of being at the squad level. I cannot imagine that every one of our members would be willing to do the same however. Especially if we get former veterans that want to return just to the life of a Trooper or Squad Leader, this cannot happen under the rule. Therefore, effective today: a squad member will not be limited by ANY rank, despite their position. Also, the Sergeant Major will be (once again) restored to her former rank out of appreciation for her sacrifice and dedication this great club.
Do they Have to Listen to Me?A concern among the Squad Leaders has always been (and will always be) What if my troopers don't listen to me? and surely this recent reversion can only add to that concern. Let me set the record straight before any unnecessary concerns or worries arise: the chain of command still exists! Yes, that is right. Even if you are a Squad Leader at the Sergeant rank and you have a trooper that happens to be a Colonel they STILL have to listen to every order that you issue. They are NOT above you. The only thing that we do ask of course, is they are at their rank for a reason; so try to treat them with a little more respect than your average Private First Class. They may have had similar issues back in their glory days and may be able to help you out if you get in a sticky situation. This is not to say they know better than you; just that they most likely know what you are dealing with and may have invaluable insight into the situation that you may not have considered otherwise. They are still under your command however, and must do as you command.Promotions- Platoon Sergeant Sandwich Sam Promoted to Second Lieutenant upon successful completion of his officer's exam.
- Sergeant Major Kanderin Drakken resigned as Wraith Squad Leader but will be taking on a role as an Academy Staff member.
- Senior Sergeant Ron will take Kanderin's place as Wraith Squad Leader.
- Sergeant Major Aeos is restored to her former rank of Second Lieutenant.
Halloween Squad StoryYes, you have read correctly. This year the Army High Command will be playing host to a Halloween Story. It was originally thought to have a competition very similar to the Holiday Squad Competitions that have become somewhat tradition around here. However, it was felt that you all have deserved a break from competitions for the time being especially considering that we JUST finished an Elite Squad Competition and this year's HSC could very well end up turning into an ESC. Therefore, to keep with the spirit of Halloween we will be running a two-week storyline to celebrate filled with everything from undead soldiers to vicious Gora Beasts.(more commonly known as werewolves) Special thanks goes to the Department of Development for inventing Star Wars Translations for all our favorite Halloween creatures and/or monsters. I am sure you will all have a lot of fun participating, and it will be a nice change of pace from the normal mission/squad story. The story will run from October 25th to November 7th. More information on that to come.ClosingThis concludes this week's Prefect's Report. As a minor closing note, I would like to mention that in the VERY near future that there will be an Army Command Meeting. Unfortunately, this means that most of you will not be attending. However, I would like to ensure that all of your voices are heard if there are any concerns you have. Therefore, at all positions from Trooper all the way up to Platoon Commander. Make sure that your Commanding Officers (those immediately above you that you report to) know of any and all of your concerns so that they may either forward it up the Chain of Command or properly represent your concerns for you. This is a practice that should be done regardless of whether a meeting is to take place or not; but is more important than ever considering that there is. Keep up the good work!
