  Your Duty to the Corps

This post is a long overdue clarification of what duties a postion within the Stormtrooper Corps has delegated unto it's office (or barracks bunk).

These are subject to change, as positions open/close due to member counts. And this list will attempt to keep updated with such changes.

Let's start from the bottom and work our way up, shall we?

Trainee
The trainee of the Stormtrooper Corps has one objective that supercedes about anything else (besides the CoC and like of course), and that is to complete Basic Training to the satisfaction of the Commander of Training and find themselves into a squad as a trooper.

Trooper
The Stormtrooper Trooper is the foundation of the Corps and is expected to maintain activity, and failing that, explain why without being promted for a reason (typically in a report for semi-leave and on the LeaveNet for actual leave).

They are to maintain their ID lines with all prior medals awarded (failure to keep medals in your ID line may result in recieving duplicate medals), as well as maintain their personal wiki pages should they have one.

A trooper should attempt to submit a report every week when considered on active duty to their ASL and SL (in the event that both the ASL and SL are on leave, then send them to your PC).  Comnet PM is an acceptable means to submit reports, as is

They are also to follow the CoC, VE Axiom, and any other rules that may present themselves.  They are obligated to report any abuse or violation they may witness up the chain of command (To a channel op for IRC violations, or to the SL or PC for Axiom violations),

They are also expected to enjoy their time on the site ;)

Fire Team Captain
A Fire Team Captain is considered a trooper in all aspects and thus has the same obligations and duty of a trooper.  The title of Fire Team Captain is solely for in-story purposes.

Assistant Squad Leader
The Assistant Squad Leader is expected to assist the Squad Leader (hence the name) in all matters that may arise.  Should the Squad Leader be unable to perform any of the duties that are assigned to his/her office, then the Assistant SL is expected to fill in.  For example the Squad Leader may be unable to send the squad report and thus the ASL shall complete it in the SL's stead.

The ASL also assists in minor day-to-day squad decisions that benefit the squad.  The SL may overrule any of these decisions as may anyone higher up the chain of command.

As with all members, the ASL is expected to follow the CoC and VE Axiom and report any violations to the proper administrators.

Squad Leader
The Squad Leader is responsible for maintaining their squad at an active level, and trying to ensure their members behave.  They must create an example for not only their squad, but anyone at the trooper level.

Just as Squad Leaders depend on the troopers' reports to make sure they know what's going on, so do those higher up depend on the SL's report, and thus the SL is expected to post their report on Friday upon the Commander's Comnet.

In addition to their own ID line, SLs should ensure the members of their squad have accurate ID lines.

The squad webpage, graphics (banner, logo, etc), and wiki page fall into the domain of the Squad Leader.  The SL may commission (pay ICs) others to create/maintain these, however he/she is responsible for the result as if he/she created it himself/herself.

A Squad Leader is also to monitor your troopers to observe who is and who is not deserving of a promotion or medal and should include these observations in their report.  Reasons are appreciated by the higher ups, asthey don't recieve the trooper reports directly and thus are not always aware of what the trooper has done to deserve the promotion or medal.

A SL is also expected to send out a welcome letter via comnet PM or email to a new member that comes from Basic Training to his/her squad.  This letter should entail what is expected from that trooper and offer to answer any questions they may have.

AWOL checks may be performed by the SL for the squad that he/she has leadership over.  Typically these will be performed by higher ups, but the SL is welcome to perform their own should the need arise.

When there is no official Army storyline going on, you have the option of creating a squad story. Technically having the 'option' doesn't mean you have to, but it is highly recommended.  If there is no squad story or official army story in progress, then your troopers are expected to do specialty stories (as are you).

The SL may select his/her own ASL from the troopers within his/her own squad.  A SL is by no means required to have an ASL, but it is highly recommended.

And as always, the Squad Leader is expected to follow the CoC and VE axiom and report any violation through official chain of command.

Platoon Adjutant
Typically the Platoon Adjutant is a Squad Leader in addition to this position, although it is not a rule, it seems to tbe the norm.  The PA is expected to perform the Platoon Commander's duty in his/her absence, and when the PC is present, any delegated duties.  Frequently they may investigate instances for the PC where the PC is expected to take action, so that the PC may make an informed decision.

Platoon Commander
The Platoon Commander serves to administer his/her platoon and ensure the squads under that jurisdicition remain active and well behaved.

The Platoon Commander may join a story with a squad and post as a temporary attachment trooper, this is optional, but suggested for PCs whom desire to write fairly regularly.  They should attempt to write with all squads equally and avoid favorism.  Yhey may also create and run a story containing the entire Platoon from time to time.  These Platoon Stories are highly encouraged, however should be not be every month or two, nor run for an extended time.

The Platoon Commander is typically delegated the task of grading specialty stories for his/her platoon.  They may also assign specialties to new troopers.

A platoon commander may promote an trooper up to and including Sergeant Major, however is expected to provide valid reasoning for such promotions to Army High Command.  These are typically included in reports as notes and the Company Commander (or higher) makes the actual promotions on the roster.

As always, the Platoon Commander is expected to follow CoC and the VE Axiom.  In addition they have the responsibility of writing up members of their own platoon who violate said rules and Comnet PMing the write-up to the Company Commander and Army High Command.  If the trooper affected  another platoon as well, the PC of that Platoon should also recieve the write-up so they may comment on it if necessary,

Company Commander
The Company Commander is the lowest office where one watches over everything within the VE.  It is an entirely administrative position, although some story writing oportunities exist.

The Company Commader handles equipment maintainance and upgrading for squads and Platoons.  They also maintain the specialties of the squads.

The Company Commander is in charge of ALL specialties. The CC keeps track of everyone's specialty sheets and if deemed necessary, grades stories.  The CC is free to designate people to grade the stories as well, and typically the PCs are those delegated as such.

The Company Commander is to be consulted regaurding all transfers or interactions between two squads whether they are from the same platoon or not. His/Her approval may not be needed but he/she must always be aware of them. The Company Commander ALWAYS have the right to overrule a Squad Leader or Platoon Commander.

The Roster must be managed at all times by the CC. Preferably the PCs will do what they must, but the Company Commader will most likely perform most of the operations with the Roster.

The Company Commander should have at least half-ops on the Vast Empire main channel on irc, so that he/she may enforce CoC as necessary.  The CC may also conduct meetings if the need arises.

The Company Commander may make decisions that affect the entire army in minor ways, but larger changes require a proposal sent to the Army High Command.

The Company Commander is expected as any other member to adhere to the CoC and VE Axiom, and as well as write up any violations that may occur and forward them to the High Command for necessary review and any appropriate punishment.
