Armament Maintenance and Repair

As in Small Arms Repair, troopers will learn to make repairs to practically any type weaponry that they have. Weapons can range from simple weapons like an E-11 blaster rifle to a DC-17M Interchangeable Combat System. Classroom-type scenarios will be given to troopers so its ensured they have all the equipment they need for the first time around; ensuring that they know how to do it right when they have what they need. Troopers will be expected to know how to "improvise" when everything isn't given to them. One final part of the course will be to show troopers how to perform regular maintenance on their equipment, and how often to do it.

Irritated, Dante jabbed the power button, and the text faded, then vanished. As usual for inter-mission periods, the RAIDERS barracks were deserted. Many of the other troopers had residences outside of the Platoon's complex, finding the group residence too spartan and crowded for their liking.

Dante would probably have done the same; cost wasn't an issue for him and the room did get oppressively humid in the long Tadeth summer, but he'd developed somewhat of an attachment to the complex and found it conveniently close to such resources as the armoury and Tadeth's main shuttleport. It seemed few of the new additions to RAIDERS Squad agreed, as their bunks had grown a thin layer of dust and their palm-coded lockers were open: empty and gaping.

Turning his head from side to side, Dante saw the reason for his earlier irritation. The DC-17m Interchangeable Combat System was a masterpiece of a weapon, its barrel considerably shorter than its standard-issue relative, yet almost as accurate. Its firing rate was impressive, and it rarely jammed. Dante had come to rely on the weapon for the vast majority of his squad's objectives. He knew the weapon's intricacies, how to take it apart and reassemble it, and how to switch out the attachments. Not a bit of this mattered to the berk in charge of his spec.

" 'Need to demonstrate proficiency' ...hah!"

Muttering to himself, Dante picked up the rifle in one hand and got up from the bunk. The bunk gave a groan as the springs distorted, and the mattress sagged under the sudden displacement. Dante slung the deece over his shoulders as he strode from the room. The doorseal hissed, began to slide open, then came to a sudden, groaning stop.

"Oh, stang."

Dante gave the control panel a good whack, but the door refused to open. Looking at the jammed exit, he resolved to have a few words with the baracks' maintainer, a conversation which might just involve the business end of a blaster pistol. If nothing else, the threat might motivate the repairman to get it right next time. For now, he'd have to resort to a more primitive method.

The trooper braced himself, then grabbed the left door with his mechanical right hand and pulled. Sparks flew as the metal plate slowly moved into its recession, and dents appeared in the metal under Dante's grip.
