Return from the Darkness (Tomas and Mira)

As Tomas descended the ramp of the Imperial Shuttle, he looked about the hangar. There were no personnel lined in rows to see his arrival, even several of the mechanics he knew aboard the ship paid no mind to his entrance. Those who did turn their heads were probably doing so simply out of curiosity. It made sense, as Tomas didn't really expect much of a welcome. After all, his unintentional space walk during his last mission as Viper's SC and the hangar accident before it had left him needing some time away from a starfighter. He'd gone to a darker place, a state of mind he really didn't want his friend's here to see. In the meantime, he had been serving as a squadron coordinator of sorts on a Strike Cruiser performing patrols on the edges of Vast Empire space. They'd had their share of excitement, and his duties had not been much different, but it lacked alot of the risks he'd encountered as a starfighter pilot. A good place for him to recover and return to respectability.

His transfer back to the Suspense had been put together pretty suddenly, with only vital personnel knowing it had occurred. Tomas wasn't even sure what facet he would find himself serving here. His previous position had been great and all, it just wasn't for him. Besides, something inside Tomas told him he had to be back amongst the people he knew and trusted the most, in whatever way that might be.

Duffel bag over his shoulder, Tomas staked out the new quarters he had been assigned. Not quite as large or luxurious as his former ones' and had the look of a freshly scrubbed down room. It didn't look like much, but with a little work he felt it'd be just fine. As it turned out it wasn't too far from the room he had used when he was Squadron Commander of Viper. This allowed him a great deal of familiarity right off the bat, and gave Tomas a sense of relief in not having to explore a whole new area of the ship. He couldn't help but wonder who had snagged his old room in his absense, though.

Conversations and greetings came and went as Tomas ran into pilots and other personnel he recognized, though he kept them as brief as he could as they weren't the ones he was keen on finding.

As Tomas entered the cantina, he scanned the patrons looking for her. She must've noticed him a split second sooner, because from the corner of his eye he could see her running his way, her distinctive limp and all.

"Tomas?!" Mira cried, slamming into him with a hug that although he had seen it coming, still knocked Tomas off balance. She quickly released him, before following through with a series of light punches to the arms and chest. "I thought you'd run off on us!"

"I'm sorry, Mira. I needed some time on my own. I wasn't in the brightest of places after accidents I was in. I just couldn't let you see me like that," Tomas replied gently restraining Mira's fists before she decided to hit any harder. "I gotta say though, it's good to be back."

Yes, I am. I've been discussing with Ibram as to where exactly I'll be placed. I'm going to be involved actively with Viper in some manner, either as a flight member or some unique position that still allows me to post in Viper stories often. Don't want to displace the SC/XO/FLs who have been active this whole time and have proved themselves at their positions.

I've been ready to come back for a few days now, but have opted to wait until their current story is over to come back to the squadron officially.

"It's good that you're back," Mira said smiling her eyes softening just a little, "But a letter or two would have been nice," she stated grumpily.

"Sorry, I was just busy, you know how I am with keeping in contact," Tomas said smiling himself as Mira hugged him again.

"Mmmm you still smell good," she mentioned and grinned good naturedly as she took his hand, "So tell me everything, meet any girls?  Seduce the natives?  Come on Tom spill, you know how I love a good story!"

"Well I didn't really do much but work, I just needed to get away," Tomas said looking thoughtful.

"Phaw, you never do anything exciting," Mira grumbled pulling Tomas out of the galley.

"Hey were are we going anyway?" Tomas asked.

"Well, that's a surprise," Mira said practically dancing as they neared the briefing room.

Tomas raised an eyebrow, "Mira you didn't!"

"I'm staying silent, besides I got word from a friend of mine you were coming back and we had to do something, after all you're a Viper, you're family," she said about to open the door to the briefing room.

"Mira," Tomas said pulling her back and looking her in the eyes.

"Yes?"

"You're a nerd, but thanks," Tomas chuckled seeming to change what he wanted to say.  They walked into the briefing room arms linked, there the Viper Squad was waiting for him, welcoming Tomas back onto the squad.

"Bram! You made it back in time!" Mira shouted cheerfully running up to the blond, blue eyed Squad leader as he walked into the room holding a cake.  She threw her arms around him, her large green eyes twinkling, "I thought you weren't coming back for a few more days!"

"Easy Mira, I have cake in my hands," Ibram replied chuckling keeping the cake from being squished, "I pulled some favors to come back early to see Tomas," he said.

"Just Tomas?" Mira pouted.

"Don't be a drama queen Mira," Ibram replied calmly before wiping some icing on her nose making her giggle and run to get a napkin.

"Hey, welcome back," Ibram said to Tomas as he put the cake down.

"Thanks," Tomas replied looking past Ibram to where Mira was furiously wiping her nose, "for a lot."

Tomas smiled as he watched Mira frantically clean her face of icing. He found it amusing how hard she was trying get her face clean. Had things changed since he'd left? Tomas was wholey expecting Mira to slam a piece of cake in Ibram's face ... squadron commander, or not. Instead, she stood there licking her napkin and wiping her face repeatedly in attempt to get the sugary topping off. Tomas shrugged, taking her predicament as a chance to mingle with the other pilots. They were mainly familiar faces, though a couple new ones he didn't recognize dotted the crowd.

Tomas didn't say much, mostly saying hello and thanking the pilots for coming. They'd ask him how he'd been and what he had been upto, but his answers were always brief and vague and Tomas was quick to change the subject. Luckily, Tomas has long since perfected the art of letting others do the talking. Now was the time to celebrate his return to the squadron, not go into all the details about why he left in the first place.

Grabbing a piece of cake in between conversations, Tomas was amazed at how good it was. Someone in the squadron must have called in a favour or two, considering what the desserts in the cafe were usually like. By the time he had finished half the slice, Tomas had completed his rounds and peered around the room looking for Mira. Sure he'd missed his other squadronmates while he was gone, but it had deeply pained him to leave her like that without saying much of a goodbye ... again.

Spotting her, Tomas approached Mira and one of the newer pilots that she was in conversation with.

"Geez Mira, must I do everything?" Tomas spoke up, as the conversation wrapped up.

"Hm? What are you talking about?"

"You missed a spot of cake. Here, let me get it." Tomas said smiling sweetly before reaching down to his plate, gathering up what remained of his cake and smeared it all over Mira's cheeks, chin and lips, with one little bit of icing ending up on her nose. For a brief moment, Mira just stood there unsure if that had just happened before reaching out to grab Tomas and exact some revenge. Tomas was just quick enough to evade her grasp, before taking off out the door. Mira was in hot pursuit, stopping to take a piece of cake on the way.

Tomas was faster, especially since the hangar accident. Mira's limp didn't slow her down much, but it was enough. Tomas was able to direct the chase, keeping in her sight but with little fear of her catching him. Slipping into his room, Tomas hid to the side of the door.

"Ha! Couldn't lock up befo-" Mira stated triumphantly walking through the doorway, cake in hand. Tomas grabbed her gently, spinning her and pinning her on a nearby wall.

"You know, you really should try this cake," Tomas said, kissing Mira's cheek and removing the cake their in the process. He proceeded to plant kisses around the rest of her face, clearing away a good deal of cake and icing. Finally, he got to her lips and as they connected he could feel Mira melt slightly in his arms, as the cake she had been holding fell to the floor.

"I've missed you so much," Tomas said as he pulled back reluctantly.

The kiss was nice, Mira had to admit that Tomas when he was in the mood was one of the most passionate kissers she had ever, well, kissed.  And she was a sucker for a good long makeout session.  She couldn't help but melt against Tomas a little as he kissed, it had been a while.  Funny thing was she didn't get the tingly, feel good, toe curling reaction that she usually got when she was kissed.  With good reason, her childhood crush on Tomas had been just that a crush.

"Tom, stop," Mira murmured gently touching his lips with her hand to keep him from kissing her again.

"What?" Tomas asked looking confused.

"I'm sticky, I want to wash my face," she said bluntly, slipping out from under Tomas' arms and heading to the sink.

"Aren't you glad I'm back?" Tomas aske following her to the bathroom when she began to wash her face.

"Of course."

"You aren't mad?"

"Well considering you left without a word or note, never answered my calls or messages, and was doing who knows what," Mira said drying off her face and looking at Tomas, "No not really, I was at first and then I moved on."

"Oh, that's good then," Tomas said grinning, his brown eyes twinkling a little making Mira smile. "so what have you been up to?'

"Honestly?" Mira said and Tomas nodded, "BramandIsortofkindhavethisthinggoingIwantedtotellyoubutyouweregoneandwhatwasagirltodo?Hemakesmeallsquishyontheinsidejustbylookingatme.  you understand right?" Mira said all in one breath.

Tomas just stood there, unsure what was going on. One moment he had been kissing Mira, the next he was facing an empty wall. Turning around, he saw Mira wiping the icing away.

There was something about the way she responded, that made Tomas think she was still mad. The words she used came off as sarcastic, but her tone had no hint of it. She had moved on? What did that mean? The next thing he knew, Mira was rambling on about something or other. She was speaking so fast he couldn't undestand a word she was saying and it didn't help that he was still coming back down from the kiss.

"You understand right?" Mira asked.

"Uhhhh ...," was all Tomas could muster in reply. He shook his head solemnly, trying to see if he could make heads or tails about what was going on. Mira sighed, though Tomas wasn't quite sure why.

"Well ... you see," Mira began. "For a while now ... back around the hangar accident I guess. I've really been growing closer to Ibram ... I can't really explain it but he makes me feel all nice and tingly. All he has to do is freaking look at me and I turn to goo. I'm sorry, I just ... don't feel that way with you anymore."

Tomas just stood there, trying not to let his jaw drop open in shock. It took him a few moments to collect himself to the point that he could actually reply.

"Wow," was the only word he could force out of his mouth at that point. Tomas could feel an anger swelling inside of him. Feelings of betrayal caused him to turn abruptly and without another word, Tomas was through the door and halfway down the hall.

"Tom?' Mira asked as Tomas' eyes seemed to darken as he left the room, he was halfway down the hall before she was out the door herself, "Tom?  Tomas where are you going?" she asked, no answer, Mira took off after Tomas.  She limp ran after him, his stride even just walking was much longer then her own, making her catching up to him impossible.

"Tom don't!" she shouted at Tomas as he entered the briefing room.  By the time she got to the door, it was too late.

"You bastard, I trusted you!" Tomas screamed punching Ibram square in the face.  Ibram was taken off guard and stumbled backwards holding his nose.  Tomas then grappled with him, slamming him into the table, knocking the cake to the floor.  Holding Ibram to the table with his weight, Tomas proceeded to punching him wherever their was an opening.

"Tomas stop it," Mira screamed hysterically grabbing onto Tomas' arm to keep him from punching Ibram, "You're hurting him!" she cried, as she was practically lifted off the ground as Tomas tried to punch Ibram again.  "Stop!  Tom please stop!"  Tears streamed down Mira's face as she managed to squeeze herself between Tomas and Ibram.

"Why?  Why should I?  Look at what he did, to us," Tomas demanded getting close to Mira's face making her wince and try to pull away.

She looked at Tomas with steady, hating eyes, "No look at what you did, you picked up without a word to anyone, left the squad, left us, left me.  And you expected things to be hunky dory when you came back.  You treated us all like crap doing that Tomas!"  Mira growled, her eyes softening as Ibram groaned from behind her.  "And look at you now," she added pointing to his bloody fist.

"I, I," Tomas shook his head before turning around and leaving.

"Come on pretty boy, lets get you to medical," Mira sighed slinging Ibram's arm over her shoulder.

Tomas found himself caught in a slew of emotions as he stalked off down the hall once again. Shoving his fist into his pocket, he couldn't make eye contact with those he passed. He felt guilty about what he had just done. Where had that come from? Never had Tomas done something like that before. To repeatedly strike a superior officer; a pilot who he had considered a friend. HAD considered a friend, Tomas reminded himself. There were few people in the universe that he had trusted more than Ibram, and he had betrayed that. So had Mira.

The back of his neck bristled with goosebumps, and Tomas could feel his hands subconciously form fists in his pockets. Never had he felt more betrayed than he did right now. Memories from the past months clouded Tomas' mind as he walked aimlessly through the ship. Scenes replayed in his mind: the hospital visits by Mira and Ibram, the interactions between the three of them during downtime. Had something been going on then, too? Behind his back, while he lay unconcious for all those long hours? Tomas shook his head in an attempt to free his mind of these thoughts. Confusion was wreaking havoc on his mind.

Unsure how it'd happened, Tomas found himself back at the door of his quarters. Opening the door, he half expected a squad in white to be waiting to take him away but instead the room was empty. Cleaning his hands of blood, Tomas reached for a towel to dry off with only to retrieve the cloth Mira had used earlier. A brief rage took over as Tomas hurled it across the room, before sighing and slipping into bed. It was only a matter of time before this all came crashing down on him and he figured he should get some sleep while he could.

"You have to leave again?" Mira asked Ibram as she watched him pack a few essentials.

"Just for a few days, seems a few decisions that we made at the last one fell through and now the higher ups have to go over them again.  Mostly budget for squads and whatnot," Ibram said zipping up his duffelbag.

"Even with a mushed up face they're making you go?" Mira sighed rolling her eyes.

Ibram winced a little before smile, "Even with a mushed up face, they didn't give me SIQ so I have to go.  Though I have to admit I didn't know Tomas had it in him to punch me."

"If you had known would you have kept yourself from me?" Mira asked picking that the blnaket at the bed.

"You kidding, wild Banthas couldn't keep me away from you Mira, you know that," Ibram chuckled leaning down and kissing Mira square on the lips.  "I got to go and catch the shuttle."

"I know, bring me back something!" Mira said throwing her arms around Ibram kissing him hard on the lips, getting a fill of his taste to last her until he came back.

"You know I will, someone has to supply you with your knickknacks," Ibram chuckled, his nose nestling in Mira's hair for a moment before he turned and left.  Then he promptly came back, grabbed Mira around the waist, picking her off the bed and kissing her one more time, once more, one more time, before letting her go.

"Get going pretty boy," Mira laughed shooing Ibram out the door.  Once Ibram was out of sight, Mira settled down to bed.  She fell asleep quickly, only to wake up a few hours later.  A thin line of sweat trickled down her face as she recalled the dream, fire, hot, burning fire was all ash remembered.  Her leg ached dully, she shivered closing her eyes only to see the fire again.  She was use to the dreams, usually she curled up next to Ibram for comfort, but Ibram wasn't there so Mira settled for the next best thing.

"Tomas move your ass over," Mira grumbled crawling into Tomas' bed, "Geez you giant you take up the entire space!"

Tomas woke up for what seemed like the dozenth time in a matter of hours. Guilt ... anger ... no, sleep was not going to come easy tonight. Rolling onto his other side and spreading out in an attempt to get comfortable, Tomas felt his fingers run across cloth and then flesh. What the Frak? Tomas thought, pulling his hand away, and now quite wide awake. He had gone to sleep alone ... that he knew for sure. But now ...

Tomas scrambled out of bed. He had no idea who had crawled in next to him and couldn't help but be a tad freaked out. Tomas flipped on his bedside lamp for a better look and gasped as he made out Mira's hair and facial features.

"Mmmrrph," Mira moaned trying to shield her eyes from the light.

"Mira, what the hell!?!" Tomas yelled, waking her up a bit more in the process.

"Mmrmm ... Tomas, come back to bed," Mira groaned rolling over. Meanwhile, Tomas had gone and sat in a chair on the other side of the room.

"Why the hell would I do that? Why are you here? Aren't you supposed to be pissed off at me?"

"Tomas you know me, I don't hold grudges. When I found out Ibram was okay I couldn't help but laugh about it." This was true, Tomas sighed. Mira had always been quite forgiving, and let bygones be bygones.

"That still doesn't explain why you're in my bed..."

"Well ... Ibram's off at his meetings, and I've been having these nightmares. Usually Ibram ..."

"Please," Tomas said, cutting her off abruptly. "You can leave out the unnecessary details."

"Heh, oh Tom Tom ..." Mira replied, with a giggle. "Well I have trouble sleeping these days, the nightmares are just too intense. So with Ibram gone, I came here."

"Figures," Tomas commented snidely. "Your boyfriend goes away and you're in the bed of another guy."

"Tomas! It's not like that! You're still my best friend, so I came here. Now, are you going to comfort me or not."

Tomas sighed, he simply couldn't believe this. Mere hours ago, Mira had broken his heart, he had beaten up her new boyfriend and she had torn into him for it and other things yet here she was needing a warm body next to her for the night. He badly wanted to just leave the room, and make her suffer through the night alone but instead relented.

"What are your nightmares about?" Tomas asked, wondering how much sincere his question actually came off.

"Fire, heat ... pain. My leg usually hurts a bit when I think about the dream."

"So ... the accident." Tomas stated flatly.

"Yeah..."

"Mira ... I had the same sort of dreams ... well, more like nightmares I guess. That is when I wasn't having dreams of cold, dark, blackness. When I had to eject from my fighter and float in the depths of space. I have never felt so cold and alone in my life than I did then... well I hadn't … till now. Those dreams … the feelings they made me feel during the day, they were too strong. But I couldn’t describe them much less begin to explain them to you or the others. I needed time away from all this and I wish I could’ve given a reason, but I couldn’t … it just wasn’t possible. I’m sorry.” Tomas took a breath, as he had gotten so lost in his thoughts he seemed to have forgotten to do that before.

“And you know what got me through all this, Mira? You. Knowing that you were here, I came back for you. Knowing how much you cared for me, how much you meant to me. It made all those feelings of coldness, pain, loneliness melt away. I had to leave, and I’m sorry for that, but I wasn’t gone all that long … not long enough that I’d expect to come back to this. It was an extended leave ... for a month. Sure I didn't know how long I'd be gone at the time, but if you really cared you could have at least tried to get in contact with me, send a letter, whatever. The Navy could've gotten that done for you if you really cared so much.”

Tomas finished, not even bothering to look at Mira’s reaction in the pale light. Instead, he left her in his room for the second time that day. Only this time it was with a calm, satisfying exit not a fit of rage.

Ibram trudged grumpily through the door, trying to fend off the sleepy haze that kept trying to get him to close his eyes. It was well into the early hours of the morning, and Ibram cursed the stars that he couldn’t have a lie in – after all, it was the High Commands fault that he was up this late.

Dumping his bags in the middle of the room, he collapsed onto the bed as he remembered the scene when he had landed on Abrea.

“I’m sorry gentlemen,” The young lieutenant had said. “The meeting has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. You are to return to your units immediately and await further instructions.”

Ibram was not pleased.

But I’ve just come from the Atrus, it’s going to take me ages to get back!

He had told the Lieutenant as much, but he had just shrugged him off.

“Those are your orders Warrant Officer.”

Ibram had to wait around for an hour before he managed to hitch a ride on a supply vessel that was heading to the fleet. It was an old vessel though, part of the 6th Auxiliary fleet, a relatively new creation comprised of commandeered and re-activated ships.

The fact that the trip was slow going wasn’t the worst part though. Ibram had decidedly quite definitely after he had had to re-possess his bag for the tenth time that trip that the kleptomaniac crew were the worst part. And they smelt.

Ibram started to drift off to sleep, rolling over to give a certain someone a sleepy hug, and it was only then that he realised that Mira wasn’t in the bed.

I wonder where she’s got too…

The past week had actually been quite peaceful, compared to what Ibram’s life usually was like. In the aftermath of the Epsilon Crises, Mira and Ibram had spent a lot of time together, and could almost be called a couple. Almost.

Ibram had long accepted that Mira would never be truly tied down to one man, but he also knew that didn’t mean what most people assumed it would. Mira was Mira, and she would do as she pleased, when she pleased. But in the right situation, she would stay faithful.

Sitting back up, he decided that he would try and track her down anyway. He knew she sometimes had nightmares, so she was probably off wondering about somewhere.

He managed to look in the mirror on the way out. His face was still swollen, and his right eye was black, but he was on the mend. He made a mental note to kill Tomas next time he saw him.

Ibram walked slowly through the halls of the Atrus. All was quiet, although he sometimes saw the odd nightshift personnel walking about, doing their tasks. He turned the corner to head towards the Squadron’s assigned mess area, and bumped into Tomas heading in the same direction, but from the direction of his own quarters.

There was a long silence as the two men stared at each other, neither daring to move nor say anything. Eventually, it was Thomas who said something:

“How’s the face?”

Ibram nearly flipped at that, but then he remembered how Mira had re-acted when Tom flipped. So instead, he simply said:

“…better, thanks you.”

Tomas blinked, as if he had been expecting something worse.

“Thought you were away on some sort of logistic meeting?”

“They cancelled on me. Told me to come straight back.”

“If it makes you feel any better, they did it to me a couple of times too.”

“It doesn’t, but the gesture has been noted.”

“Look Ibram, I didn’t mean to smash your face in, but you have to understand-“

Ibram cut him off.

“No Chief, I don’t have to understand anything. Viper Squadron is under my command now – you can’t just leave and then waltz back in a few months later and expect everything to return to normal.”

Tomas looked own at the floor, but Ibram wasn’t finished.

“And I’m not going to apologise to Mira either. She doted on you, and then you up and leave her hanging in the wind. I wasn’t going to make the same mistake. I haven’t felt the way I do about her since my deceased fiancé, and I’m not about to let that go.”

Ibram knew he could say more, but he would leave it at that. He couldn’t afford to give in to his emotions at a time like this.

“I’m sorry skipper, I really am, but you need to move on.”

Ibram walked past him, and headed down the corridor that Tomas had just emerged from.

“Where are you going?” He asked.

“To your quarters, I suspect my girlfriend is in need of some comforting right about now.”

“How do you know she’s there?”

“Because you aren’t.”

Ibram stalked off, his mood threatening to over take him, but then he remembered who he was looking for, and all of sudden things didn’t seem as bad anymore…

Tears weld up in Mira's eyes before the door to Tomas' room slid shut.  Her bottom lip quivered, an empty hole grew in her chest making her feel lonely, cold, scared, and like she was the most horrible person in the world.  A sob escaped Mira lips before she buried her face in the pillow to keep the world from hearing her pain.  How could she, how could she put people she cared about through so much pain just because she wanted to be happy.  She could have waited for Tomas to come back, to make sure she didn't feel the same way about his as she did.  She had to jump the gun and start a relationship with Ibram, she just had to go with her feelings.

"Stupid, Stupid, STUPID!" she practically screamed into the pillow before punching it several times.  That was until it seemed to explode, covering the room in a soft, feathery, landscape.  Furiously Mira tried to brush it out of her hair, but couldn't.  Her face itched from the feathers and from her tears.  Sniffiling she made he way out of the room and into the hallway.

"Hey, why is my girl so sad?" Ibram's voice asked.

"I'm horrible, that's why, a rotten, no good person," Mira sniffed wiping her eyes and nose on her shirt.

"Clumbsy, careless, and blunt yes, horrible person no," Ibram chuckled, but the chuckle died in his throat as Mira looked up at him with sad eyes.

"He hates me, so much!" she sobbed throwing herself into Ibram's arm, clinging to his flight jumper, letting the cloth soak up her tears and sobs.

"Well, I suppose he wasn't expecting this," Ibram murmured, "I don't think any of us were.  Tom has that problem, he expects everything to stay the same, when it wasn't, I guess it just made him burst."

"I-I don't want him to hate me!  He's my best friend!" Mira cried her body shaking as she clung to Ibram.

"He's come around, Tomas isn't completely irrational," Ibram spoke lifting Mira's face to his and kissing away her tears until she let out a small chuckle.

"You're the rotten one," she said her cheeks flushed, her face practically glowing.

"Sometimes," Ibram replied.

"You look like you could use some sleep," Mira commented grabbing Ibram's hand, pulling him down the hall.

"I could use a few winks," Ibram said looking thoughtful.

"Yeah and your face looks like crap, got to admit I didn't really think he learned anything from our sparring sessions.  But it looks like he did," Mira said turning and grinning at Ibram.

"So that's where he learned to punch," Ibram said pretending to be mad, picking Mira up and slinging her over his shoulder, "Good girls shouldn't be teaching boys to punch."

"I'm not a good girl though!" Mira protested trying to squirm out of Ibram's grip.

"So if your not good then what are you?" Ibram asked getting to the door of his room.

Mira grinned devilish, walking into the room, "Naughty!" she called from inside, grinning just as wickedly Ibram followed after her.

Wrapped in the sheets, Mira leaned against Ibram, who was watching the halotelevision, wandering through channels.  Mira on the other hand was concentrating on a sketchpad and pencil trying to draw Ibram's foot.

"Hey, you know you're getting better at that," Ibram commented looking over Mira's shoulders.

"Yeah...well not to brag, but I rock at this," Mira said pausing to look back at Ibram, "Thanks again for the gift,' she mentioned the birthday present of art lessons.

"Well it was hard to decide what to get you for your birthday, you're a tricky person to buy something for," Ibram said wagging a finger at Mira.

"Well usually I don't need anything, and if I want anything I just buy it for myself," Mira shrugged going back to her picture.  They both sat in comfortable silence, that is until Mira's watch's alarm went off.

"What's that for?" Ibram asked yawning.

"A reminder."

"For what?"

"Easy, keeping away from Tomas won't help us heal our relationship, so we're going shopping," Mira said pulling on her shoes.

"Does Tomas know?"

"Not yet."

"You sure he's going to go with you."

"Well...not really, but I have some good dirt on him that I can blackmail him with to get him to go," Mira said leaning over and kissing Ibram on the forehead before bounding to the door.  "I'll meet you at the shopping center in two hours!"

"Wait what?" Ibram gasped as Mira disappeared.

Tomas sighed as he stood alone in the hallway. The thought of Ibram now on his way to see Mira caused his blood to boil, but there was no longer anything he could do. He had told Mira everything he had wanted to say, and frankly he had nothing to say to Ibram. Instead, he took a deep breath in attempt to calm himself and headed in the direction of mess ... where he had been heading in the first place.

Grabbing a water when he arrived, Tomas sat down at one of the tables alone with his thoughts. Sure, they still had several days before their next scheduled mission and a nice alcoholic drink would drown out some of the pain he was feeling now, but it would only hurt all that much more in the morning. That, and right now he felt he really needed his mind clear right now if he had any hope of collecting his thoughts.

Frankly, Tomas wondered why he was still even aboard this ship. There were only two people here that he had actually come back for; Mira, because of how much he like her and Ibram, because he had become a very good friend over their time in Viper. Now ... mere hours after his return that had all been turned upside down. He felt completely and utterly betrayed, and questioned whether he could possibly serve beside them in the field of battle. It had taken a month ... LESS than a month for all of this to go down, and he really couldn't believe it.

At some point, Tomas became lost in thoughts ... staring off into space as he replayed the last several hours over in his head. The sound of the mess hall door opening shook him back to reality, as did the person that walked through it.

"Tomas! There you are! I've been looking all over you," Mira exclaimed as she spotted him. She wanted something, Tomas was sure of it. She had that scheming look on her face that he knew all too well.

"Hell no," he stated matter of factly before standing and walking out the mess' other door without another word.
