  Aftermath of Aftermath (Mira/Tomas/Ibram)

"Beep, beep, beep, beep," the steady beeping slowly brought Mira around to conciousness.  Was it morning already?  She was dead tired, she must have been playing video games with Tomas late again last night.  She wondered who won, she couldn't remember, let alone she couldn't really remember that much...Her skin was wet, and there was some sort of mask over her face, what was all of this?

Then the shock flowed through her body settling in her stomach making her want to puke.  The explosion, the screaming, her being pinned underneath rubble, the fire...the fire.  She could almost feel the flames licking at her, she had passed out but she remembered the pain.  Why wasn't she dead, well the Bacca surrounding was one explination.  Tom?  Tomas!  Was he alright?  She could vaguely remember him being trapped and lying still, very still.

"Long term memory loss," Mira's eyes flickered a little, she had a feeling this voice was talking about her, "Shouldn't effect her flying knowledge.  Her leg was crushed, we managed to save it but she'll always have a limp.  And within time the burn scars will heal and fade."

So in a sense she was all in one, 'piece,' nice.  Mira let out a cough, it was bitter and smokey.  Opening her eyes she looked around the room.  A guy in a lab coat...the doctor?  And one other man...Tomas?  No not Tomas, Ibram, how strange.  As the liquid was drained out of her pod, Mira sunk to her feet in dispare?  Was he dead?

"Mira?  Mira are you alright?  Is it your leg?" Ibram asked running up with a towel and wrapping it around her as she sobbed.

"Tomas?" she sobbed managing a question.

"He's fine, bruised, but fine," Ibram murmured a frown on his face as he helped Mira to her feet.  Silently, she was guided to the showers, after she washed the Bacca off of herself she limped out in a towel to the large mirror, staring at herself.  Her right leg was a mangled mess, red a riddled with scars.  Mira turned to see the mess of burn scars on her back, her eyes filling with tears

Ibram looked over at Mira, feeling oddly drawn to her. A part of him felt like just going over there and holding her hand until it was all better...

"It's ok...every thing's going to be ok. You'll be up on your feet in no time! Isn't that right Marisa..."

"...erm memory loss. Shouldn't effect her flying knowledge. Her leg was crushed, we managed to save it but she'll always have a limp.  And within time the burn scars will heal and fade." The Doctor said.

Ibram nodded. It bad been 2 days since the incident in the hanger. The entire squadron was on leave, or at least, what was left of it. Most were in the infirmary.

He looked back at Mira and saw that she was awake...and crying.

As the liquid drained out of her, she sunk to her knees and sobbed.

"Mira?  Mira are you alright?  Is it your leg?" Ibram ran up with a towel and wrapped it around her.

"Tomas?" she sobbed managing a question.

"He's fine, bruised, but fine," Ibram murmured a frown on his face as he helped Mira to her feet.

He helped her over cleansing unit, so she could get the Bacta off of her. Out of respect, he let her go in alone, although he made sure he wasn't too far away from the door.

A few minutes later she was dry and limped back out of the unit, towel wrapped round her.

"Come on O'Riley," Ibram said. "Let's get you back to your room."

She nodded quietly, and started walking shakily towards the door, and then stopped.

"You ok?" Ibram asked.

"I...I don't think i can walk all the way back."

Ibram smiled, and turned around so that his back was facing her.

"Hop on then."

Mira slept most of the way back...

A dream, if she wished as hard as she could and squeezed her eyes shut tight, then she could almost believe the shearing pain running across her skin down to the dull ache in her leg didn't exist and that she was still in one piece.  If she pretended.  Mira forced her eyes open, burying her face in her pillow to force the tears in her eyes back.  Nearby her alarm went off, her skin stretched and seemed to crinkle as she reached out and turned it off.  Once again she knew she hadn't set it and at some point in the night Ibram had snuck into her room to set it to try to wake her up for physical therapy.  Two weeks and every session she had skipped and instead wandered around feeling lost.

Today she planned to limp to the nearby park, find her favorite bench in front of the duck pond and take a nap for a few hours.  After a labored struggle she managed to get out of bed.  Taking her pain meds she got dressed in a white long sleeved shirt and pants.  Picking up her cane she headed out the door, ducking around the corner in time to miss Ibram for his usual failed try to get her to her appointment.  Mira chuckled to herself as she limped out the door.  Sheilding her eyes from the bright sun she continued her struggle to the green, blooming park.

The park was filled with beautiful flowers and as Mira sat down in the bench in front of the duck pond a warm breeze moved the scent of flowers around her.  Soon the warm weather and lulling sounds of the pond made Mira drift into a light sleep.  A shadow over her a few hours later caused her to wake up.  Looking up she saw the blue eyed blond haired figure of Ibram.

"Hey," she yawned smiling sleepily.

Ibram walked slowly down the hall, a mug of caf in one hand, and a datapad in the other.

With the CO still in hospital, it was up to Ibram to make sure everything ran smoothly. However since the rest of the Squadron was also pretty much out-of-action, there wasn’t much for him to do.

Turning a corner, he headed over towards Mira’s room. He’d been trying to get her to do rehab for the past two weeks, but she kept evading him.

He walked up to her room and knocked on the door.

Silence.

Yup…she’s avoiding me again…

Draining his caf, he set off to begin the hunt, which had almost become like a ritual.

After a couple hours, he eventually found her in the Park. Ibram knew it was one of her favourite places, which is why he left it till last. He wanted her to rest a bit.

Seeing her lying on a bench, he walked over to her.

“Hey,” She said as she woke up.

“Hello sleepy. Enjoy your nap?”

“S’alright. You took your time in finding me today.”

Ibram shrugged. “Had some admin stuff to do, acting commander and all that. You ready for some rehab?”

“No.”

“Good, cause we’re going to walk to the cantina and get some breakfast.”

Mira smiled slightly, and held out her arm.

“Gimme a hand then.”

Ibram grinned.

“Rehab, remember?”

“I hate you.”

“I know you do.”

"I'm not going to rehab," Mira stated pulling out a bag of bread from her book bag and starting to feed the ducks. "I hate it."

"Come on Mira you haven't been to a single one," Ibram sighed rolling his eyes.

"I have, one, it was pointless," Mira pointed out poking one of the ducks with the tip of her shoe, "I have my own exercises I've been doing and as a result I was walking a half a year before they expected."

'I believe your version of rehab is running away from me to stay away from your scheduled rehab," Ibram said, "O'Riley."

"Don't call me O'Riley, I'm not going to rehab, the guy in charge is creepy and has a wandering eye," Mira said brushing the crumbs from her fingers.

"Fine show me what this rehab you do, and if I think you need to go to a real session then I'll order you to," Ibram sighed getting up from the bench and helping Mira up.

"If I said my version of rehab was hot sweaty sex, what then?" Mira asked and laughed, playfully shoving Ibram as he looked at her and stuttered a little, "Relax pretty boy."

A short time later Ibram and Mira were on a large mat in the gym. Mira had changed into a tank top and a pair of stretch pants.

"Scars are looking good," Ibram commented as Mira stretched.

"They still hurt, pretty bad sometimes," she answered back before starting on a meditation movements to find her center.

"This is it then, you slowly moving around?" Ibram asked walking around Mira. That is until her hand shot out and flipped him over her shoulder. Her fist threatened to cave in his chest but she stopped it just in time and leaned in inches from Ibram's ear.

"I've been sparring everyday, try to keep up," she chuckled hotly into his ear before limp/hopping backwards, "Now get up."

'this isn't fair, you're injured and Ieeeee," Ibram went before Mira came forward her elbow digging into his stomach and her leg twisting his throwing him off balance and knocking him to the floor again.

"Come on Ibram," Mira said leaning down again and laughing huskily, "Or has all that paperwork made you grow fat and slow?" she asked hopping back again.

Tomas awoke with a start, sitting up in his bed and looking around. Everything seemed okay, though he didn't recognize the room or bed he had been sleeping in. Thankfully, he recognized the woman laying in the bed next to him.

"Morning babe," Mira said followed by a long, drawn out yawn causing Tomas to do likewise. As she slid over and snuggled into him, the skin to skin contact startled Tomas momentarily though he didn't show it outwardly. Instead he reciprocated, sliding back down into the bed. This was definitely an enjoyable feeling for him, and he was in no rush to get out.

Unfortuantely, life seemed to have other plans as Mira broke it off and climbed out of bed heading for the refresher unit. "Don't fall back asleep, darling ... don't want to be late."

Roused and awake, Tomas sighed as he went off to get ready for work.

**********

Tomas scanned his ID card and with a click, the door in front of him slid open revealing a small group of people working busily at various machines. Ah, research and development ... it wasn't exactly the profession Tomas had seen himself in growing up, but he couldn't help but be intrigued by the prospect of being involved in the production of a new and cutting edge starship or ship-related technology. It got a bit heavy at times though, especially at crunch time. While he made it through each one, it could be a struggle to get up for work some mornings. It was days like those, that he questioned whether this was the field in which he truly belonged.

"Hey ... Dagoram..." one of the other men called out over the many conversations, grabbing Tomas' attention in the process. It turned out they needed some small parts from the hangar in order to get a true idea of how their current project could be incorporated in the big picture. Being the newest not to mention the youngest developer on the team, pick-up duties such as this generally fell on Tomas. He didn't mind too much though, as it meant a trip to the hangar bays. Mira had gotten a job as an up and coming mecahnic there and it gave him an excuse to visit her during the work day.

**********

Entering the hangar, Tomas waved to the head mechanic. Mira had invited him over for a dinner a couple months into her job, and over he and Tomas had become pretty good friends.

"'nother pickup, eh Tom?" the head mechanic spoke up over the noise of the hangar, to which Tomas replied with a nod.

"You bet, it's being packaged as we speak. Any chance Mira's around here somewhere?"

"Well she was assigned to work on some of the fighters in the back of the hangar today, so she'd better be there."

"Thanks."

**********

Ducking under a lift mechanism Tomas came upon a small group of fighters, each showing varying signs of wear and tear. He couldn't see any mechanics out and about, but a small set of tools lay over by one of the fighters facing away from him. He had a good feeling he knew where Mira was, as he had caught her on a couple previous occasions.

Sure enough, as Tomas approached the starfighter he heard a distinctive voice making 'pew pew' sounds from the cockpit. He smiled as he reached it and gave a light knock on the glass, causing Mira to jump slightly before grinning widely at him.

"Hey you," he said as he helped Mira out of the compartment.

"Hey to you, too," she replied, suddenly leaping onto him for a hug.

The two sat and talked for the next several minutes as Mira idley fiddled with some of the repairs she was supposed to be making. What only seemed like a short time, turned out to be much longer as Tomas finally noticed a nearby holoclock. As much as he'd have loved to stay and talk for the rest of the workday, his team really needed those parts. With another hug and a kiss, Tomas made his exit and headed back towards his work.

**********

The day had ended and after a delicious meal, Tomas once again found himself in bed with Mira cuddled into his chest. They had been watching a holovid, but Mira had recently dozed off. Switching off the video, Tomas sighed contently. His job was tough at times, but having Mira here with him every step of the way ... it made it all worth it in the end. With the warmth of Mira pressed into him, it wasn't long before Tomas fell asleep himself.

**********

Tomas woke groggily to the sound of a steady beeping. Thinking it was an alarm clock he attempted to move his arm to turn it off, only to encounter a serious amount of pain in his shoulder. Slowly opening his eyes, Tomas once again found himself in an unfamilar bed though this one appeared to be one of the hospital variety.

A wave of confusion rushed over Tomas as he struggled to take it all in. Why was he here? What was wrong with his shoulder?

Just then, the door to his left opened and in came Mira, though at a slow limp.

"Well well, sleepyhead's awake now!" she teased, in the way only she could. Tomas smiled weakly in response, though it soon faded as Ibram entered the room behind Mira, and put her arm over his shoulders. Tomas definitely had alot of catching up to do.

If this ever get’s out, I’m going to be a laughing stock…

Ibram was once again on his back, Mira having thrown him down to the ground for a third time in a row.

“You know, for a cripple, you’re un-shamefully agile today.”

“For an Executive Officer, you’re un-shamefully wimpish.”

Ibram sighed and got back up, assuming his ready stance. Mira came forward with a side kick which turned out to feint as she wrapped her leg round his, and shoved forward. Ibram managed to twist himself round as they fell so that he ended up on top of her instead.

“I’m also not an idiot.”

Ibram smiled down at her. Mira started to blush under the attention.

“Yeah alright, gerroff me. I think that’s it for today.”

Ibram and Mira sat there on the mat, neither saying anything, yet neither feeling the need to say anything. It was one of those rare moments of silence where you were completely at ease with each other.

Their revere was broken as Ibram’s comlink beeped.

“Tyrol here.”

“Mr. Tyrol? This is Dr. Gates. Your Commander is showing signs of consciousness, I think he’s going to wake up soon.”

Ibram looked over at Mira and winked.

“Good news, we’ll be right over.”

Helping Mira to her feet, they both made for the door.

“Let’s go say hello to sleeping beauty.”

-------------------------------------------------------------

The two of them walked through the door just as Thomas started stirring.

"Well well, sleepyhead's awake now!" Mira teased.

Ibram stood next to her as she leant on him.
“Good to see you up and about sir.”

Thomas’ voice was hoarse and croaky.

“How long have I been out?”

“About a week sir, you were pretty seriously injured.”

“And the rest of the Squadron?”

“Most of them are in the same condition as you are, although some of us were lucky enough to remain relatively unscathed. Sicario is in the Brig for gross insurbordination.”

Thomas chuckled.

“Seems like you’ve been handling things rather well XO.”

Ibram smiled, “I’ve been doing my best sir.”

He noticed Mira was staring at the skipper with a strange expression. Thomas noticed it too.

Ibram walked Mira over to a seat next to the recovery bed, and headed for the door.

“Ill leave you two alone.”

He saluted before leaving.

Mira's body was practically buzzing as she waited for Ibram to leave the room, as the door shut she threw herself at Tomas, "Tom!" she cried cuddling his head into her chest and she held back her tears, she kissed the top of his head over and over again.

"Mira...can't...breath," Tomas gasped Mira let out a sad laugh as she let go of his head, her lips quickly found his capped ones and kissed him over and over again.

"You jerk, you had me worried!" she stated pouting and sitting on the edge of his bed.

"Sorry, I'll try not to fall into a coma without your permission," Tomas retorted smiling, his hand reaching out for Mira, "I'm glad you're okay."

"Yeah," Mira said showing Tomas her leg, "Ibram's been mothering me like crazy, you know how he is when he feels guilty he hovers. He's been trying to force me to go to rehab for my bum leg, but I pwned him in martial arts today so he'll leave me alone about that for a while."

"So you and Ibram have been hanging around a lot since I've been out?" Tomas asked his lips becoming a thing line and his eyebrow furrowing.

"Yeah, he's really been there for me," Mira said lying down beside Tomas and resting her head on his chest listening to his heartbeat, "When I first came out of the bacta tank he had to take care of me, I was pretty messed up. He's really kind," Mira said her voice softening.

"I'm sure he is," Tomas said, Mira sat up as one of the nurses came into his room.

"Sir, you can have one more visitor and then you'll have to rest," the nurse stated and left the room.

Mira giggled, "she so had a hairy mole on her cheek," she said making Tomas smile again, "Well I'll be off then, Ibram will probably want to see you before they drug you up some more," Mira said leaning in and kissing Tomas before she limped out of the room.

Tomas sighed inwardly as Mira slipped out the door, and waited patiently for Ibram to take her place. He wished Mira could’ve been the one to stay with him for the rest of the visitation hours, but recognized that following such a harmful incident to the squadron and the Commander himself stuck in a hospital bed it’d be up to Ibram to keep things going.

Tomas couldn’t help but smile, as he allowed himself to recount Mira’s visit, which albeit brief had managed to somewhat lift his spirits. He was ecstatic to see she was okay, minus the limp of course. Even in his current state she had managed to make him laugh, despite clumsily resting her head on his recently repaired shoulder. Just having her there had temporarily washed the pain away. Of course, the steady stream of pain meds was doing its job too, but that was beside the point.

“Heya Skipper,” Ibram’s voice spoke up from the doorway causing the injured pilot to shake himself out of his current thoughts. “How’s the shoulder feeling?”

“Oh you know … great … provided I don’t move it at all. It’ll be fine before long I’m sure, especially once I cleared to do rehab on it,” as Tomas finished his statement, an awkward silence took its place for a couple minute. It was something that had never really been present between the two, though the slight tension seemed to have emerged now. “They really can do some amazing with medicine these days though, I gotta say.”

“Without a doubt, sir. I’ve been trying to get Mira go to rehab for her leg ever since the accident but she’s been … reluctant.”

“Heh, she was telling me she kicked you ass in the gym today,” Tomas replied with a forced chuckle before putting on a more serious face. “But honestly, I think you should keep at her about it. Find a way to do so without making it sound like you’re nagging her, at you should be fine. It’s a lot of hard, tedious work now, but it’s worth it if it means having full use of your limbs for many years to come.”

“I’ll try, sir. But you and I both know how stubborn she can be.” The two pilots laughed, an awkwardness still lingering between them.

“So Sicario’s in the Brig? Pilots are in Sick Bay … what exactly happened down there?”

"You don't remember, eh sir?"

"It's all a big blur really. Explosion, pain, black, you know?"

"I can imagine, sir." Short, straight forward, to the point. "Well, that  was most of it ... for all of us. Confusion, scrambling to rescue you guys. It was pretty crazy in there. We're fortunate we got out as healthy as we did, sir."

"Yeah, no kidding," Tomas replied grimacing as he attempted to move his arm.

"You look like you need some rest, sir. I'll leave you be."

"Keep my squadron in one piece, Tyrol."

"You got it, sir." And with that Ibram was gone and yet another person was in the room. The nurse had returned, and was doing something with the IV on the side of the bed. Before long, Tomas' eyes felt heavy and he drifted off again to a dream world.
