Welcome to the Imperial Naval Academy (VENA), Valyrin.  My name is Jegora Fal, and I am one of your trainers. I, along with Shazam (the Training Officer), Tomas (our Executive Training Officer), C-3PX2 (our final Trainer), and Ibram Tyrol (our senior Operator) will be passing you through the chapters of Basic Training. If you have any questions at any time, click on the Message Center, compose a new message, and put my full name in the recipient spot.

Now, you've actually already finished the first portion, known as Imperial Initiation (II)- you really just had to find your way here and make a thread to do that, though.  The second half is a bit more challenging and is known as Flight School (FS)- here you'll learn about the basic of flight, your equipment and what it takes to be an active member of one of our fighter groups.  If you'll visit Flight School and take a look at Chapter 1 entitled "Character Creation," you'll be well on your way to completing the first portion of FS.  Once you've got a bio written up, simply post it here and one of our trainers will be along to post their comments and further instructions.  In the meantime, if you're looking to get idea of our club and its members, I highly encourage you to explore the rest of the ComNet and jump onto our IRC server, via either our free chat applet (jIRC) or the downloadable version known as mIRC .  Either way, I hope to see ya around.

Here's my bio.

Valyrin, being rather short for a Trandoshan, is only 5 feet tall with approximately 7 inches as well (1.701 meters). He is rather middle-aged for a Trandoshan: Approximately 24 standard years old. He stands completely upright most of the time out of pride in the uniform, but doesn’t completely fill it. He never has received anything relating to tattoos, and he has decided never to wear a single one. His eyes are a deep red, and his scales, being Trandoshan, are an odd blue-green instead of the more common green.
He is mentally stable in all respects. He does, however, appear extremely quiet to the people he doesn’t know or trust, as he is very reserved. He may give the occasional “Hi” to the passing officer and he will respond to whoever speaks to him, but never greets anyone else he passes unless he knows them. He avoids conversation as much as possible; as he feels uncomfortable with speaking to people he doesn’t know personally. Because of him being reserved, he is rather disliked among the pilots: People believe he is rude because of his lack of communication.
He looks as if he’s been through extremely hard times, and he has. When he was a child, his parents were slaughtered by pirates when they were out looking for someone who went missing from their tribe. Valyrin, witnessing this, became permanently traumatized. He returned to his tribe only to see that a group of pirates had already been there: His entire tribe was dead and all their valuables were stolen. He feared for his own life, but didn’t want to leave his entire tribe’s corpses without some reprisal. Standing there, he heard a noise, and saw pirates already slowly coming after him. He ran as fast as he could, with the pirates not too far behind. Just running for his life, he encounters to pass a few Imperial pilots on a survey mission. As Valyrin ran passed them, they saw that he was being chased by pirates. He hid behind some greenery to avoid attracting attention. After they disposed of his pursuers, they took him back to their cruiser. When asked for his name, he could not answer: He had no memory of what happened before his parents were killed. Over time, he adopted the name Valyrin because he misheard a couple of recruits talking and he heard that and he took it and made it his name.

Note that the edits were small grammar changes or adding something to clarify. Thank you.

Sorry about the wait, Valyrin. Your bio looks and sounds good. One thing I want to mention is the fact that indenting doesn't turn out so well on our forums, for one reason or another. For this very reason we tend to write in block form. For instance:

OOC:
Valyrin, being rather short for a Trandoshan, is only 5 feet tall with approximately 7 inches as well (1.701 meters). He is rather middle-aged for a Trandoshan: Approximately 24 standard years old. This makes the post look neater and is easier to read.

Also, when you create your wiki page your character's vitals will be listed like so:

OOC:
Name:

Species:

Age:

Height:

Weight:

Eye Color:

And so on. You have the idea of a bio, though, and thats the important part. Keep in mind that as your time in the VE progresses you are strongly encouraged to add to and alter your bio to reflect your characters current experiences.

Moving on, I believe you are ready for Chapter 2. I believe you have an assignment there as well, so you may post it here as you have done before.

Keep up the good work

Let's see, a couple of maneuvers.

The LAG PURSUIT:

The Lag Pursuit is the act of remaining in the blind spot beneath the opponents tail.

This is executed when the opposing fighter performs a turn. You match their turn in degrees per second and attempt to remain in their blind spot. This allows you to remain hidden in an evasion attempt so you can brake and get right back on their tail.

The SPLIT-S:

The Split-S is a maneuver to disengage a threat that is following. It does, though, require a lot of airspace so exercise caution when over a planet or inside an asteroid belt/field.

This is done by, during a turn while being pursued, rolling to invert your direction and going into a dive. Then level out and you'll be at a higher airspeed and lower planetary altitude.

Alright Valyrin, this looks good. You were able to sum up the maneuvers in a consise manner, but at the same time you were correct in your analysis.

You may proceed to chapter three, your final chapter. Keep in mind here that by this time we expect you to have a wiki page (can be found here. This link is excellent, I suggest you use it.

Also, along with your Wiki page and your Chapter 3 Assignment, we expect you to have your ID Line, or at least the basic format. This can be challenging at times, so don't feel afraid to ask questions.

Get these done, post here letting me know, and I'll check 'em out.

Quick couple questions:

What should I put for my Callsign and Squadron?

What should I do for the repeat parts (Bio, History, Appearence)?

What is an ID line?

A link to an ID Line guide can be found here.

Your callsign is Valyrin . Your squadron is Sting Squadron, the Training Squadron of the Vast Empire Naval Academy. As for the Bio and History and Appearance sections, thats where the bio your wwrote goes. You don't neccessarily have to use each of the sections, but if you want to you are more than welcome too. If you want an example, here is my bio:

Wiki page and ID line look good. Now all we need from you is a report. This doesn't have to be much, a simple list of your activites, along with your upcoming plans, and any questions/concerns you may have is all. Get that up and I'll take another look.

Hang in there, almost done.

For the report, just email it to you or post it here? It says email, but I'm still in Flight School, so it's rather confusing (I think about stuff like this too much in RL... =P)

Lol, no worries. You can email it to me at [email protected], or you can PM (Private Message) it to me here on the ComNet, or you can post it here.

When you get in a squadron, most Squadron Commanders and Flight Leaders are going to want reports emailed or PMed. But for training purposes, go ahead and post it here.
