(Based off of my Star Wars Galaxies experience)
Born and raised in a small family on Naboo, Drake has always had an affinity for building things. He decided that, one day, he would like to be a crafter of ships, buildings, equipment, etc.
Upon the time of growing up, he decided he wanted to join an army. The Rebellion sounded nice, but having enemies in every place didn't sound too appealing, so he went for the Empire. He joined up as a trainee in a basic TIE fighter.
