Skills/Personality

Skills: Raced the DeJax mount animal most of his life, he has quite the reputation for it back home. He is highly proficient in double knife dueling and with the ancient bow. He was introduced to the blaster two years ago in the war against the "Nids" which the use of has also become a high skill of his. He has an excellent sense of his surrounding that is shared by his whole people. He speaks his native language Falthornian and Basic.

Personality: Has a large sense of humor though it can get pretty dark at times, though it doesn't get in the way of his duty which he is highly bound to. He is very competitive but it is always friendly unless it is with the enemy. He also has the habit of noticing things that most off world people, do not and then talks about them in a matter of fact way as though they did.

History

It had been three years since the death of the Emperor Plapatine, though no one on Falthornn would have noticed. The planet had little to do with the galaxy beyond their own world. The planet had five oceans that surrounded red bodies of land. The world had never developed any form of grass, so the iron laden sand showed everywhere. It was for the most part a not so overly hot dessert climate. Another defining geographic part of the planet was the unusually large amount of crystal growth. Some crystals grew to be the size of buildings; groups of them sometimes were even used for that purpose.

One of those buildings was the Palace of the Seven Stars. Today was the day that a DeJax race would take place. But it was no ordinary race for it was a special day. It was the Race of World Peace that took place every year to commemorate the day that the factions of Falthornn laid down arms and ended the civil wars that had taken place for hundreds of generations. They had built the palace together to form a new planetary government.

It was in that city that 18 year old Regbur prepped his DeJax for the 120th Race of World Peace. He looked forward to it every year. It was his fifth time in the race and every time he placed higher. He had placed third last year and he now had his eyes on the gold. He had shown a talent for racing the animal ever since he had ridden one. It was the reason why he could place so high in a race that had hundreds of participants.

The DeJax is a four legged creature with three tails and long neck that ended in a head with four eyes and two elongated ears. It is a very agile creature that can even dodge arrows at times. It is also fast, very fast.

Regbur's friend walked into the stable.

"How's it going Ral?" asked Regbur to his friend.

"Pretty good, how is prep going for you Red?" replied Ral. Regbur's nick name derived from his red hair that laid in a mop on his head.

"Well if she doesn't roll in the dirt, I just have to throw the saddle on her."

Ral laughed. DeJax were well known for being very clean animals. Rolling in the dirt wasn't their most favored activity.

An announcement came over the loud speaker, "30 minutes until the race."

"Well you and I are going to have to get suited up," said Red to his friend as he threw the saddle on his DeJax.

He left the animal in its stall. There was no door and latch on the stalls because they were unnecessary. The DeJaxs weren't going anywhere. When they got into their designated ready room they closed the door and got out of their work clothes. Ral was Red's ceremonial representative and he took the job very seriously. He would be the flag barer in the opening ceremony and, hopefully, the one that would present him with his rewards at the end of the race. They both were putting on blue and green uniforms that were of the former country, now state, of Malamen. Ral's clothes were completely ceremonial when Red's were designed for racing.

Ten minutes before the race, Regbur mounted up on his DeJax and rode up to the starting line. The track started next to the palace that was marked by two large pillars of Nova Crystal. It went cross country through cannons, past oasis, through fields of crystals, and with much rough terrain in between. It ended in at a lake that Sapphire colored crystals jutted out of the water.

Five hundred DeJaxs and their riders were lined up at the starting line. DeJax had no reigns on them. The riders didn't communicate by touch or words to the animal. DeJax are classified as semi-sentient, by some sentient, creatures. The people of Falthornn have the strange ability to telepathically communicate with their DeJax. It is an ability that doesn't work in any other situations, not even among the Falthornians. The most excepted theory to this is that it is the DeJax itself that has the telepathic abilities to read and communicate to the minds of its rider. It didn't seem to work with any one that was from off planet, so it was also assumed that the Falthornians also had some kind of ability. They also didn't have names but were identified as being associated with the rider. Not to be confused with ownership, it was more like a partnership.

A DeJax race had two members on a team, the rider and the DeJax. Both trained hard for a race and both strived to win. The DeJax contributed its agility and speed, the human contributed the directional memory and the highly situational thinking that the DeJax lacked.

The announcer told the racers to get to their starting positions. After a brief flag ceremony the announcer started the count down and the racers were off. The race started off smoothly going over flat terrain. That soon changed as the riders went into a wide cannon full of rocks and cracks. Red was near the front of the pack, letting the rider in fifth break the wind in front of him. He fed the information of when they could break around the DeJax in front of them. Not in words but images and feelings of timing. The DeJax sent back a confirmation thought and they broke around the one in fifth. The four in front of Regbur now were very experienced riders and it would take awhile to get in front of them.

As the leaders went through a series of oasis, Red rode into forth. Through a field of tanzanite he made is way into third. It was now near the end of the race. The great monument in the middle of the lake could now be seen. Red made it through a narrow gap between the one in second and a large rock. He was now heading for the leader. He told the DeJax that it was now time for the final sprints. The DeJax increased speed to come neck to neck with the leader. The finish line was now visible in all its glory. Come on, come on girl you can do this, thought Red to his DeJax. From somewhere with in the DeJax came a final burst of speed. They passed the leader. The leader, now in second, was about to catch up but too late they were over the finish line!!! It was over, they had won!!!

The crowd around the lake went nuts throwing flowers and ranting his name. The Master of Ceremonies gave Ral the rewards for first place, the Gold World Medal and the transfer papers for one million Falthornian credits. They returned by air ship back to the Palace for a big celebration. Just in the time of glory and happiness, something happened. Large ships of unknown origin flew through the atmosphere. Drop ships landed from the big ships and released spider like creatures that were armed with devious looking blasters and blades.

But the Falthornians were not helpless. After 120 years of being sealed the armories were broken open. Soldiers that had been trained in case of such an event threw on body armor and picked up blasters to fight the Arachnid Invaders. Red was among them. Though they never had actually trained with the energy weapons, the aiming mechanism were just the same as the cross bows that had simulated them. They also had the knowledge of how to use them. Defenses built in the place that were cleverly hidden were brought out and armed. Jet fighters came out to fight off the star fighters of the new enemy.

Red's squad and the others went out to fight the "Nids." The Nids may have had superior numbers and better air craft but they had under estimated their enemy. They were expecting an enemy armed with bows and swords but found highly skilled men with blasters and turret defenses. The Falthornians were dropping fighters with the anti-air turrets at a phenomenal rate. They were taking very little damage as the enemies were being slaughtered. The first battle was won but not the war.

They came back the next time with better soldiers and greater numbers. Over the next two years the Nids and the Falthornians, which origin was unknown, fought a bloody war. During that time the Falthornians sent a representative to Coruscant on a trading ship. That representative had Red as one of his honor guards. The representative made his case to the New Republic Council. The Falthornians needed help to fight the Arachnid enemy and they wanted that help to come from the NR. In the end the NR turned them down and the Falthornians return to their planet in disgust.

At the end of the second year, the Nids gave up on taking the planet from its people. They prepared for a final assault from orbit. They would bombard the planet with thermo nuclear rockets to the point that it would not be able to support sentient life if they didn't get their way. They made their intentions very clear to the Falthornians, they would surrender or die. The Falthornians were a very proud people, they chose death over giving up the planet.

When the end was surely upon them, help came at the most unlikely time and source. Out of hyperspace came Star Destroyers of an Imperial remnant. They launched TIE Fighters to take on the Nid's star fighters. The Nids were so distracted by the Imperials they forgot about their orbital bombardment plans. The last battle was like the first, a complete slaughter. It was over.

A Lambda Class shuttle landed in front of the Palace and a man in Imperial grey came down the boarding ramp. He spoke with the government council of Falthornn. He told them that he was part of the Vast Imperial Remnant which was near this system. He spoke of how he heard about the troubles the planet was having and how the New Republic turned them down. They also learned that the Nids were from a system not far from Falthornn. He told them that he wasn't here to finish the job that the Nids had started, he wasn't here to take control. All that he asked for in return for his government's generosity was recruits for the Army and Navy.

That wasn't much of a problem. The people of the world saw the NR as evil and many gladly joined the Vast Empire. Red was one of that many. His people had almost meet the fate of genocide, he wasn't about ready to not hold it against the New Republic. The Nids were gone, the Rebel scum were now the enemy.

The power to cause pain is the only power that matters, the power to kill and destroy, because if you can't kill them you are always subject to those who can, and nothing and no will ever save you.
