On a completely unrelated note, typos do not reflect one's knowledge of the English language, only that they are too lazy to proof read :P.

                    NOOB!

Arkan Thran, I believe that telling Max to knock it off would be my job.  Please don’t over extend your welcome to speak within this topic, Crewman.  He is your superior, it is out of place for you to keep him in check.  All he was doing was joking around; he knows I wouldn’t hold it against him.

Heh, you’re all lucky that I was being lazy as the rest of you this week or you would have gotten one of my speeches.  I’ve been kind of disrupted lately because of work, school, my best friend, and recently discovered political affiliations.  I also broke up with my girl friend not too long ago.

Next week I’d like to see us show some more activity.  So that leads right into my next topic:

Organized Story Posting

So far you’ve all been basically posting whatever you want and interacting with whoever you want.  This is a great format for CD and often encourages creative ideas.  But when it comes to an actual mission story, too much free for all is an equation for the story failing.  We need to start incorporating more structure to our posting.  I’m saying this because the next story is going to really need it to work.

So you may be asking, what does this all really mean?  Basically, you have to listen to your Flight Leader.  Before this point the only person actually controlling anything beyond a personal level was myself.  Now C3 is going to take on a roll.  Later, Max will pay a fundamental roll in directing the story.  So I think it’s time to discuss the hierarchy of the squadron in respect to the story.

Squadron Commander
The SC has the most authority over the story.  He has the final word on everything.  In most cases, he puts together the majority of the story.

Executive Officer
An XO at their full potential has nearly as much power over the story.  They often contribute a lot to the story planning.  They are in the know when it comes to the big events in the story.  Because of these facts, an XO plays a crucial roll in moving the plot forward.  From experience, it takes an active XO to keep the momentum of a story up.

Flight Leader
FL’s also move the story along, but don’t have as much power as the SC and XO.  They tend to govern events pertaining to their own flights more than ones that involve the squadron as a whole.

Flight Members
A FM’s control the story via taking orders and fulfilling them in the way that best suits them.  They don’t bring forth major events; they only react to them in their own creative way.  They can, however, help plot out the course of a major event if experience accurately allows them to do so.

The important thing when it comes to creating a story is to have a balance between structure and personal liberties.  Too much structure and the story becomes boring; too little, and you have people taking out a Star Destroyer with a single Interceptor.

Compared to many of the Star Wars Novels, we are not trying to depict amazing hero stories.  We stress on realism and the power of different forces working together.

There are often outlines that go with more complex missions; you’ll see one or two of these posts in the Kaph Topic when the big story coming up is released.  The outline is your friend, read it and know it. 

As for the rest of this story... our squadron will be engaging in a live action exercise with Zombie Squadron.  That means we’re flying real fighters.  It will be our two existing flights vs. their first two.  We’ll be using powered down lasers, paint missiles, and sim programs in this practice run.

Keeping in mind what was said above, Flight 1 will take orders from me and Flight 2 from C3.  This part of our story will be very flight oriented.  Listen to your FL.  Again, no superman events. I’ll throw my A+ Computer Maintenance and Repair text book at you if you’re flying around taking out two enemies in the time it takes to make minute rice.  Even finishing a dog fight within a single post would be pushing it.  So C3, after I introduce the exercise within the story feel free to do what you want with your half.  Until that time, keep putting your characters through situations as you have been.
