Thought I'd just create a new topic considering that the old one was getting pretty big.  Would someone with forum powers be so kind to sticky this topic?

We are a Unit, We are Kaph

The good doctor made a mistake when he registered Kaph as dead from colon cancer.  Kaph cannot die for it is more than a tangible collection of individuals, it is a philosophy.

Only two other members of the reopen squadron (other than myself) have experienced Kaph before.  I'm going to need their help in rebuilding the environment that goes along with that name.

So you may be asking "Thaan, why are you making it sound like Kaph is any different from the two other squadrons?" 

**Kaph means that we have each other's backs.  We support each other, no one's left behind. 

**Kaph means that you don't feel detached from your SC because he's always right in there working with you.  He/she never expects you to do something they don't and almost never lets you down when it comes to fulfilling their duties.

**Kaph means that there's no such thing as a noob, neither spoken nor implied.  What makes a good member is not amazing abilities of innate origin but how they use the ones they have to contribute to the greater good.  Things like great story writing skills can be learned.  What you need to do coming into Kaph is to be ready to make an effort through your power of will.

The Situation
To be honest, the other higher ups aren't too sure how our new squadron is going to fair in the weeks ahead.  They’re not giving us much more than a command staff worth of experienced members.  The rest of us are basically new recruits.  They want to minimize the damage to the two existing squadron in the case that Kaph goes south.

They’re questioning if we’re worth our bacon.  Well you know what we’re going to do?  We’re going to show them that we’re worthy of bacon along with two eggs and a plate full of chocolate chip waffles.  They may have us on overall writing skills and experience but we have something more important.  We have each other and the power of will.

You guys also have me.  I want to get one thing straight, I don’t believe I’m better than anyone of you.  If you have a problem with something I’ve done, bring it to me in private and we’ll work it out.  The shiny little trinket on my chest hasn’t given me a big head.  Only stupid people don’t ask questions when their confused about something.  If I have to take a half an hour to explain a concept to you, that’s a half an hour well spent.  I’ve learned a lot of things in my two years of active duty, it’s now my turn to pass it on to you.

So to conclude this first post:  The cards may be stacked against us but we’re not going to go quietly into the night.  I will not only fight tooth and nail to keep this squadron afloat but I’ll to everything in my power to help it excel.  There are many obstacles ahead, but through the power of will we shall come out victorious.  Now let’s kick some ass and take down names in the weeks to come.

News
Well, time just rolled over to Saturday at the point I’m writing this post.  Low and behold I only have one report.  I’m a realistic person, I actually didn’t expect any reports for this Friday.  I do expect reports from everyone next Friday, though, we should be somewhat established by then.

I’m probably going to start a short squadron story next week.  It would be all for character development, there isn’t even going to be a mission.  The story is just something to get everyone writing and working together.  I’ll be working on a more complete story while the short one is going on.  To some extent they’ll probably be connected.  More on that to come.

I would like to see a post by every member of the resurrected Kaph on this topic ASAP.  I want to see how many of you are actually with it.

Just some more info on how I do things.  Even with my occasional sarcasm, it will quickly become evident I don’t get mean about things and have a long fuse.  At the end of the day the point of VE is to have fun, so I really have no reason to be a prick.  Some members of VE in the past have forgotten this concept.  On the other hand, I’m no push over.  I will bring my foot down when necessary, especially when the issue is over respect.

A word to the wise, brown nosing really disgusts me.  I’m not like the real world, it doesn’t get you anywhere with me.  If you want promotions from me put forth effort and consistently live up to and go beyond my expectations.

We're basically being sent to a sparsely populated planet to run training missions. We'll be staying at an old, Palpatine Era military facility that has been modified for training purposes. The idea I have is that we'll be based out of there for awhile. In the story the majority of the squadron is made up of kids straight out of the academy, so it makes sense that they'd not have us right on the front lines.

This situation allows for some interesting character development. Veteran members, you guys are probably not going to be very happy being stuck at a training base when Kaph was once the elite squadron of the entire Navy. New guys, you'll probably be ticked off because you've been pulled out of the thriving urban center of Abrae to be dropped into a moldy old military base that still smells like Palpatine's adult dippers. Only thing that resembles civilization on the entire planet is a near by settlement, but you can only go there when on leave and your options for luxury items and the opposite sex have decreased from the Abrae considerably. Remember, you recently graduated from the academy, thus you're all gun ho to vape some X-Wings. Being cooped up will probably increase your blood pressure some... tensions will run high.


Now as for my Saturday. I worked a lovely 8 1/2 hour shift at Subway in which I got accused by some old guy of charging him for something he thought he didn't order but did and was conned into working that 1/2 hour more at the end by my attractive co-worker. The good news is that I've finally gotten my hands on another case of Vault, thus ending the caffeine famine that began at the middle of last week.

Here's probably a good time to bring up my activity expectations again. I want to see two, 250 word posts a week at least. More is always appreciated, I almost always post 500+ word posts. Reports are due on Fridays before midnight and should summarize your VE activities for the week. The number of story posts made should be included in your reports some where.


Now a couple notes on the story. I would like to clarify on my character's casualness when it comes to military formalities. Obviously, it wouldn't be realistic for a service man to walk around referring to everyone as dude and never saluting his superiors. Short of the hat he technically is suppose to wear, my character will live up to all of the disciplines expected of him by the Navy when he's in public. When he is just with his squadron that's a whole different story.

So far I've only seen the old fogies post. I hope to see some from the new guys as well before the week is through. I left the character development possibilities wide open so it would be easy for you newer folks to get the hang of posting.

TIE's are equiped with translators and I also gave a speech impediment that allows humans to understand me.

I'm going to state chess. That's why I'm taking leave for this weekend. I some how managed to get into varsity... though it's only fifth board.
