Nicely done Fury, it's good to finally have an official map to reference to get a sense of our place in the Galaxy. Looking forward to further developments.

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I have relevant news:

I've just finished a first draft of an ambitious project, which should be available online soon for you to see. 

It is a massive, 10,000 pixels x 10,000 pixels map of the Star Wars Galaxy, made from scratch, that uses all of the maps from the official Essential Atlas as a base, and adds VE-created content.  In other words, it's a complete map of the Galaxy that is more detailed than any yet released, and it includes all the major systems we've invented in this little club since 1998.  At last, we will be able to see our position in the Galaxy at a glance, accurately and definitively.

So call me a necromancer, because this thread is alive again.

You can pan the giant image, and zoom in and out at will.  It's fun; you should try it. 

I worked closely with Fury on this project: the positions of canon star systems match up with their official locations as seen in the Essential Atlas, while the positions of Vast Empire-created star systems have been carefully chosen, and are now set as VE canon.  NB: the worlds of the Thilidian Sector (Osk 91, etc.) have not been approved yet by Fury (the arbiter of VE canon), and are subject to change.  All other systems, including the VE home systems (Vectra, Sian, Rheagent, and Shykar) should be where they are supposed to be according to Fury.

You can use the official Essential Atlas and its index of systems to find any canon Star Wars system on this map, since this map uses the same grid system as the official maps do.  Although I should note that I tried to use a standardized naming convention for star systems on my map (that deferred to the name of the system's star rather than its most important planet, except in special, well-known cases like the "Corellian System"), so the system names may not always match the official index system names.  If you have a mystery system from this map that you can't find listed on the index, look it up on wookieepedia: the alternate name will be listed there, which you can then look up in the index.  We'll be compiling a new index of our own soon, with VE-created content added to it and canon content listed according to its VE name.

The next stage of this project will be a version of the map with color-coded political borders, showing ownership of the various star systems.  For now though, you should be able to figure out our position in the Galaxy with a little exploratory panning and zooming (hint: start at G-18 and slowly make your way up and over to M-11, to get a sense of Chapter 9's scale).

And we should all feel proud: over the years, the Vast Empire has carved out a fairly impressive portion of the southwestern slice of the Star Wars Galaxy, and with Chapter 9, we're poised to expand even farther.

I was surprised by our main planets' locations as well, when I saw where they were in context!  But that's sort of the point of this project: getting everybody on the same page with basics like where Abrae or Tadath actually ARE, in physical space, in relation to better-known planets of the setting.  And with this map, we finally have some definitive locations for our home systems, even if they're not exactly where we thought they were before. 

As far as Endor, I'm afraid the planet's listed as under New Republic control still, though I doubt you'd be writing many Ewok stories even if we'd annexed the place... I imagine the entire forest moon burned when the Death Star wreckage crashed to the surface.   

Oh, and Absit isn't one of our club's creations.  Like Belgaroth and Bestine IV, it's merely a pre-existing canon location that we're appropriating for our own purposes. 

The two systems that are gateways to Dominion space are, in fact: T-8-Chex Station (a remote space station), and System 1138 (in which the planet Kammlott orbits). 

If I was emperor, I would probably commit various war crimes on Endor.... to make various points about my ruthlessness and superiority over the old Empire.
