Office of Kaph Leader

A thin man was huddled over paperwork upon a wooden desk that  bore the crest of Kaph Squadron.  His sloppy, sandy-blonde hair was out of place for the rank plaque of an Ensign upon his chest.  Than Sion didn't much like paper work but it came with the job, and a lot of it.  While filling out an order for replacement filters upon the squadron's dozen Interceptors, he was interrupted by the sound of boots pounding upon deck platting.  It kept on getting louder until a Petty Officer, who appeared to be part of the Atrus' crew, came rushing through Sion's door unceremoniously.  The red haired man quickly regained his composer and saluted.

"Line Captain Shazam Money has called for you and your squadron to be part of an emergency meeting in conference room 036, sir," said the aid quickly.

"Did he mention the cause for such a rapid meeting?" asked Sion, a little annoyed with the aspect of having to go back to what he was doing later.

"He said it was classified, sir."

"Very well, tell him we'll be on our way shortly."

"Will do, sir!"

Sion stood up and saluted to dismiss the aid.  He then grabbed for his comlink and told the members of Kaph to get to the conference within five minutes.  He may not know what this is about but he did know it was important...

Conference Room 036

Wow, everybody really did get their asses down here within five minutes and not just my squadron.  It seems that the other forces have made it here quickly too.  He looked over at the focal point of the meeting room to find Shazam, the Commander of Phoenix Wing.  Near him were a woman from the scientific department and a man from engineering.  There was also the wing's new adjacent, a veteran member of the Navy that went by the name JMac.  There was an unpleasant feeling that seemed familiar about him but Kaph 1 couldn't place his finger on it...

His thought process was interrupted by the  beginning of Shaz's speech.  "I am sorry to have to bring you all here on such short notice, but we have a slight emergency on our hands.  At about 2215 Standard time, an NR task force hit one of our research stations (which's location can not be revealed).  What can be said is that NR forces hit fast and hard, achieving their goal within twenty minutes.  You many be asking, what was that goal?  Evidence shows that it was very specific, to steal a modified TIE Hunter code named Project Fold.  Our specialists from the facility will take over here."

Both the engineer and scientist stood up at the same time.  It wasn't lost to some the slight trade of glares between the specialists at the discovery of their synchronization of actions.  Shaz was among the mentioned group, thus he signaled with his hand for the engineer to go first.  The women sat down, most likely labeling Shazam a sexist in here upset mind.

"As many of you know, the TIE Hunter is a remarkable craft that was designed during the Galactic civil war to combat the X-Wing.  It never went to a stage of mass production for its price tag and its resemblance to the X-Wing in both function and design scrapped the project.  An interesting peace of technology, but not worth the enemy's effort to capture it from us since they already have other examples of our craft stuck in storage.  The difference between our piece and those which Rouge Squadron hijacked around a decade ago is the hyperdrive system.  Our research team has been able to create a hyperdrive for the fighter that can do 0.5..."

"Only theoretically can it achieve that rating," interrupted the scientist.

"Doctor Kline, I don't believe that the Lieutenant was finished yet," commented Shaz in a not so nice tone.

"Thank you, Commander," said the engineer.  "As some of you may know, a 0.5 hyperdrive rating is rare, even rarer on a spacecraft this size.  It imperative that we get the fighter back.  That is all."

Dr. Kline shot up out of her chair before the engineer's butt hit his own.

"Thank you Lieutenant Ralt.  My colleague here is quite the optimist.  It took two years of research to put this drive together, with a large amount of its design being left to theory.  It has never been tested, thus we are not sure if it will achieve the hyperspace rating of 0.5.  We don't even know if they hyperdrive would even activate since the NR forces hauled it out on a MC40a."

"My men worked very hard on putting this thing together, the system does work!" stated Ralt.

"Its not like it was all engineering, it couldn't have been done with out the help of my peers and I!" shouted Kline.

"If it wasn't for the fact that you and your friends have never handled a gun in your lives, maybe we would still have the Hunter..."

"ENOUGH!!!" commanded Shaz.  "If I hear one more word out of either of you while in this conference room, those MP's by the door will stick you two in a the same cell and let you duke it out there.

Let us continue now that you all know the situation.  Intelligence was able to track the NR task force back to their own research facility.  It is within the asteroid belt of the Pandora System.  What I am saying is that their research station is within one of the asteroids.  The general objective is very simple, get the modified TIE Hunter back and destroy any records collected from reverse engineering that the NR has stored there.  This isn't going to be simple, the section of the asteroid belt that you will be infiltrating is heavily armed with both turret and fighter defenses.  We do have two blessings.  One, that we were able to track the enemy back to their hole via a tracking system in the fighter which the enemy failed to remove in time.  Two, there will probably be no enemy capital ship support since this base is suppose to be secret.  To summarize, a capital ship being picked up on radar would be a dead give away of their location.

This operation will be led by Major Yale, SL of the Commando Team Gamma.  The operations adjacent will be Lieutenant Than Sion, SC of Kaph Squadron.  The Commando team will be the one's to directly steal back the fighter.  They have been equipped with two Sentinel Class Shuttles for this mission.  Kaph Squadron will act as their direct escort, making sure that the commandos get in and out of the rock in one peace.  Alpha and Beta squadrons will give additional support against enemy fighters.  Plaque Squadron's Gunboats are assigned with the task of thinning out the turret support.

Besides the asteroids themselves, you have two other "passive" obstacles to get past.  The outer regions of the operation zone are protected by a mine field.  Intelligence tells us that they just might be activated and deactivated by a control station.  It might be wise to look for this possible edifice before attempting to blast straight through the mine field.  Also, the asteroid based research station has a shield that must be destroyed before the commandos can enter.

Due to the fact that this mission has been rushed into planning, you will need to pick up intel once you get there.  Intelligence was only able to pick up the basics in a quickly fly by of the system.  It is amazing they got what they did.  Scouting missions are not only recommended but are necessary for the successful completion of this mission.  This briefing may seem rushed, that is because we want to get you all out there before the enemy can get a lot of data off of our Hunter and a lot sent out to other locations.  You have three hours to get prepped for this mission.  The Tiamut will be transporting the Interceptor squadrons, it will be captained by Lieutenant Willtconq for this operation.  If there are no questions, this meeting is adjourned...none?  Godspeed to you all then..."

(OCC: How's that for my first real briefing post?  I think this one should be worth two posts...J/K.  We're not going to spend a lot of time writing about what happens before the mission so cherish it while it lasts.  Will, you can jump in anytime you want since you are officially part of the story.)

"God speed to you all then..."

Krius was seated near the back, the dim lights playing shadows across his face. He watched as all the pilots from different squadrons quickly filed their way out of the briefing room, a few familiar faces amongst them. He sighted Skylla and waved to her, she returned with a curt nod and proceeded to the exit. At the end of the line, he saw Than Sion, just the person he needed to talk to.

Krius sat up from the chair, making his way over to his Squadron Commander. "Than Sion, can I have a word with you please?"

The two walked outside into the bright light, both squinting so there eyes could adjust to the change in lighting. "Yea sure. Is something bugging you?"

Krius gave a weak grin. "You know how this is gonna be my first mission as Flight Leader right?"

Than Sion nodded.

"Heh, well, I hate to admit it, but I'm feeling a little nervous. Do you think you can give me some advice? You know, personal experience."

"Advice?" Than Sion chuckled. "There's not really much advice to give you. Its more of a 'learn from experience' kind of thing. The only advice I can give you is this," Than Sion sighed before continuing. "Try not to get too emotionally attached to your Flight Members, it's the worst thing anyone can do. I did it, and when ever we lose someone, a part of me dies with them," finished Than Sion, a look of longing in his eyes.

"Heh, that's kinda hard for me to do... You know me, I'm a friendly guy, I like being close to others. But I'll take it and try to utilize it as best as I can. Thanks Than, I guess I'll see you in the Hangar Bay."

"Yea, don't get to worked u-" Than Sion was cut short, walking into a mammoth of a man, at least in Krius' perspective. Krius looked up at the man who had stopped directly in front of Than Sion. The two of them were about to open there mouths to say something but were cut short when the man spoke.

"Senior Crewman Nabric Kraell reporting for duty, sir." The tall pilot snapped a quick salute before continuing. "I was told to report to Squadron Commander Than Sion."

Intimidation was the first thing that came to Krius' mind when he laid eyes on the Pilot. It wasn't because of his size either. Nabrics eyes seemed to burn into you, almost as if they were jetting out blaster bolts. This kid was intense.

"You've reached the right person," replied Than Sion bleakly, maybe feeling somewhat intimidated by the new recruit. He stood at least a good two inches above Than Sion who was 6'1. "Meet your new Flight Leader, he'll brief you on the upcoming mission," Than Sion checked his watch, "Which starts in 2 hours and 50 minutes." Than Sion turned to Krius, giving him a wink. "Krius, I'll leave him in your hands now."

Bastard, he just had to give me one of the biggest guys in the Squadron.

Krius arched his neck, coming eye to eye with Nabric. "Petty Officer 1st Class Krius. It's a pleasure to meet you Nabric," Krius said, sticking out his hand.

Since when did I ever talk like that?

Nabric snapped off another quick salute, and then grasped Krius' left hand in his own. The two shook, gripping each others hands tightly. God, his hands are monstrous!

Krius winced in pain, suddenly remembering that that was his bad arm. He still hadn't fully recovered from the incident on Sira, which only happened a week before. They just love sending us out there don't they?

"Tell you what Nabric, I'll send you the briefing via datapad, I have some packing to do, and it might take a while. I'm glad to have you apart of the Flight, and the Squadron. I'll also be sending you the current roster of Flight 2 and the rest of the Squadron. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me at any time. I'll be seeing you later in the Hangar Bay!"

"Yes sir," Nabric simply replied.

"Oh and one more thing. You're Kaph 6, and you'll be flying as my Wingman."

I hope he's a good Pilot...

Etan stood at attention at the back of the room. He flanked his flight leader Krius. He had figured that was a good place to be in if questions were asked of him. He knew that in just the way he would watch his flight leaders back, is just the way Krius would step in and answer all qusestions for him. Fortunately, it was not that kind of meeting.

Quickly, they were informed of a secret situation that had arose. It seemed as if some sort of special fighter had been stolen from the VE by the NR forces, and, that it was tasked upon the Kaph squadron to help retrieve it. Etan didn't mind himself with all the details. He was a wookie, of course. He knew that all the information he would need would be given to him by his superiors.

As quickly as the meeting had started, it had ended. His flight leader Krius stood making his way towards Lt. Than. Before departing the briefing room, Etan stood were he was, watching the exchange of words between Lt. Than and Krius. They seemed jovial until a new recruit stepped forward. Etan wasn't sure, but he felt an uneasiness pass between them all. The new recruit was a large fellow, to say the least. Etan gained a certain respect for him just looking at him. As the rest of the room emptied towards the door, it seemed as if this new recruit had even eyed Etan, assessing his demeanor.

Etan watched as FL Krius shook hands with the new recruit. It looked as if he winced, which is not something Krius was given to. As the three turned towards the exit door, Etan too, began to make his way out of the briefing room. He eyed the new recruit sharply decideing there were more important preparations to make at the moment. As long as everyone was friendly, he would turn his attention towards the more appropriate matters at hand.

Like which beret should he wear and how many extra rations should he take. He got awefully hungry on these missions.

The Quarters of Kaph Leader Aboard the Atrus

Kaph's Commander looked at himself, clothed in his flight suit, in the mirror.  When he is flying he never thought about the helmet.  Its image was the same as the stone hard mask seen on numerous NR Navy propaganda posters.  Any time he remembered back to a battle he was never wearing the helmet.  He knew why that was; it was because he remembered the emotions and involuntary body language expressed by his faced but covered by the mask.  He was not the mindless drone the NR thought he was.  He was a highly trained pilot with feelings and ambitions.  He was not part of the machine but part of the cause.  Being a TIE pilot did not make him lesser of a man but greater of a man since he fought for a cause.  Let the Rebels think what they want, the out come will be the same.  We'll kill them all.

He grabbed the two duffle bags he had packed several minutes ago off his bed and left his quarters.  Sion's destination was straight forward, Phoenix Wing's hanger bay.  He checked his watch, he was going to be there almost two hours early.  No big deal, the commander should always be at the squadron's destination first anyways.  Skylla was exiting her room as Sion was walking by...

Kaph 3

"Than, wait up," said Skylla as she rushed to her lover's side.

"What is it Skylla?" asked Sion in a kind voice.

"I just want to talk," replied Skylla.  "On the way to the Tiamut, that is."

"I have no problem with that, what about?"

"Just things.  Cyleaf seems to be making progress."

"Yeah, but he's still in bad shape.  He still has a long way to go before he can see a fighter again."

They had no need to enter an elevator, the pilot barracks and the SC quarters were kept close to the TIE racks in case of a need for rapid deployment.  They continued their conversation about Cyleaf until they got to Phoenix Wing's hanger.  He nodded to Lieutenant Baker, Kaph's head mechanic.  The squadron's whole tech team would be moved over to the Tiamut as well.

"Are our fighters ready?" asked Sion.

"Everyone's but Kaph 5's, the new girl is being a bit slow," replied Baker who then looked over in the direction of the new girl who was working on something in the bottom of the Interceptor.  "Work faster or I'll cut your lunch break short!"

"You have worst things than that to worry about.  You're going to get it if my Second Flight Leader's TIE isn't ready by the time he gets here," Sion switched his attention back to Baker.  "Good work then, don't be too hard on yourself."

Skylla hit Sion's arm not so lightly as the couple walked toward the lift up to the TIE racks.  "That wasn't very nice, she was probably nervous already.  You didn't have to scare her.  She'll probably have a heart attack when Krius gets here."

"You should hit Baker then too, he started it."

She hit him again in the same place.  "I'm not going out with Baker.  Any other smart ass comments you want to make to me?"

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I won't do it again," replied Sion who was gently rubbing his left arm as the lift went up...

(Keep up the good work, Kaph.)

TWO HOURS BEFORE FLIGHT DEPARTURE TO THE TIAMUT:

Etan was packing his bags. To take or not to take, that was the question. He had so many things he felt he might need, but only two bags to pack them in. And let's not forget the extra rations. He needed those in case of an emergency hunger situation. And the crossbow he had aquired on thier last mission that hung above his bunk. How he had wanted to take that just for fun, but, there was no room. Couldn't he just stow it away in his fighter. He wasn't sure. He would have to think about everything a little bit more. A quick bite to eat in the mess hall might help his thinking process a little bit more he decided.

Exiting his quarters, he saw commander Than walking side by side with Skylla away from him, towards the Phoenix wing bay, both with bags in hand. Etan's destination was in the other direction, yet he thought to himself as he set off for his third meal of the day, "Either they are eager to get this mission going, or I am really falling behind." His hunger getting the best of him, he decided they were eager. Wookies always tried to justify the cause for thier own wants and needs, and right now, Etan needed nourishment and wanted food, a good home cooked meal aboard the Atrus. Yeah, that would help him along the way to completing the upcoming mission.

Entering the mess hall, Etan glanced around and didn't immediatly see anyone he really knew. He didn't really care though because his attention was focused on food. Grabbing a tray and entering the chow line, he began to think about earlier events.

After the briefing, while on the way to quarters, Etan was introduced to the new recruit, Nabric, by none other than FL Krius. " Etan. I would like to introduce you to my new wingman, Nabric. " The two pressed palms, as was customary, eyeing each other intently. Etan couldn't help but notice the intensity of Nabric's stare, but shrugged it off as no threat to him. Wookies, as it were, were hardly afraid of anyone or anything. Etan merely welcomed him with a gentle roar, if there is such a thing for wookies. Nabric replied " I am honored master wookie Etan. May we live long and fly together.". Etan felt honored. This new pilot had the manners of a politician, yet the aura of a fighter. If Etan wasn't impressed before, he surely was now.

Etan's attention was drawn back to the moment at hand." DO YOU WANT GRAVY ON YOUR MEATLOAF? " the foodserver inquired annoyingly. Who knows how many times she had had to repeat herself. Etan simply nodded. He needed to concentrate about the task at hand, eating. There was a mission to prepare for.

Krius examined the room one last time, making sure he had stored everything away in his duffle bag. After giving the room a quick sweep with his eyes, he turned on his heel, and strode off towards the hangar bay. He pulled out his Data Pad as he maneuvered his way through the oncoming traffic, being careful not to bump into anybody as he did so. He wrote a message to his Flight Members, the message read:

Flight 2:

I'm making my way over to the hangar bay right now and plan on getting their a bit early. I want to get as much rest as possible before the mission starts, and I suggest you all do the same.

Chief Petty Officer Krius

He labeled the message urgent, that way as soon as they received it their Data Pads would ring and vibrate madly. It was a little tool all Flight Leaders and Squadron Commanders were given, and it came very handy in certain circumstances. Krius couldn't help but grin as he looked at his new rank.

Chief Petty Officer.

Not to long ago he was promoted to the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class, due to his excellent performance during the attack on Sira. With his broken arm, Krius decided that he would take the Senior Aviators Exam, which if completed, brought you to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His former Flight Leader C-3PX2 had also passed the Senior Aviators exam, only a day before Krius finished his. Krius noted that as soon as he saw his squadron mate, he would congratulate him on the promotion.

With the exception of Cyleaf, Krius' life was going perfect. All he needed now was a woman to make him happy, and he would be set for a good long while.

Cyleaf...

Krius still didn't know what to think of the whole situation. He wanted to visit Cyleaf badly, but he knew it wouldn't be right. He didn't have the heart to do it after taking his friends Flight Leader position. Than Sion had encouraged Krius to go see him, but Krius kept making up excuses to avoid the situation. Krius was pretty sure Than Sion had caught on by now, but Krius would keep them coming until his SC finally confronted him about the situation.

The two automated slide doors that led into the Atrus's hangar bay slid open with a hiss, making a couple of heads turn to the approaching Kaph Pilot. A few of the techs nodded at the newly crowned Flight Leader, Krius waving back in return. Jeez, since when did this many people know about me? The sudden attention was something Krius wasn't used to, but he enjoyed it.

Krius hopped onto one of the Turbo Lifts, hit the up button, and ascended to the second floor. He walked down the bridge that led to his TIE Interceptor, grinning at the new paint job. Someone had also polished it, giving it a nice sheen. The Transpariteel view port gleamed like it had never done before. Krius climbed on top of the ball cockpit, dropping his bag into the open hatch, not bothering to look if anyone was inside the cockpit.

"Ow!" Screamed a woman's voice from inside.

Krius nearly fell of the TIE Interceptor at the sound of the voice, regaining his composure before looking in to see who he had hit. He peered over the open hatch way, and just as he did so, a head full of dark red hair popped out of the hatch. Once again Krius came inches from falling off the TIE Interceptor.

"I'm sorry, I didn't see you in there, are you alright?" Krius asked apologetically as he stuck out his hand to help the woman out. She slapped it away, pulling herself out of the hatch door and taking a seat next to it. She rubbed the back of her head with grease stained hands, her face obscured by her hair.

"Uh," she growled in disgust. "Next time look before you toss something in there! And what's in that thing anyways? It feels like you stuffed a whole bunch of weights inside!"

"Hehe," Krius laughed nervously. "I actually do have a couple in there, so you're 'sorta right," Krius said, his trade mark grin playing across his face.

The red head looked up, brushing a lock of Strawberry red hair aside. Krius nearly collapsed at the woman's beauty, not knowing exactly what to say. Her eye's were a deep crystal green, not exactly intimidating, but close enough for Krius. Her facial features were exotic, and her lips were perfect. Even from the position she was sitting in, Krius could instantly tell that she had a perfect body. Her raggedy brown tech clothes and the smudges on her cheeks only added more to her wild features. She wore a red bandanna around her left arm, the knot facing the outside of her arm.

"So you gonna stare all day? I've got things to do buddy. C'mon, tell me what you think."

"Beautiful," said Krius, directing it more at her then his TIE.

Things just got a whole lot better...

There was never a break for the Elite Kaph Squadron. They would finish one mission, and be sent right into another.

C-3PX2 walked through the halls or the Atrus, walking past the Kaph Squadron Quarters. His appearance was almost scary, now more than ever. During the time between the missions they were on and this one, C-3PX2 returned to Etti IV to fight in the second war there in less than a year. This war had damaged his hull, making him almost have a humanoid shape at the head, and added many dents and burns to his hull. He walked into the hanger and all people could notice was this strange chrome droid with moving red eye. He walked over to his TIE Interceptor, opened a tool kit, and noticed something strange. He was expecting another "surprise" data pad to be there, but this time there was a letter that looked to be aged. He decided it would be best not to read it, at least not yet. He stashed it away in his hull's smuggling compartments and continued to go to work repairing damaged panels on his fighter. He noticed more damage than he could remember it having, but he continued to do his best to fix the panels. He looked around the anger and he noticed something. Everything seems too calm, normally this ship is hectic, and every one has something they need to do. Now, everyone is walking at a slow pace, concentrating on regular duties. This ship, no matter how calm it is, is always One hundred percent battle ready. The crew had to be ready to get into combat at a moment's notice. C-3PX2 watches this as he finished up repairs on his TIE. He cleaned up the small pieces of broken solar panels and left to go to the bar. There the true Irony comes out, a droid sitting in a bar. As he walked towards the bar, he stopped in the hall for a moment. He though "Why does a star destroyer have a bar?" it was a question that had puzzled him for a while now, he still does not have an answer. He then continued to walk towards the bar. In his mind over one thousand different processes were going through. They ranged from his walking speed, to the layout of the Atrus. HE approached the door to the bar, pushed the button, and walked into the bar. He did what he normally did, and walked over to the Holo net panel, and activated it. He began to scroll through recent news, and nothing caught his attention. But then he came across an article on an underground droid fight club, and how recently it was taken sown after being discovered on a cargo freighter. He laughed and continued to read. There was no real news for the day, so he logged out of the news server and continued to search through the Holo net.

This was only real break in between missions

Krius grabbed the woman's hand, pulling her out of the TIE's cockpit once again. "So, are you my personal Tech or something?" Krius asked with a malicious grin.

"Something of the sort. Why?"

"So if I were to ask you..." Krius thought about what he had just said, and then repeated himself. "So if I were to order you to go get a cup of coffee with me, then you would have to go?" Krius asked, his grin wider then before.

The woman couldn't help but giggle at Krius' attempt to ask her out on a date. "You're gonna have to try harder then that fly boy. Just because you knocked me on the head with that big bag of yours, doesn't mean I'm gonna be any more gullible."

"Haha, I still haven't gotten your name. I'm..."

"Chief Petty Officer Krius Chase. Born in Coronet of Correllia. Yea yea, I know. They forced me to learn almost everything about you. They force all the Techs to. Anyways, Krius, my name is Alana Teff, pleased to meet you," finished Alana, sticking out her hand.

"You're good," Krius said with admiration, grasping her hand in his. The two pumped hands, releasing a second later. "So everything huh? Do you know how much I weigh?"

"175 pounds, 4.0% body fat." She repeated, almost as if she rehearsed this every day.

"Jeez, they have you guys on lock. Not even I know how much I weight at the moment."

"Yea, you're in pretty good shape. Not so bad looking either. Catching a girl's attention must be easy for you," she said, checking Krius out with a sexy looking grin. "But I'm not just any girl. You're gonna have to try a lot harder then that fly boy. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna be late for my ride over to the Tiamut. I'll be seeing you around," Alana finished, turning on her heel and hopping off the Interceptor.

Krius watched her with admiration, letting his eyes linger for a second before turning his attention back to his refined Interceptor.

"Hey fly boy!"

Krius turned around, grinning at the sound of the familiar voice.

"I'll think about the date, see you on the Tiamut!" Alana called out before hitting the down button on the Turbo Lift. Krius couldn't help but laugh. The day couldn't have gotten any better. Now all he had to do was keep his Flight alive, and bring them back home.

Krius hopped into the Interceptors open hatch, reaching up and closing the hatch door. He twisted the handle, a loud mechanic clang signaling that it had locked into place. Krius circled his left arm, hearing a couple of joints crack as he did so. A few seconds later, Krius was safely secured in his harness, ready to begin the systems checkup. He reached over to the center control panel and pressed a yellow button down. A series of lights and the low whine of computer screens flickering to life filled the cockpit. Seconds later, on Krius' overhead display, a button flashed green. He punched the button and smiled as he heard the familiar high pitched whine of the Twin Ion Engines coming to life.

"This is Kaph 5 reporting to control, all systems are green, I'm good to go," Krius said, imitating a shuttle pilot's voice he heard not to long ago.

"Roger that 5, we'll bring you out."

The TIE Fighter lurched downwards for a split second, the Tractor Beam catching it in mid air. Krius felt the stick go slack as the Tractor Beam guided him to the Plasma Gate that kept the vacuum of space from sucking everything out. Krius shut his eyes as the Plasma Light grew brighter, opening them seconds later to find himself in the black void known as space.

He powered up the TIE's engines, and rocketed off towards his destination, and his new home.

Will noted dully as Vant reported to him that another fighter from Kaph Squadron has arrived. So unorganized. Will thought about his former squadron. Than Sion's been giving them slacks, allowing them to go from ship to ship any time they wished. What do they think they're doing? Visiting a friend's place at ten years old? They're on offical military operation. I'll have to have a talk with Than when he gets here.

Although he was asked to attend the brief about the upcoming mission, he didn't. The repairs from his last battle took longer than expected, thus was a little late. And no one seemed to have minded much anyways. Shazam had sent him the brief over to his datapad, which he had gone over a number of times to make sure he didn't miss anything.

Being an emergency operation it is, Will had ordered the navigations officer to have the course plotted as soon as they had arrived on station with the Atrus, and to be ready to take off as soon as everyone was on board. But that won't happen for another hour or so at least. The pilots were given three hours to prepare. Too much time wasted in Will's opinion. Back when he was in command, for emergency operations, he gave his squadron half an hour to prepare, maybe an hour at most, and no one was ever late. Well, why should I care that much now anyways. I'm not the one in command of the operation. So if they're given three hours to prepare by Shazam, then so be it.

"Sir, we're running out of space for the incoming squadrons."

"Move the fighters that won't be used on this mission to storage, that includes all of the personal fighters, and the Tie droid fighters. Make as much room for the Ties, and land Plaque Squadron in Hanger C, they're in Gunboats."

"Yes Sir. With that, the current docking pattern is..." Vant paused a bit before continuing, "Alpha and Beta Squadrons are to be docked in Hangers P and S respectively with the transports. Kaph Squadron ordered to dock in Hanger C, with Plaque on the ground. It's going to be a tight fit any way you look at it."

"What's the scramble pattern?"

"Plaque and Kaph Squadrons are to launch first through the center. Once they have achieved air superiority, the transports will launch from the side hangers, followed by Alpha and Beta Squadrons once the Hanger grounds have been cleared of transports."

"Good. Anything else?"

"No Sir."

"Then request permission to leave as soon as the fighter squadrons and transports are here. I'm going to be resting, so call me only if there's an emergency, other wise wake me when we're quarter of an hour from the destination."

"Sir, this is an emergency operation."

"Don't get smart with me, don't call me unless there's an immediate threat."

"Yes sir."

Kal ran the bug-check on the fighter's targeting software one more time. Before every operation he always did his own personal maintenance and adjusting on the fighter he was to use. It was no different this time.

It had been a while since he had flown a TIE fighter He had been fairly grounded while he was away from the squadron, and when he had flown it had been with the dark raven. He was looking forward to getting back to the dogfighting he remembered.

"Hey, Kal!" A familiar voice called out. The pilot climbed up to look out the hatch of the fighter, to see Mathew Scythe walking towards him.

"Mat." He said, grinning. He climbed out of the fighter and onto the platform. He hadn't seen Matthew since his return.

"Your back?" Matthew asked, grinning, "Does this mean we'll finally be rid of Sheldon?"

"Sheldon?" Kal replied, walking around his ship and examining it's hull to assure that it was undamaged.

"The fill-in navigations officer. The guy's an ass, was assigned the job when you dissapeared." Matthew replied. Kal paused What would happen with regards to his role aboard the Tiamut? He had never asked.

"I dunno. Even if I return, I'll be out in a fighter a lot, so you'll still have to deal with him." He said, popping open a panel beside the right ion engine.

"Well, anyways, I've gotta run Don't want Vant to get on my case for being away from the bridge too long in an 'emergency operation.'"

Kal grinned, and they said their goodbyes. He returned to working on his fighter.

It's good to be home.

"Than, what do you think about the new Wing Adjacent?" said the disembodied voice of Skylla.

"I don't know, he seems like a good person and all, but something doesn't feel right about him.  It's almost like...I don't know," replied Sion.

But he did know.  It was the same feeling he had had on his first mission on the ice planet of Bokura.  A black fighter of unidentified origin had been there.  Even though the mysterious pilot had helped them in their mission, it was a memory Sion had chosen to bury in his mind.  It had been long since forgotten until it came back after the emergency meeting.

"I can't understand why.  There was nothing suspicious about him that I could pick up.  He just seemed slightly annoyed, but that feeling wasn't anything rare at the meeting."

"I don't know, maybe I just haven't gotten enough sleep."

The Tiamut was like a little bug compared to the Super Star Destroy in parallel orbit beside it.  It was a sobering site to see the Atrus cutting Abrae in half.  Looking at the Escort Cruiser's mini Star Destroyer design, Sion hoped that he would never have to go up against the mSSD in it.  Though it was a silly thought for his loyalty was to the VE.  There would be no reason for him to turn against it.

"Lieutenant Than Sion, Squadron Commander of Kaph Squadron, asking permission for he and his comrade to board."

"This is Captain Willtconq of the Tiamut, permission granted.  Proceed to hanger C."

This should be interesting considering the fact that I haven't seen much of him since the day he stepped down as SC, leaving Kaph in my hands.  The two TIE Interceptors passed through the magnetic field, leaving the void behind.  It was a love hate relationship that Than had with that void which they called space.  On one hand, it was a vast expanse of nothingness.  A cold, airless place where a great many a men had claimed as a grave.  On the other hand, without it he would be nothing.  It was his place of work, the place where he had achieved "greatness."  Can I truly be called great?  A man who not only can tear flying beats of steel and glass apart but order others to do likewise.  It seems that my part in the galaxy is small and large, Important and insignificant.  But what does that matter?  All that matters is the fact that I keep on fighting, fighting for the day that all the Rebels are dead.

Sion docked with the TIE rack in hanger C.  An aid of sorts was waiting for him there as he exited the hatch.

"Was your flight eventful, sir," asked the aid after saluting Kaph 1.

"I flew my fighter from a huge ship to a little one, I don't think any space battles happened in between," replied Kaph Leader.

"I guess not, sir.  I have been sent to tell you that the captain wishes to meet you on the bridge, sir."

"Thank you Petty Officer.  I'll be there right away."  Sir, sir, sir...Will set him up to that, didn't he?

"Alright, sir."

By now Skylla was by his side again.  They went through the door that left the racks together.

"Are you happy to be meeting up with the old commander after all this time?" asked Skylla as they walked through the corridors.

"Happy, kind of.  Afraid of getting yelled at for messing up his squadron, a lot of."

Skylla just laughed.  Will had never been much for yelling...

Etan finished up his second helping of meatloaf and mashed potatoes all loaded with gravy. There was nothing like a meal on the great expanse of the Atrus to calm the soul with comfort. The kitchen crew there was hand picked and known throughout the fleet as the finest. And what else would you expect for the elite of the elite. Now if he only had time to lay down and rest a bit before he had to finish packing for Kaph's latest mission.

He pulled out his data pad to look at the time. Damn, he was running late. Not only that but there was a message from Fl Krius. " Report to the hanger bay ASAP." Why did he turn the data pad's messaging system off? He knew why. It was because he wanted to enjoy his last good meal in peace, without interuption. But, he should have known. The minute he ever turns that thing off, someone is trying to contact him. He hated them damn things. Without them he could make up some sort of exuse. But, with one you had no exuse for not getting your messages.

So Etan moved. He knew the time for debating was not now.. He needed to get ready and go. By the time he reached the hanger bay, most of the Kaph had departed for the Tiamut. Etan took the lift and threw his two bags behind the pilot's seat. There wasn't anytime to think about what to take or not. He had merely stuffed his bags and was ready for departure. He did, however grab his crossbow and stowed it beside his seat. He had thought he could just use it as a decoy from all the fun they were about to have.

Launching into space, Etan made two fore flight checks and then a barrel roll, just to see how the fighter was flying. It was flying excellently.

"Kaph 2-7 to the Tiamut. Please advise as to what hanger bay you want me to land in." While awaiting instructions, Etan made a number of manuveurs on the Tiamut that would show his fighters strength. " One, two three kills" Etan repeated to himself, as if the  Tiamut was the enemy.

So that's the Tiamut eh? Pretty nice ship. Can't wait to see what it looks like on the inside. Krius eyed the Hellfire-class Escort Carrier with admiration, taking in every detail as he passed. The hull of the massive ship gleamed in the light reflected by the giant planet Abrae, the Heavy Ion Cannons adding to its deadly, but magnificent beauty. Krius could imagine himself at the controls of such a ship in the future, barking out orders left and right, providing support for the brave Fighter Pilots such as himself.

He shook his head, diminishing the though. I'm not that kind of person, nor will I ever be. I'll stick to being a Fighter Pilot, its what I do best. Krius gently nudged the control yoke to his right, bringing his ship around in a long loop that eventually brought him face to face with The Tiamut.

"This is Kaph 5, requesting permission to come aboard the Tiamut."

"Permission granted 5, throttle down to 25 MGLT's and we'll bring you in."

"Roger that." Krius pulled back on his throttle, watching his speed slowly drop down to 25 MGLT's. Seconds later, an invisible hand dropped over Krius' TIE, slowly lowering it into one of the many hangar bay's aboard the Tiamut. Krius quickly undid his harness, throwing the belt buckles this way and that. As he reached down for his duffel bag, something caught his eye. What? I thought I shut the TIE down? Krius reached over to the device that was flashing on and off, stopping his hand in mid motion. Wait, that's not part of the TIE's control panel... That's a Data Pad!

Krius picked the Data Pad up, curiosity written all over his face. On the blue screen in bold lettering, it read: "1 new message. URGENT!"

"I might as well open it, I'm pretty sure she won't kill me if I do. Besides, she left it in my TIE, might as well be mine." Krius said to himself with a grin.

The message read:

Krius

I need my DP back pronto; it has very important information in it that you shouldn't be looking at. Nice way to schedule a date with me though, very original. Just meet me in the
Tiamut's Diner, and DON'T forget my DP.

Cya soon Fly Boy.

"Oooohhh, she's good, really good. How classic of her," Krius said aloud to himself sarcastically, grabbing his Duffel Bag and throwing it out of the open hatch of the TIE. Krius chuckled softly, not fully able to believe what was happening to him. Everything was going perfect. To perfect for Krius' comfort. He wasn't exactly superstitious, but he did have his beliefs. One thing he happened to notice was that when ever something good happened to him, something bad followed shortly afterwards. Krius slapped his forehead with a loud smack, letting his hand sift through his hair one of the many bad habits he had developed throughout his childhood.

I might as well have fun while it still lasts...

The Tiamut's Bridge

Skylla and Than entered into a room full of blinking lights and displays.  An interesting fact about the Tiamut was that the tall structure mounted near the stern of the ship was not the bridge (though it is no coincidence that it resembles the bridge of a Star Destroyer greatly).  The control center of the ship is actually located in the round structure at the bow of the Tiamut, above the forward hanger doors.

"Officer on deck!" yelled out someone.  With synchronization that only came with practice, all the personnel on the bridge stood up at attention next to their stations.

"Vant, I presume," said Kaph 1 after returning the salute.

"That would be correct, and you're Than Sion," replied the middle aged man.  "Welcome to the Tiamut."

I bet it was the hair that gave me away.  He's doing pretty well at keep a straight face but I can tell its driving him nuts.  He's wondering why Will handed down Kaph to a man with such messy hair.

"Thank you, I was told that I was to meet your captain here," replied Sion.

"There must be some mistake; he's resting right now in his quarters.  It must have been the new aid.  I told him that Captain Willtconq would like to see you before we made the jump.  We'll have to correct the problem..."

"No need, people make mistakes.  In this occupation the one just made is not that serious."

I can tell he doesn't like me.  I'm going against his exacto knife ways.

"I see... I'll let Willtconq introduce you to the rest of the bridge crew later.  I'll have the aid you seem to have taken favor to show you to your rooms."

Sion looked over to see the same Petty Officer from earlier standing to the side.  The blood was drained out of his face.  Sion saluted the crew once more and then left with Skylla and the aid.

As soon they cleared the door, Skylla began to speak.  "I think he hates you."

"Men like him tend to hate people like me.  They are so attached to protocol and tradition that it blows their mind for someone to blow even minor formalities off," replied Sion.  "Besides, I really don't care what he thinks of me.  Will has faith in me and that is all that matters for keeping the peace."

"I sure hope so."

"Here is our room, sir," said the aid.  "I hope the accommodations are to your liking.  I'll leave you here while I take the Warrant Officer to her own quarters if you don't need anything."

"Thank you Petty Officer.  I actually do need one thing, I never did get a name," replied Sion.

"It's Gal Runner, sir."

Kaph Leader dismissed Runner to go about his duties before entering his room.  This is about the only place in the entire fleet that each member of a squadron gets their own place to sleep.  Than Sion smiled, his accommodations weren't half bad.  His quarters were very roomy for being aboard a ship.  Though the bed was only a single bolted to the far wall, he could tell already that it was very comfortable.  There was a nice sized square, wooden table bolted to the deck, flanked by two chairs of similar design (also bolted down.)  Everything is bolted down on a ship.  They'd probably bolt down the crew if they didn't have to move.  There was also a small closet next to the full bathroom and a set of drawers mounted above the bed.  A night stand stood next to the bed.  There was an envelope sitting on top of it...

(OCC: Heh, forgot that Will was sleeping when writing my last post.  I fixed that with this one though.)

" Kaph two dash seven, proceed to the main docking bay. All the other bays are full and it seems as if you Kaph have decided to come and go and land as you please."  Etan shrugged those last comments of. " Affirmative Tiamut control. Landing in the main docking bay."

Of course we the Kaph squadron had come as we please. Etan one of the last fighters was still landing before scheduled. What did it matter to them how we came or went, as long as we completed the mission. Then Etan remembered " Oh yes our old SC Willtconq is in command of the Tiamut and he is one to expect order and decorum within the fleet. Well he's gonna have to understand that we have changed since he last held command of Kaph. He is not in command anymore. Than sets the rules now for Kaph."

Etan landed his Interceptor perfectly, hovering right into docking sequence. He powered down the engines and made a post flight check. All systems were still a go. Climbing out with his two flight bags, he roared at the head technician to give er' one final diagnostics check and other than that to leave er' alone.

Etan turned one last time before making his way towards quarters and roared again " Now don't mess er' up or I'll rip the head off of anyone who does. " With that he made his way towards quarters. He looked forward to a squadron meeting, since they hadn't had one before leaving the Atrus.

The quarters were a short ways away. Each member had his own room. The quartermaster met Etan in the hall. " Your room Master wookie Etan is just right here." The quarters for a flight member were small, but, effeficient. Etan set his bags on the bunk and turned towards the quarter mast asking him" Show me to the mess hall. I am hungry." "Most assuredly Master wookie Etan. Right this way." At that they set off towards the mess hall. Etan with his appetite in hand.

Aristoc Pere rode the lift up to the catwalk that extended out over the landing racks where the Kaph Squadron TIE Interceptors hung, ready for launch. His flight helmet tucked under his left arm, he ran a gloved hand along the Kaph Crest that had been newly sewn onto the left sleeve of his black flightsuit. A few blood-red stripes ran along the right sleeve and down the legs. Just the sight of the Kaph Squadron's signature crest and the ruby stripes on his uniform filled Aristoc with more pride than any of the kill markers he had earned in the past.

Beside him, Trigger caught Aristoc admiring his stripes. "Just wait 'til you see the stripes on our new toys, bud," he said, offering a jubilant grin. As the lift reached the catwalk, Aristoc spotted the Interceptors, tucked into the second row in the hangar, with twin horizontal red stripes painted on the wing arrays. Aristoc and Trig each trotted over to their respective fighters, their boots clanking on the durasteel catwalk. All around the landing racks, various techs and the other members of Kaph Squadron moving about their ships.  C-3 was already at his Interceptor, situated right besides Pere's, and observing a tech changing the filter on the ship.

"Hey C, what is up, I missed the meeting unfortunately, paperwork kept me up?"

"Hey Aristoc, just a routine ship transfer for us for now. I'll give you a recording of the briefing later."

"You recorded it?"

"I am a droid, sir."

"Ah, point taken."

Aristoc ran his hand along the Interceptor's wing, this craft was beautifully constructed, whoever had her last certainly took care of her.  "Jenolan" the Ksei muttered under his breath.

"What was that?" C-3 turned his head to his wingmate.

"Just naming my ship, Jenolan."

Before C-3 could question the Ksei's tradition of naming his fighters, Aristoc donned the black helmet, attached the air hoses leading from the life-support chest-box he wore, and climbed down into his fighter. Pulling the hatch closed, he dogged it secure and strapped himself into the TIE's command couch. Flipping switches on the control console, he went through his preflight checklist. From his helmet comlink, he heard the Hangar Manager order him to report his status.  Following strict protocol hammering in by years of drilling, Aristoc replied, "This is Kaph Ten, running green."

"Okay you are clear Ten, launch. Your orders are to rendezvous at the Tiamut"

With the flip of a switch, Ashton engaged his Interceptor's repulsorlifts and released the landing brackets holding him to the rack. Off his starboard wing, C-3 and Trigger, Aristoc's companions in Three Flight, did likewise. Nudging the throttle forward, Aristoc followed C-3's Interceptor out into the open expanse of vacuum. Rotating the control yoke, Aristoc vectored his craft onto the appropriate heading and increased the throttle to sixty-six percent.

After a brief flight, the Tiamut's hanger loomed over Three Flight, following the protocol landing procedures.

Stepping out of the Interceptor cockpit onto another a narrower catawalk than the first, Aristoc noticed that C-3 and Trigger were already at least a good fifty meters ahead of him, walking towards the heavy blast door at the end of the cockpit.  Aristoc started to jog while taking his helmet off, his bumped into someone, and quickly apologized while finally pulling the helmet off.  He quickly snapped his mouth shut however when he realized he had bumped into the hangar's operator.

The slender operator of the Tiamut's Hangar wore the uniform of an Imperial in service of the Navy, blood-red in color rather than the standard grey. Her jet-black hair hung down to her shoulders with a pair of white side locks starting down from her temples. Her most distinctive feature, though, was her eyes. Her right eye, an icy blue, was colder than a Hoth glacier. In contrast, her left eye was a fiery red, as though the iris itself were made of molten lava. Her stance was one of unconcern, showing that whatever Aristoc thought, it was unimportant. She injected only the barest hint of curiosity into her voice. "Is there a problem," Her eyes dropped momentarily to glance at his rank, "Senior Crewman?"

Err, I hope C-3 and Trig don't turn around.

"Umm, it was an accident?"

"Perhaps you should remove your helmet before walking?"

Aristoc nodded sheepishly, and noticed Trigger grinning and making vulgar gestures.  Oh god&

C-3PX2 had just landed with his flight. They were now on board the Tiamut, C-3PX2 was going to put his stuff into his room. He knew in a short time they would be on a mission, so he decided to review the logs for the ship they were going to get. There was very little data on this ship, not much was known. C-3PX2 decided it was time to do a little searching around the New Republic's Section of the Holo Net. He searched through the Holo net, but did not find any data. If the New Republic had any information about this fighter, they were keeping it well hidden. He was not sure why there was no data, not even a trail. He intended to find out, but now was not the time. He exited out of the Holo net, and left the room. He began to walk down the halls trying to locate the Squadron's Commander, Ensign Than Sion. He was also looking at a data pad showing his flight readiness level when he noticed something new. There was a more recent addition to the log. A new pilot was added to the Flight, Petty Officer First Class Scout. This was a good thing; the flight now had four members again. There was now Chief Petty Officer C-3PX2 as the Flight Leader at Kaph 9, Senior Crewman Aristoc a Flight member at Kaph 10, Petty Officer First Class Scout a Flight Member at Kaph 11, and Crewman Trigger a Flight Member at Kaph 12.

C-3PX2 continued to search for his squadron commander, when he noted that there was something different about this ship. It seemed that this ship was fifty percent carbon based life form run, and fifty percent droid run. He kind of liked the idea that these droid ran the ship, there was never disorder. That would go against their programming, and if there was the carbons would just do a memory wipe. He saw mostly the basic battle droid design; these droids were cheaply made and could be produced in massive amounts. He continued to walk and then he found a computer panel, he activated it and did a run through of the ship. He was surprised to see that this ship had linked computer systems; this was good for accessibility but had many flaws. All someone would need to do I compromise the main security grid, and then they could get to anywhere on the ship, or at least that how it appeared at first glance. C-3PX2 did not have the security clearance to see the high end security systems. He felt at home on this ship, there were his squad mates and droids all around, he noticed a door behind him and pressed the door panel, a label appeared that said Droid repair center. He pressed the panel again, and the door opened. He looked inside and saw computer parts and broken droids, this was where he would be until the squadron started their mission. In the Droid Repair Center, fixing droids and working on the computer system.

Than Sion picked up the white, unmarked envelope and opened it.  The tearing sound matched his internal concern of its purpose.  Though when he began reading it his anxiety was put to rest.

Dear Lieutenant Than Sion

I hope these accommodations are to your liking.  They are sparse, though I didn't have much to work off of since you aren't much of a material person.  The sheets are blue though, I remembered that that was your favorite color.  Oh yes, there is not a comb anywhere in the room as well.  I don't know why I took the effort to prepare your room, from what I hear you're doing a lousy job with my squadron!

Check your data pad.  I have sent the new, higher level, access codes to you for the Tiamut.  Memorize them ASAP and then destroy the message.  You and your men might as well get comfortable, for now on you will be stationed aboard this ship.  Don't forget to change your ID lines.  Your squadron's remaining personal belongings will be shipped her after the current mission.

One last thing, look in the left most bottom drawer.  I know you aren't much for drinking, but I know it is what you drink when you do.

--Lieutenant Willtconq

He checked the respected drawer; there was a bottle of Corellian Whiskey sitting inside.

"This is my room, right?" said an overly cocky voice.

"Nice to see you made it, Krius," replied Sion with a grin on his face.  "And no, the big room is mine."

"That's no fair; you shouldn't get the big room just because you're the commander."

"Unfortunately that is how it works in the real world.  You better like your actual room, you'll be sleeping in it a lot for now on."

"We're finally being transferred to the Tiamut."

"Correct, so drop any evil ideas you have about harassing Will because they'll come back to haunt you."

"Me.  Evil ideas.  Never."

"Right."

"I leave you alone for five minutes and he comes by to corrupt you further," said an annoyed female voice.

"Hey Skylla, you're here to break up with Than and go out with me, right?" remarked Krius with his trade mark evil grin.

"In your dreams, shorty," replied Skylla coldly.

"That hurts, that hurts a lot.  Tell her that was uncalled for, Than."

"I could, but I don't want to get my ass kicked," said Than.  "Hey Krius, did you run into that one tech chick?"

"If you mean the red head then yes," replied Kaph 5.

"Did she go into a panic attack when she saw you?"

"You heartless ass," scolded Skylla, hitting Than for the third time.

"Ow, why do you have to be so abusive?" asked Than.

"Actually, I think she is going to go out with me," replied Krius.

"She has no taste then," remarked Skylla.  "Who in their right mind would go out with a nuisance like?"

"You know you want some!"

"Why you little..."

Before Than could say anything, Krius was running like the wind with Skylla on his six.  Dumb ass, thought Than as he began to unpack.  I sure hope she doesn't hurt him too bad...

Etan, having landed, and upon depositing his bags in his quarters, made his way to the mess hall. It was here that made or broke a ship, as far as he was concerned. The morale of a fighter lay in his stomach, and Etan was ready to sample some morale.

The Tiamut's 1st mess hall was highly organized. The chow line to the right, along with the tables to the left, gave the feeling of comfort to the hungry wookie. Working his way on down the line, he found such dishes as Chicken Tetrazinni and Teriaki shrimp.

"Wow" he thought to himself." This is almost as good as the Atrus." Choosing from several different dishes, Etan sat down in wonder as to why he had to have that last meal aboard the Atrus.

Sitting at a table alone with his meal, Etan began to pray to the Gods that gave him this very special meal. He looked around quickly to see if anyone he knew was watching. There wasn't, that he could see. It was time to eat. In just an instant he had scarfed down his fifth meal of the day. Now the wookie was satisfied.

If only his crewmates had the same fervor as him. He would have to compliment Commander Will on his effeciency of the ship.

Willtconq had been a FL of his and then squadron commander. Would he remember the big ole wookie? He was sure he would. There weren't to many wookies in the fleet, and certainly none except Etan in the Kaph. Etan was sure that Will would remember him. Not only that, but Etan had a few issues he was sure Commander Will would understand.

"Haha! You'll never be able to catch me Skylla! Leave me alone and give Than Sion some good loving!" Mocked Krius as he ran down the deserted hallways of the Tiamut.

"Uh," growled Skylla in disgust. "You're so lucky were not flying."

Krius stopped at the end of the hallway, turned around, and let off a mock salute. "I'll cya soon Skylla, I got a date to catch." With that, he began making his way over to the Tiamut's Diner, a grin of satisfaction settled smugly across his face.

Wow, Will must be really happy with this ship. I wonder how he's doing... Krius remembered is old Squadron Commander, leading Krius through his first mission in the VEN. From what Krius could remember, he was a good man, and a good Commander. He expected only the best from his Pilots, and that was exactly what he had gotten in return. And from what Krius had seen so far, he had his crew on lock.

He grinned, imagining the veteran Pilot barking orders left and right, sitting comfortably in his Command Chair, with a flask of Correllian Whiskey in his hand. Alright, don't over exaggerate. Krius trailed his right hand along the shiny Dura-Steel wall, humming a catchy tune he had heard one day at the gym.

A couple minutes later...

Krius had chosen a seat near the back of the Diner, right next to the view port that overlooked Space. An irreplaceable smile rested across his face, and no matter how hard he tried, it never came off. For some reason he didn't feel nervous anymore, maybe it was due to the fact that he had scored a date with an amazing girl, or maybe because his life was almost perfect. Either way, it didn't matter, nothing would take that dumb grin off his face.

As he sat there, staring off into the deep black void known as space, he wondered what his enemy was doing. For all he knew, there could be someone exactly like Krius, maybe not as good looking, but very similar. Were they thinking the same thing as him? Then Krius remembered. The enemy wouldn't know that Kaph was coming, unless they had sources inside the VEN, but that was almost impossible. Kaph had the overall advantage in this battle, and before the enemy would have any time to react, many would be killed. He never did like surprise tactics, he thought them rather unfair. But then again it was war, and war wasn't supposed to be fair. It was either kill, or be killed.

Krius zoned back in, blinking a couple of times to regain focus. In the reflection of the view port, he noticed a slim figure approaching his table, her wild strawberry hair falling past her shoulders. He felt his grin widen, and his eye's go wide with excitement. Alana stopped next to Krius who paid no attention to her, acting as if he were day dreaming.

"Ahem," coughed Alana, Krius turning around in response. "I think you have something of mine?" She said, cocking an eyebrow.

"What? I have no clue what you're talking about," Krius said sarcastically.

"Haha, very funny Krius. Hand it over, and I'll have a seat."

"Thats a very nice proposition, and I would love to accept, but I already know what you're gonna do. Once I give it to you, you're gonna leave. You're the type that likes to play hard to get," Krius replied casually.

"Oh alright Mr.Knowitall," Alana said, pulling out the chair opposite to Krius. "I liked the way you set this up. Taking my Data Pad so we could meet up for sure. That was very original."

Krius reached into his pocket, pulling out Alana's Data Pad. "I didn't even notice it until you sent me the message. I think you're the guilty one here," Krius said, handing the Data Pad over. "So... You willing to stay here with me and chat for a bit? Or do you have something better to do?" Krius asked, looking her right in the eye.

The two stared at each other for a bit, and then she grinned. A grin that made Krius go nuts on the inside. "Fine, just for a little bit though."

"Captain, we've hit a road block with the fighter."

"What is it Lieutenant?"

"As you know we had to force our way to the tracking device to remove it since we couldn't figure out the computer system."

"I remember reading your report, you're lucky you found it before you got here.  I'm also glad to hear you all were intelligent enough to drop out of hyperspace after removing it and then taking another route to throw them off our scent.  Go on."

"Well, we still haven't been able to hack past the controls.  These Imps have this thing locked down tighter than their asses."

"Don't trip over such details, Lieutenant.  Gut out the whole computer system and stick in a new one.  We only care about the hyperdrive after all.  Hell, try out one of those new control set ups while you're replacing the old one.  Might as well kill two birds with one stone."

"I would highly recommend that we don't do that.  The only person we have found that can use that system is well...it."

"Now, now, Lieutenant, is that anyway to refer to a veteran pilot of the Galactic Civil War?"

"Yeah, that's about the only thing productive that psychopath can do, shoot down TIEs.  IT can't even talk as far as we know and don't refer to that mindless babbling of it's as speech.  Bottom line I don't think we should be trusting him with such a discovery."

"Why not, he's had many chances in the past to run.  Every time we've sent him out on a hyperspace mission he always comes back."

"Yet, any day it could just stop listening to you and turn on us."

"Why would he?  He has to come back when he gets hungry after all."

"You should stick him in a loony bin where he belongs!"

"Fortunately for me that's for me to decide.  He's too valuable of an asset to the NR cause to lock away..."

Locked Quarters within Asteroid Research Center

Kaph Leader's Quarters Aboard the Tiamut

"Sion!"

"How?!" cried Sion.  "The pills were suppose to make you go away!  How many times do I have to say it, you don't exist!  You're a chemical imbalance in my brain."

Than was still in his room, but everything had shifted to black and white.  He turned around to see an astromech sitting by the door.  It was motionless, but he knew that was where the voice came from.

"I am more than medication can fix.  I am more than chemicals."

"Chaos, that's all you are.  Nothing happened on Talcroc.  It was just a waste of time."

"Did they really succeed at making you forget?  I thought you were stronger than that.  The four others of the Five seem to have the same story as you.  Though three are gone, one remains.  Have you ever tried to talk about it to her since the return from Talcroc?  Of course not, you're too afraid that she'll think you are crazy."

"I remember nothing and neither does she because nothing happened."

"Keep on telling yourself that.  While you are in denial you might want to consider what I have to tell you.  There is another like you...His skills are yours.  You'll understand this when you need to.  That is all; you can go back to believing the pills are working now."

The color returned and the droid was gone.  I thought he was gone.  I thought this nightmare was over.  I thought I was done being crazy...

(OCC: Heh, I thought it would be fun to screw with your minds for a bit.  The whole Talcroc/Chaos plotline was suppose to be explained in the Nova Path story.  Unfortunately my character was correct about one thing; nothing did happen on Talcroc since the story was abandoned before we even got there.  Will, I would really appreciate it if you wrote the post pertaining to us making the jump to hyperspace and you introducing me to the rest of the bridge crew.  You would be able to portray that situation a lot better than I.)

After lying on the bed for an hour, Will still couldn't find the darkness of sleep. He had hoped to catch a few hours of sleep before the actual battle began. But it eluded him as if there was a force that just didn't want him to drop off into nothingness. At last, he gave up trying to rest and went to his desk to get some paper work done. He looked over the reports of the squadrons and pilots his ship was carrying. Looking over their achievements and any know tactics used in combat. It wasn't much, since good tactics were usually not written down, simply because they were just spurt of the moment ideas based on current situations.

It then dawned upon him that he hasn't even talked to any of them yet. And if he had fallen asleep, he would've sent them to battle without ever knowing some of them. Although, he doubted that he will actually get to know anyone in such a short amount of time, besides the ones he already knew. But then again, he hasn't talked to them much since he moved to the captain position. But that sort of things will have to wait until the end of the battle. He knew that some won't be coming back, but it's war, and he has long been trained to not hold too much emotions toward fellow comrades. Even if the VE encouraged such interactions, it's still war, and people are bound to die.

With that, he decided to get to planning his attacks. When he was done, he called up Vant on his comm. "Mr. Vant," knowing they weren't in hyperspace yet because there was no sudden change in speed, Will asked, "who are we still waiting for?"

"The last the shuttles are on approach sir. We should be jumping to hyperspace in no more than five minutes."

"Good. As soon as we make the jump to light speed, prepare meeting room M-1. I would like to hold a brief meeting between the commanders. All squadron commanders are required to attend, their XO's are also requested, but do not have to attend."

"Very good, I'll get to it right away."

A few minutes later, Will felt the ship speed up, then jumped into hyperspace. He gathered his papers, smoothed out his slightly crumpled uniform, and headed toward M-1. When he arrived, almost everyone was already there. A droid was stationed by the doorway, when Will approached the door, it announced the arrival of a commanding officer through a monotone voice. "Officer on deck." Everyone turned their head in the room toward the doorway, then stood and saluted the Captain.

It was the first time Will had presided over this many commanders. He felt oddly out of place since he was at their position not long ago. But through natural reactions, he quickly replied "At ease." There was still a number of seats empty around the circular table, but Will guessed that those belonged to the XOs of the squadron commander, who probably won't be attending. The reason all meeting room tables on the ship was the classical idea of every participating members of the meeting are equal, no one more important than another.

Taking the seat to the left of Vant, Will sat, and brought out his data pad, which he inserted into a slot under the table. The hologram of an asteroid field appeared in the center of the table, floating in the air.

"Thank you all for coming to this meeting in such a short notice. To be honest, the thought of a briefing with you had completely eluded me until only before the jump. So please pardon the suddenness. And we shall get going with the briefing." Will paused a bit to let the commanders get into the mood for a briefing. "As you all know, we're going to the Pandora system. But since it is an asteroid belt, it will be hard for me to put you directly at the location. I will try my best to put you as close to the subject as possible, because surprise is our element for now, but don't be alarmed if you're still a good number of clicks from the base when we jump out of hyperspace."

Will reached under the table and pressed a few buttons. The hologram zoomed into a specific area of the asteroid field, then a few points of interest appeared in a general area. "Those points are what our computers have determined as possible locations of defensive structures. Our approach will be this red dot, where we jump out of the hyperspace. I will then proceed to go as far into the asteroid field as possible before you launch. Once you launch, your objectives will be to take out the defensive structures, and then land the commandos onto the base. Aside from the transport that will be carrying the commandos, I suggest that we send in a platoon of battle droids for a larger attack. The faster and harder we hit them, the easier it will be for us to capture our main objective. But that will mean more work for your fighters to cover the increased number of transports."

"Captain, that was not in the orders given by Captain Shazam during the briefing aboard the Atrus." Major Yale replied. "This was supposed to be a secretive mission, where my commandoes get in, get out with the Hunter, and then you get out ass out of the system. Not an all out battle."

"And what happens if the defense at the target facility is too strong? We cannot afford to have you or your team killed, Major."

"My team will not fail." Yale replied sternly in self defense.

"I'd like to believe that, but past experience taught me that it's unwise to believe failure is impossible."

"What Will is saying is right. Major, we need all the help we can get. The intel that we were given only told us the location of the base. We have no idea how lightly or heavily it is defended. It's better to be safe than sorry." Than, commander of Kaph, spoke after considering the offer. "But, Will, this is a VE operation, we can't allow your personal property to get involved."

"I don't see a difference between using them, as if you were to use your own gun."

"I don't see a difference between using them, as if you were to use your own gun."

I wonder how C-3PX2 would feel if he heard such a dismissive attitude toward his kin?  Would it even faze him?

"Beyond that, the Major also had a good point," continued Kaph Leader.  "This mission was meant to be surgical; withdrawing a platoon afterwards could get messy and tedious.  Sticking around too long with a force this small wouldn't be wise.  So I must agree with him in declining your offer, though I didn't have much of a choice in the first place.  Major Yale is my superior in this operation.  I don't believe there would be a problem with putting your droids on standby, though."

"I have no problem with that concept," replied Yale.  His relief at the fact that military structure was not falling apart was obvious.  "With that settled, I would like to report some information that I discovered while studying intelligence's map of the Pandora System.  Permission to use the holo projector, Captain."

"Permission granted, I'm not going to stop you from showing us something that could save more lives," said Will.

"I'm zooming the map into a specific body within the hot zone of the asteroid belt.  Lieutenant Sion, can you tell me what that is?"

"I believe you're talking about the canyon."

"Correct, through it we would be able to avoid a large portion of the mine field since it's in one of the bigger rocks.  Something else interesting is where it comes out, very close to the predicted location of the mine control center."

"I'm impressed, how did you pick that out in such short time?  It's like a needle in a haystack." asked Plague Squadrons Commander.

"Its amazing what you can learn in a total of two years worth of training and five years field experience," replied Major Yale.

"As good of a find as it is, it will spoil if they discover our position too quickly," began Sion.  "I recommend that Kaph and the first shuttle are to be sent through the canyon first to shut down the mines before the others move in."

"I agree, Lieutenant," replied Yale.  "Actually, that was what I was thinking.  Plague squadron and the second transport will meet up with us after we deactivate the mine field.  Things will go back to the original plan form there on out.  That's all I have to say, anything else from Kaph Leader or the Captain?"

"Nothing from me, Major," replied Willtconq.

"I have something to say to the pilots before we wrap this meeting up.  Make sure when you're out there to stick to your duty.  Don't get any ideas of playing 'hero' because that could cause this whole thing to fall apart.  This needs to be quick and clean.  Make sure that all fighters and the transports are warmed up because we're going to hit the ground running.  I am finished now."

"The Tiamut will be covering what's going on during the battle so don't be afraid to ask control questions if you are confused about something," stated the ship's captain.  "Good luck and Godspeed to you all.  Dismissed..."

"I'm from Correllia, and I was born in Coronet, just like you," Alana said to Krius with a smile.

"Wow, that's one thing we have in common. Hmmm, you do look rather familiar..." Krius said, eyeing her with curiosity. "You look like this girl I took on a ride in my land speeder, we had fun that night... Do you remember anything like that happening to you?"

Alana giggled. "You wish that girl would have been me, and there's no way I would have rode in the same land speeder as you."

"You should take that back, 'cus you're sitting with me right now."

"Only because I feel bad. Don't take this as anything special fly boy."

"Haha alright. Hey do you want anything to drink? Coffee or anything? Its on me," Krius said, pulling out a wad of Imperial Credits.

"No thanks, I can pay for myself," replied Alana, pulling out a bigger stack.

"Awww c'mon, I hate it when girls pay for themselves," Krius said, gesturing for the waiter to come over.

"May I help you?" Asked the Twi'lek waiter, eyeing the couple curiously.

Krius gestured over to Alana, signaling for her to order her drink. She gave him an irritated look before ordering. "Yes, I'd like to have a cup of Correllian Coffee, lots of sugar please."

"And I'd like a glass of water," added Krius, handing the Twi'lek waiter 20 credits before Alana could do so her self.

"It should be ready in five minutes," said the Twi'lek before walking away.

"You don't like Coffee?" Alana asked Krius, looking slightly surprised.

"Heh, I can't drink crap like that. I have to stay as healthy as possible if I expect to become a top notch fighter," Krius said, turning his attention to Alana's red bandanna. "Hey, what's with that around your arm?"

"This?" She replied. "My mom gave it to me; she wears the exact same thing on her arm also. It's kind of like a good luck charm."

"Heh, I don't believe in luck. I never was a lucky guy& Well, maybe for the exception of this day and meeting you, but that's about it."

"Aww how cute," replied Alana in a mock tone. "But its not going to work on me fly boy," she said with an evil grin.

"Yea yea, that's what they all say."

Krius turned to face the approaching Twi'lek waiter, who was now gently planting the cups down on the table. "You two have a nice day."

"You to..."

Fifteen Minutes later

"Well that was nice," Krius said, turning to face Alana in front of the entrance to the Diner.

"Yea, I guess I should say thanks."

"No need, I should be the one saying thank you," Krius replied.

"Your welcome then," Alana replied with a giggle. "I have to go now, but I'll stop by the hangar to say good bye."

"Alright, thanks, it'd be really nice to see your pretty little face before I leave."

Alana playfully punched Krius on the arm. "I'll cya later fly boy," she said with a wink, turning around to leave.

Krius softly rubbed the spot where she had punched him, and then turned around, walking towards his newly assigned room to get prepared for the mission.

Chief Petty Officer C-3PX2 sat in the droid repair center, for some reason he liked it better than the quarters that were assigned to him. He was in there working on the droids that were in there, he looked at what they were marked in disbelief. The majority of them in the room were marked scrap. He then noticed a Holo Net panel sitting over on the other side of the room. It was broken, and it needed much repair before it could be used again. Luckily C-3PX2 was in a scrap yard, he could get all the parts he needed from the droids around him. He knew that soon enough his squadron would be in combat and this was his rest time. The Tiamut was mostly quiet, besides the regular comm. announcement it was a ghost ship. The bridge was all fully manned, the weapons fully combat ready. The halls were mostly empty; the ship was half droid half humanoid. It was able to run while all the crew would be incapacitated or killed. C-3PX2 almost couldn't wait to see this ship in combat. He wished they would let him see the AI programming that this ship had to have. It was an amazing ship, built to perfection at every angle.

He though back to the most recent thing he had done before coming here to the Tiamut. He had just returned from Etti IV, where the Loyalists had won control of the planet back. They were first defeated, but they returned with a massive space force. They trapped all of their enemies on the planet where they then strategically landed troops to defeat them. With a massive fifty seven consecutive battles, the won the planet back. C-3PX2 then got up and looked at the droids laying there; it reminded him of the destruction in the first war. His entire platoon, destroyed from mortars. HE then walked out of the droid repair center and walked towards the TIE hanger. "A Tie Hunter, he thought, "those things are rare. Where the hell did they get one? And how is it .5 for it engines. None of this is making sense." He continued to walk down the hall, "Most of those things haven't been seen in combat since the battle of Fondor. Where did they get one?" He was confused, as he entered the hanger bay. He slowly walked towards his TIE interceptor. He looked around and noticed all the different droids just in the hanger. He didn't think there would be much work that needed done to his TIE, but the sight of all the dead droids just brought back too many memories of Etti IV.  All the death, destruction, and bloodshed, He hoped to never have to go back to Etti IV again. There were still many questions, mostly where his commander during the battle went. Commander Char Nobly of the Etti IV loyalists disappeared after the battle, and was listed as one of the missing. C-3Px2 wondered where he was.

Black Gloves, black flight suit, black helmet, and black boots, it seemed to suggest that Imperial pilots have a thing for black.  Phantoms of the sky are TIE pilots.  Their screeching battle cry heard from miles away, bringing terror to all Rebel's that hear it.  So it be that Sion sits in his crash webbing, hands clutching the control yoke tightly.  His focus was only upon one thing, the central hanger doors.  The drop out of hyperspace was to be very soon.  Then he felt it, an iconic shift in velocity that could only mean one thing, they were there.

"This is control to Kaph Squadron, report status."

"Kaph Leader, all green."
"Kaph 2, ready."
"Kaph 3, good to go..."
The rest of the squadron fired off their positives until Kaph 12 was reached.

"Kaph Squadron and Shuttle Sickle, you are clear to launch," said Willtconq.

The blast doors retracted to reveal the infinite void called space.  Time to release the hounds...Sion flipped the final switches and hit the final buttons that brought the controls online.  Sion pushed forward on the thrust, heat waves appeared behind the Interceptor as it began its exodus from the Tiamut.  Twelve fighters shot out from under the bridge, Than Sion in the lead.  What a wonderful view for those within the control center.  The TIEs circled back to pick up the shuttle.

"This is the Tiamut, we just did a passive scan of the area.  All evidence shows that the enemy didn't hear our knocking.  We still have them blind.  The other forces will launch as soon as we hear word that the field is down, so don't say anything until the fat lady sings."

"I read you Tiamut," replied Kaph Leader.  "Approaching outer reaches of the hot zone."

From this distance, the asteroid belt still seemed like dust.  The systems' yellow star burned bright at the port of the Escort Carrier.  The dust quickly grew into massive bodies of rock, some miles long.  Such locations where graveyards for fighters and capital ships alike.  There was something else, things sparkled in the sunlight ahead of them.

"This is Kaph 2, I'm picking up mines on our sensors.  Derillium model, seems the NR ran into a stash and brought them here."

"Or they were here already," began Major Yale.  "Some sources suggest that this system was used by the Galactic Empire for mining until it was abandoned in the last five years due to NR expansion."

"It doesn't matter where they came from.  What does is that they're like stray puppies that follow you around.  Stray puppies with suicide bomber vests...How many layers away is our hole?"

"I'd say two, max three," replied the major.

"Ironically your shuttle, with all those guns, will be more effective than our fighters at intercepting the mines if they detect us," stated Sion.  He then turned his attention to his squadron.  "Here's the plan, Kaph.  After making it past the mine field, Kaph Flight 1 will fly ahead through the canyon.  We'll scout out any possible surprises the enemy may have left there.  Flight 2 will stick with the transport, making sure it doesn't get shot up by something that pops out of nowhere.  Flight 3 will sweep behind the rest off us, checking for anything that might try to follow our caravan."

"This is the Sickle, we will attempt to jam the mines sensors and proceed to destroy the ones in our path.  If that doesn't work, be prepared to shoot any thing tetrahedron in nature that moves..."  Good advice, we would have never thought of that....

Etan didn't realize how quickly this mission would move along. He was used to the speed of a fighter. He had forgotten that hyperdrive could bring you closer to the battle that much sooner.

Soon after his fifth meal , he was called to suit up and given a brief idea of what they, the Kaph, were to do. Meeting in the docking bay, Commander Than explained what was expected of each of them. They were to fly out together along with one Army transport and assess the situation from there. A basic plan had already been discussed between the Commanders and XO's, but, that was subject to change at any time. That was one reason Etan didn't care so much for meetings. The best layed plans by mice and men were subject to change at anytime. Etan would rather be given an objective that he could reach by himself or through the instantaneous commands of his superiors. There was no use spending hours planning and meeting when you knew those plans were subject to change at anytime. The objective was all that mattered.

Donning his flight suit, that by the way, was specially designed for him he made his way towards the hanger bay with helmet under arm. He looked impressive with his long flowing hair hanging out around his flight suit. If only some one could take a picture. He would use it on his next Imperial Identi card. Nevermind that now, there were more important things at hand.

Making his way to the hanger bay, Etan began to feel a sense of pride in the fact that the higher ups had chosen Kaph squadron for this mission. Ever since the default on the ESC squadron competition, which determined the sanctity of which squadron was elite, Etan had felt a sense of failure. Now was a time to rectify that. A time to show the VEN what Kaph squadron was made of.

Once inside the hanger bay, Etan did a visual check of his own fighter first. It looked none worse for the ware since he had last seen it a few hours before. Checking with the technicians, they gave it a clean bill of health.

"Your craft seems to be exceptionally tuned Master wookie Etan" suggested one of the technicians. Little did he know that Etan was a master technician himself and spent his idle time making his craft most accommodating to himself. If only he had his former Tie Advanced fighter. Then he would show everyone what flying was about. But, for now he had to make due with this Interceptor.

It was an efficient craft, to say the least, but just didn't have the leg room of the Advanced fighter. Oh well, he would make due.

Etan awaited Commander Than's orders, then the entire squadron all took off. Once in space, Than commanded second flight to gaurd the transport while they flew ahead and third flight gaurded the flanks.

FL Krius took over from there. " Okay second flight. I wanna see eyes wide open and weapons ready. Kaph five and six will take one side while Kaph seven and eight take the other. And we all float around this transport. No ememy fighters are gonna take this transport out while I'm still flying."

Etan commed his buddy Kiss, Kaph eight " You heard him let's do defensive manuveur four. Just like in flight school." That was where one fighter would fly lead, while the second flew all around them. " Yeah but, you forget I failed flight school the first time, Etan." Kaph eight replied." That's okay you take the lead Kiss, I'll do the rest." With that they continued on thier mission.

"This is the Shuttle Sickle to Kaph Leader, activating the jammers.  Using a low range frequency to avoid tipping off our position."

"Wouldn't, I don't know, blowing up mines do the exact same thing?" stated more than asked Krius."

"In many cases yes, but the location in question is an asteroid field.  Thus losses are expected.  I don't your tone either."

"I don't...," began Krius before being cut off by Than.

"Kaph 5, shut up before you dig yourself in a hole.  I apologize for my flight leader's rudeness."

"Never mind that now, let's focus on the task at hand," said Yale in a very annoyed tone.  "Everybody keep your eyes open and your mouths shut unless it's something actually important."

So everything went silent as they flew into the mine field.  The motionless, dark tetrahedrons were an omen of death.

"This is the shuttle Sickle, going to take out the first target.  Extending cannons, Locking on, 1, 2, 3, fire first burst."  Green bolts shot forth from the Sentinel Class shuttle's bow toward the nearest mine.  They punctured through the mine's shell, turning it into a distant grenade.  "Attack successful, moving onto the next target."  Then, with out warning, one of the mines lit up.  Its four prongs extended.  "Mine activated, taking evasive actions!"  Sion was quicker, swinging his fighter around and blasting the homing mine to bits.

"Good thing we don't have to pass through the whole field," began Kaph Leader.  "It seems some of them have an immunity to your jamming."

"Yeah, that's what you get for using a lower powered frequency.  I'd risk boosting it if we had much further to goes, but we...another one is arming!"  The shuttle turned to port and blasted the offending mine to pieces.  "Look out Kaph Leader..."  A mine came flying fast from the void toward Than's Interceptor.  It was destroyed before it reached its effective range.

"This is Kaph Leader; I'm fine thanks to my XO."  Seems we still have some chemistry left after not being wingman for so long.  "Are you going actually take any out ahead of time, Major?"

A small asteroid smacked Than's shield, reminding him of the other danger ahead.

"No need, we're to the rock with the canyon."

"Already?  It's right on the edge?"

"yeah, Kaph Leader, that's another reason its such a nice option."

"Ok, before we split up I would like to say something to my pilots.  Flight leaders, keep your pilots together in order to prevent anybody getting lost in the asteroid belt.  Most of you were part of the rescue mission of the Doashim so this is old news.  Yet I would like to remind you all to work together because you'll need it to survive.  It shouldn't be as bad as we get deeper into the hot zone, they probably have repulsor fields stabilizing the section near the research station.  That is all, head for your designated defense positions.  Flights will be mostly on their own until we reach the end of the canyon.  Good luck men."  Sion turned his attention to his specific flight.  "Ok guys, keep your eyes open for anything suspicious.  We're in the most danger for getting hit by any rigs the NR may have set up here, so basically if it looks funny shoot it..."

Before the Jump to Hyperspace

Than kept on looking at his watch every ten seconds as he stood in hanger C of the Tiamut.  Everybody had made it ahead of time, with one exception.  Where are you Scout?  We need to get out of here ASAP but you're not here.

"There's no use waiting for him," said a familiar voice.  Sion turned around to see Will who didn't seem like he had been sleeping not too long ago.  "I had a reason that I wasn't going to let him back into the squadron again when Kaph was still under my command.  Scout's a loose cannon, face it Than, he's not coming."

"Some how I already knew that, I just didn't want to admit it to myself," replied Kaph Leader.  "I guess you need to get back to the bridge now so we can make the jump, Will."

"What, no sir any more?" said will with mock disgust.

"I guess I fell out of practice..."

Kaph 3 (Present)

"Ok, Flight one," began the disembodied voice of Than as dark rock flashed by each edge of the view port.  "Keep in a loose formation through out our time in the canyon behind me, that way damage done by any 'presents' the NR may have left us will be kept at a minimum.  If you see anything even remotely suspicious, report it and engage if possible.  Be prepared for anything to jump out at any second."

Running toward trouble first, Than, you shouldn't fell so responsible for your men's lives.  We've all been doing this for a long time now, if something happens to one of us it will be our own faults.  But like all leaders with good intentions, no amount of logic will tell you otherwise.

SMACK!

Skylla would have jumped out of her seat if it were not for the crash webbings holding her down.  The shock wave had more than just shook her TIE a little.

"The bastards," cursed Sion.  "They got this canyon wired with proximity mines!  Barely caught it in time to  blow it.  I guess they do have this thing rigged.  I'll message the rest of the convoy.  Keep your eyes pealed for the next surprise."

Skylla noticed an unnaturally cylindrical, black shape on the starboard wall ahead.  She fired a quad burst at the location which triggered the expected result.  A sonic wave shot out harmlessly from the location.  There was another explosion, but no shots had been fired before it.  Than's fighter went out of control!

"Ah shit, stabilize damn it!..." Sion continued the profanity for another second or so as Skylla watched the situation from behind.  Her knuckles hurt, she was gripping the control yoke too tightly.  Then as quick as Kaph Leader's TIE had went out of control it went stable.  "I'm alright now.  Shit, that blast brought my shields down to 50 percent!  Switching power out of weapons in order to quicken the recharge process."

"This is Kaph 2, you should let someone else take lead until your shields recover."

"No, I'm fine, I can do it.  I just need to be more observant, that's all."

"Kaph 1, don't be a fool!  You can't keep on taking all the responsibility for everything, transfer some of the load over to us..."

(OCC:  I didn't want to double post, but it just seemed necessary to keep things moving along at this point.  Well, C3, we're going to need some more people for your flight.  Aristoc resigned today and it was a bad idea to trust that Scout was going to stick around in the first place.  When you get back, have something happen to Aristoc.  The plan is that the enemy is going to figure out we're in the canyon and try to take us from behind with some fighters (your flight's responsibility.)

An alarm howled through the cockpit of Kaph Twelve, "Sir, I got a missile lock on me!' Jammer yelled over Comm. The flight was passing through a canyon when that hit a section of proximity mines. "Damn, that last blast must have alerted them to our location" C-3PX2 responded. "Kaph Lead, this is Kaph Nine, we got an incoming missile towards Twelve, we are engaging. He said to Than Sion over Comm. "Copy that, Flight Three go Weapons Free. For the rest, keep in formation." Than said to the squadron. "Twelve, I show nothing on radar, you sure you got a hostile?" C-3PX2 said to a nervous pilot,"I am not sure. There is a lock but I cannot find the missile." Jammer Responded. "Flight Immleman, then reform into Arrowhead formation." C-3PX2 said to his flight. The lock tone ended, but there was still no missile. They figured it had to be a pilot that was using a missile lock to track their location, it was a clever tactic. "Flight, we got at least one of them out their, Weapons free, Report any sightings ASAP." They began to use their radars to give a full search but found nothing. "Tiamut, Kaph Nine. Request Picture." He was asking the Tiamut for a picture, or the position of the nearest threat aircraft. "Kaph Nine, Tiamut. Picture Fuzzy, Cannot Get a clear look." Tiamut was unable to get a clean look at the area due to the asteroid field in their way. "This is Ten; I think I have got one." Aristoc reported. "Copy, Ten. Flight Break up into elements and Go spread." He said to the squad over comm. The Third flight of Kaph Squadron was ready to draw first blood.
