  Phoenix Wing - Cloaked Reunion

After a short stint on Abrae, Trevor found himself roaming the halls of the Atrus once again. He had been summoned to Shazam's office to be informed about the next mission for Nazgul, as well as a few other things that were going to go on for the squadron. Shazam's office was not terribly difficult to find for those who had been there before, but for someone new to the Atrus would easily get lost in the kilometers of hallways, all painted pretty much the same and crowded with people. He found the door he was looking for, but before he could knock it slid open and he stepped inside.

"You scare me with that, each time." Trevor laughed as his slid down into a chair across from Shazam's desk, next to a chair occupied by a man he recognized as Than Sion, Kaph's SC since Will had had to take leave.

"Next time I'll let you knock instead of opening the door remotely when the little cameras tell me you've shown up." Shazam replied, reaching across his desk to shake Trevor's hand. He then reclined in his chair and looked at the two pilots across from him before continuing. "I believe you two know each other?"

Trevor and Than exchanged glances before Than replied. "Somewhat. We've hung out a little in the mess hall some days, but never flown together before."

"Well, there was that one Sim mission we did, but that was short lived." Trevor corrected him, remember a few weeks back when he had met a few Kaph pilots training in the simulator room and asked to join in. He joined late into their mission and only got about 2 minutes of flying time, much to his disappointment.

"Well, then I suppose that introductions would just keep us here longer. If you two know each other, we can move on to the main part of what I brought you here for. As you know, Trevor, Nazgul is lacking in pilots and sending you on a mission without higher numbers could be suicidal. That is where Kaph will come in for your newest assignment. Kaph will be lending some pilots to Nazgul." Shazam explained, Than nodding as he did. He must have had it explained to him before I showed up. Trevor thought to himself as he listened.

"So what is our mission going to be exactly." Trevor asked, scanning Shazam's desk for a folder that might contain the mission details, but seeing none.

"Well, I believe you remember Nazgul's encounter with Tachurus Squadron a short while ago?" Shazam asked Trevor, who visibly tensed at the sound of the Y-wing Squadron's name. Trevor simply nodded and Shazam continued. "Well, we found information on Abrae the links them to the attack on the testing facilities there. We also found information that led us to Dastoria, but that side of the spectrum is pretty vague. So for now we're going to focus on Tachurus.

"Having dug into your past a little bit, we found out that you had flown with them in somewhat of a 'sister squadron' for a little over a year. This makes you the prime candidate to lead an infiltration unit into their midst and dig up some information about who hired them to try to capture our shuttles above Dastoria. This is where Kaph gets involved. Because you are lacking in the amount of pilots in your squadron, part of Kaph will be joining you on the mission to give you a full squadron of 15, as well as a few pilots from various other squadrons.

"You will be equipped with Y-wings and we'll do our best to make everything look as close as possible to what it should look like, based on your memory of everything. Any questions?" Shazam finished, folding his hands and then placing them on his desk as he looked across at Trevor.

"I'll need a pilot from another squadron by special request. Aside from me, he's the only remaining member of the Hussars and having him would be a great asset." Trevor said, folding his arms neatly across his chest and accepting the fate that he would have to face his past once more. He thought he had left behind the Hussars and Tachurus a while ago, and deep down was feeling nostalgic about being able to fly a Y-wing again, but the rest of him knew that if there was a slip in their cover, they'd be vaporized in less time than it takes for a bomb to go off.

"Whatever you need. Normally we don't just hand out this kind of freedom, but you'll be given certain liberties when it comes to those who you'll have under you for this. On the other hand, Than will be acting as your XO for this mission. Whether you want something different for superficial purposes, that's fine. But he'll be giving orders when it comes to the Imperial side of things." Shazam explain, and looked back and forth between Trevor and Than. The two pilots nodded.

"All I need is a guy who goes by the callsign 'Reaper'. I don't remember what squadron he was in, but we found him on Nar Shaddaa right when I was first plopped into Nazgul. It should be easy enough to find him though, just check the hanger bays for a black Y-wing with a skull painted on it." Trevor explained. "Aside from that, I think everything I need should be there. The Y-wings might need a power boost and a bit more armament, but that's it."

"Excellent, we can get that done. I suggest you and Than go prepare for the briefing and get your pilots ready. I'll be giving the briefing this time around, in exactly&" Shazam paused to check his timepiece. "In exactly one hour and eight minutes. Briefing room C. That's all. Dismissed." Shazam said, raising from his chair as he did so and snapping a quick salute. Trevor and Than returned the salute and Trevor followed Than out the door of the office.

"So you'll be working with some non-elite pilots. How do you think that'll go?" Trevor asked in a joking tone, remembering the most recent ESC where Nazgul lost to Kaph. It was something the Kaph pilots probably wouldn't let the Nazgulians live down until they lost the title.

"I think that things will go fine. I know that Nazgul is on par with Kaph, but we'll see how things go among the other pilots. Should we gather them to meet anywhere before the briefing?" Than asked as the two came to an intersection in the hall, one way leading to the Kaph rec-room and the other leading to Nazgul's rec-room.

"Sure. I'll bring my boys to Kaph and we'll get everyone introduced. See you in a few minutes." Trevor said with a nod, before turning and beginning down the hall as Than turned the other way. It took Trevor 30 second to make his way into the rec-room and get the attention of all the pilots there.

"Alright boys, we're going out for some stuff soon, but it's a co-op with Kaph. We're going to meet up with them in their rec-room and get introduced, before we head to the briefing together. Do some friendly bonding over a game of pool and some drinks." Trevor said to the small crowd of pilots who were in the room. A few gave him odd looks but no one objected and the group began making their way down the hall to Kaph's rec-room.

OOC: Alright, it's not the best opening, but it'll do and it leaves it open ended for people once we get going. Toks, you'll be written in during the briefing, don't worry, till then you just have to keep up with the posts. Than is going to post next, so NO ONE is going to post after this until Than has given it the ok. Aside from this, start thinking about the difficulties your character is going to face in this story, as well as using your proficiencies. You'll be flying Y-wings, not TIEs. Incorporate that into your writing. Kaph is an elite group flying with a non-elite group. Maybe there will be a little bit of ego there that gets in the way of smooth flying. Let's see some good conflict between the pilots as well as keeping the storyline rolling. Let's go at 'er hard people.

One week and three days earlier

It was a standard fighter bay aboard the mSSD Atrus.  The black deck had a mirror finish that one could see their reflection in if it wasn't a section that was glared by the flood lights jutting out of the ceiling.  Polished Interceptors hung under the TIE racks, combat ready on a moment's notice.  Like most things Imperial, the walls were all but bare durasteel, having no decoration what so ever.  Located near the bow wall was the tech pit, which was empty at the moment for today was a break in the usual routine.

Today there was a raised platform positioned before the magnetic seal.  In front of the platform stood the pilot that made up Phoenix wing, which were to the right, and the technicians and mechanics that supported the three squadrons to the left.  An aisle divided the two groups.  Upon the platform were two men.  Both were clad in black Imperial uniforms, though one lacked the red over blue rank plaque that the other bore on his chest.  The man just mentioned was before a podium and was called 2nd Lieutenant Willtconq.  Than Sion did not understand why the other was him.  Obviously there was a ceremony planned for this day, but only the officers in the room really know what was up.  Everybody else only knew that it involved the Elite Kaph Squadron and Chief Warrant Officer Than Sion.

Will began to speak.  "I am happy that all of you could be here today for today is a bitter, sweet day for me."  Willtconq paused for a second as though dealing with swirling emotions within him.

"As many of you know, I was thrown into the position of Squadron Commander after Denthor stepped down from the position and retired.  Before then I was rapidly promoted in both rank and position.  In fact, I feel it may have been too quick for it sometimes seems that I was never given the chance to catch my breath."  He paused once again with a misty look about his eyes.

"Kaph Squadron had basically been gutted by the war with the NR when I was given the job to run it.  I had to start from scratch except for a couple of pilots which had little experience between them.  Chief Warrant Officer Sion was one of those pilots.  He is the only pilot left that has been with me since the beginning of my Squadron Commander career.  This career had its occasional high points, Kaph did gain elite status under me after all, but for the most part I feel as though it has been lacking, as though I've not fulfilled it to a level worthy of the position."  He paused for a third time; his face almost seemed sad and determined at the same time.

"There was another pilot that's career was similar to mine.  His did not hit the ground running like me, though like a Juggernaut, his started slow but picked up pace at a rate that nothing could slow down.  He went from Flight Leader to Executive Officer with not much time in between.  He showed that he was loyal, determined, intelligent, honorable, and strong in valor, stamina, and will.  All these traits are important in a Squadron Commander, but especially the last one."  Kaph 1 paused one last time, his eyes betrayed his emotions.  He was sad, sad in the same way has one that tries his hardest but fails to meet the mark.

"I am stepping down as the Commander of Kaph Squadron," revealed the Veteran of many dog fights and capital ship runs.  "Chief Warrant Officer Than Sion, as of now you are the acting Commander of the Elite Kaph Squadron.  Will the members of Kaph Squadron please stand at attention."

Willtconq turned to face Sion, bringing his right arm up in a broken salute.  The members of Kaph and Sion followed suit.  There was Strangler, a newer member of Kaph who was quick with both a joke and a fighter.  Next to him was Hellkite, a pretty good pilot but with a dark past.  There was also, Etan.  An odd specimen for an Imperial Pilot considering that he was a Wookie.  He was someone you would want on your side that wasn't afraid to shove his weight around.  The Zabrak Cyleaf was also there.  He was usually quiet, but an excellent friend if you got to know him.  To the Zabrak's left was Dredj.  He was dedicated to those above him but sometimes could get out of control.  He also seemed to be hiding something about his nature.  Last, but far from least, was Skylla.  The tough woman that Than fell in love with.  If only they weren't bond to the VEN.

Will finished his salute.  The pilots in Kaph followed example.  Will was not yet done, though.  "I do not only step down from the SC position but, for now, all command positions.  I've served in this squadron for a long time.  I love Kaph and do not wish to part with it.  I will remain in the squadron as a Flight Member."  He turned to Sion one more time.  "Good luck, Commander Than Sion."

"Thank you, sir," replied Sion.

"At last Sion, it is time for your habit of calling me sir to end.  You are sir now," stated Willtconq.  He then faced the crowd.  "Will Commander Shazam now come up upon the platform."

A man in a grey uniform exited the crowd.  Upon the rank plaque on his chest were six tiles in three groups of red over blue.  The groups were spaced apart on either side of the central column.  Will stepped away from the podium as Shazam climbed the platform.  Tucked under his right arm was a flat, black box with a small, gold hinge at one end.

"Well folks," began Shaz with his usual, subtle personality.  "We're not done yet.  It always used to be the tradition that Squadron Commanders were always officers.  In the near past that hasn't been reasonable because of the need for field promotions to the position.  Circumstances now allow for us to continue that tradition.  Chief Warrant Officer Than Sion, you are here by commissioned to Ensign."

He then opened the box.  Inside was a rank plaque like Willtconq's and two rank cylinders (the difference is that Will only has one rank cylinder).  Shazam proceeded to pin the plaque to Sion's chest and put the cylinders in their respected pockets.

"Congratulations, Ensign," voiced the Commander.

Than Sion brought his hand up in a salute, Shazam copied, everybody else in the fighter bay followed suit.

"I have a felling that our new officer has a few words to say after all this commotion," suggested Shazam.  He stepped down from the platform.

Will also did so.  He joined the other Kaph pilots.

Than was alone on the platform now.  Every eye was now on him, he had their undivided attention.  The whole situation was so raw in his head that it almost seemed like a different person who was moving over to the podium.  Though none of his emotions had completely gathered, part of his mind had.

"This has been brought upon me quite unexpected, so I don't have much to say.  I will say that I will not let you all down," promised Sion.  "I will work my very hardest to bring Kaph back to its glory days.  To do that there will be changes, but changes for the better.  I thank you all for having faith in me and I hope it will not be in vain.  Glory to the Vast Empire and glory to the Navy."

He dropped from the platform, leaving it completely abandoned.  Already some of those emotions were taking shape, not all of them were positive...

(OCC:  The point of those two pages was to explain the transition of power in Kaph.  I feel that too many times we have had big changes like these and they haven't really been explained in the story line.  In real life this transition was also emotional for me.  I came to respect Will over the last year and nine months.  He had been there for me throughout my career in the Vast Empire.  With out him and Demonic, I would have quit a long time ago for what is obvious reasons to some of you.  His stepping down has left me in somewhat uncharted territory for he has always been above me before now.  With that said, you are all welcome to start posting now).

Enzadi, the Strangler, smiled at the meeting of Kaph Squadron went on. Yet, his smile embraced what Will, the Squadron Commander he didn't really know. Bittersweet were his words. "Yes, that's the word," Enzadi thought when Will had said it. The sweet, tainted by bitter tainted by sweet.

After Mortain, Enzadi took his abode on his station, the Atrus, where he had retired to his bunk. He thought about what he had done, all the life that had been lost by a well-placed missile. He meditated in his sleep, in his bunk. His thoughts turned over in over as his mind manipulated them. They revolved, and mutated into a single gelling question: Why? Why did he join? Why did he, unthinkingly, sink the missile into the port, causing the deaths of many. His answer came from someone else, another one of the dead spoke with him: Uma, mother. The answer was, apparently, because it had been the right thing to do. He had killed them all because to give life to the Vast Empire. And so he had.

Now, Than Sion, his wingman, whom he owed his life to yet payed back the debt, was the Squadron Commander. Than deserved, said his mind. And he did. He was dutiful, intelligent, loyal. He was a Squadron Commander, even before Will had stepped down. Yet, that isn't true he had told himself. Than's a leader. So is Will. So is Shazam, and the Zabrak Flight Leader. That's what they are. Leaders are leaders. They shouldn't be divided into FLs and SCs or Wing Commanders. They're leaders.

The Strangler turned his thoughts over to the dead, once more. Echo Leader, the father figure who took him into his first battle, had died saving his wingman. His mother. "No one will die," the Strangler had uttered softly. "No one, so long as I live." But then, the meeting had ended.

He went to offer his congratulations to Than. "Than!" he had cried after the meeting adjourned, doing a double take immediately after. Slightly quieter, he had said "Um, I mean, Sir. Good job!" He was met with thanks. He liked Than. And, from what he could tell, Than liked him. He was a bit uptight, but only on the ground. In the air and space, he was like a fish in water. They bantered and joked in flight, yet less so on the ground. Oh well, they made a good team. In the eyes of the Vast Empire, that was all that mattered.

The meeting was now over a week ago. A new mission had been announced. Kaph pilots, under Nazgul. He chuckled as he rolled out of his bunk. "Wonder how that'll go down, us under the un-Elite. Bet some people won't like it." He chuckled a bit, coughing as he suited into uniform. "Maybe I should try to get a Nazgul guy," Enzadi said out loud as he made his appearance acceptable. He stopped, looking at himself in a mirror. "Nah!" he said sarcastically, overexentuating himself. He would really like to get to know someone who wasn't under Than. He had heard of Trevor Evenson, SC of Nazgul, but had never met the man.

He stumbled out of quarters, a bit ruffled. Enzadi liked sleep, and was very fond of such an activity, even though it was really inactivity. He stumbled through the gray, unadorned halls of the mSSD Atrus, the memorial Super Star Destroyer that the Navy called flagship, and home, heading to what needed to be heard: a briefing.

*A few days previous*

Cyleaf sat in his bunk for a quick breather, though things had calmed down considerably, the Zabrak still kept himself busy either in the gym or on the flight deck looking over his fighter. Today the normal hum drum routine would be shattered as his comlink beeped. Retrieving the device from his belt and holding it in front of him he pressed the button.

"This is Cyleaf, go ahead."

The voice over the other end was extremely familiar, they had gotten close before and more so after Cyleaf had gone to the brig. Things had changed slightly as the roster kept getting shuffled with new pilots or departing ones and he had become Will's wingman for the second time in his career. Little did he know that the shuffle was about to happen again.

"Cy, I need you to come to my office pronto."

"Yes Sir! I am on my way."

Quickly the Zabrak departed his room and made for Than's office. Lucky for him they kept squadrons in a general area and it wasn't far away. This kept Cy from getting lost as it could take years for him to fully explore the Atrus.

Approaching the door it hissed open automatically, that was thanks to their new SC's open door policy. Walking inside the Zabrak snapped a salute at the man to his left, Willtconq stood and saluted back somewhat surprised at him being his choice instead of Than behind the desk.

"Greetings Sir!"

Will dropped his salute and Cyleaf repeated the procedure with Than. Though Than was the Squadron Commander Will had more time in grade making him the superior ranking officer, that was why he was saluted first.

"Reporting as ordered Sir!"

"Come have a seat, we have some things to discuss."

Than motioned towards a chair and Cyleaf walked over and sat down. As the door shut behind them he heard the lock engage.

"As you know Kaph is constantly going through reconstruction with new pilots being assimilated and me becoming the new Commander. This leaves me some open spots in my command structure. I will not be filling the XO position for awhile but I do have an open Flight Leader spot, my old one to be exact. Would you be interested?"

Before he could even reply Will quickly interjected.

"This comes with one stipulation. I will be your wingman, this will serve as two things. One is to make sure you are doing your job correctly, and the other is to monitor your overall performance. As the senior member of this squadron besides us you could be a big part of its future."

Standing up quickly he looked his friend in the eyes and said,

"I accept Sir!"

"Good, you are free to go."

Cyleaf saluted both gentleman again and left the room heading back to his quarters. This was going to take up more of his extra free time and a welcome change.

*Present*

Cyleaf lay on the bench sweat staining his white t-shirt as his muscles bulged from the strain of the weights. Pushing up with all of his might it slowly began to raise, veins popped out of his forehead and arms. Finally from what seemed like forever he got the wights fully up and placed them on the supports.

Sitting up and wiping his forehead Cy looked around the rec room. Etan was behind him spotting his lifting with his big Wookie strength while the rest were off doing their own thing. Turning to the hulking figure behind him he spoke,

"Remember big guy that I am only a Zabrak not a Wookie myself so keep that as my maximum. Geesh if I could lift a tree like you it'd be different."

Chuckling Cy stood up and began stretching his arms. Ever since his time in the brig he had developed an intense workout schedule and kept at it. His muscles were beginning to get larger instead of more tone, it would truly frighten him to gain the weight that pilots sometimes did from only sitting in a cockpit.

Than Sion entered the rec room.  Immediately the members of Kaph stopped what they were doing and stood at attention.

"At ease, men," replied the Commander to his pilots' actions.  Will has trained them well for me.  "I just got word that we will be doing a mission that will have us working together pretty tight with Nazgul."  Enough of the truth for now.  I might as well leave the big shocker for the briefing.  "That considered, Trevor is bringing the Nazgul boys over here.  So play nice."

"Don't worry Than, we'll not be too rough with them.  Though if any of them leave crying it wasn't us," jested Strangler.  This brought chuckles from Kaph.

He took a glance at what was in the room.  Besides maybe the senior officers, they had the newest and most expensive weight equipment.  They also had a state of the art, holo gaming system.  Nazgul isn't going to be happy when they see what we get, on the other hand there are perks to being the Elite Squadron.  All the new fancy stuff made the relic pinball table stick out like a sore thumb.  It had been there since before the days of a commander that went by the call sign Bear.  It probably had been there since the ship was constructed.  Sion suddenly made the realization that Skylla was not in the room.

"Has anybody seen Skylla?" asked Kaph 1.

"Last I saw her she was in the mess hall," replied Dredj.  "Though that was a half an hour ago."

"I'm going to look there first then.  Behave yourselves with our company until I come back."

Kaph 9

"It is simple I tell you," said Skylla to a group of Storm Troopers off duty at a table in one of the many enlisted mess halls.  "All you need is a hand grenade, some twist ties, and a stick.  You sharpen the stick so that it has two barbs and use the ties to attach it to the grenade.  Then you take your POW, stick it in them, pull the pin, and watch them run around trying to remove the device.  Instant entertainment!"

The storm troopers roared with laughter at the dark thought of such an act.

"Where does a pretty little thing like you think up something like that?" asked one of the Storm Troopers.

"I've done my share of questionable things before joining the Navy," replied Skylla with a smirk.

"I bet you have," remarked the trooper maliciously.  "How about you come with me and do more activities of such nature?"

"Sorry, but I'll have to pass.  Besides, I'm already taken."

"You mean by that Commander of Baph or Yaph, or whatever the name of that squadron is?  What would you want with a skinny little man like him?  I think I know your problem, you've forgotten what it is like to be with a real man.  I guess I'll have to refresh..."

He was on the floor before he could finish his comment.  There was a big red mark on his face that was beginning to swell.

"Nobody makes fun of my man!" declared Skylla.  Her tone changed when she noticed that Sion was standing twenty feet away, wide eyed.  "Oh, hey Than."

"Hello Skylla...We're having a get together with Nazgul and I thought you should be there."

"I'll come back with you then...unless one of these guys wants to defend their friend's honor?"

"Ah, I don't think we have any problems...ah he was asking for it...ah I think we have to go," said one of the soldiers before they all scrambled out of the mess hall, victim in the lead...

One Day Earlier

Jaden could smell the dust as the door hissed open.  He stepped into the room and took a big breath as the door slid shut behind him.  The bags found their way to the ground; and Jaden to a familiar place.  His chair.

It had been nearly half of a year since he had been in this room.  The office still smelled of burnt coffee beans and hard work...paper work.  Memories came flashing back quicker than he thought they would, bringing his head down in dissapointment.

Why did I leave?

The thought kept going through his head whilst he wiped the dust from the desk and picked up his old coffee cup.  Remainders of his last drank cup still remained within the beverage container.  Many things had changed since he had left, but this office was the one place that he could find tranquility.

Jaden had gone on a bit of a vacation.  It turned out to be more than he could swallow, forcing him to come back to his old life and pick up his old ways.  Feelings of being left out and betrayed were now all but bad memories.  He now had his mind set on one thing.  Being back with old friends.

Jaden's com link began to beep as he turned the nearby terminal on and waited for it to power up and come to a personel log in screen.  He quickly grabbed at it and qued the message accept button.

"Jaden here"

There was a bit of an awkward silence.

"This is Shaz..."

Jaden felt his heart drop.

"Man...its been too long," said Jaden, a smile coming across his face as a couple of good memories started to float back.

"Yes...It has.  And, I guess I'm going to have to be be bearer of bad news.  Your getting thrown back into Nazgul Squadron under Trevor's command," said Shazam, "I'm saying this as bad news because you aren't going to be put in a command position.  You and I both know why"

Jaden instantly remembered the reason for the words Shazam had just stated.

"I know that I abused my privelages as Squadron Commander and as XO of Nazgul, but I promise to do my best.  Even as a Flight member, I'm going to give it all in hopes that I will one day earn enough respect to command a league of my own," said Jaden

"Alright, well, a little more news for you here.  We are going to jump you right into a mission.  We've got a bit of a wing mission coming our way.  Kaph and Nazgul are going to consolidate for the sole reason that Nazgul is a bit low on pilots right now, and so is Kaph.  Now lets just hope that you boys can get along," said Shazam

"Oh...you know me," said Jaden

"Alright.  The meeting is tomorrow.  I'm heading off myself.  Its getting late and I'm sure you'll want to get some sleep before the big meeting," said Shazam

"Sure will.  Nice seeing you again," said Jaden

"Nice seein you too bud.  Stick around this time," said Shazam

Jaden walked into the mess hall.  Familiar faces looked towards him, but he decided to not make eye contact and to head straight for the flat bread and stim tea.  The way the cook made it was incredible.  Jaden was suprised that he was still around.

After grabbing his things, Jaden made his way towards the table where Trevor was sitting.  Along with a couple of other members of Nazgul, Jaden could see that there were new faces.  He quickly sat down and gave Trevor a bit of a glance.

"Nice to see your joining us," said Trevor, "Its been too long," he said, extending a handshake.

Jaden quickly took the shake and looked around at the others.

"Tomas, good to see your still here.  Darius, Casca....and who is this?" said Jaden

"I'm Sol, a little more than a new recruit," said Sol, extending a hand.

Jaden hesitated a bit, but then took the hand in firm grip.

"Good to see new blood around here," said Jaden, "But wait...that means there are only six pilots in Nazgul?

"Right," said Trevor, "Things have been a bit shakey lately.  We've lost a lot of people from both squadrons in out last couple of missions."

A frown came to Jaden's face at the thought of Jen or someone else going down.

"Wow....we must have taken a pretty hard hit," said Jaden, "This is the squadron at a lesser point than I have seen it in a long time"

"Well, don't be too quick before you think to shoot.  We have a lot of talent here, and a lot of experience.  I'm sure we should be able to hold our own.  Against Anyone."

Jaden could sense the anger and frustration in Trevors voice.  He knew that Trevor was just as angry as he was about Kaph taking Elite status last ESC.

"So...whats new quick Kaph?  I here Than is running things now," said Jaden

"They've got a couple of more members than we do, but they seem to be checking into who's still in the running or not.  Will is still around as a pilot, just to make sure things run smoothly before he leaves, and as for Than, I think he's doing great with what he has right now," said Trevor

Jaden shook his head up and down, "Thats good to see that they still have their heads on their shoulders"

Trevor took another bite of his food and began to clean things up.

"The meeting is in 15 minutes.  I'll see you there," said Trevor, "Oh, and just to let you know.  Tomas is your wingman"

A smile came to Jaden's face.  He knew that Tomas had talent and that they would work well together.

Jaden stepped up, took his things to the tray dump area, and headed out of the mess hall to his office to get cleaned up a bit before the meeting.  He was feeling good, really good.  It had been too long since he had been around, and things were looking up.

Trevor had decided to let the group stop off for breakfast at the mess hall before taking them to Kaph's rec-room, seeing as it was quite early in the morning yet. Jaden had met up with them in the mess hall, and Trevor was beginning to wonder what all old friends he'd pick up through the course of the day. Rumors had been flying around that Toks might be returning, but if she was she was keeping it a secret from him. probably wants to surprise me. Trevor thought to himself as he walked along the corridor that led from the mess hall to rec area. He turned a final corner and approached the open door to Kaph's room, and entered without knocking.

One or two of the pilots in the room looked up at him, but for the most part he was ignored by the occupants. Only after Nazgul squadron grouped behind him did he get a second glance cast his way. A pilot that Trevor didn't recognize wandered over to them and gave Trevor a quick salute.

"We were told you'd be on your way. Than just stepped out for a moment to retrieve one of our other members. You're Lieutenant Evenson?" The man asked without introducing himself.

"I sure hope so. If I'm not, someone is playing a cruel trick on the both of us." Trevor replied with a smirk. He returned the man's salute and stuck his hand out to the other man, who shook it quickly. "And you might be&"

"Enzadi. Most people seem to call me Strangler though. Nickname I suppose." He replied as he released Trevor's hand. They get odder and odder when it comes to names. I sure as hell hope he can fly though. Was the thought that crossed Trevor's mind as he returned his hand to his pocket.

"Awesome. Mind if we lounge around until Than shows up? I think for the most part we're just going to be getting to know each other and then make our way to the briefing later." Trevor stated more then asked, and nodded to his pilots. Strangler nodded his head and shrugged, and then Nazgul spread out into the room. A few people looked and admired the object that they didn't get in their room; a few others began to chat with the Kaph pilots about all sorts of things.

Trevor flopped himself down on an empty couch and put his feet up on a small table in front of the couch. He found himself frustrated and relaxed at the same time. His Squadron appeared to be dwindling, and although he felt that the pilots he had under his command were the best in the Navy, he wouldn't be able to accurately compare them to those of Kaph until they began this mission. Trevor knew for sure that Jaden could fly like a devil, and that Tomas wasn't far off. Darius was crazier than an enraged Wookie, and five times as dangerous. Most of the other pilots were moderately new to him, and he had not been able to fully judge them yet. He figured from their performances above Abrae that they would be moderately good pilots.

He looked up and noticed a younger man standing at the door, a piece of paper in his hand and a mildly confused look on his face. He knocked on the doorframe and stepped cautiously into the room, looking from face to face before he focused on Trevor's. Trevor caught the subtle hint and stood from the couch to approach the man.

"What can I do for you?" Trevor asked when he was about seven feet away, and stopped when he was within arm's reach of the man. The pilot held out the piece of paper and let Trevor take a look at it before he saluted and spoke.

"I've been assigned to Nazgul Squadron, under your command. I'm correct in guessing you're Lieutenant Evenson?" The man asked as Trevor returned the salute before re-reading the paper.

"Second time someone's asked me that today my friend, and it's the second time they'd be correct." He mumbled with his eyes still towards the paper. "Come in, take a seat Mr. Skar. We're just mingling with Kaph, but I might as well get to know you." Trevor said over his shoulder as he turned and waved a hand towards the couch before starting off and flopping down on it once more. Skar followed him and took a seat next to him, watching Trevor as if trying to read him. Trevor liked to take pride in the fact that he appeared a bit different then he seemed. The outside seemed sort of rugged and harsh, and to an extent it was true. But the real him was quiet and cared about those he worked with, an unselfish man who was laid back and calm, usually slow to anger. He questioned orders at times, but only when an order seemed to go beyond the restrictions of his morals, something that had made him of interest to Shazam when Shaz was still piloting.

"It says here that you're fresh from the academy. You any bit skilled in the fighters?" Trevor asked, tapping the sheet with the back of his hand as he read it for the third time.

"Well, I did incredibly well at the academy. I can't really say whether I was good or not at the flying part though, judging myself might make me think I'm better than I really am." Skar replied thoughtfully and quietly, keeping his voice just loud enough to be heard over the group of people in the room.

"Makes sense, wise answer. Well, we're going to have a day or two of extra training for you, you fell in with us just as we're going to start a mission. Our briefing is in about 45 minutes though, you'll find things out then." Trevor told him, folding the piece of paper up and putting it into his pants pocket. He was silent for a moment, as if thinking up his next question. It was his turn to try and read Skar now, but he had about as little luck. He saw a young boy who might have jumped in over his head. By his choice of words earlier, he was obviously an intellectual, and he certainly looked like he could fit the physical description of a pilot if given a few more years to develop. Aside from this, Trevor couldn't really get much out of the boy's looks or words, but knew things would come after a while. "Can you play pool?"

"Pardon me?" Skar replied, a mildly confused look returning to his face.

"I said, can you play pool?" Trevor asked again, standing and motioning to a pool table off to the side of the room that was not being used. It was similar to the one Nazgul had, except it was larger and much more elegant.

"Well, I've never really played before, but it can't be too hard. It's a game based off of angles, isn't it?" Skar asked, picking up on the game's minor mathematical basics. It was true that it was a game of angles and directions, and if one could figure these out they would make an excellent basic player. However, it was the little tricks and quirks that one could perform with the ball that made them truly good.

"Yeah, basically. I'll give you a go if you want." Trevor said, tossing a pool cue to Skar who almost caught it but dropped it. It clattered against the floor but he scooped it up quickly and was looking it over when Than walked through the door, a young lady following behind him. "Hey Than!" Trevor called, catching the other SC's attention.

"Yeah?" Than asked, making his way over to the pool table, followed by the young woman.

"How about you introduce your lady friend, and we have ourselves a team game of pool. Losers buy the first round of drinks tonight?" Trevor set the bets at, then leaned against the table and waited for Than's reply.

"Deal. This is Skylla, Kaph 9. Skylla, this is Nazgul's SC, Trevor, and&Someone who I don't know?" Than asked, Trevor realizing that he had forgot an introduction of his own.

"This is Skar. He's brand new, and I figured the best way to make him comfy would be to have a little game of pool." Trevor explained as he handed Skylla and Than a pair of pool cues from the rack, and began setting up the balls. It took him only a few moments and he was ready to break. In one swift movement the balls seemed to explode about the table, but not a single one entered the pockets. Than stepped up and carefully aimed a shot, sinking the 9 ball. "You're stripes, we're solids." Than said, and aimed his next shot.

OOC: Alright, so we're now all in the rec room. I'd like to see a few posts going on with the characters interacting. Than and Skar This game of pool will last only one post for each of you, so make your posts as drawn out as possible. Have the guys trying to get into each other's heads and stuff like that. I'll wrap up the pool game in my next post. Jaden Mingle with Kaph :P I would have included you in the pool game but I want the new guy to get some posting time. Maybe catch up with Darius? Kaph I can't give you orders. Nazgul let's see some activity. I know most of you are still around, so why is no one posting?

(OOC: Luckily i play quite a bit of pool in my spare time, so i have a grasp of what im talking about )

Skar stood away from the pool table, carefully observing Than. He stood bent over the table, the pool cue a few millimetres away from touching his chin. His eyes were focused right down the cue. He slowly began to move the cue back and forth a few times, before sending it forward with force, sending the cue ball rolling down the table. It clattered into a red ball on the table, which accelerated off towards the corner pocket. it just nudged the edge of the pocket slightly, but it was enough to push the ball away. Than leaned back up and cursed quietly to himself.

"You're turn kid" He called over.

Skar suddenly looked up, his eyes hadn't left the table since Than's shot. He saw Than pointing at the table, so he nodded and stepped forward. Trevor stepped forward with him. They stood silently scanning the table for a few seconds, before Trevor pointed out a ball on the side side cushion just a few inches away from the pocket.

"That shouldn't be too difficult. And even if you miss, your not likely to leave them much"

Skar smiled slightly and leaned over the table, trying to memorise what Than did in his shot. He domed his left hand up in something that resembled a spider. He then placed the cue between his middle and ring fingers.

"Kid" Trevor called out.

Skar looked back to Trevor. Than was stood just behind him, trying desperately not to burst out laughing.

"put the cue between your thumb and fingers" Trevor advised, holding his hand up and tapping the v shape he made separating his thumb and fingers. Skar thanked Trevor quickly before looking back at the table, trying desperately to hide the fact his face was rapidly going red.

He readjusted his grip, letting the cue steady itself in the v-shape he was told to. He pointed the cue so that the white ball would hit the ball hopefully where he wanted it to. He then took a few practice strokes like he saw Than take, and sent the cue clattering into the cue ball.

"Beginners luck, bet you cant do it again" Than said, attempting to burn a hole in the somewhat smug Skar. The striped ball rolled around the bottom of the table to where he stood.

Four techs watched as the pilot inspected their work on the refurbished tie interceptor.  It had taken days to make the craft look like it could fly and days more to make it safe for someone to venture in the cockpit and power it up.  Petty Officer Casca Phennir was that pilot.  Fearless, he eagerly volunteered to fly the craft.  Casca cursed the techs in his coldest, most bitter tone as he found yet another malfunction on the craft.  "For the last time you bantha pie brained hissquits!  Fill up the tranilube tanks to the top!  What is this? The restraints aren't even sealed in properly.  Get yourselves a proper diagnostics scanner next time!"  Casca cursed the techs out in some odd language and stormed out.

He was not mad at the techs; he was frustrated at the condition of the ship; and, instead of heading directly for the Nazgul barracks, Casca turned toward the information offices of the mSSD Atrus.  The information offices were a collection of rooms dedicated to files and data collection.  Casca went strait up to one of the warrant officers and asked for the track files on the refurbished tie interceptor.  The warrant officer gave Casca an odd look before asking, "Do you want the records on the last pilot as well?"

"Go ahead, I could burn some time," Casca took the data pads and left the room while reading one of the screens.  The interceptor was in mint condition up until its last mission above Massari.  Casca sighed and read over the next data pad.  The name immediately struck a nerve as he read it.  Raigen Tei-Yehn, medical discharge.  Last position, flight member Nazgul 2-7.  Raigen&the Surface Marshal who had him nearly executed by the Empire.  Casca twisted his face into a scornful frown and stormed back to the information office to do some more research.

***

Petty Officer 2nd Class Casca Phennir found his way to the Nazgul barracks quickly and without distraction.  He carried the smallest of personal bags which was not even personal in the least bit.  The tote bag was black with a small imperial roundel centered on either side.  It held two changes of clothing, namely: an exact copy of the light grey, naval tunic he was wearing and a black flight suit with his wing and squadron's markings and patches.  Casca carried no gun at his side, no jewelry, no com links, and basically, no personal effects of any kind.

That was Casca Phennir's style, Imperial from head to toe, top to bottom, inside and out.  One would look at him and tell only his rank and job description.  Petty Officer 2nd Class, Imperial pilot; it gave Mr. Phennir a distinct feeling of pride just thinking about it, but it also reminded him of how far he had fallen.  From Wing Adjutant in the 75th, to flight member in a completely different military, Casca had indeed fallen from grace.  However, it only made him work harder to rise through the ranks and regain his glory.

Casca approached the Nazgul barracks with a steady pace and entered it silently as two or three of the pilots looked up to see Casca.  He quickly chose a bottom bunk near the door and set his bag down on top.  He nodded to the other pilots and unpacked his belongings, not that they actually belonged to him.  Casca wiped his boots off with a small towel, polishing them up to Imperial standards.

"You got any cards?" Mr. Dagoram asked.  Casca was not paying attention as he wiped some lint off his uniform.  He looked up to see a fellow Petty Officer staring him down.  It was an awkward feeling, having someone expect an answer to a question you do not know.  Casca wondered why the pilot was talking to him in the first place.

"Hmm, what was that?"  Casca asked, confused.  The Petty Officer arched an eyebrow before answering Casca.  He continued to dig through his bag as he talked.

"Pazaac&Do you play?"  Mr. Dagoram asked as he showed Casca a yellow card from his bag.  Casca frowned; he had never taken to card playing.  He never really showed any interest in it.

"Don't have the time," Casca said as he stretched and looked up as one of the pilots made an announcement.

"Message from Trev on all our data pads, so don't bother checking them:  Meet up in the rec-room, he'll meet us there." The pilot then led the rest of Nazgul out of the barracks and into the rec-room next door.

***

"Alright boys, we're going out for some stuff soon, but it's a co-op with Kaph. We're going to meet up with them in their rec-room and get introduced, before we head to the briefing together. Do some friendly bonding over a game of pool and some drinks."  Casca listened intently to these instructions from his CO.  He did not understand what knowing his flight members had to do with being a pilot, but he did not object.

Casca looked as his CO led the squadron into the mess for breakfast.  It was a bit late for breakfast, but he did not complain.  Instead he picked up a copy of the Vast Empire's military magazine, "Crewman."  It listed the recent promotions and news for enlisted Naval members.  He noticed that his Commanding Officer had been commissioned, and he was about to congratulate him when a lieutenant walked up to the ensign.

"Nice to see your joining us," said Trevor, "It's been too long," Casca saw the two officers shake hands before the lieutenant looked around.

"Tomas, good to see your still here.  Darius, Casca....and who is this?" Lieutenant Khaar said.  Casca was surprised that this pilot even knew his name.  Casca nodded and waited until the squadron left the mess and went to Kaph's rec-room.

Tomas sat in the mess hall with the rest of the squadron, idly sipping a glass of water. Looking around at the other pilots it took a lot of effort to fight back a sigh. Only Trevor and Darius remained from the first mission Tomas had been on with Nazgul, not all that long ago. Since joining their ranks, Tomas had quickly earned a number of promotions as well as the role of lead for Nazgul's third flight. Life couldn't have been better at the time and he had been optimistic about what the future held....

Halfway through his first mission with Nazgul as he led his flight into an asteroid field...everything had changed...they had encountered resistance on their way to the rendezvous point, in the form of a Y-wing squadron going by the name Tachurus. Tomas had witnessed the death of his wingmate and near destruction of another member of his flight. It had led to a complete gutting of his flight, as the other two survivors were transferred for trauma-related issues.

From there, things had only gotten worse. The subsequent mission found Tomas leading a brand new set of flightmates into what was supposed to be a simulation of sorts. But when things went wrong, it got ugly. His newest wingmate lost her cool and it resulted in him watching helplessly as she spiralled into a horrible collision with a ground. Although the squadron has managed to emerge victorious, Tomas' flight had once again been disbanded. There was no telling if Delia would recover from her injuries, Sol had been transferred to flight one and Valin had been transferred out of the squadron all together. What could he do to stop this downward fall? He had become a shepherd without a flock to lead. But with all that had happened so far, Tomas couldn't help but think that might be a good thing for the time being...

Suddenly, Tomas' train of thought was broken as the mess door slid open and a familiar face walked in. Jaden approached Trevor and after shaking hands, Tomas noticed Jaden's gaze sweep across the room, briefly falling on him among the others.

"Tomas, good to see your still here.  Darius, Casca....and who is this?" Jaden called out across the hall, before meeting Sol formally. As Jaden and Trevor engaged in conversation, Tomas looked down wondering how long he'd been taking sips from the apparently empty glass in his hand.

**In Jaden's Head**

"The meeting is in 15 minutes.  I'll see you there," Trevor said, "Oh, and just to let you know.  Tomas is your wingman"

A smile came to Jaden's face.  Whether or not he knows it yet, that kid's got potential to be one heck of a pilot...should be fun....

// The Day of Than and Will's change of command//

Etan stood patiently alongside of the rest of his squadron. Patience, uniforms and ceremonies weren't a part of Etan's demeanor, yet, he knew it was required of him. His animal instincts would just have rathered been in a dog fight flying any craft and blasting away. Still, he stood at attention waiting patiently, while command of Kaph squadron was transferred from Will to Than. Etan roared, which was the equivalent to the rest of the squadrons claps.

Willtconq, had been more than a superior to him. He had been a friend. On more than one occasion, Will had admonished him for either inferior behavior or substandard flying. To Etan, that marked the points of a leader. Now, Will had stepped down, for personnel reasons, of course. But Etan would never forget his early training days with Will.

It did not matter to Etan who commanded them, so much as they were competent pilots, and Than was. Than had led this squadron through the Kaph-Mortain mission. Etan's first such mission with the VEN. Etan was proud to be a part of that project, and, looked forward to many more. It seemed as if this transfer of command might mean more action for the Kaph, and , that was something Etan relished.

As the ceremony was dismissed, and the factual squadrons dispersed, Etan left with a certain amount of hope. Hopefully, they would have the chance to fly and fight, which is the whole reason Etan joined the VEN to begin with. Flight and fight were all he knew.

Etan watched as the various members of each squadron left the arena of action. Here, a small play was played out as Willtconq had transferred command to Than Sion. Neither, of which Etan had a great like or dislike for. Etan, only liked the action.

It seemed as if they were all a part of a bigger whole. Instinctively, Etan made his way to the Kaph rec-room/quarters.

All of Phoenix Wing was gathered in the Kaph rec-room. Nazgul and Kaph stood side by side. Some stood by the pool table, amicably talking. Others lounged around the Inter-stellar communications screen watching the latest pod-racing event. Still, others stood at the informal bar asking for their favorite drinks and glancing casually around. Something was at hand that Etan hadn't been informed about.

Of course, as an individual that usually kept to himself, maybe Etan hadn't really listened. And, listening now , Etan discovered, there was a far greater mission to be had.

Some of the Nazgul talked of flying with the Kaph to overthrow the New Republic. Etan brazenly walked through the thick mass of pilots towards the hallway that led to quarters. Everyone stood clear as the young wookie pilot made his way through the crowd.

Everyone that is except Than. Than watched as the wookie was the last to join the group. He waited patiently as the young pilot surveyed the room and made his decisions. He knowingly waited for Etan to make his exit and at that moment, stood up to commence the meeting. He stood right in the way of the wookie.

Etan glanced down. He knew better than to challenge his superior, yet, still, he felt the urge. Etan quickly realized that this was an important  moment. Than gave Etan that look of superiority that made Etan turn to sit where Than once was. Now was a time for briefing.

She was finally home.

She had been called back for a mission, and she was glad to be back. She had practically run onto the Atrus when she had been ported off the Doashim. She had spent a good amount of time among the technicians, and she had made so many friends, but she was tired of being homesick all the time.

She had walked onto the Atrus, feeling confident, and unlike on her entrance to the Doashim, she knew where she was going, who she was looking for and wasn't utterly and totally alone.

Before she even dropped off her bag at her new cabin, she had set off to find her Nazgul, her friends, her family. She knew that Nazgul had changed a lot with her leaving. She was so excited to meet the new ones, but was also sad that the ones she had known since she had first started, alone and confused, wouldn't be there any longer.

She had also been filled in about Kaph joining up with Nazgul and excited to meet them as well. But she knew this feeling of confidence and zealous excitement would wear off when they would be introduced to each other. Her shyness would prevail once again. But for some reason she didn't feel the same about the new Nazgulians. She thought it was mainly because they had joined the family, and weren't just strangers she would only know for a week or so.

But being a technician for so long, she had shunned the idea of briefings, not having any missions to be briefed on. She had got here on time to make the mission briefing, and it was going to happen soon apparently. But even for something as simple as a briefing, she was ecstatic. She felt so overwhelmed with feelings that hadn't been there before for so long she was oblivious to everything else. But she had to remind herself every so often not to bring these feelings into the cockpit with her. She needed to get on her serious face, and she knew a round in the sims would definitely be called for. But for now, she would focus her attention on finding Nazgul.

She had passed a technician and asked him if he had happened to know where Kaph and Nazgul squadrons were at the moment. He grunted and told her where they were listlessly and walked away as Toki quickly said her thanks.

She found herself walking so fast to a point where she was almost jogging. She knew the way to Kaph's rec room. She had walked past it many times before and when she had reached the mess hall, she looked around frantically for the right hallway, trying to get the Doashim's layout out of her mind.

On her way over she had accidentally taken a wrong turn once or twice, realizing her mistake as soon as it had been made. The Doashim's layout had been desperately learned out of fear of getting lost and it was harder for her to pull out the mental map of the Atrus. But she had found the right corridor and let herself run down it, turning off the radar that told her when other people thought she was being a freak.

She burst through the door, the idea of knocking totally oblivious to her. She stood in the doorway, looking around her. Most conversations had stopped at her hurried arrival. She let her bag slide off her shoulder to the floor with a thump and let her breath steady itself.

She spotted Trevor first and smiled as their eyes met, and then made a quick scan around the room.

Casca looked down at his data pad and read over the information he had compiled from the inf-offices.  All he could determine was that the Surface Marshal Raigen Tei-Yehn had been flying for the remnant and working with the pirate group in his spare time.  His medical discharge was only validated because of his long history of injuries.  Casca cursed, to think that he was riding the trail of that...pirate.  What did it matter, it had taken Raigen over a year to reach NCO status, and Casca reached Petty Officer in mere weeks.  That was comfort enough for the Imperial as he read over the information.

Profile for pilot SDA-1-19 Raigen Tei-Yehn.  This information has been declassified by the information offices of the mSSD Atrus and is available to non civilians who have not been given dis-honorable discharge or are under review by the COMPVEMP.

VENA: Raigen Tei-Yehn, passed through the VENA through a technical issue and was allowed to remain in active duty due to previous training and recommendation from superiors.

Aegis Squadron
Hidden Power: Leading Crewman Raigen exhibited conduct unbecoming a Vast Imperial pilot.  Insubordination and failure to follow simple orders jeopardized the lives of his squadron and led to the death of squadron member Gemini.  How the pilot was promoted afterward is still questionable.

Shattering Fate: Senior Crewman Raigen's behavior was "up to par" but lack of concentration during the squadron's preflight led to damage on the pilot's ship that would later result in the destruction of the Imperial Tie Scimitar he was flying.  Note: Lack of enthusiasm for the craft he was flying may also have been a cause for this crash.  Wing Commander Shazam and Raigen, who were both grounded in the course of the battle, were able to escape together.  We were skeptical about allowing Raigen to fly again.

Space Station Zebra: Senior Crewman Raigen has exhibited one trait that has not been seen in him yet, teamwork.  His work with pilot Spacespeed is excellent.  We only regret that the pair were split up after this mission.

Adoration of Silence: Mental instabilities noted.  It would seem that Raigen's success in his last mission has come at a price.  However, he worked well with Senior Crewman Kneoic, his wing mate until being shot down in space.  Raigen was able to repair his craft and return to the battle.

Nazgul Squadron
Messari: Not much to say, another crash.

Living on a Prayer: Separation from Aegis Squadron seems to have taken a toll.

Through the Eyes of Tyrany: Raigen seems to have finally found himself as a pilot. Unfortunately, he has opted for medical discharge. Replacing him with a new, more Imperial pilot from the academy. Crewman Phennir should prove to be the polar opposite of this insubordinate nightmare.

Last Rank and Position: SDA-1-19 FM/PO2 Raigen DarkBlayde Tei-Yehn/Nazgul Squadron 2-7/Phoenix Wing/mSSD Atrus/OFF 1VENF/VEN/VE(=*A*=)[BRC][BWC][VC:B]

Casca smirked as he looked up to see a female tech standing before him.  She was much shorter, but carried herself in a powerful way that led one to wonder what was underneath the jumpsuit.  The nametag said Challon.  "What is it? I'm busy," Casca mumbled as he went back to his datapad.

The tech went red faced and kicked Casca in the shin before grabbing the data pad and proclaiming her point.  "My superior officer instructed me to have this data pad brought back.  He thought you had enough time to read over it and did you a favor by having me retrieve it so that you wouldn't have to return it."  The tech made a frustrated noise before turning and storming off.

Casca found himself with the entire room staring at him...

Kaph 9

It was her turn with the stick, Skar failed to get in another ball.  She smirked at the memory of how Than got brought into this.  She wouldn't say that Than was afraid of Trevor, though she wouldn't blame him if he was since Nazgul's SC was five inches taller than Kaph's.  It was more of that he had a respect for Trevor and tried to avoid doing anything that could even remotely tarnish the returned respect.  What was even more amusing was how Skar and Trevor looked at her.  Like most men, they saw her as something beautiful and fragile.  The irony was the fact that she could kill both of them in a heartbeat, though she had no want to do so since they were friends, not the enemy.

She lined up her stick, taking aim at the two ball.  She propelled the cue ball forward.  It hit the two ball, which also hit the seven ball.  They went into holes opposite of each other.  She didn't have any good shots for her next turn.  She tried to force the five ball to angle toward one of the corner pockets on the far side, but only managed to get it to roll into the middle of the table.

Trevor was next.  She couldn't help but wonder why he chose to be a pilot.  His height must make a cockpit uncomfortable.  He looked very professional as he lined up his shot.  Some how he was able to get an impossible angle on the eleven ball, driving it into the right, center pocket.  The cue ball gave him a good angle for his next shot.  He drove the 13 ball straight into the top, left pocket.  Though he put too much force on the cue for it scratch with thirteen.  He made a slight cringe before looking at Than.

"you know what they say, thirteen is unlucky," quoted Lieutenant Sion as he prepared for his next turn.  He lined up his stick in a more humble form than Trevor's.  Most men didn't understand what she saw in Kaph 1.  He wasn't an overly attractive person in comparison to her.  He was a tall, skinny man with messy hair, though he did have nice eyes.  Though his physical attributes were not what she loved him for.  He was an understanding man who always did what he felt was right.  He saw her as a person, not a piece of ass like the Storm Trooper earlier.  He was the only one that she trusted to, and was not afraid to, tell about her past.  He hit the cue ball; it drove the five ball that she missed into one of the middle pockets.  He then proceeded to land the six ball into the bottom, left pocket.  He was now left with a crappy angle.  He aimed at another ball, but it was in vain for he was unable to get the shot.

Skar was up.  Out of the two Nazgul pilots, he was the quickest to advert his gaze.  She could tell that he had a shy, quiet nature.  This was nice since too many men had big mouths.  He was able to land in the twelve ball but once again did not achieve a second hit.

Skylla hit the four ball in but was unable to land it.  It was a stupid mistake and she told herself that many times in her head after making it.

Trevor was up again.  He again used his graceful form.  This time he knocked two balls in with one shot.  His angle was bad for his next turn so he failed to get in the final stripe.  There was only one ball on each side left plus the eight ball.

(OCC:  I'm sorry that I did not finish quick enough, I see that Trevor has left IRC.  Things caused this post to go a little slow.  As for Kaph orders, I seem to remember saying something about interacting with Kaph members outside your element.  Plus there are a bunch of Nazguls to poke fun of.  Be creative you all.)

The game was going ok. Both teams were tied, and each only had two shots left to make, including the eight-ball. Trevor was lining up a shot that pointed towards the doorway, and looked up from the cue-ball to see Tokijin standing in the doorway. Their eyes met for a moment and grinned, and he couldn't help but notice a smile spread across his own face. He made his shot as she acknowledged her presence to the room, slightly amazed that the ball entered the pocket he was aiming for. He lined up his next shot but missed, sending the ball spinning into a perfectly lined up shot for Than to take. He sunk the shot but Trevor wasn't paying attention, he was making his way to the young lady standing at the door and wrapping her in a hug.

"So glad you're back Toki!" He said happily as he pulled himself back a little bit so he could see her better. She hadn't changed a bit, except for a few little things. Like the bend in her nose, obviously caused by it being broken. He reached up and poked at it. "Who did that?"

"Oh, that." She said with a pause, reaching up to touch her nose. "Uh, accident at work during the first couple of days. Nothing big, don't worry." She explained, pushing his hand down away from her face. She looked up over his shoulder and at the group of people around the room, few who she seemed to recognize, most she didn't. "Maybe you should introduce me to everyone I don't know?"

"I can do that." Trevor said, leading her back to the pool table, where he watched Skar miss his shot. "Before I do, I need to see how this goes." Skar looked up for a moment and then stepped back as Skylla began to line up her shot. She took her time, not rushing at all and calmly hit the cue ball into the 8-ball and watched it bounce off the side of the pool table and into the pocket next to her right hand.

"And that's how it's done." She said, placing her hands on her hips and grinning. Trevor laughed and took his pool cue back from Skar before setting it back on the rack. Then he introduced Tokijin.

"This is Skar," Trevor started. "He's brand new into the squadron, and will be flying in Darius' flight. That is Than, I think you've seen him a few times in the mess hall. This is Skylla." Trevor said, watching Tokijin shake hands with all three of the new people. As soon as she was done, Trevor nodded to Than. "I guess I pick up the tab for the first round tonight. I'm going to introduce Toki to the rest of Nazgul and then it's about time to head to the briefing."

"Yeah, sounds like a plan." Than said as he began to put away the rest of the pool table supplies with help from Skylla. Skar took a seat on a couch and began conversing with the man who had greeted Trevor at the start, Strangler. Tokijin waved to Darius as she spotted him, but Darius was busy cleaning one of his many weapons and didn't get out of his chair to come greet her, opting to wave back instead. Trevor led her by the hand to a small group of pilots, 3 Kaph and 2 Nazgul. He tapped Sol on the shoulder and got the attention of him as well as the other pilots.

"Mind if I borrow you, and Tom?" Trevor asked Sol, who nodded and stepped out of the circle with Tomas. The Kaph pilots went back to discussing something in slightly lower tones seeing as the Nazgul pilots were still in earshot.

"Yes Commander?" Tom asked, looking at Tokijin for a moment, his eyes staying on her blue highlighted hair. Sol was paying attention to Trevor, although he had cast Tokijin a sideways glance as well.

"This is Tokijin. She used to be in Nazgul before the two of you showed up, and she's going to be flying with us again. At least, I assume that's why you're back Toki." Trevor said, turning to Tokijin with a questioning look. He had forgot to ask if she had been given leave from the Doashim and was coming for a visit, or if she was actually re-assigned to Nazgul.

"Yeah, I'm back for now." She smiled, and shook the hands of the two men. "I'm Tokijin, but everyone calls me Toki or Toks." She explained. "I heard your name was Tom, but I don't know yours." She said to Tomas as she shook his hand, then to Sol as she shook his.

"I'm Sol." He replied, returning the handshake and looking back at Trevor. "How long till the briefing?"

"About 15 minutes. We're going to be leaving right away." Trevor replied, then nodded to Sol and Tom as a signal that they could return to their conversation. They did so and Trevor lead Toki back to the other side of the room, where Jaden was sitting. Jaden looked up from his data pad as they approached and nodded to Toks.

"Glad to see she's here already. I just got a message that she was going to be rejoining the squadron, as well as Jack Nebulax." Jaden said with a wide grin. "Looks like everyone is coming back."

"Yeah, I'll say." Trevor said as Toks gave Jaden a hug and then returned to his side. "So when is Jack going to show up."

"We're meeting him at the briefing. Speaking of which, when are we leaving?" Jaden asked as he stood and put his data pad away. He adjusted the neck on his shirt and shoved a hand into his pocket as he awaited his answer.

"Right away." Trevor said as he let go of Toki's hand and stood near the pool table. He raised his voice and spoke to the whole room, something he normally wouldn't have done if not for the added confidence of having Tokijin and everyone else back. "If I could have your attention! The briefing starts in 15 minutes, so I suggest that we all make our way to the briefing room. Nazgul, let's head out. Kaph, we owe you drinks so don't run off anywhere after the briefing."

The squadrons began to shuffle about and Nazgul was first out the door and on their way, Trevor, Jaden and Toks bringing up the rear of the group. "So what was that about us owing them drinks?" Jaden asked.

"Oh, a bet I made with Than. I'm going to be buying the first round for the squadrons. After the briefing." Trevor explained as he put his arm around Tokijin's waist as they walked. Jaden nodded and quickened his pace to catch up to Tomas, his new wing mate. This left Trevor and Tokijin walking alone, and Trevor was really enjoying the time he got to spend with he considering she had been gone for what he considered to be quite some time.

"Well, how has the squadron been?" She asked. He felt sort of bad, during the last few weeks he had hardly been sending her messages at all. Not that he didn't want to be, but he hadn't quite realized that being an SC was as much work as it was. Unless he was waiting for a briefing or waiting to fly out to the next mission, he hardly had any free time.

"It's been functioning. The last two missions have been hellish, but this one might be different. You are back after all. Enough about that though, it's not too important right now. You tell me about all you learned on the Doashim" Trevor replied to her, trying to hide the fact that deep down, he was nervous about his performance as SC. He had lost more pilots in two missions then he could remember Shazam losing, although he had to admit that the number was about the same. Still, not a very good track record, even if all those pilots weren't really lost, but rather transferred. He thought to himself as he waited for Tokijin to reply.

OOC: alright, left it open for Toks to reply. Than, get your guys to the briefing room. You can start the briefing if you want to, or let one of them do it, I don't care. Just remember that Shaz is going to be giving both squadron's the briefing. If you don't do it though, I'll post it in my next post (between two and three days from now, or sooner if there is enough posts ). Alright, good work everyone. Nazgul show up in the briefing room and gossip about the mission. Aside from it being with Kaph, you dudes don't know what's going to be happening with it.

Wow..There's so many of them. Since her absence Nazgul seemed to have changed a lot. She hadn't been filled in on most of it so this all had come as a suprise to her. Trevor had gone through all the introductions with her, pointing out everyone and shaking their hand. She ran threw everyone's name twice in her head. Like on the Doashim she didn't want to forget any names and make herself feel bad when she could remember.

She had been glad to see Dar but was slightly disappointed when he had chosen to remain seated instead of coming over to see her. But that feeling was quickly forgotten as more members had been introduced to her. She hoped that she would soon be able to become good friends with them.

She found that in flight knowing who she flew with helped her at the very least. She wouldn't have to worry about being judged from anything she did up in the air. She had to contradict herself on that thought though; if anyone was in a life or death situation she doubted that anyone would become critical of her actions unless it had cost someone their life. She hoped it wouldn't come to that though.

Trevor and Tokijin walked down the hall closely. She was so glad to be back, and she hadn't felt the warmth from another human like this in a while. She loved how well her hand fit in Trevor's as he pulled her around. They way they had walked like this had been sorely missed while she was away.

"You tell me about all you learned on the Doashim." Trevor's voice had penatrated her thoughts and she was suddenly pulled back from the depths of her mind.

"Hm? Oh! There's really so much I learned. The whole time was mostly one big cram session. But I figured out so many things I never thought I could do before! Like, for example, I can rewire a computer, and check a ship's engine, though I hadn't gotten as far on that as I hoped I would, I can revive a crashed system and figure out any technical problems fairly easy."

She stopped to take a breath and heard Trevor chuckle next to her as he listened to her enthusiastic reply. "Oh, I had a wonderful time learning. Aggie even gave me some reading material. A real book! I wasn't all that surprised that she had given it to me though; she liked me fairly well and was always encouraging me to keep learning."

"Who's Aggie?" Trevor looked down at her with a slight confused expression. She had totally forgotten to tell him about her friends she was so caught up with herself.

"Oh, Agatha Drea is - was my boss. She was the lead technician who taught me everything I know. She was such a nice person, very spunky for an old lady too."

"Oh? And who else did you meet aboard the Doashim?" She looked up at Trevor's face, reminding herself to be careful about who she told him about. She could see the slight anxity on his face. Probably wondering if I met any guys on board, I think. She smiled at the thought of any of her fellow technicans being any sort of romantic interest.

"Hmm. . . Well there's Briana, my only girl friend really; Errol, he was a nice guy, liked to drink a lot though; Robi, he hung out with Bria and myself a lot, seemed to be the only person who could get me un-lost; and then there's Dahar. He was my technician partner." When she had mentioned Dahar she unconsiously reached up to touch her nose, and gave a shadow of a smile on at the memory. At least she had learned she could take a hit to the nose fairly well.

"Sounds like you made lots of friends. But I did miss you." Trevor looked down at her, smiling.

"I missed you too. It's good to be home. As much as I love getting y hands dirty, nothing can compare to the openness of the flight zone, or feel of the solid yoke in your hand." A wide smile took over Toki's face as she stretched her hands over her head and listened for the pop of her back. "I'm fairly excited for this mission actually."

Trevor's face seemed to darken slightly at the thought of the mission. Concerned and curiousity clouded her thoughts. She never had heard the details of the missions that she had missed. Had something more happened than Trevor was leading on? But she was also sure part of his. . . insecurity maybe? Was caused by the change to Squad Commander. She had no clue really and was never all that good at reading emotions. She would have to drill into his head later.

"So how have you been?" She quizzed at an attempt to change the subject.

"Oh, good I suppose."

"Yeah?" He gave her a nod. "Well you'll have to tell me about it all later. I may or may not be correct, but I do believe we are nearing the briefing room?"

(to be edited later. . . I think. . .)

Skar walked in the middle of the group, looking from one person to the next. He had always been a very good reader of people, although Trevor had still got him baffled. Aside from his obvious relationship with Tokijin, he still coudn't pick much apart. He had seemed friendly enough when Skar first met him, although he couldn't quite get his head around the feeling he only did that because it was his job. He had been told Trevor only recently became the SC, therefore he would be eager to impress.

He gave up, it was hopeless. He turned to look at Skylla who walked just a few paces in front of him. Funnily enough she seemed to be doing exactly the same that Skar was, casually summing up each member of the group. They had just so happened to turn to sum each other up at the exact same time. Skar broke eye contact with her the moment he noticed it even existed. He heard her laugh warmly.

"Never thought i'd see the day when I met a shy imperial"

Skar looked back up to her, with some difficulty. He was too shy to lock eye contact with her, but if he looked at anything else but her face he'd look like a pervert. He found the solution, he concentrated on the space inbetween her eyes.

"What do you mean?" He asked her.

She smiled again.
"You know, a soldier is supposed to be brash, arrogant, cocky. But you, you're different"

Skar tried not to lose himself in thought, instead trying to keep focused on talking.

"How so?"

"Well for one, you're actually talking to my face, unlike most of the jerks around here"

Skar smiled back, not quite sure on what to say back.

Etan listened intently as the squadron leaders discussed their plans.......

Casca had left them room following after..... Etan could not say immediately. What Etan knew was that the room came to a hush as the Nazgul leader entered the room. Mr. Trevor Evenson was his name, and silence fell around him. He walked right up to Than, who all in the Kaph respected. Whispering in his ear, Than stepped aside, letting Mr. Evenson say his peace.

"Let it be known to those in the Nazgul that we have a very serious mission at hand." Those that stood, stood at attention. Those that sat, sat at alert. "It has been charged with us to use a secetly coveted squadron of Y-wings to infiltrate the New Republic. As many of you know, we don't have enough pilots to man a whole squadron. That is where the Kaph comes in. Over the years, I know a certain amount of animosity has been built up between us and the Kaph. However, now is not the time for that. Today, the Kaph fills in our spaces. We fly as one. Either we, accomplish this mission together, defeating the New Republic space, or, we go down together, becoming a blot on the Vast Imperial Navy archives." Mr. Evenson hadn't really beleived that last part, yet he used it as an Imperial tool.

It worked. The entire Nazgul flight stood to attention along with several Kaph, appauding the Nazgul commander, awaiting further orders. Etan stood, out of respect. He did not clap or roar. He stood waiting for the final instructions.

Those were yet to be seen......

OOC: As solid and strict a character Casca is, I was remembering something a while back, a hanger from Columbus AFB in Mississippi, and decided that this little mini story would be perfect to incorporate as a character development. Please refrain from thinking too much, and enjoy.

Casca looked on as the two squadrons stopped staring at him and went back to their business.  Embarrassed and infuriated, he stormed out of the rec-room. "Sitting around like fools, playing when there is work to be done," and no one would have noticed the shear rudeness of the comment since he said it in a heavy Coruscunti accent.  Casca refrained from kicking the passing mouse droid on his way out.

Groroworah the Wookie would comment as Casca departed the room.  His droid, C3PWO, nodded. "Indeed, master Etan.  It would seem...that the pilot replacing Raigen is nothing at all like him.  I would venture as far as my observation matrix would allow me to say that...this pilot is the complete opposite of Air Marshal Raigen...complete opposite."  Leading Crewman Etan grumbled and crossed his arms.  "Most unfortunate..."

Casca's black, polished boots clunked heavily on the metal floor panels of the Atrus as Crewman Challin walked faster to avoid the bitter man.  Casca was determined to make his point, however, and his pace quickened to that of a jog before the two's chase quickly transformed into a run.  It was at the turn of the corridor far away from the rec-room that Casca caught up with the tech, pushing her into a nook that held one of the ships many blast doors.

The female stared into Casca's eyes with nothing but hatred, hating the pilot, hating his rudeness, and hating his brute force exerted on her.  She quickly shifted her weight onto him, shoving him against the other side of the nook and kicking up to press her own boot against Casca's neck, choking him.

Casca was not completely unfortunate in the field of combat, and the thought of being taken by a female enraged him.  There was to be no horse playing, he would exert full force on her to teach her a lesson not soon forgot.  Casca grabbed her boot with both hands and twisted until the tech lost balance and fell face first onto the floor, surprised and appalled that she could be swept off her feet so easily.

The women was not one to be reprimanded for fights with higher ranking naval members and decided to give one swift kick in the shin before crawling up and escaping through the adjacent blast door.  Casca fell to the floor in a crude mix of pain and frustration as the female escaped, closing the blast door behind her.  He hurriedly opened the blast door and entered the black abyss before him.

Casca had never seen anything quite so dark in his life.  As if they were using anti-lights to absorb any brightness whatsoever.  After a minute or so, lights began to pound on the vast maintenance hanger before him.  There were four fighter spaced apart as much as possible, parts of them exposed or taken off for repair.  Many of their engines had been removed for maintenance.  Casca recognized them all as tie advanced fighters.

The woman was gone, and it perturbed Casca to see the single most hated being in his mind across from him.  Raigen Tei-Yehn, complete with his surface marshal dress uniform.  Casca cursed the pilot in Bocci before grabbing a vibroblade that happened to be sitting on a work bench besides him.

"Whats the matter, Thrawnist.  Come back for another ass kicking?"  Raigen would say as he produced a double bladed vibrosword from his back.  The hum of the two vibraweaponry reverberated off the near-empty hanger to add to the ambiance.  Casca contorted his face into a death glare and struck the blade against the floor, sending sparks up and a large ching throughout the hanger.

"I lost my rank, my position, MY ENTIRE LIFE because of you!"  Casca proclaimed as he spun the sword in a threatening fashion.  The hatred was clear.

"Come now, Thrawnist.  It can't be that bad.  Look, your already up to pity officer...you'll be a major again soon," Raigen taunted as he spun his own blade from his left to his right side.  He was not even worried about angering the pilot, "It must be horrible, losing everything to a mere child.  By the way, did I tell you I was only seventeen?  Oh yes, I believe I busted your balls about that already.  When was that?  Oh right, right after I disabled you craft."

Casca had heard enough, he charged Raigen and swung his blade high to take off the pirate's head.  Raigen simply raised his sword as it hummed, parallel to the deck, blocking the initial attack and vibrating a long chung across the hanger.  Casca spun his blade before bringing it across, left to right.  The pirate would not have it as the swoop was stopped by a simple turn of the long blade.  "Come now, Phennir...You'll have to do better than that!"

The pirate kicked Casca as he brought his blade around for an attack.  Casca flinched before the hanger would instantly go dark again.

Casca awoke in the nook with a large knot on his head and a bloody lip.  He returned to the rec-room wondering what was real and what wasn't.

Jaden had finally made his way to the briefing room.  Trevor and everyone else were still a bit down the hall, walking and talking, but Jaden wanted to get there early and check things out.

Upon his arrival to the room, he was basically "attacked" by one of his old friends.  Good Sir Jack Nebulax.

"Jack, its been so long!" said Jaden, firmly gripping Jacks hand and giving him a bit of a hug.

A grin came across Jacks face, "Yea, its been way too long."

"I really am not going into detail to ask about where you've been, but how long are you going to be back for?" said Jaden.

"Ah, I'm not really sure.  Hopefully for atleast a 3 month tour or a 6 month, I'm not really sure whats going to be coming up," said Jack

"Well, atleast your here for a while," said Jaden

Jaden took a seat in the middle section of the seating in the room.  Jack took a seat next to him, and then people started filing into the rows.  Nazgul Sat on one side, Kaph sat on the other.  The tention in the room could be cut with a knife.  Both of the Squadrons were itching to know more about the mission, because they had all only been partly informed of what was actually going to happen, and the one thing they all hated the most about what they had heard was....

"You will be flying Y-wings this mission, not those Interceptors that your used to flying...."

Skar couldn't help but feel a little disapointed at hearing Y-Wing's would be the fighters of choice. This would be his first taste of active duty, and the fact he would not be flying the craft he had learnt the most about left a somewhat bitter taste in his mouth. He had heard all the facts, about how it is one of the fastest things a mere body could ever expect to fly, physically capable of escaping damn nearly any encounter. But having a real taste of an Interceptor would have to wait, he was stuck in what he saw as the inferior young brother. And a quick glance around the faces of everyone else in the room confirmed he was not the only one thinking this.

Skar broke his chain of thought as someone sat down next to him. He turned to face the man and smiled.

"it's Skar right?" The man asked.

Skar nodded in reply and the man smiled.

"Im Sol. Just heard from Trevor me and you will be flying together"

Skar smiled back.
"I look forward to it"

They sat in silence for what felt like an age. Every now and again Sol would open his mouth to speak, for him to only shut it again when it occured to him it was silly. Finally, he came up with something to say.

"So, got any brothers or sisters?"

"Only by blood"

Skar's answer came thick and fast, as if he ddin't want to linger on that topic at all. Sol gulped, it was obvious he had hit a sore spot.

"So, i hear you aced the Academy as well?" Skar started conversation, for the first time.

"I guess you could say that, but a flimsy piece of paper doesn't mean anything when your out in space being stalked by a Y-Wing, now does it?"

Skar laughed.
"I guess not"

Casca wiped the blood from his mouth as he entered the briefing room.  His data pad had been taken by the hasty tech, not realizing that she had taken his personal pad with the info chip in it.  Casca was forced to read the mission specifications off of a borrowed pad.  He hated variations from routine and made a mental note to retrieve his data pad upon return to the Atrus.  The room was beginning to crowd and Casca was the third to enter, which annoyed him since he was usually there first.  Second Lieutenant Khaar and a warrant officer Casca did not recognize were the ones before him.

Casca nodded before taking a seat up front where he could get a good view and take mental notes before the mission.  He was putting aside the rumor that they would not be flying interceptors until he heard it from one of the Squadron Commanders.  The thought of flying a fighter or Emperor forbid, flying a conventional bomber was appalling.  Casca set his mind to different things and cursed himself for not checking in with the impudent techs.

"Technicians, the immune system of this body we call the Empire.  It is made up of those monkeys who were too stupid to know how to fly a fighter, but could conjure the brains to remember where each part goes.  They are below you in the food chain.  Keep a healthy fear instilled in them, and they will do as you please."  A student in the back next to Casca raised their hand. "Yes, Kalome...What is it this time.  And try not to make another stupid remark or I'll have you shipped right back to Imperial Center."  The pilot stated his point, unsure of the comment's validity, "Why...uh...not make friends with the tech so they don't vandalize your craft and such."  Casca laughed as the instructor spoke again, "If a tech is smart enough to sabotage your craft without you noticing, than you are indeed, lower than rebel scum.  For that stupid remark, the entire class will have a two thousand word disertation on ways to avoid and detect sabotage.  And you, Ensign Kalome, Lieutenant Phennir will ensure you run four miles before dawn."

Casca chuckled lightly before looking to his left where the Petty Officer from the barracks took a seat next to him.  Casca decided to make friendly and start conversation.  "PO Dagoram, right?" he asked as he angled his body toward him.

"Huh," the pilot returned as he looked up from his own data pad.  "Yeah, you're the new guy...or one of them.  I didn't catch your name?"  Mr. Dagoram asked as he examined Casca, who he hadn't noticed until now.

"Petty Officer Phennir, used to be a Wing Adjutant in Thrawn's fleet before...well...You're my flight leader, huh.  Got any tips?"  Casca shied away from the story of how he ended up in the VEN.  He looked back down to his data pad which was not working at the moment.

"Wing Adje huh...well.  Good luck.  The VE runs a lot different from Thrawn.  You'll see."  Mr Dagoram and Mr. Phennir both turned back to their data pads.  The rest of both squadrons filed in along with the Wookie and droid from the rec-room.

"I say master, it would seem that that answers your question," C3PWO stated.  Creman Evnstar growled low in reply.  "I agree, it would seem that he has been shaken up a bit.  Perhaps he should see one of the medical engineers...umm...after the briefing?"  Crewman Evnstar growled in disapproval and took his seat on the Kaph side of the room.

// Previously //

Etan had seen all that was going on in his young friend's life. Although, he counted Casca as a close friend, the time for personal matters was at a close. C3pwo was dissmissed while a  meeting was at hand. An important meeting between the Kaph and Nazgul.

//NOW//

Etan stood a midst the combined squadrons, towering over the numerous pilots that stood and sat. Giving leave to his trusted friend C3pwo, he took note of who stood where. A few meters away, an old friend of his, Casca, from the Nazgul squadron sat in one of the many chairs provided. Towards the back of the room, leaning up against the wall, was yet another aquaintance, Strangler, from Etan's own squadron. Cy, his flight leader, stood close to the podium, where the briefing would begin.

As C3Pwo exited the room, almost on que, Ensign Trevor Evenson started the meeting. Almost the entire room stood at attention while the Nazgul commander put them at ease. Etan glanced over to Casca, whose sight was intent on a disorderly pilot who insisted on talking, even though the meeting had started. The young wookie pilot took two steps forward, glaring down at the apparent disruption. The rookie pilot, at ease, slid back into the chair that he had previously occupied before he came to attention, glancing sheepishly towards the speaker Mr. Evenson. Etan took this moment to stroll through the crowd, making his presence a little less obvious by hugging the wall next to his flight leader Cy.

Although, rumors abound, Etan wasn't really sure how this breifing would go or where his part in it would be. All he really knew, was that, he was ready for a new assignment. Flying was what he knew, and, flying was what he was best at. Better yet, would be the fact that, he might be flying with the best of the best. If pilots like Cy and Than along with Jaden, Casca and the Strangler were involved, and of course the infamous leader of the Nazgul, Mr. Trevor Evenson, then the young wookie pilot was in for a treat.

Casca stood at attention as Nazgul's Squadron Commander addressed the assembly of pilots.  He would be the first out of his seat, as always.  Another, Mr. Dagoram stood from his seat prompting a few others (mainly recruits) to give Ensign Evenson the respect of the position of attention.  The casual "at ease" accompanied by the familiar, friendly wave of the hand signaled those who had seats to take them.  Tomas gave a slight nod of approval to the two recruits who stood.  Crewman Larith and Crewman Darkanto who were seated directly behind the two Petty Officers.  Casca approved but would not give them the ego boost of a friendly nod.

Ensign Evenson began, "At ease Nazgul...and Kaph.  Let it be known that we have a very serious mission at hand."  Casca wished the commander would get to the point.  How he despised theatrics and dressy wording.  Give me the kraff damned facts!

"It has been charged with us to use a secretly coveted squadron of Y-wings," sighs and other shows of disappointment flooded the briefing room as chatter began to stir amongst the squadrons.  Crewman Malko would curse before the Wookie crewman glared him to dead silence.  "Oh my...I believe I shouldn't be here.  Best to shut down for a bit..." C3PWO was ushered out the briefing as it began, no one removed him as it started because next to a Wookie, a droid seemed quite common and no one thought to have it removed.  By the time one of the Kaph pilots brought this to his own attention, the briefing had started, and most of the pilots were at attention and dared not move. Rowarrahhhuahhh  Crewman Evnstar growled to silence the room.  Warrant Officer Aehait silenced his side of the room while Lieutenant Kharr and Mr. Nebulax brought the Nazgulians to order.

"Eh hem...Now that that is out of the way.  It has been charged with us, Nazgul Squadron..." Commander Evenson stared down one of the Crewman who had decided to whisper after the call to order.  The crewman stopped and sunk into his seat in embarrassment before the CO continued, "and Kaph, to use a secretly coveted squadron of Koensayr Y-wings to infiltrate the New Republic."

Casca, who was quite quiet for the most of the meeting, was shaken by the mention of the word wing.  Wing meant two things, either rebel ships or a wing of fighters, and Casca hadn't heard the word Phoenix or First Imperial yet.  It was a shock that cannot be put into words (but I will anyway cause it makes for good reading!).  Casca had heard rumors of not flying Interceptors, but he thought they would give him the respect of flying him in a Sieniar ship at the least.  Give him an advanced, or a scimitar, a frontline fighter at the least; but by the Emperor's socks don't place him in a kriffing rebel scum boat!

Casca was not the only one shocked.  A few of the pilots who hadn't been paying attention for the first part of the briefing and missed the roar of disorder the first time contorted their faces in frowns and cursed on either on the emperor's body parts/possessions or their mother's grave.  Casca hated his mother, so naturally, he picked the emperor's smelliest of clothing.

"As many of you know, we don't have enough pilots to man a whole squadron.  That is where the Kaph comes in," Casca wished once again that his commanding officer would get on with it. Come now, Ensign...if you couldn't figure that out, what business do you have calling yourself Imperial.  "Over the years, I know a certain amount of animosity has been built up between us and the Kaph."  Casca shrugged.  He thought he heard someone whisper Aegis forevor but wrote it off.  "However, now is not the time for that.  Today, Kaph fills in our spaces.  We fly as one.  Either we, accomplish this mission together, defeating the New Republic space; or, we go down together, becoming a blot on the Vast Imperial Navy archives."  Casca nodded.

The entire Nazgul flight stood to attention along with several Kaph, applauding the Nazgul commander, awaiting further orders.  The two Nazgul Crewman behind Casca and Mr. Dagoram stood, clapping their little brains out and cheering for a concept that they did not understand.  You do not cheer for death.  You do not throw your life away for glory.  You do it for a purpose.  For the empire.  One Nazgul did not stand.  One Nazgul did not clap.  One Nazgul did not Cheer.  One Nazgul was ready to become a blot in the archives.  Casca crossed his arms and stared coldly at the display screen.

On the way to the Briefing

It took Kaph a whole 2 minutes longer to get organized and out the door than Nazgul.  This slightly embarrassed Than.  An elite squadron should be more disciplined than this.  How are we going to stay elite if we are sloppy like this during the tests?  Oh well, just something else to work on.

Toki and Trevor came into view as Kaph made its way through the twists and turns of the durasteel halls.  The two were walking slowly, so Kaph quickly caught up with them and passed them.  Than couldn't help but smile as they went by.  Tokijin had a personality that made it impossible for you to hate her.  It was kind of amusing how Trevor towered over Toki, though it was obvious that they were good friends.

Not long after leaving Toki and Trevor behind, the Elite Squadron caught up with Nazgul.  Sion noticed that the former Thrawnist had disappeared to some where.  Quite Frankly, Kaph 1 didn't trust Casca very much.  The news feeds made it pretty clear, Thrawn was no friend of the Vast Empire.  Beyond his "former" affiliation, he fit the description of Imperials in those NR propaganda holos too well.  But he wouldn't tell this to anyone, starting rumors would only cause problems.  He didn't need anymore problems.

He continued his thoughts as Skylla had a brief conversation with the Skar kid.  He was quiet, though so were Cyleaf and Demonic.  Sion didn't give the Nazgul recruit much more thought after that.  He wasn't possessive of his girl friend like some people were, he wasn't worried about her talking to other men.

The Thrawnist appeared again as the group approached the briefing room.  By his appearance and attitude, it looked like he just got in a fight and lost.  He noted to buy whoever did it a drink if he ever figured out who that person was.  Casca had a habit of being condescending to certain types of people, especially techs.  He once heard him mumbling something about monkeys as he passed the Thrawnist's fighter in the hanger bay...

The Present

"I just wanted to clear up those points," continued Trevor.  "So now I'll stop wasting Commander Shazam's time and let him give us the briefing."

Some how Phoenix Wing's Commander hadn't stood out till now.  He stepped from his wall and faced Trevor.  They saluted and Trevor sat down.  Some of the pilots in the room became self conscious and began to stand up, but Shazam motioned for them to sit.

"No need for that, men, we don't want formalities to distract us from the point at hand," explained Shazam in his usual assertive tone.  "Now then, let's get on with it."

Shaz hit a few buttons to activate the main holo display.  It showed an image of a Y-Wing.

"There was some complaining from some of you about the fact that you will be flying Y-Wings.  You are all so used to flying fighters that you feel that a conventional bomber is somewhat beneath you.  Considering the nature of the mission, you won't be using the bomber function of the Y-Wings much.

The fighters in question were captured three months ago during a raid of an NR outpost on the outskirts of the unknown region.  The assault turned out to be more effective then we thought, the NR forces fled after a short fight.  Among other useful things left behind were these fighters.  They were originally armed with a payload of bombs, but our fine mechanics modified the bombers to hold a payload of 10 concussion missiles.  They also worked very hard on the temperamental birds so that they will be ready for you all when the time comes for the operation."

Even though Shaz was telling everybody to give a tech a pat on the back in his subtle way, the Thrawnist was snickering softly.  He obviously had other things in mind.

The Commander continued.  "As you may have figured out by now, you will be flying an infiltration mission."  Shaz pushed another button which brought up a star chart.  "Intelligence has taken the liberty of transferring your 'Pirate Squadron' to a base on the fourth planet of the Kresov System.  The map zoomed to an image of the respected planet.  "There you will meet up with pilots in Tachurus Squadron, which also fly Y-Wing fighters.  This name may be familiar to some of you.  That is because Nazgul had encountered them a short while ago. Trevor also flew with it before he defected to our side.  I want to make this clear, they are not a bomber squadron.  They are known for playing vulnerable only to lure the opposition in to kill them...

(OCC:  I have to get off the computer in about ten minutes, so Trevor will have to finish the briefing.  I have been embellishing on what Trevor has told us so for, so some of the stuff I made up.  If anything doesn't work, Trevor, let me know so I can change it.  Oh yeah, sorry I didn't do this earlier.  Also, any comments made about Casca are for character development.)

(OOC/EDIT: I hope you don't mind Than, but I decied to make a few tiny little changes in your last paragraph there. Nothing big mind you, just that you used the wrong name for the squadron we are meeting with, and had a detail or two wrong with how Trevor is associated. Sorry for doing so before talking to you. Trevor)

Trevor took a seat in the front near the isle, knowing the he would shortly be called up again to explain the role that each member would be playing in Hussar Squadron. He leaned back in his seat next to Tokijin as he listening though. He also realized now that Jack was sitting not too far down from him, and gave him a quick wave before focusing once more on the briefing.

"Because of this, you'll have to be able to be just as good. From what Trevor has told me, Hussar Squadron and Tachurus Squadron worked closely together for quite a while, meaning that being able to infiltrate them should be easy. Acting like well trained pirates in a craft unfamiliar to you could be more difficult. In a moment I'll have Lieutenant Evenson return and explain your roles in this squadron, as well as the finer details about the craft you'll be flying." Commander Shazam explained as the screen behind him showed the mug shots of all those in the two squadrons. Trevor momentarily felt stupid about his own picture, but the feeling went away as he saw the pictures of some of the others.

"Before I do that though, I need to explain exactly why you are infiltrating this pirate group." Shazam continued, the screen once again changing to pictures of the few known pilots in the Tachurus group. Trevor recognized only a single face, the man who had been commander when he was flying with them in the NR. His name was Joel Corth, and was actually quite a compassionate and kind man when one compared him to the stereotypical pirate. He had soft green eyes and black hair worn in a similar style to Trevor's, and was clean-shaven as well. The other men appeared a bit scruffier, and Trevor was sure that by now they had replaced some of the other original members.

"Your objective is to find out who it was who hired this group of people to attack our shuttles over Dastoria when Nazgul was escorting them. You are to try and transmit as much evidence as possible back to Navy command, myself in particular. Recorded conversations, photographic evidence, even hard copies of written or digital payment or orders records." Shazam paused to take a sip of water from a clear plastic cup that was sitting on the edge of the stainless steal podium. "If we can use it to link them to anyone on Dastoria, your mission will be a success.

"On another note as a side objective, if you can warn us of any raids they plan to do on Vast Imperial shipping lanes we'd be grateful." Shazam said, checking his notes incase he had missed anything. "Aside from those who are joining your squadrons, who I see you've already met, I don't believe I have anything more. I'll now call Trevor and Than up here to explain in greater depth what has been planned for your undercover stuff." With this Shazam stepped back from the podium, taking his cup of water with him and making his way back to his wall. Than and Trevor rose and made their way to the front of the room where Trevor took the podium first.

"Alright, I think that first off I should give a little background as to what the whole Hussar thing is about. Originally, Hussar Squadron was a bomber squadron stationed on board the Neb-B Frigate Liberty. This version of the squadron was around during the Battle of Endor, and the Liberty was destroyed during a firefight with one of the Empire's star destroyers. Hussar squadron was almost destroyed, spare a few members and the squadron leader." Trevor paused to bring up a picture of a Trandosian, sneering as most of his species seemed to do. The yellow eyes and just as yellow teeth caused some of the crowd to make faces of disgust, but Trevor looked upon the picture with a reverence he hadn't felt in a while. The 'man' on the screen behind him had taught him all he knew about flying a Y-wing, and had flown with him until the bitter end.

"Following this, they were transferred to the planet Tachurus to aid the Tachurian police force to aid in countering Imperial attacks. They remained there for quite some time, including the time I was assigned to that squadron. I spent two years in it, and aside from that, not a lot more is needed to be known, except for how it became a pirate squadron." Trevor paused and took a sip from a cup that Than handed him. He set the cup down and took a deep breath before he continued. "After a disagreement with a seemingly corrupt NR official, both Hussar and Tachurus squadrons defected, bringing with them their fighters and a small fleet of corvette-class ships. The pirating career began shortly after this."

Trevor stood for a moment and considered his next words carefully. It wasn't anything that would damage either squadron if he worded it badly, but he wanted them to understand the first time around. He hated to have to explain things more than once.

"We'll be impersonating Hussar Squadron. Originally it only had fifteen people, but I believe there is nineteen of us in Kaph and Nazgul combined. We have someone from another squadron joining us who was the only other original member of the Hussars, rounding us to an even twenty." Trevor said as a photo of 'Reaper' showed on the screen. The man was really Krey Quel'don and was one of Trevor's oldest friends who had originally flown with him in Hussar Squadron. "Because of this, it is not safe for us to use our real names. You are each being presented with a folder, and in this folder are your new personal details. Name, age, marital status, home world, ex cetera."

Trevor watched as a pair of protocol droids began handing out the folders to their assigned owners. Only he, Krey and Than were going to be keeping their original names.

"Memorize it, learn it, and get used to being called by it. Your callsign is also in there. In Hussar squadron we did use 'Hussar One' and 'Hussar Two' and so forth, but normally we'd just call each other by a preferred callsign. That's how things will be this time too." Trevor said, checking his own notes that were sitting on the podium underneath Shazam's. Believing he had covered everything that he had to say, he stepped back out of the way so Than could give his end of the assignment.

*** After Than Finished ***

Trevor and Than exchanged glances and stepped down from the podium, each returning to their respective seats. Shazam re-took the stand and looked back and forth across the group, contemplating the task he was giving them. He knew very well that many of the pilots were quite capable of what they were being asked, but some of these pilots only had academy experience under their belts. While this was helpful, when it came to something as big as this as their very first mission, normally they would not be expected to do well.

"Alright. You guys don't get shipped out until one week from now, which means that you have time to train. And I highly suggest you do this. The Y-wings will be available for you to use during your practice, as well as our simulator units. Trevor and Krey will both be available to practice with, so I advise you all to try your luck against either of them at some point before you leave." Shazam began, his ever-present cup of water held tightly in his hand. He looked as if he was about to wrap things up, people had even started to get out of their seats, when a look came over his face showing that he had just remembered something.

"I almost forgot. For this mission, Trevor is going to be Hussar SC, and Than will be XO. Although both squadron's have their own individual XOs, we felt it would work better if each squadron leader played a major part in this squadron. This is not to say that you don't take orders from your respective XO during this mission, because you do. They just have to be careful what they do while in the presence of Tachurus." Shazam said, wrapping up his briefing. It had been one of the longer ones Trevor had been to, but it was possible that he only felt that because he had had to speak.

"Dismissed!" Shazam said loudly, and the group of pilots didn't cheer or shout or jump. Most of them just rose and exited the room, chatting among themselves. A few stayed back and sat in their seats, where they would remain for the next five minutes or so until a cleaning tech or a droid hurried them out for the next group who needed the room. Trevor quickly told Tokijin he'd be with her in a minute and turned quickly to grab Than by the shoulder while Toki went off to chat with Skylla.

"I'm thinking we could have those drinks around 21:00, if that's alright with you and your boys." Trevor said, referring to the drinks he now owed Kaph squadron. Than thought for a moment before he replied.

"Sounds fine to me. Meet us in the regular cantina and don't be late. I'll have a lot of thirst men and women and a Wookie for you to buy drinks for." Than laughed as he slapped Trevor on the shoulder and followed the rest of Kaph who were leaving out the door. Trevor made his way back to Tokijin and sat down where she was.

"So what code name and everything did you get?" He asked. Even he had only been able to see a certain few codenames, and he hadn't been privy to Toki's. He looked at her with a questioning look and awaited his answer.

OOC: All right. For the code names and call signs and all that new information you got in the file folders, make up whatever you want. You're being given a bit of freedom on this, so feel free to take advantage of it. Aside from this, we've got about a week to kill (probably a week in real life, unless things move along quite fast. I have some school stuff next week, but we'll see what Than has planned). Good work so far everyone, let's keep it up until ESC starts (which might be next week, I can't remember)

The young wookie pilot listened intently as first the Nazgul commander and then Shazam made their respective breifings.

This seemed to be a most difficult second mission for Etan. Etan hadn't even imagined anything like this. Infiltrating the NR? Assuming new identities and flying Y-wings? Had the Imperial Navy gone mad? How were we, simple Tie fighter pilots, to pull off such a feat? This was madness for most. Etan, during his elustrious career a a pirate had flown a Y-wing. It was known that Mr. Evenson, their current commander in this mad mission, has flown Y-wings. But, how many other pilots could be counted on to fly such a particular craft. The breifing was at an end while the various pilots broke up leaving the room. Some broke up into pairs or groups making there way out of the breifing room. Cy looked up at Etan stating that he had further breifings to attend due to the nature of the mission. Having had Cy's guidance since the first days of Etan's academy, the oversized pilot understood. Without further being said, Cy followed the rest of the command group, while Etan looked for a friend.

As the combined pilots of Kaph and Nazgul filed out of the room, Etan caught the eye of Casca. The large Wookie made his way through the crowd until he stood side by side with his old friend.

Casca, being very fluent in Wookie, asked " So how's the Kaph treating you? You oversized furball..." Etan, responding in his wookie way, " Okay, I guess. But, I'm concerned about this new mission. Besides me, you and a few select others, how many pilots do you really think will make the cut, and will there be enough of us to fly the mission? You do know, of course, your Commander Evenson and my own Commander Than wouldn't jeopardize this mission by putting anyone not qualified into a Y-wing, I hope." " Of course they wouldn't, you worry bag of fur." Casca replied not too assuredly.

"Hey, let's the two of us go have a nice time in the lounge, drink to something and find us a couple of companions for the night and forget about all this Y-wing stuff for now. Whadda you say ole buddy? We got a week to think about all this." Casca furthered.

Etan couldn't resist an offer like that. He grinned a grin that only a wookie could grin and only a friend would know. To most others, it might seem that he was going to bite their face off. But, Casca knew him better than that. For now, the mission was forgotten as two old friends celebrated being alive and together, for now.

And so the two talked on long into the night. It seems they had more catching up to do than at first was thought and that the mission wasn't forgotten. All the time Etan kept the folder he was given at the meeting in a satchel that hung by his side. He would open it later.

** Back in Nazgul's Mess Hall **

Tomas continued to sit and nibble his way through breakfast. As had become the routine as of late. When he wasn't sleeping, in the sims, at a meeting, or some other required squadron activity Tomas had been buried deep in self-reflection trying to figure out where it all had gone wrong. He knew it wasn't exactly the best thing for him, dwelling on the past and all, but he couldn't help it...even given such a short time with his previous flightmates, he had managed to get himself enough involved that he felt it was his responsibility to keep them alive and able to fight another day. And so far, he had failed to do that.

Tomas was shaken from his thoughts once again as he noticed the rest of the squadron one by one rise from their seats. It seemed breakfast had ended and the time had come to head over Kaph's rec room. He had seen these guys around the ship from time to time and in various meetings, but had never really interacted with any of them previously. Judging from the sounds of things though, that would all change real soon.

** At Kaph's Rec Room **

Stepping into the room with his fellow squadronmates, Tomas couldn't help but take a second look at the Kaph pilots. Sure he had seen them in meetings, but to see the zabrak and the wookiee (accompanied by his protocol droid) was still a bit unusual. Tomas had nothing against it, he just hadn't had much contact with many other races through his years in this sort of setting.

This "meeting" of the squadrons was threatening to be a tense time for Tomas. He got along with people no problem, he just generally wasn't the one to do the approaching and those who met him found him to be much more of a listener...and one who actually listened to them at that. Tomas was the kind of person who opened up eventually, but it took time...time that he'd been finding didn't really exist these days.

"Tomas, sir. Over here." Sol called out from across the room, waving Tomas over in the process. Joining the circle, Tomas found three Kaph pilots waiting with extended hands. One by one they introduced themselves...Strangler, interesting name...Cyleaf...ah, didn't quite catch that last name. Almost instantly the others fell into a decent conversation, the three Kaphs talking amongst themselves with Sol giving his occasional input and Tomas sat back and did what he does best.

A few minutes had past when their conversation fell dead as a young woman stepped into the room and matter-of-factly announced her presence with a general greeting. Perhaps a little louder than she intended, but then again perhaps not. She was definitely different than the other female pilots Tomas had seen around here. Her blue hair contrasting her pale complexion in its own unique way.  Tomas watched briefly as she approached Trevor and seemed to strike up conversation. Hm, it seems they know each other from somewhere or another. Judging from the height difference between the two, Tomas could tell she was definitely taller than the other women (and even a few of the men) who had been in the squadron previously. Tomas' initial wingmate, Carly had appeared tiny next to Trevor. This new woman did as well, though not nearly as drastic. Tomas decided it was time to turn his attention back to the circle, where the conversation had once again picked up in its previous fashion.

"Mind if I borrow you, and Tom?" Tomas heard the familiar voice of Trevor say nearby. Looking over his shoulder, he found Trevor standing behind him with the woman by his side.
"Yes Commander?" he asked, glancing at the woman slightly captivated by her blue hair now that he could see it up close.

"This is Tokijin. She used to be in Nazgul before the two of you showed up, and she's going to be flying with us again. At least, I assume that's why you're back Toki." Trevor replied.

"Yeah, I'm back for now." Tokijin said with a smile, meeting Tomas' hand half way and shaking it firmly. "I'm Tokijin, but everyone calls me Toki or Toks. I heard your name was Tom, but I don't know yours." She said as she let released her grip and turned to look at Sol.

"I'm Sol," he replied before turning to address Trevor. "How long till the briefing?"

"About 15 minutes. We're going to be leaving right away," Trevor said with a nod and with that the two of them went back the way they came leaving Sol and Tomas to once again resume their conversation with the Kaph pilots. The rest of the conversation seemed a blur to Tomas and passed by uneventfully, before he decided it was time he head towards the briefing room...

Before the Meeting

Casca looked down the hall to see Nazgul and Kaph approaching the meeting room and was glad to have at least beaten them to the briefing, still chastising himself for being late and ignoring the fact that he may very well have a serious concussion.

The Present

"I just wanted to clear up those points," continued Trevor. "So now I'll stop wasting Commander Shazam's time and let him give us the briefing." Casca looked over to see Commander Shazam, Wing Commander of Phoenix Wing. Wing Commander, that was the position Casca strove for. Indeed he was envious of the officer who had attained the job Casca wanted his entire life. If he hadn't remembered his setting, he may have drooled over the rank plate on Commander Shazam's uniform.

As the Commander approached the squadron's, Casca saw Tomas once again shoot up from his seat, only this time, Casca was too busy envying Commander Shazam to think and had to settle for second to attention. The commander gave the casual wave, motioning for them to sit back down. "No need for that, men, we don't want formalities to distract us from the point at hand," explained Shazam in his usual assertive tone. Casca was infuriated inside. Even as Wing Adjutant, he demanded all three squadrons in the 75th stand erect when he entered the room. "Now then, let's get on with it."

Casca took his eyes off the Wing Commander only once, to examine his Squadron commander who had taken a seat between Kaph and Nazgul Squadron. The main holo display would flicker and come to life. It showed an image of a Y-Wing. Casca made a noise of disgust and imagined a cross hair around the rebel scum boat.

"There was some complaining from some of you about the fact that you will be flying Y-Wings. You are all so used to flying fighters that you feel that a conventional bomber is somewhat beneath you. Considering the nature of the mission, you won't be using the bomber function of the Y-Wings much." Casca cursed in his head. Beneath? By FAR! Even a conventional bomber would be better that that...LOOK at it. There is kriffing astromech option for Emperor's sake. Who in kriff's holy name would need an astromech?

"The fighters in question were captured three months ago during a raid of an NR outpost on the outskirts of the unknown region. The assault turned out to be more effective then we thought, the NR forces fled after a short fight. Among other useful things left behind were these fighters." Wow, a base in the unknown and some kriffing trash heaps. No wonder they fled. They were happy for you to take them off their hands.

"They were originally armed with a payload of bombs," It is a flying bomb..., "but our fine mechanics," HA, "modified the bombers to hold a payload of 10 concussion missiles," For rapid self destruction. "They also worked very hard on the temperamental birds so that they will be ready for you all when the time comes for the operation." Casca chuckled and thought of how many problems he would find in them in just the first round of checks. He planned out a long list of demands for the tech monkeys in his head.

"We'll be impersonating Hussar Squadron. Originally it only had fifteen people, but I believe there is nineteen of us in Kaph and Nazgul combined.  We have someone from another squadron joining us who was the only other original member of the Hussars, rounding us to an even twenty.  Because of this, it is not safe for us to use our real names.  You are each being presented with a folder, and in this folder are your new personal details.  Name, age, marital status, home world, ex cetera."

Casca received his folder first, then Tomas since he was sitting on the edge. He opened his folder and looked down...Malkav Kadrommel, 32, married, Correlia. "Memorize it, learn it, and get used to being called by it. Your call sign is also in there. In Hussar squadron we did use 'Hussar One' and 'Hussar Two' and so forth, but normally we'd just call each other by a preferred callsign. That's how things will be this time too."

Casca checked his call sign...Steel?

"Dismissed!"  Commander Shazam said as the squadrons began to file out of the briefing room.  Casca tucked his folder under his borrowed data pad and turned to the door.  That was when he noticed something about the Wookie Kaph pilot that he hadn't before, the ruffle in his fur.

"Etan Evnstar, how's the Kaph treating you, you oversized furball..." and yes it was very odd to see the human speaking wookie, but Casca was always direct and did not wait for another sentient to decipher his Basic.  Casca crossed his arms as he stood, "I see you still have that protocol droid.  C3PWO I remember, we had him stripped and searched when I met you. You still have that restraining bolt spot on your plating I see."

"Indeed I do.  I say master, is this Lieutenant Phennir from Chorma V?  I say he has changed, and I failed to recognize him since his bio had been archived in my system."  The droid blinked its photoreceptors.

"It's been that long?" Casca stated. A few of Phoenix Wing's pilots had to stop and wonder at Casca's change in demeanor toward Crewman Evenstar.  Casca had always been such an emotionless stiff to everyone, and he had only talked to Mr. Dagoram directly before this conversation in Wookie.  Casca was comfortable speaking less bitter since next to no one would be able to understand the language in which they converse.

Etan growled in response, "Okay, I guess. But, I'm concerned about this new mission. Besides me, you and a few select others, how many pilots do you really think will make the cut, and will there be enough of us to fly the mission? You do know, of course, Commander Evenson and our own Commander Than wouldn't jeopardize this mission by putting anyone not qualified into a Y-wing, I hope."

"Ha, I hope they wouldn't, fur-bag, but I thought the same thing...I may be a recruit, but I was a kriffing Major in the Empire. I have the resume to back me up. These look like they couldn't handle more than a sky hopper on a low traffic planet like Chorma!  Do you know Thrawn withdrew from the Chorma Sector.  Shame, and now it has fallen to war," Casca replied.  "Hey, let's the two of us get drinks, you have a nice tankard of Corellian ale and I'll have a mug of extract. Maybe find you a couple of companions for the night to forget about all this Y-wing stuff for now. Whadda you say ole buddy?" Casca said.

"No ale for you? AND NO WOMEN, I remember you to be quite the ladies' man," Etan asked before stretching his hairy arms.

"No, no time for the females lately, and you know I don't drink unless there is a promotion involved...or a medal." Casca laughed as the two left the breifing room and headed for the cantina.  Casca really didn't feel like hitting the bar, but being the good freind Etan was, this was an exception.  Etan had saved Casca's job during a patrol in the Chorma system, and they had immediately become friends. Casca valued his job above everything. If only Casca knew Etan's affiliation with Raigen...well maybe it's better he didn't.

The two entered the cantina still talking about old times with the protocal droid following behind slowly.  The pair took a seat next to a Stormtrooper and an army trooper in a pissing match over who was a better shot with a blaster.  Before long, a fist fight broke out.  The army trooper ducked, and Casca found himself with a white clad fist coming his way.  He grabbed the punch and twisted until the bumbling drunk was on the ground in a police hold.  Etan joined in, lifting the army trooper off the ground by his collar.

Within minutes, COMPVEMP forces arrived to arrest and book the two drunks.  The white uniformed lieutenant leading the detachment stopped to adress Casca, "I know you, I was on the SD that answered your distress transmission, oversaw the searching and inspecting of that corvette you piloted to safty.  And you wookie...thank you.  If it weren't for you, this would have escalated real quick.  I'll make sure the guard who worked this shift is jetisoned off the port bow...so to speak."

The lieutenant turned to leave before facing Casca again, "Your're not too bad in a fight.  Maybe shape up those skills and there will be a nice job in COMPVEMP for you." The lieutenant nodded and exited the cantina. Casca picked up a mug of guran bean extract and began to sip the hot brown liquid as the wookie ordered a large glass of fine ale. "What do you think about these pilots, furry?"

"Tell me what you know about Nazgul and I'll fill in gaps."

"Trevor Evenson, skilled. Damn skilled, better than me perhaps. Darius, Ridly Vandate, Larith, Tokijin, I've never seen them fly. Dagoram is good. Ensign Henderson was good before he left. Crewman Cael, dead. Two others I think crashed in the last mission. Never seen this Kharr character fly either.  But seriously, a whole flight was grounded last mission!"

"Kaph is good, I don't know too much. I've been doing freelance stuff and haven't seen too much. Had a problem on a salvage mission, ran into two Corellian capital ships chock full of NR."

"Ouch, but you survived." Casca said, raising his mug in a thankful jesture.

"But they didn't. Horrible soldiers, NR. The guy I was working for ended up with both the ships. Another team ended up finishing the salvage.  We are hitting the Chorma system soon to find some lost transports."

"Listen, I've been doing research. Trying to dig my way in here so I can move up quick. I was wondering if I couldn't borrow old bag`o`bolts for a while." Casca said as he finished his drink.

"Sure, just make sure he comes back with all his arms in the right place this time." Etan growled sarcastically, "My freelance employer needs a copy of his personality matrix and his harddrive though. Gonna put it in an astromech for capital ship work. Can't afford to man the ship completly. I don't understand why he would want it in an astromech."

"Promise."

Suddenly, time stood still for Etan. A wash of thoughts from times passed by entered his mind. Thoughts of piracy, New Republic and Imperial check teams. Y wings, Tie fighters, and smuggler's ships all passed though his thoughts. Friends of days gone by and friends of the present. Mind conditioning, enlisting in the Imperial Navy, becoming a part of a whole, where once he was one. These were the types of things that entered Etan's mind, but at a hundred fold times what is written here.

As the thoughts, crossed his mind, he watched his friend Casca slowly pointing towards another part of the lounge. Etan's head slowly turned, trying to keep up with what was being said, but it was of no use. The group of females Casca was pointing to, were exiting the bar faster than Etan could follow. The last thing Etan really remembered was lending C3Pwo to Casca, as a favor.

C3Pwo. He and a Y-wing, were all the legacy that his father had left him. Etan's father was known to be a wookie General during the Clone Wars. C3Pwo was a handy-down of his.

//C3Pwo bios//

It is known that C3Pwo served during the Clone Wars. What is not known, is everything he ever knew. It is said that he was built, before the Clone Wars by a now famous Jedi Warrior. But, since his memory has been swiped on several occasions, that can not be substantiated.

He is a protocol droid. His profficiancy is much substantiated. He earned the designation wo in recent years. C3Pwo means, C3P unit with out prior knowledge of what he has done before. It is estimated that he is at least two-hundred years old and will live on well into the thousands, properly maintained.

His memory can be swiped, and, he can be programmed to serve anyone. Currently, he is at Etan's command.

When Etan was six and New Republic troops were searching his uncle's ship for guns being run to the Hutt's, it was C3Pwo that taught Etan to cry like a baby. To soon, the inspectors became tired of the young wookies wailing. They departed the ship before finding a sickle.

When Etan grew older, it was C3Pwo that taught him how to communicate with the ruthless Hutts, to gain the upper hand. C3Pwo was more than a friend to the young wookie, he became a nanny. When Etan was , not just captured, but, sequestered into the Imperial Navy, it was C3Pwo, that followed him and gave him guidance.

It wasn't a wonder to many as to why C3Pwo was Etan's best of friends.

//NOW//

Casca slapped his hand down upon the table several times. " Wake up ole buddy " Etan snapped to. He hadn't realized the deepness he was in. Looking around, Etan saw that the lounge had cleared. Only he, Casca, C3Pwo and the bartender remained.
Etan stood to attention, as if he dwelt in another world. " Be kind to the droid. " Etan said as he turned towards the exit leaving Casca with a look of worry. As Etan reached the exit, he turned towards Casca acting like a zombie. " Don't try to be in my flight ole friend, I don't want our fate to be the same."

With that being said, Etan exited the lounge to retire to Kaph quarters. And, with a fog in his mind, Etan fell fast asleep, dreaming of other places and other times.
