I'd like to be the first to officially welcome Jaden, Demonic and Cyleaf to the VENA-S. I find it more than awesome that people are willing to help here and like to get things moving. I'd like to present some info to you guys though, just so we can all be on the right track from the beginning. First off, just because its kind of cool, and we can refer to it and be reminded by it before we go off and do something stupid, the VENA-S has a creed to uphold than none of us are allowed to forget:

As a member of the Vast Empire Naval Academy Staff (VENA-S), I will do all in my power to inform to the greatest degree our novice members so that they may, in fact, become the best of the best- the elite. No longer will they be thought of as a 'noob', nor should they be seen as a new recruit, but a full-fledged fighter pilot with all the respect they deserve. It is because of I and my colleagues that they become this way. I will not deal recruits out of personal dispositions, but out of contemporary fact in the hopes they will be able to understand what it is to be a VEN Pilot. It is my duty to train, not tamper or become temperamental because of my own inabilities or short-comings: I will do just as I have been assigned and will admit when I am of no use any longer. From there, I will show my student the correct person to correspond with so that they might accomplish their goals. I know all about what it is I do, and I will not fail anyone simply because I mean to: there is no failure in the eyes of a student who sees we have done all we can. We do not give up- we are the VENA Staff.

A few things I'd like to point out in there- we aren't allowed to get angry people. We may become frustrated but our primary goal here isn't to get people through as fast as possible, but as efficiently as possible. That means they get through learning what they need to learn but as fast as possible- our goal isn't just speed: we need to be accomplishing something by putting these recruits through. And, whatever you do, don't snap on a recruit- by all means, snap on me if you must, preferably in private so we can remain professional, but under no circumstances will I allow any one in my staff to start or pick a fight with anyone. If someone tries to start something with you- don't be baited. Let them know their primary concern is to get through here so they can truly enjoy themselves, but don't go attacking people- that's going to get you a sharp warning automatically, but its also grounds for dismissal. Yes, the staff is supposed to be fun, but we've got a job to do, guys.

Also- don't be too disappointed if you're not talkin to people right away or it doesn't seem like there's many recruits coming through- that'll happen all the time. On the other hand, there'll be times where it seems we can't keep up with the paper work around here. Mind you, its also a part of being in the staff- someone will pick up things you don't do right away. The overall goal isn't to do the most, but to keep things running the smoothest- thus the staff. I can tell you right now I'd be about a week behind if you guys weren't helping me!

A fine note actually- I'd like to keep tabs on exactly what everyone's accomplished around here. Call me anal retentive, but I like to have things on record. So, in your reports, I'd like to know everything you've done here- which shouldn't be too much this week. That means, if you answered a question or got the first response on a new recruit- whatever. If you don't include it- it didn't happen :>

One last note- how should you make an intro? The idea is to not confuse the recruit, basically. If you give them multiple links, be very clean cut and organized- I thought your opening post was a bit sloppy, Cyleaf- we can get that better. Basically, separate paragraphs very clearly, speak in a fluid tone so that they aren't going to trip over your words, and be encouraging. Also, only one person needs to make the introduction, otherwise you'll breed confusion once again over who's the trainer and who's supposed to be taking care of who. However, you can certainly introduce yourselves and your jobs to the recruit if you so wish.

One thing I'd like you guys to start including is the 'VENA-S' page link. Let them know that's where everyone's information is, and let them know you'll be in the room 'VENA' on the vastempire server "irc.fossiltechnology.net" .  Oh, and does everyone have the VENA-S e-mail and password?  I'm going to get all the join applications sent there from now on, so that'll need to be checked.

I think that's about all I have for notes this week, but lets post the reports on this thread- does that sound okay? I just want to get a working system for us. Any thoughts?

A few things about intro and the general things that need to be done every day in the VENA-S:

I've devised that every intro should include a warm welcome- I think we've got that down pretty well though.  However, I think we need to start reminding people of the fact that this is a competitive class and that they're always in competition with the other recruits.  Also, certain website or information should always be included, like that of the link for the VENA-S.  Below is a intro I've made recently that I think includes just about everything we should give:

Howdy there- I'm the training officer (TO) of the Vast Empire Naval Academy (VENA).  Our staff, the VENA-S, is composed of trainers and operators, all who can be seen at the following website:

Now that you've posted here on the ComNet, you've actually completed the Imperial Initiation (II) phase of Basic Traing (BT).  BT's second phase is called Flight School (FS), which is made up of three chapters and an exam.  The first chapter, and probably the most important aspect of our system, is that of Character Creation- the bio.  In order for your character to exist in our club, our universe if you will, you need to create them in written form, detailing their stories, their personalities and the physcial aspects that we may be aware of with a glance or perhaps things we can not see with the naked eye.  Either way, you're going to tell us how to describe you're character in a more detailed fashion than you're probably used to, but that's part of the fun.

Really, the bio is a tool- think of it as the essential form of telling someone what you're character is like.  When someone in you're squadron is wanting to know what you're eye color was again or what that abandoned planet was your character was born on- where are they going to look?  SO- this is a source of all knowledge on your character, a resevoir of important info.  Eventually, you're bio will contain other important facts about you, the member of the Vast Empire Navy, like rank, medals, commendations and other certificates.

So, if you'll follow the link below, you'll be able to see the entirety of Flight School, the portion of BT I was referring to above.  BT is, essentially, training and thus, once you've passed through it, you're going to be placed in an Active Squadron, in 'Active Duty'.  On the other hand, during training, you're actually a part of a Training Squadron- this squadron is known as 'Venom Squadron.'  During you're time here you will need to make at least one report out to the squadron commander and XO- Jaden.  Jaden is also the TX, so it shouldn't be too difficult to pinpoint him.

Also, depending on how well you do here against the recruits currently training, you'll receive a rank at the end of your training and receive certain recommendations or promotions.  On the Sunday of your completion of BT, you will have a graduation ceremony with you're fellow recruits and rewards and the like will be handed out.  Note though, only the strong and studious will make it that far, though I don't think any of our activities are too overwhelming, just difficult at first to get used to. 

So, You'll want to go to Chapter 1- Character Development first where you'll create a bio.  Just remember that in the course of your training sometime, preferably before the end of the week and before you're graduation ceremony, you'll have to make a report.  So, lets get off to a good start and get you goin- Rock On!

So- that's what an opening might look like with all the included info.  A bit longwinded perhaps, but that's just my style of writing.  I suppose its important also that we try and keep these to a minimum to avoid confusion or boredom with the training program and our recruits

One last note: if we post on something for a recruit or give them information- tell them that you did it.  That means that if you posted an intro on some recruit's thread, please message them saying that you did so they'll remember and come back right away, or atleast they'll know and won't be apprehensive about it.  Indicate who you've done that with on your reports and in here so that someone doesn't do the same thing twice.  That brings about another good point-

Don't say the same thing twice   Like if an operator makes an intro, don't tell the recruit the same thing over again just because you want to say something.  Introduce yourselve by all means, but lets keep the confusion to a minimum.  Also- make sure you're checking the VENA-S e-mail: that's where recruits will be asking questions and whatnot outside the message system and join apps are getting sent there.

I'll be gone tomarrow (Monday) guys, so I'll need you to step it up and check the VENA-S e-mail and send out messages to anyone who joins and doesn't make a topic in the VENA ComNet.  Make sure to post that you've done it here first and check here first to make sure that someone doesn't get the same message from fifty people.

Also, I'd like you guys to comment on some of the bios if you'd like to or find it conveniant- I find it helps recruits to socialize a bit more when they have a wider base of trainers and people helping out.  Keep up the good work and lets get some people through the squadrons that need 'em- COMMONEY YAY HA!

Cyleaf- great job sending out those messages.  They've certainly yielded some important results aimed primarilly at the idea you just identified.

Activities:  I've gone to every topic where I was needed to correct or move people on, though I'd like to direct everyone's attention to this little fact:

Both Operators and Trainers can move people on from Chapter 2 "Pilot Procedure."  They simply need to make sure that it has been done and they're on the right track.  Trainers actually critique and what not, but an Operator can say "Yea, you're on the right track, go to Chapter 3 now while someone gets back to you..."

Good initiative Cyleaf; it appears to have worked as well.  I read your welcome message btw in the sent folder- good.  However, I'd like you to make sure you've got proper puncation and spelling before you let off one of those letters so that we make an excellent first impression on these guys: other than that it's excellent.

And I suppose what I was going for with reports is that you indicate what you've already done here so that no one does the same thing again- if you'd like to make a report through message center or e-mail that's fine too.  However, if you'd like to just make one here you can save yourself some time and better inform the rest of the group

Alright boys- I'm fallen on hard times here: my internet is barelly functioning and time is still short so I'm going to be away.  Never the less- that's why you guys are here

Effective immedietly I'm granting emergency powers to Jaden for pilot placement- also: pilots will only have to go through Chapter 2, then they will be placed in a squadron: is that understood?  The Aviator's Exam will be taken during the first week out of training and in a squadron while the two post are done via actual stories- that's for now at least.  Any questions: report them to Jaden who can get in touch with me if necessary.  I'll do my best to be here everday but I can't guarentee everything.  Also- everyone be notifying recruits when you leave a message for them
