The following is to be used for reference in the Vast Empire Naval Academy.  Those in Basic Training or taking Intermediate and/or Advanced courses may take this topic into account when looking for proper addresses and correct information to correlate their studies.  This topic will be continuously edited to fit the ever changing Naval Academy- only Naval Hich Command may do so.

First Edit Date: August 5th, 2006 - (Introduction post is created as well as post on Basic Training)
Second Edit Date: Septembe 30th, 2006 -  (The List is Added to intro post.)

Operator's and Trainers:

In the Vast Empire Naval Academy, there are those who learn and then those who do the teaching.  Although you may not be a part of the High Staff (Naval Commander and Cheif, Training Commander and Training Executive Officer), you could still be a part of the VENA by taking up a position on the staff.  For most, that position will be an operator- a person who hangs around on the comnet, IRC and whatever other media they can so that new recruits or those taking courses in the VENA can get in contact with someone who can help immedietly.  They must be well versed in the VENA curriculum and content so that they can easilly point these new minds to the right information.  Trainers on the other hand are even better versed and must be fulfill a series of task before being given their position on the VENA staff.  Applications are acceptable at all times.  The information on Trainers and Operator's is below:

---

"The List" below entails anything and everything anyone would ever do involved with the VENA: It fits absolutely everything.  There is quite literally nothing not included here- materials to be read, assignments and the course and curriculum itself is fully explained.

I.  First Joining - Basic Training (BT)
    A.  Imperial Initiation (II)
      1.  Introduction (The Pilot introduces themselves in the
ComNet and asks to be trained)

    B.  Flight School (FS) - (This sections duty is to introduce
the new member to elements of the VE they may be unfamiliar
with, or more specifically - Naval Information.)

      1.  Chapter 1 - "Character Creation"  (Perhaps the most
important section of all three, this sets the base of the
recruit's character and the person they'll be writing about their
      entire career.)

        a.  Character Development - reading material
        b.  Create Character Biography and Avatar -
        Assignment
      2.  Chapter 2 - "Pilot Procedure" (This section entails the
basics of Fighter Combat- Equipment and Tactic.  This is just
to get a base of knowledge that we can work from so the
pilot isn't totally in the dark for their first post.)

        a.  Equipment Training
          i.  Imperial Person - reading material
ii.  TIE Interceptor - reading material
iii.  The Cockpit - reading material
        b.  Tactical Training
          i.  Opening Page of "Tactical Training" - reading
          material

ii.  Defensive and Offensive Maneuvers - reading
          material

        c.  Write about two tactics in one's own words -
        Assignment
      3.  Chapter 3 - "The Squadron"  (Here the pilot learns
about how to create a report, function in a squadron and
make story posts- this is essential for success in our
      squadrons.)

        a.  The Squadron - reading material
        b.  The Posts - reading material
        c.  At least one report in this time - Assignment
      4.  Aviator's Exam (AE) - Receive the Aviator's Certificate
(=A=) and a promotion to Leading Crewman (LCRW) is
given.  If the pilot passed with distinction, they can receive
the rank of Senior Crewman (LCRW), and if there are at least
three people in the graduating class and they're number one,
its also possible to be promoted to Petty Officer 2nd Class
      (PO2)
      5.  The Ceremony - Every Sunday, at meeting time (usually
about 3:00 Central Time), the pilots are brought up during
the VENA portion of the Navy report and the pilots are
rewarded for their excellent work in their training and given a
position in a squadron.  (This further strengthens pilots'
resolve to do better and helps them to realize they're a big
      deal.)

II.  Significant Positions -  Intermediate Courses (This is
usually seen as the first step to real advancement.  After the pilot
has proven that he or she can be pretty active and responsible,
they're put to the test by coordinating a group of their own.
These tests are to exam if they know how to do so.)

    A.  Senior Aviator's Exam (Petty Officer 2nd Class to Chief
    Petty Officer)
      1.  Flight Lead Training (FLT) reading material
      2.  Senior Aviator's Exam (SAE) - receive the Senior Aviator's
Certificate (=SA=): Qualified to be a Flight Lead
    B.  Road to the Master Aviator's Exam (Must have taken and
passed both AE and SAE) (This is where it gets heavy.  It
looks like a lot of material, but considering they're all about a
page or two long and you have roughly six months to read it
all- not nearly as bad as they think.  Its important that they
realize that they have this long to complete them and they're
being pushed to continue their training and understanding.
Once this stuff is out of the way they've basically been through
our manuals and know all they need to know for a long
    time.

      1.  Technical Exams (TE)
        a.  Equipment Exam (ee)
          i.  Imperial Pilot's Person - reading material
ii.  Imperial Fighters - reading material
iii.  Imperial Fighters 2 - reading material
iv.  TIE Class Fighters - reading material
          v.  The Cockpit - reading material
vi.  New Republic Fighters - reading material
vii.  Pirate Fighters - reading material
viii.  Base of Operations - reading material
        b.  Tactical Test (tt)
          i.  Tactical Training - reading material
ii.  One vs One - reading material
iii.  One vs Many - reading material
iv.  The Element - reading material
          v.  Flight vs - reading material
vi.  Ship Engagement - reading material
vii.  Defensive and Offensive - reading material
      2.  Leadership Exams (LE)  (These delve into what the
pilot has to offer in terms of leadership- what does it matter
how much they know if they can't lead a group?  They need
to realize they're responsible for their group now and that
they need to treat everyone with respect.)

        a.  Internship
        b.  Problem Solving Exam
          i.  Executive Officer Training (EOT) - reading
          material

      3.  The Master Aviator's Exam (Must have attained the rank
of Warrant Officer 2nd Class -
Receive the Master Aviator's Certificate (=MA=):
Qualified to be an Executive Officer or leave you're group
      and pursue other careers
III.  Careers and Internships (This is where the pilots become
more than just pilots.  Below are the three roads of travel that are
able to be traveled and the basics they must go through in order
to achieve position.)

    A.  Squadron Commander
      1.  Intern
      2.  Time in SAS at least once
      3.  FOCE (Officer's Exam)
    B.  Ship Commander
      1.  Intern
      2.  Time aboard ship
      3.  SCE (Ship Captain's Exam)
    C.  VENA-HS Member
      1.  Intern - Time as a Trainer
      2.  Time as a TM
      3.  Certification and Ceremony

Academy Operaters may reference this for new recruits or any in need of basic course curriculum.  This means that this isn't the actual page to send new recruits to for training- quite the opposite in fact.  Operators and Trainers are to use this as a homebase for rules and regulations and as an easy access for general information in training.  The information below will look confusing to anyone unfamilier with the club or more specifically the VENA, so this is only a reference.  The operaters and trainers must write on the threads or speak with the recruits via messaging in order to guide and direct them.  This is only an easy access- don't think of it as a user friendly source for information.  Think of this as a guide to the real guide- this is the Operater's Manual.

Basic Training

As a new recruit of the Vast Empire Navy (VEN), the pilots are automatically placed in "Basic Training" or (BT).  This is a course in the Vast Empire Naval Academy (VENA).  In the literal fashion, one must complete (BT) in order to be placed in an active squadron within the VEN.  However, while in training, they are placed in a training group known as 'Venom Squadron.'  This is so that they will be able to communicate amongst themselves and get a feel for what a squadron is like before actually being placed in one.  This is not to be confused with the training squadron's their characters are to be assigned to, such as Desus Squadron or Lason.  When in Basic Training, the main set of continuous confusion lies in the line between what is to be said of their characters and the pilots themselves.  As an operator or trainer (officials granted a license by the NHC to train or provide information to those studying in the VENA), it is their job to provide that line and make it understandable to those they are working with.

BT consist of two phases- Imperial Initiation (II) and Flight School (FS).  Imperial Initiation occurs when the pilot receives the opening letter and decides to make a thread on the Naval Academy ComNet.  Thus, the real challenge occurs in completing FS.  All of this information can be pulled from the main website -

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Naval_Academy

The Official Page for Basic Training is:

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Basic_Training

Since the new pilot will be spending the majority of their time in Flight School, it would be best to keep the following link under a close, careful eye-

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Flight_School_%28FS%29

(All of these will be changed into hypertext soon, and most of the links will be changed to those on the official site that is to be built- fulfillment of the entire curriculum and necessary materials comes first though.)

The first step in Flight School is to actually create a character though- thus, one must go to the Flight School link and find Chapter 1: Character Creation.  Here they need to read through all the material and provide a bio upon completion.  This is only a first draft though and where the Trainers come in.  The trainer critiques, although operators are more than welcome to as well, the draft and is the official that says when its okay to move on and also gives the grading to the VENA High Staff for graduating purposes.

Character Creation Page is as follows:

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Character_Development

Now we're back to the operators who guide our new recruits through the Academy.  Once again, the Flight School page is fundamental in showing the pilots where they need to be working from.  In this case, Chapter 2: Pilot Procedure, is the target.  Here they have an assignment and need to make sure that they post it in thier thread or it may never be seen and thus- will be unable to continue in their training.

Pilot Procedure Page is as follows:

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Pilot_Procedure

Chapter 3 (The Posts )is the most challenging part of FS though, or atleast should be, because it requires the pilot to make two full post, longer than usual length, and create a story out of them.  The story isn't required so much as creating some sense of one.  What story can you tell with two post?  These post are only experiences- they correlate with a larger story that one can choose to write out in the future, and really only drops hints of their character and ingenuity.  They should be interesting and fluid and should be thoroughly checked in informational, grammatical or spelling errors.  The operaters have an incredible role in this because they can shape and form the post before they are ever actually put up.  Although they are not the 'trainers' per se, they can fill in that role substantially by providing the new recruits with any help they need in their time of hit and miss, and really make the post something else when they are first put up.  The trainer is the only one who will actually okay it and grade it, but the operaters are pretty much a necessary aspect in making this process a complete success.

'The Post' page is as follows:

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=The_Posts

Note:In that same chapter this a sublink known as 'The Squadron' where pilots are taken through the procedures of a pilot in an Active Squadron.  This is sometimes thought of as a good reference before actually writing the post.  Also, if one intends on passing the Aviators Exam and becoming a well versed pilot, it is necessary to read the following page:

http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=The_Squadron

The fourth and final chapter in FS and really BT all together is that of the Aviator's Exam.  Operaters can show the link but only help in ways that do not reveal the answers, only guide the pilot toward them.  The Aviator's Exam is tough not because of its content but because of how its worded- this is where most of the questioning will probably occur.  The operator doesn't have the power to actually grade the test of course- that's the trainers job.

After completion of all these things, the operators can do nothing more than give the pilot something to do in the meantime.  This would be pointing them in the direction of a personal story or maybe getting them involved with a game.  However, if that particular operator is also a trainer or is allowed to grade test, they may do so.  Those who are allowed to do those things are notified of it and are given the password to the account training@imperial-navy.com

Each chapter is only a part of the grade, although some may weigh more than others.  They are all necessary to move on and prepare the pilot for active duty.  Both trainers and operaters may be called in to help evaluate a pilot and give them a final grade and rank.  Only the Training Commander, Training Executive Officer or other members of the Naval High Command are allowed to present people in graduation.  They must have a message sent to them with all the needed materials before hand though- including a list of all graduates, their ranks and promotions and/or other rewards.  Being 'placed' in a group is up to trainers and the VENA High Staff.  Operaters can be consulted once again, but have no actual say in who goes where.

After all this, both operaters and trainers as well as the rest of the Navy can be proud to announce the newest members of the Vast Empire Navy's active duty roster.
