Reading "hundreds" of books isn't necessary, Squall. A few books from good authors will suffice. Reading and observing the writing style does help. I have read six Tom Clancy novels and two other novels from two very good authors (Richard P. Henrich, Sea of Death / Michael DiMercurio, Phoenix Sub Zero). All authors have good story-flow and detail/description.

I thought Id save the DJOs time and tell Tesa that: you have to be a member of the Vast Empire for a minimum of 4 months. Then it depends if you will be accepted because they look at your writing.

For a board such as the DJO, there are very minimal topics, so creating new ones wouldn't be wise since you'd probably be seeing 10+ "How do you join the Order" topics.

Second, from what I've known thus far, it is a 4 month minimal period. This 4 months doesn't mean a member for 4 months, it means that you must have at least four (4) consecutive months of active duty. Meaning, if you were gone for 3 weeks on vacation, that doesn't count. You need to have been active for 4 consecutive months before you can submit an application.

Now you have the application process. In your application, you need at least 3 letters of recommendation. In the past (and as it is currently), you need letters of recommendation from one of each of the following people:

1 member of the AHC
1 member of the NHC
1 Member of the DC (Dark Council)

Over the years, it's been found that receiving letters of recommendation from your closer-superiors (Platoon commanders, for example) have been a better resource because they're the ones that actually know you and your abilities. But currently, the rules above are the rules that I know that still apply and in effect.

Yes, the DJO mainly looks at your writing as a major aspect in terms of the application process, but we also look at your character's history: your maturity, how have you handled yourself thus far in your career, are you a decent person? You could be the most talented writer in the VE, but we won't take you in if you're an immature turd.

We take a lot of care in choosing who gets accepted into the DJO. The DJO is the elite division of the Vast Empire, so we need to make sure that its members are up to par. For example, the vast majority of Army and Navy story posts can very from 1 paragraph to 4 pages. A typical/average story post that is expected from all DJO members is at least 6 pages (a number that I have come up with from experience in the DJO). Anything less than 6 pages is really considered laziness. Those six pages need to be top quality too. In this case, we're looking at both quality and quantity.

The DJO is both a huge undertaking and incredible honor. The tasks distributed by the DJO are challenging, and only the strong-willed survive. The rest are exiled - the Force eternally stripped from their being.
