Doc, I like the pic.... I would just like to ask if you could change the colour to a pale blue and make the colour go from dark to light. Is that too much to ask?
My problems are with my vision:P Orange isn't a very good colour for me:P
Also can you make the word paladin stand out?

In order to allow .png types, you'd have to convince Kad, and I know he's pretty pro on keeping size limits small and animation to a complete minimum. -----------------------

The size limit can stay the same, and I wasn't thinking animations, I was thinking better combination of effects and transparency than gifs.
Edit: Dez, make add some transparent space on both sides of that image until it has width of 100 I bet that will fix the issue.

What I mean is the width of your image is 70 pixs, the avatar will aoutomatically be resized to 100x120
So if you make the width 100 by adding transparent space on both sides...
