All right, hands up who wants to play. I'm thinking of setting up a running campaign over the summer (i.e. when I can actually get on at a sensible time for the majority of the membership).
I'm thoroughly open to suggestion on when and where the campaign starts, since I now own a large number of SW d20 sourcebooks, including the NJO, and Rebellion era books, and the Dark Side sourcebook.
Initially, I would like 4-8 people to play, though I will take a couple more, and the first run will be over 6 weeks at 1-2 sessions a week depending on if you can be bothered to play twice in a week.
I'd want to play on IRC, and I have a reasonably good script for dicing. I can also supply an older version of mIRC that doesn't require a key.
I won't list "positions available", since this is a proper RPG, and so will be open to pretty much any character concept you want, though if you want to play anything too 'off-the-wall' I'd have to discuss it with you first.
I could also feasibly do D&D 3e, Warhammer RPG, Conspiracy X, Vampire (Masquerade and Dark Ages), and Paranoia. Though I'd rather not run Vampire. -----------------------

Some feedback on my first mini tutorial on d20 RPGin', graciously conducted by Mr. Ramon Stonefish.
This thing can cause you to have a big facking headache. There's so much to absorb etc. stats, feats, skills, modifiers. And that's just the basics, especially to a total n00b like me.
But practice makes perfect, I hope, so I'm still in. It's going to be fun, so I hope others will jump in on the bandwagon. Still alot more to learn.
And uhh. If you need help about d20 RPG private message Fish on IRC. He even has this cool dicey script thing going! :P |

Well if my gaming group that I've mustered for summer goes the way I expect I might add my wisdom and insane knowladge on RPG systems to the fray.
I know a lot of dirtly little tricks, evil things that you can do by the rules that make the situation unfair for the GM, and most of all I am a dsciple of the greatest power gamer I have ever heard of.
D&D second edition required minimum attributes to be any class. He generated a character that couldn't qualify for any and the DM was very affraid.
I wouldn't want to do White Wolf games on-line myself Fish. Especially the ones I'm familiar with(Mage The Ascension, Werewolf the Apocolypse, Hunter the Reckoning, Demon the Fallen). The flood of dice would be way too much. -----------------------

I've been playing Neverwinter Nights (SoU/HotU) for a bit now, and I understand that that's a 3rd Ed. D&D game, so I'm up for it.
Maybe if we can find enough people who have the game, we can setup a server and play there, or join a server. -----------------------

If ye need help with the d20 system I'm pretty familiar with the SW version.
I don't much like the way it is setup because if a person maxed out thier affect mind they have a roughly 50% chance of setting the next to highest difficulty possible for the will save against the power at level 1, so I'd suggest altering the tables a little to respect skill a bit more then munchkin maxing.
I used affect mind as an example because it is the most powerfull force ability there is simply because of what you can make other people do with it. There are other charts that a munchkin maxed character can equally dominate. Just can't remember them off the top of my head and don't have the book in front of me. -----------------------

That's your opinion, Snipes, because I think it pwns. Single Player Campaign is awesome, storyline is awesome, and the MP rocks.
And yes, Caleb, this is an RPG, but it's an RPG that would be played on mIRC. Everyone participating would get into a private channel, and the story would begin. You would state your character's actions, and then roll a dice (we use a dice script) to see how well your character performs that action. -----------------------

see its the whole longsword thing thing that turns me off, you know, where you basicaly keep buying the same weapon, but with diffrent stats, so you'll prolly end up starting the game with a longsword and ending the game with a longsowrd +3, whereas games like dungeon siege you are actualy getting diffrent kinds of weapons all the time. i dunno, i beat the game SP, story was ok, i played threw it in MP too and it was about the same, still mind numbing, and now thier making a second one, but ya, if you dont realy care about weapon and equipment variety then its an ok game,
anyway. . .i was going to say more, but i forgot what it was. -----------------------

They kind of have the 'variation on a theme' idea for weapons in D&D.
While there may be many different weapons they all fit into basic categories where thier differences are negligible enough that they feel it is unneccessary to include a different weapon with different stats.
Sure this leaves a lot to be desired for eye candy but it is not actually not that far off from how things were in medieval times. There just were not that many different kinds of armor and many weapons performed close enough to counter parts they could be placed in categories rather then have to come up with something unique for each weapon.
Is it entirely realistic? No.
Does it leave something to be desired so you have something different to look at? Yes.
Does it suffice without making a game so unwiedly and complex that it manages to actually do a deceant job? Yes. -----------------------

Sound like, if we are starting with a fresh bunch of people, the easiest thing is to start off with simple dice rolls and progressively move into rules and challenges and mods.
I don't know if Fish is still willing to do this but if he is, let's do him and everyone else a favor and take it slow and easy. Get used to your characters and how you have to be mindful of using them (e.g. no broad strokes like you may do in a storyboard post).
And frankly, it's a lot easier to complicate things in person with a rulebook that can be shown to be the written rules of the game. Online just causes people to pitch a fit way earlier than they otherwise would.
If this is a project still waiting to be done, seriously, let me know. There are at least credits in it for those putting the work in and we could announce it publicly and get some more attendance. -----------------------
