Umm we have the enlisted cannon fodder NPCs. for the boardings we start with 1 squad NPC, and are to clear a place for the rest of the NPC's to board on shuttles.

Basically, yeah. The good part is that you have practically unlimited bodies for your incoming bolts plus some of them know how to hit the wall of the inside of a starship really really well. They'll be the "sad losses" that occur throughout the campaign, unless someone goes AWOL.

BTW, Army grunts, let's be a little more imaginative and put more than just humans on these Golans and whatever else we'll be fighting on. 

Some of these ships join the NR navy straight from their homeworld's defense fleet. Imagine having to fight a mess of Wookiees, Rodians...or Gungans.

Well, I seem to remember that even in the Rebel ships on the movies, humans did seem to dominate...  Oh well, my char's not exactly human either, so I guess I'll try to add in some variety.  Although, to be honest, all I usually say is "soldier" or "enemy", so I really leave it up to the imagination...

Actually, the rebel ship we saw in ANH was primarily Alderaanian, which is mostly human. Who knows what species inhabits the planet that you guys are fighting over. Common sense says that that species will most likely dominate the staff personnel, unless they're primitives. Don't forget to take into account their special qualities like surviving in vacuum if necessary. Let's be as realistic to the SW storyline as we best can, and yes, you can probably include Gungans if there's a reason they should be there. Phew, I'm out of breath.

Notes about the cockpits of Imperial Starfighters:

The following starfighters have no internal atmosphere, a pressured suit with helmet and breathing gear MUST be worn or pilot dies when he leaves the docking bay:

ALL TIES.
EXCEPT: The TIE Defender.

Gunships have internal atmospheres, HOWEVER, since there is only one standard flight suit for the Imperial Navy, the same gear is worn when flying it. The only difference is that the helmet may be removed when in the cockpit. DURING COMBAT the helmet must be worn, because all of the com gear is built into it (additionally since the helmet + suit are a pressurized suit, if you're forced to eject, you'll have something to breathe).

T/Ds are mostly for Venom/NHC. I haven't seen one used in a normal squadron before.

One thing to keep in mind with squadron stories.. if you don't have the same ship, you don't perform at the same level and it can throw off formation quite a bit.
