Aurora: Practice makes... better than nothing.

The loud ticking of the clock on the wall filled the room, light coming from the datapad resting on the nightstand next to the bed, several messages displaying on the screen.  The young squadron commander stared up at the ceiling of his assigned room onboard the Halcyon Warrior, dressed completely in his flight suit as his gloved hands twirled a holo-disk between his fingers.  He let out a weighted sigh before sitting himself up, grabbing the datapad.

His thumb scrolled through the messages, eyes scanning their content before a soft smirk crossed his lips.  "Training mission..?  I... I suppose I could use the distraction.  Who knows, maybe I'll enjoy being back?"  He said with a weak chuckle, swinging his legs over the edge and onto the floor.  Boots met deckplates with a dull thud, the Onderonian standing up slowly, spine popping several times as he stretched.  After a minute of holding the pose, he relaxed some.  He slid both the datapad and the holo-disk into a pouch on his uniform, then grabbed the flight helmet before making his way out the door.  Almost immediately, he bumped into a pair of engineers working on repairing the nearby bulkhead.

"Hey, watch where you're going!" one of the engineers said, glaring at the pilot.

Cayden stopped moving and looked at the two engineers, noting their ranks before speaking.  "Sure thing Senior Crewman.  I'll be sure to watch out for you.  In the meantime, this Warrant Officer has a briefing to get to.  So go run along and play with your arc welders," he said with a smirk, continuing down the hall past the two crewmen.

They both looked at each other before the Senior Crewman speaks up.  "Damn fighter jocks... think that cause they're going out on missions means they can tell us what to do..." he grumbled, sliding the welding mask down over his face before returning to working on the repairs.

Cayden walked down the durasteel-plated corridor, listening to the thumps of his boots on the flooring, the cracks and pops of the engineers hard at work repairing the vessel.  He ducked his head low, hands gripping the helmet tightly as he moved under a low-hanging pressure door, glancing at it behind him as he noted a trio of engineers working on unsticking the large metal portal.  He noticed a group of soldiers marching towards him, the SC quickly moving against the wall before the Stromtroopers could run him over.  Cayden took note of the fact that they would have easily just run him over and chuckled, remembering his sister telling him that the helmets were completely impossible to see out of.  But, the moment the thought of Cayla, and soon after, the rest of the family entered his mind, his mood immediately soured, his movements becoming more crisp and firm as he resumed walking towards the briefing room.

The pilot strolled into the room, taking note that he was the first to arrive, and quickly made movements to the desk in front.  He seated himself behind it, staring out at the other eleven seats in front of him, sighing some.  Cayden set his helmet down on the desk, followed by the datapad and holo-disk, hand resting on top of the disk after he took it out.  'They're safe... you know they are.  Captain Andula is watching after them.' he thought to himself, removing his hand as a holo image of Maroy, himself, and their daughter displayed from the disk.  He smiled some at the image, slowly reaching a gauntleted hand up and feigned caressing the image, the hologram flickering as his hand grazed it slightly.  Cayden let out another sigh before he covered the disk up, picking it up and sliding it back into the pocket right over his left breast.  'Shouldn't be too much longer now.  Once they're all here, we can begin this meeting... then provide me with distraction enough to be able to do my job here.'

He tapped his fingers on the desk, his free hand fiddling with the datapad before he quickly stood up.  'I'm impatient.  Gonna get set up before they get here.' Cayden said inside his mind, sliding over a small holo-projector and set it up on the desk, sliding the datapad into it.  He pressed a few buttons, a technical readout and display of a VE standard-issue TIE Interceptor appearing above the desk.  He pressed another button, the image changing to a 3-D representation of the nearby asteroid field.  On the inner edge of the field was an asteroid larger than most, a good portion of the size being created by the large base constructed into the structure of the rock.  'The Asteroid 19 Training Facility... I remember it well.  I wonder if they got it operational yet?  Would be nice to use it as a rendezvous point after the session,' the commander thought, changing the projection again, showing two Interceptors being pursued by another pair of Interceptors.  He watched as the lead pair split, two fighters going off in opposite directions as the pursuers also split, giving chase to their targets.  With a series of taps, the image returned to that of the tech readout.  Cayden moved back to behind the desk, seating himself.  He leaned back some in the chair, letting out a groan as he realized he was an hour early for the briefing.  'Well...' he thought, turning the projector off.  'Now what to do?'

After about five minutes of sitting, he immediately stood back up and made his way to the door.  Walking back out into the hall, he turned a sharp right, making his way back to his quarters.  Ducking back underneath the half-closed door, shielding his eyes from the engineers welding several panels back into place in an adjoining locker room.  Cayden's boots made louder thuds as he quickened his pace, trying to get back before the briefing was supposed to start.  He noticed the two engineers from before, making sure to not bump into them this time, he managed to slip back into his quarters.  With a deep breath, he opened the trunk at the foot of his bed and rummaged through it, moving items about as he searched for something.  Eventually he smiled as he took out a holstered SR Combat Pistol, attaching the holster onto his belt.  Reassured with the weight of the sidearm on his belt, he closed the trunk and walked back outside, bumping into the two engineers again.

"Blast it all!  What is your deal, Vachead??" The Senior Crewman asked, rather loudly, dropping the welder as he stood up.

"Excuse me?" the pilot asked, glaring at the engineer.

"Why in the blasted hell do you insist on disrupting my work??" he said loudly, removing his welder's mask.

Cayden looked at him before smirking a bit.  "Because ruining your day is what we... 'Vacheads', as you so artistically refer to us as... do best," he said calmly, patting his shoulder some before walking down the hall.  "Best be returning to work before you do something you'll regret."

The engineer stood there, glaring after Cayden, face a deep red as he contained his anger.  His partner, a young Twi'lek, touched his shoulder gently.  "Come on... let us return to work.  We have to have this section finished before the supervisor returns," she said softly, nudging him lightly.  With a sigh, the two engineers returned to work, the Senior Crewman vowing to get revenge on the pilot who crossed his path.

After making his third trip down the corridor, Cayden made it back to the briefing room, noting that he was still alone inside the room.  He let out a sigh before making his way to the desk, seating himself down behind it as he flipped the projector back on, reviewing the technical readout of the fighter again before everyone else arrived.

ALRIGHT AURORA SQUADRON.

Welcome to our first story here in our new, and very beautiful, squadron.  Right in the beginning we will all be going to a briefing, allowing everyone to slowly trickle in and get back into the feel of things in regards to posting to stories.  Also, while this story is technically non-canon in the VE Timeline, that does not mean that posting is optional.

Posting at least once a week is necessary.  Two or more posts though, are always welcome. c:

Other than those things... Have fun!  Welcome to "Aurora: Practice makes... better than nothing"

EDIT: Forgot to mention!  We are stationed onboard ISD II Halcyon Warrior, which is undergoing extensive repairs, inside and out.

Quote from chat with Drac: "I don't know how much the Halcyon Warrior is going to play into the mission, but I figure there may be at least a description of her early on. So here's her current appearance: At least according to the current Revival story, she took very heavy damage in the battle over Corellia, including a massive hole in the bottom of the ship toward the back (nearly breached the engines). The hole was patched later, but with only very limited resources. The repairs are clearly not Imperial spec and the hull in that area is painted grey rather than white since that is what was on hand. She'd likely be undergoing repairs at an orbital shipyard above Lotaith right now."

So make sure to keep that all in mind when describing your surroundings while onboard, as well as initial departure and fly-by around the ship!  ^_^
