The two groups separated, each taking a different route in order to reach their immediate objectives. Seth kept his blaster raised as he moved by RedTape's side, his eyes ever scanning both ahead of them... as well as to the side.
Another good thing about attacking at night was that most of the base's personnel was in its quarters, relaxing after a busy day accomplishing who knows what evil Remnant schemes... The two men stopped dead in their tracks as they watched a lone individual cross the corridor ahead of them. Both blasters were aimed at him from the moment he stepped into their line of sight until the very last moment he disappeared behind a corner.
The two men waited for a bit before making their way forward once more, making sure to each cover the other end of the intersection once they reached it. There was no sign of movement however so the duo rushed on ahead, shortly reaching a set of stairs leading down. Based on what Micro told them earlier that's the path they needed to take in order to reach the holding cells.
"Security personnel has been dealt with", Smiley announced all of a sudden as the two other men slowly made their way down the stairs. "Micro's currently... ehm... doing his thing with the facility's computer." RedTape's mouth formed a brief smile before he answered in a low voice "Acknowledged. Keep me posted."
A mere couple of minutes later Seth and the other man stood on either side of a door ominously tagged as
Holding Cells - Authorized Personnel Only. The two men gave each other a look and next a nod then slowly slid the door open. A small but well lit corridor greeted their vision - a corridor that had large looking cubicles on both sides. All but one were closed and from the only opened one whimpers, grunts and laughter could be heard.
"Come on, how much longer?" a male voice inquired impatiently. Upon closer examination of the sounds in the background Seth's heart sank as a grim idea of what was going on in the other room suddenly hit him. Raising his blaster higher he rushed forward and after only glancing inside the room once the man stormed inside and fired three shots.
The first hit an Imperial cleanly in the side of the head, sending his body flying a short distance through the air. The next two shots impacted the other male presence in the room, once in the back and once in the skull. The latter individual never knew what hit him as he felt his body slump forward and toward the woman still whimpering beneath his weight.
Despite having dealt with the immediate threat Seth still found himself rooted in place, as if some invisible force was preventing him from moving. The same could not however be said about RedTape who followed the VENI agent close behind and upon entering the room made his way to the woman in the center of the room. He unceremoniously kicked the male on top of her aside before removing his jacket and flinging it over her shaking form.
As much as Seth tried to look away at that point his eyes couldn't miss the woman's hair color in the process - a crimson, curly red. The one he was sent to receive however was a natural blonde and whom for the purpose of this mission utilized no other disguises according to what Captain Grey informed him before sending him on this mission. But if that was true then who was the woman quivering before him?
"Give us a moment", RedTape asked - for the first time Seth feeling a hint of emotion in the man's voice. Not saying anything the VENI agent just nodded once and turned away, exiting the enlarged cubicle and standing in the bright corridor outside, his blaster ready to shoot anyone that may have thought about entering from the other side.
More whimpering and also some whispering could be heard from the other side of the thin walls and after five or six minutes RedTape emerged from the room, his expression hardened and somewhat fiercer than before. "Your agent's in the cell across and to the left apparently", the merc informed Seth and then remained quiet for a few moments before announcing through the comm channel "Micro, I found Sin - how are things on your end?"
"Just need a little more time and it'll be done. Hey, how's Sin?" the slicer asked but upon receiving no answer knew better than to repeat the question. While RedTape secured the corridor, DeepSix made his way to the indicated cell. So many questions were going through his mind, yet above all those questions the man was anxious to get on the other side of the door and find the one he came searching for.
Now getting on the other side of the door... that may turn out to be a tad trickier given the electronic lock that required actual knowledge of a code as opposed to just a convenient key cylinder or even a regular key for that matter. A few hits with the blaster's butt followed by a couple of hard pulls finally managed to loosen up the panel. It only took Seth about a minute more to actually remove the cover entirely and see the dozens of colored wires beneath it.
The man was not entirely unfamiliar with how systems in general worked, especially not after having worked on starfighters every now and then during his free time. He knew that either cutting the correct wires - or maybe cutting them in the correct order - as well as maybe just rewiring them could open the door. He knew this much but looking down at the bundles of wires before him the VENI agent had no bloody clue whatsoever where to start.
"Micro... you any good with locks?" the man finally decided to ask. "Depends", the other's voice rang back, "what do you need?" It took Qorbin only a few moments to relate the situation he found himself in, following which Micro just told him to stand put and wait while he would try and deal with the issue from the main controls found in the security center.
"No good", his dejected voice finally came back a couple of minutes later. "Base has been designed with certain systems completely independent from the mainframe - thus ensuring that if something were to go wrong the damage would be compartmentalized."
The news did not please Seth in the slightest, his expression frowning as a result. "I need to get in there..." he spoke clearly and lacking any trace of hesitation. "According to my schematics you should have a working terminal nearby. As I said, I cannot access it remotely from here, but you could access it directly from there. I could guide you through what to do..."
"Hello?" Micro's voice came over the comm. "You still there?" the geeky fellow asked again and this time around Seth answered him "Standing at a computer terminal now. What do I do?"
"First go ahead and initialize it - see whether it's locked or unlocked as well as what systems it was supposed to take care of in the first place."
This was easy even for Seth. A few keystrokes and the terminal came alive, the Remnant's symbol large and colorful slowly fading in the background as a window requiring an authorization code popped up next. "It's locked. I need a code to push forward..."
"Ask and ye shall receive", Micro mumbled after a few seconds pause. "Try the following - jay one five zeta niner niner phi two one seven killo eight one three alpha. Did that work?"
"It's asking for verification. Do I just repeat that string?" the VEN officer asked. "No!" the nerd was quick to answer. "No", he repeated a little calmer and next provided an explanation as to why "do that and it'll permanently lock, all the while sending out alarms throughout the entire base. To verify... let me see... ah here it is - type the following: killo two six zero nine bravo six seven one one omega five nine two epsilon zero seven."
A brief silence followed and Seth watched the popup image disappear, being instead replaced by a broader menu. There were a few utilitarian sounding icons as well as a something clearly named
Holding Cells. Without asking for Micro's help, the VENI agent clicked that and watched as the screen changed, new icons replacing the old.
Unsure what to do next but feeling fairly confident in his odds the man next selected
Status. Eight icons were shown next, each one named
HC with additional numbers attached. The numbers ranged from
01 to
08. Given that there were just as many cells present on both sides of the corridor it didn't take a genius to figure out what the numbers represented.
Even so Qorbin still had to take a few steps back and check to see his cell's designation.
HC-05, huh? he thought to himself and returned to the terminal, immediately clicking that very icon next. A few options presented themselves to the man next, including something that sounded like
Depressurize and more importantly something else that clearly spelled
Unlock.
Not giving the issue another thought the man clicked the latter and turned to look at the door... that remained as closed as before. Turning back to check the terminal's display Seth noticed the wretched thing was again asking for a code. "Micro", he began and before he knew it finished explaining everything he had done in the meantime.
"Well duh... It's only natural for such systems to have redundancy checks in place. Also it would take too long to get you that code... Assuming this place works like most other Imperial establishments however... Hold down grek, click and next hold down resh and finally push shen... Did you do it? Did anything happen?" the slicer asked eagerly.
Seth had indeed followed the other's instructions and watched as the screen flickered for a few moments before a drop down box lowered itself from the upper side of the screen. The box was transparent and had all sorts of numbers and codes written before it. Right now however its cursor was blinking on and off just waiting for more input. Opening the comm channel the VENI agent explained as much to the more experienced slicer.
"Good, then we'll be able to exploit this to our advantage. Type in the following exactly as I tell you:
[set terminal0147 to conditionemergencyoverride "1"]. Next type in:
[set terminal0147 to verifyaccesslevel "0"]. Next... let me think... right, so:
[set holdingcellsystem to manualmanagemt "1"]. Finally use the following one after the other:
[enter holdingcellsystem],
[select holdingcell05],
[unlock], press any combination of seventeen digits you feel like and behold the magic unfold before your very eyes...
