Echelon: Ancillary Skill Logistics and Supply

Petty Officer First Class Echelon sat behind his new desk and work area.

If I’m going to be handling repairs full time now, I better have a frakking office!

Being the Damage Control Officer, he organized repairs and such for his ship, the Atrus. The ship had suffered minor damage during the recent battle at Belgaroth, but the ship was huge, the largest in the navy, so minor damage was relative. He recently requested an office for his passive duties. During a battle, he would be at the bridge where he could send out damage reports and the whatnot, but a lot of what he did was paper work and logistics. Definitely logistics. Somehow, the crew had got him doing the logistic end of things for the bridge sector as well. Food. Supplies. Pay.

Currently, the ship was docked at a re-supply station at Tadath, and he was filling out requests for re-supply for the bridge sector.

“Let’s see,” he said, talking to himself, “the food shipment is coming in soon. I’ll have to do that...” He reached into his desk and pulled out his datapad and brought up a re-supply form. The food was going to be delivered en mass to the largest supply hangar of the ship. From there, officers from all around would request the amount of food they needed for their sector. Then the supply personnel would divide the food up and transport it do the directed sectors.

“500 metric tons of food...to be delivered to dockingbay 5b1...yes...” Once he finished the request, he stuck the datapad into his uniform pocket and proceeded out of his office. He strode down the hall, and into the nearest turbolift, where he pressed several buttons. The doors closed and he sped down.

After a few long moments of waiting, the doors opened to a metal hallway. He walked down to the end where he opened a door into the supply hangar. Inside was a massive transportation vehicle. Surrounding it were several Imperial Officers submitting their applications.

Echelon strode over, and met with a supply officer.

“Application?” he asked in a bleak tone.

This guy has been in logistics too long. It sucks the soul out of you.

“Here sir,” Echelon replied, showing him his datapad. The man took the datapad and briefly hooked it up to his. He pressed several buttons and handed his to Echelon.

“Sign here, here, and here.” He pointed to blank lines on the screen. Echelon grabbed a stylus and quickly wrote his name.

They exchanged datapads, and the man stated, “It’ll be up in dockingbay 5k1 in about a half an hour.”

Perfect! I’ll go back to the office, file some more paperwork for repairs, and then meet the suppliers!

He strode back to the turbolift, and after a few minutes he was back in his office. He pulled the chair out and sat down.

“Okay. Ah! I need to file the crew’s wages!” he said, once again to himself.

He pulled out his datapad, and brought up the payroll utility. It listed the entire bridge sector’s combined payroll. Now all he had to do was fill out the form to transfer the money into the account. He filled out the application once again and submitted it to the the Vast Imperial Reserves. Soon, each crewmate would find the money transfered to their accounts. Who doesn’t love payday?

He checked his watch and noticed that the supply unit would be arriving soon. He got up and headed down the hall. Luckily, the hangar was only a few hallways down. No turbolift. Only a good walk.

He arrived at the hangar a few moments later and greeted the supply crew. They stood around several large crates about 2 meters tall, and one of them was in a hovercraft-forklift.

“Where should these go, mate?” one asked in an accent very different from Echelon’s.

Echelon pulled up his datapad for reference and then replied, “Those two should go into storage unit 56B. The other should go in 56A. The crewmen followed his orders and quickly moved the food units.

Some people hate logistics because it involves paperwork. Some hate it because it involves work. Some don’t hate it at all. That would be Echelon. Logistics means order and order is good. Like gears in a clock. Everything working together, and when everything works together, you get really great things.

OOC:
Word Count: 742. Logistics and Supply. Hopefully this will work, but I can understand if I have to redo it.

Again, for the prompt you had with the current wiki page, this is just fine, Ech.  I might have preferred to get a greater sense of the immense scale involved with supplying a ship as big as the Atrus, with some of the character's inner thoughts more than abstract numbers, but you know me: I'm always going to try to offer constructive criticism no matter what.  Overall, this is sufficient to let me know you have some idea of the massive behind-the-scenes effort necessary to keep these giant ships flying around.
