  Regents: Season of Change

Vanity had watched as Scral had gone insane. She had been there just as the rest of Regents had. They had all known that something was off about him. They even knew that he had a knack for being seemingly suicidal. But they hadn’t realized that the day they went to take back the bacta was the same day that had haunted Scral for a long time. He had snapped on the Fearless not long after the battle. Several of Regents Squadron attempted to hold him down until Sarah managed to sedate him. After that they had taken Scral away, and he had been declared unfit for duty.

That was the first thing that had happened to Regents. It wasn’t long after that Maroy had left without much of a word why, though Vanity knew Cayden knew something about it. Then after that, Cayden had made an announcement to Regents.

He would no longer be their SC. Vanity’s feelings were mixed. Sure she wanted him gone, but who would step up in light of the people who had just left? It was what Cayden had said next that had surprised her the most.

Vanity had been recommended to be SC by Cayden. She had accepted without thinking. They had gone through the process, and she was now leading Regents. She had picked Michele as her XO, the only true member left of Regents since she had arrived, and, as far as she knew, someone she could trust and be able to deal with.

Once Vanity had settled into her position, Cayden had left to go to wherever he was going. The two didn’t talk to each other. She didn’t want to know what he was up to, and Cayden wasn’t actively telling her what he was up to either. It was at that moment that the two had officially parted ways. Maybe it was for good. Who knew. Only time would tell.

To think that all of that had happened in such a short span of time. They had barely been on Abrae long enough to breathe the air it seemed, and Regents was already starting on a new foot. She only had a few left: Michele, Dunny, Fianna, Julianna, and Coren. Sarah had also left when Cayden had left, leaving her without another member. Regents had been dismantled, and it was Vanity’s job to see it build itself back together. Once again, she questioned why she had accepted the position. Going from a FM to SC was a big jump, even for her.

Vanity set down the papers she had been looking at. She needed to stop reflecting on the past, even if it was a not-too-distant past. The thought of everything changing left her with more stress than she needed.

What she did need was fresh air though. Vanity put away what she had been working on, stood, and exited her office. She walked through the barracks and opened the door to the outside. It was a nice day, and it was fairly quiet.

Sitting just outside, his back against one of the sentry turrets that guarded the barracks was a young man in a battered TIE Pilot's uniform. He looked up from what appeared to be a notepad, and inclined his head in greeting. "G'day gorgeous."
Vanity flinched in surprise. "Dammit, Dunny. Don't scare me like that." she turned to see him.

He closed the book slowly, and placed down what appeared like an old lead pencil beside him. Raising an eyebrow slightly, he quickly adopted an offended expression. "I'm scary?" He asked, pretending to be hurt by the accusation.

"Oh yeah. Completely." Vanity replied sarcastically. "What're you up to?" She glared at him. Despite the fact that they had fought together, Sam Jack Dunn still annoyed her down to her core. Though she could never place what it was that made him so irksome, she welcomed the negative feelings as she always did with anyone or anything.

Sam shrugged his armoured shoulders and held out the book for her to take and inspect, obviously not planning on keeping any secrets. "Just a recipe book I'm working on." He didn't elaborate, apparently if she wanted to know more, she was going to have to open the book herself.

"A recipe book? Give me a break." She snatched it out of his hand and looked at it. He wasn't kidding though. Each page contained some strange concoction of some sort. "Couldn't you be doing something better with your time? Who does this?"

Snatching the book right back, Sam Dunn gave the woman a long glare, before shrugging his shoulders. "Someone who knows just how rare food can be. Not that you'd know anythin about that." The insult hung in the air. Damned brat, she'd probably never gone hungry a day in her life.

"Excuse me but you don't know a damn thing about me!" Vanity yelled. The rage within her began to flare as it always did. "Nor would you care. You're too much of a show-off. Self-focused. You think you can jump into death and come out alive!"

Sam Jack Dunn didn't rise to the bait. He took a few moments to make sure he was calm, looking the enraged woman straight in the eye. "Look luv, life's a laugh, and death's the punchline. Just enjoy the joke, or you'll spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder." He continued. "A show off? Pfft, I don't need ta impress you. Or anyone. I just want to be able to hold my last breath, and when I go out, do so with a bloody smile."

"Then smile your way away from here. I'm sick of you!" She didn't know what made her say it. She didn't know why everything he said she took as some personal attack. She just acted, just like she always did. Acted without thinking. Vanity's glare bore into Sam's own eyes. "I'm sick of you going out and looking like some damn perfect pilot! I've been here longer than you!"

The young man got to his feet, a sigh on his scarred lips. He shook his head softly, closing his eyes for a moment. He tossed a single word over his shoulder as he turned on his booted heel and walked back into the barracks, his voice tinged with just the merest hint of regret, and a fair bit of his trademark rebeliousness.

“Fine.”

Vanity watched him walk away, then turned and trudged off. She refused to look back. She refused to feel sorry for what she had said. Instead she continued on until she found herself in a bar.

Too many things were changing. Just that morning Vanity had been informed that Regents would be receiving at least four new members. Furthing, Norsedragoon, Keedra, and Primarch. They would be arriving sometime today, and, though Vanity knew she needed to be around when they came, she didn’t want to go back and see Dunny. Michele could take care of them if they needed help. Hell, even Dunny could. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust him. She trusted him more than she trusted some people. There was just that part of her that she was afraid to admit. That feeling that lingered in her heart…

Jealousy.

Even admitting it was painful. She didn’t often admit to her own anger, but when she did, the part of her conscience that seemed otherwise dead came back to life. She hated guilt and any feelings that were related to it. What she needed right now was a drink to wash it all down. She’d be better after that. Maybe then she’d meet the new members.

She just needed some time away.

Hello Regents! This will be our new CD story that takes place chronologically after the TF story. CD stories don't have any missions. They're free for you to introduce your character, talk to other people, and just have fun (within reason )

I've set it up so that your characters are just arriving to the Regents barracks. However you arrive, whoever you talk to, or whatever you do is up to you. Please remember though, the TF story comes first! Post there before you start trying to post anything here.

With that said, have fun!

P.S You can also have your characters talk to the NPCs in Regents. Don't be afraid to use them too. All Regents NPCs are listed on the wiki page.
