“Five minutes to arrival, Captain Mihawk.”

Drac nodded, “Thank you, Ensign Ludwig.” Stepping slowly down the length of the Dead Gun’s command deck, the dark skinned Mon Calamari officer glanced from side to side, measuring the performance of his bridge officers…and hoping his wasn’t completely out of his depth. Shaking his head imperceptibly, he looked out at the dazzling vista of hyperspace as he thought, ‘It wasn’t more a week or two ago that I first walked onto the Cerulean to take command. That, at least, I had experience with. I’ve never handled anything the size of the Dead Gun, though, much less such a large fleet. This battle will be very interesting. I will need all the luck I can dredge up.’ He sighed, tasting the metallic scent of the Star Destroyer’s recycled air. ‘It was much simpler as a fighter pilot. Heh. Well, one can only swim as fast and as far as they are capable, and I’ve yet to find the current that drowns me.

Activating the ship’s comm, the amphibian spoke, “All hands should now be at general quarters. Exit from hyperspace in tee-minus…four minutes. Remember, there’ll be friendlies already in the system. Make sure you don’t fire on the wrong craft. And remember: do notdamage the structural integrity of the objective unless there is no alternative. Best of luck, 2nd Fleet. For the glory and wrath of the Vast Empire!”

A couple minutes later the whirling lines of hyperspace snapped back into pinpricks of light. Centered in the front viewscreen sat a planet, and further back the system’s binary stars glowed. At the ends of the viewscreen he could see Taskforce Aurek’s two Dreadnaughts, with other ships of 2nd Fleet beyond them. And there, orbiting the planet, a shipyard. Picket ships of various kinds were positioned around the system and a good number of other craft sat docked at the shipyard itself- notable amongst them an Imperial-II class Star Destroyer whose transponder supplied its name: the Skyhawk.

I hope that signal the Regents got out to me was correct.’ Drac thought to himself. ‘If it was, then we should see the results...’In the distance a light flared on the shipyard facilities. What was a twinkling at this distance represented a large explosion- the destruction of the shipyard’s communications center and equipment. Drac nodded, allowing himself a human-style smile, then spoke to the bridge and his fleet command channel, “Gentlebeings, you have your assignments. Taskforce Aurek will be heading in to suppress and hopefully capture the Skyhawk- or kill it, should all else fail. Taskforce Besh will engage defenders around the station. Remember to avoid damaging the station wherever possible. Taskforce Resh, you will be engaging the station defenses and securing our secondary objectives, as well as supporting Taskforce Besh as necessary. Now- engage!”

The Vast Empire’s 2nd Fleet split into three prongs, but stayed in close proximity to each other as they drove in toward the station. They were about ten minutes out when the first blips appeared on the sensors as starfighters approached from the station and defending ships. Leaning over his Sensor Officer’s shoulder, Drac looked at the transponder readings of the first squadron. “That’s them.” He keyed up a special comm channel, “Mast Chief Tavers. Excellent work- my congratulations and thanks to the Regents.”

“No problem, sir- but you didn’t mention you’d be joining the party.” There was an edge of anger in the squadron commander’s voice. Drac smiled.

“I won’t apologize for doing the necessary, Regents Lead. Now, a flight control officer is standing by on the Chrome Fox to get you coordinated with your Taskforce.”

"Just what are we doing here, though? This's way outside our normal operating areas."

"We need ships. We're stealing them. The Reshies just stole a bunch of those ships from the Remnant, so....I suppose you could say we're taking a page out of the Rebels' book. Fly well, Regents. I'll see you on the other side." With that Drac left the channel.

“Captain! The Skyhawk has left the station! She’s coming about to engage us.” The shout came from another bridge officer.

Straightening up, Drac stepped over to the man and looked his screen over. He nodded, then returned to the center of the command deck, “Good. Sensors, can you give me any detailed information on the Skyhawk? Specifically, her performance and power levels as compared to the standard.”

The reply came a moment later, “Sir, it appears she was still undergoing repairs after another engagement. If she’s making best speed now, I calculate she can only make 80% of normal thrust. Also, several gunnery sections on her port side seem to be cratered.”

“Thank you.” Drac thought for a moment, then looked at his pilots’ station, “Mr. Groenveld, make sure we pass the Skyhawk on her port side. Also- when we are almost in range, put the ship into a horizontal axis spin. I want to be giving the Reshies full broadsides while only their forward guns can orient on us. Set the speed of the spin so that when we come abreast of the Skyhawk, we’re oriented 180 degrees from our current heading- more broadsides to be had. Order our Dreadnaughts to bracket her, one on each side, from a half kilometer above relative to her orientation.”

Stepping over to his gunnery officers, the Mon Cal lit up several sections on their display so that the Dreadnaughts’ gunners saw it too, “Gentlebeings, we want to disable that ship if at all possible, but not destroy her. Therefore, avoid the engines and bridge when targeting. Instead, focus our fire here…here…and here. There are major power substations at those locations. We’ll have to pierce her hull first, but if we can detonate those substations we’ll short out the bulk of her systems. She’ll be adrift, but easy enough to repair.”

Retaking the central spot on the command deck that was quickly becoming his customary place to stand, the 1st Lieutenant folded his hands behind his back and surveyed the ships arrayed against him. More were lifting away from the station now, but most still sat quiet. Those ships would have surprised him, due to their type, if he hadn’t known the recent history of Belgaroth, its system, and that shipyard. For those that hadn’t moved were imperial craft, all close to completion, but not quite ready to use. Until only two weeks before, Belgaroth had been one of the stronger core-side bases of the Imperial Remnant. Then Drac received intelligence that it had been assaulted and captured by the Reshies’ sector forces. Knowing the station, and many of its new defenders, would still be damaged, he’d chosen to retake the system for Imperials- just not for the Remnant. ‘The Naval High Council is pushing for more resources with which to search out those who perpetrated the assassinations. Building more ships takes time and material, though. So why not simply capture some that are almost ready to go?

OOC:
Word Count: 1162 (short for me, as of late. Lol)

Okay, then, 2nd Fleet. The promised action has arrived. Here’s what we’re looking at:

Belgaroth Shipyards: 5 tractor beam emplacements, 20 heavy turbolaser batteries, 5 ion cannon batteries.
Enemy Ships (Combatants): These we will destroy or drive off, exception being the Skyhawk. They include 1 ISD II, 2 Nebulon-B frigates, 1 Quasar Fire-class bulk cruiser, 4 CR-90 corvettes, and 8 Imperial Customs Frigates.
Enemy Ships (Non-Combatants): These we will capture. They were under construction by the IR before the NR captured the shipyard. They include 2 CR-90s and 4 DP20s.

Unit orders were issued in the post above. If you're unclear on them, re-read that section first, then message me or catch me on IRC for more help.

Slasher looks around the bridge of the Fearless, his crew all manning their stations aboard the new warship, about to get her first baptism of fire. He turns to Chief Warrant Officer Selsiri and request an update, “Time to firing range of the station defenders?”

Kardge Selsiri checks the sensor display again, and reports “Six minutes until the forward ships will be in range of the long guns Captain.”

“What ships are currently directly ahead of us?”

“The Quasar Fire-class Bulk Cruiser Flare, the CR-90 Bothan Pride, the Nebulon-B Escort Frigate House of Organa, and three Imperial Customs Frigates, the Valiant, Wambadu, and Tears of Ithor.”

“Ok,” Slasher turns to Communications, “Ensign Paroila, put me through to the rest of the Task Force, including the Squadron Commanders.”

“Aye Captain.” the Rodian officer hits a couple of buttons then nods in Slasher's direction, letting him know he is on with them.

“This is Lieutenant Gorma to all Task Force Besh units, orders to follow flash traffic of current situation.”

Slasher waits until all the commanders of his Task Force confirm they have received the information updates, and then he begins to speak again, “Captain Bacredi, your primary target is the Flare, and your secondary target is the Bothan Pride.”

Defiance acknowledges”

“Romanflame, you're targets are the Valiant, Wambadu and the Tears of Ithor.”

“Copy Lieutenant.”

“Master Chief Ruwacca, you're going to lead the 98th and 20th Fighter Squadrons, and the 52nd and 29th Bomber Squadrons against the House of Organa.”

“Master Chief Quelayen, you will assist the Amaranth in her mission, under Chief Warrant Officer Romanflame's Command.”

“Copy that sir.”

With his operational orders given for his men, Slasher turns back to face the forward viewport, “Sensors, time to firing range?”

“Two minutes Captain.”

“Weapons Officer,”

“Captain?”

“Inform Batteries to begin target acquisition, two minutes until combat is joined.”

==Battery T1==
Chief Warrant Officer Nabsk Nacck'lia looks around the cramped confines of the command center for Turbolaser Battery One, he reaches forward and hits the button to speak to the commanders of each of his guns. “Alright, we've been trained for this, check your targets and your calibration, 1 minute, thirty seconds to contact.”

“Gun One cleared for action”

“Gun two ready”

“[Gun three prepared]”

“Gunn four issss ready”

The time passes slowly in the various command and control centers of the Fearless her commanders collectively holding their breath, waiting to see how this untried ship will assert herself in combat. Finally, throughout the ship, indicators that had previously been red suddenly turn green.

On the bridge, Slasher looks out of the viewport, his eyes coming to rest on the House of Organa her anti-starfighter batteries just beginning to reach out and engage the fighters that he had ordered to engage the frigate. “Helm, bring us about to engage the Nebulon-B, full speed, Batteries T1, and T2 target her engines and weapons.”

Across from Slasher, in the crew pit, 1st Lieutenant Nuee'lan, his Executive Officer, is issuing her own orders.

“Battery I3, target shield generators, Wambadu, Battery T3, follow-up, fire for maximum damage. Battery T4, target engines of Bothan Pride.”

[[Sir! I've got ships ahead on the sensors! A whole fleet!]]

[[What? How'd they deploy a fleet to intercept us already?]]

[[Hold on...that's our fleet! What's the Dead Gun doing here?]]

Sure enough, the Vast Imperial Second Fleet had just jumped in and was bearing in on the New Republic facility at combat speed.

Amacuse began giving orders over the squadron channel. [[Regents, listen up. Second Fleet is moving to take the shipyard right now, so we're flying escort. Gamma flight, you focus on the bombers. Beta, you'll-]]

[[Watch out, Lead!]]

Regent Two had noticed what her squadron leader had failed to see: one of the pursuing X-Wings had gotten a missile lock. As her commanding officer took the hit and went spinning out of control, Maroy groaned. Not again...

"Regents, Lead's out so I'm in charge. Six, see if you can get a hold of him and get him back to the Fox. Beta flight, Four and I will help you with the fighters. If you can, take the Y-Wings out first. Gamma flight, head over to the shipyards and take out as many of the weapons emplacements as possible."

[[But what about me?]] Even over the static-filled X-Wing comm system, the Twi'lek could hear a faint bit of concern in Vanity's voice.

"Uh... take Six's place in Beta, for now. Now let's go, Regents! Our reign, their pain!"

I really wish I could be in my Interceptor right now... There's no way I'll stand a chance against other X-Wing pilots. They've had months, possibly even years, to fly these craft. They'll know the strengths and weaknesses better. Let's just try our best and hope we can win with numbers, if not with skill.

She chased after the nearest flight of enemy X-Wings, with Michele right behind her. A few quad bursts from both of them took out the leader, leaving the other three breaking off back towards the shipyards. One down, only a few dozen more to go...

===Hanger===

>>Attention all pilots. Get to your ships. Attention all pilots. Get to your ships<<

Tiberius rushed into the hanger half dressed in his flight suit. This place is far busier than I thought it would be. Some of these people don’t even look like they belong in the hanger. As he fought his way to his Interceptor, he kept thinking about his target. Nebulon-B frigates were designed to take out fighters, but TIE Interceptors were too fast to shoot down if the pilot was smart enough not to get too close. How Slasher thought two bomber squadrons and two fighter squadrons could stand up to it was a mystery in his eyes, even if the Fearless was also attacking it.

But it was not Tiberius’s job to question. He was here to shoot rebels ships out of the sky and that was what he was going to do. As Tiberius entered his fighter, he was once again overtaken by the smell of his fighter. It still reeked of newly cut metal and untouched controls. Snapping back to reality, he turned on the sensors, started the engines, and took off into space.

===Open Space===

>>[This is Vengeance Leader. All craft report]<<

>>Vengeance 2 standing by<<

>>Vengeance 3 standing by<<

>>Vengeance 4 awaiting orders<<

One by one the rest of the fighters reported in. Tiberius took this time to activate his shields, adjust his control sensitivity, and prepare his mind for the upcoming battle. They were going against a very powerful anti-fighter escort ship, and one small mistake was all it took to get shot down.

>>[Ok for anyone who missed the briefing, we will be attacking the Nebulon-B Frigate House of Organa. Fighters: Stay away from those laser cannons. They will rip through your shields in no time. Bombers: coordinate your runs along the center of the ship after the shields go down. If we can breach the hull there the ship will snap like a toothpick]<<

>>What about those laser cannons?<<

>>[Make runs short and quick. Get out of their range as soon as possible. We will protect you on your runs if we can]<<

>>Roger<<

Just as the bomber said that, the enemy fighters and the frigate attacked. Blaster fire was everywhere, but Tiberius kept his cool and tried to maintain formation. Then Ruwe gave the order to break off, and Tiberius immediately got on the tail of the closest enemy X-wing. Within seconds his Interceptor had locked onto the enemy fighter and he fired a torpedo at the X-wing, but at the last second, the X-wing took a sharp turn and the torpedo missed.

>>Dang it! Missed<<

>>Keep on him Vengeance 2<<

Tiberius followed the fighter and locked on again. This time he fired 2 torpedoes just to be sure, and surly enough when the fighter banked to one side, the other torpedo got him.

>>Enemy fighter down<<

>>[Bomber squadrons, commence bombing run, but stay out of those laser cannons crossfire]<<

>>Yes sir. All bombers take out those shields!<<

>>[Vengeance squad protect those bombers! All other ships keep taking out those fighters!]<<

Tiberius turned his ship and found the members of the 52nd Bomber Squadron. He then noticed that a X-wing had also noticed them, and was closing in on them. Thinking quickly, Tiberius quickly intercepted the fighter and made it brake away from the bombers, only to follow him.

>>I’ve got an enemy fighter on my tail!<<

>>Can anyone help him? I see two more fighters heading in his direction, and I can’t break away from the rebel squadron leader<<

>>This is Vengeance 4. On my way<<

>>Bombing run complete. Shields at 57% power<<

>> Ah! I’m hit! My engines are shot! I’m going down!<<

Tiberius watched as his sensors and the bomber’s blip disappear.

>>We just lost a bomber!<<

>>Hold on Tiberius! I’m almost there!<<

Then a sudden explosion made Tiberius jerk his ship to the right. Checking his sensors he noticed that the enemy fighter was no longer on his radar. Vengeance 4 had finally come.

>>Thanks Vengeance 4<<

>>No problem<<

>>Ok let’s make another run. All available fighters protect the bombers<<

>>Roger. On our way<<

Tiberius’s heart was pounding. As he veered toward the enemy frigate he noticed just how many guns it had. 12 laser cannons is a lot more than he had expected, especially when they were all aimed at him. At that moment, he realized that most of the bombers were on the other side of the frigate, which meant Tiberius was a diversion for the time being.

To make sure he kept it that way, Tiberius went into attack position to attack the frigate head on. He then noticed that there were two fighters in formation behind him. Without a word they had all gotten the same idea.

>>Vengeance 2 to any following fighters. Launch 4 torpedoes at the bridge of the ship when we are within range! Then break off and get out of here.<<

>>Ahhrrrgg!<<

>>Fighter down! Repeat! Fighter down!<<

>>[Stay on target! We need those shields down!]<<

>>Look! The Fearless is firing at the House of Organa! About time!<<

>>Commencing bombing run<<

>>Fire torpedoes<<

Then, in a flurry of explosions, the shields of the frigate were down, and the bridge was damaged. The Fearless kept firing at the frigates hull, hitting it in several places.

>>[Good work. Are we missing anyone?]<<

>>Two fighters went down protecting the bombers<<

>>[Ok. Attention all bombers. Attack the center of the ship, where her hull is it’s thinnest. Let’s take this ship out now!]<<

>>Vengeance 3 you have 4 ships on your tail!<<

>>[All available fighters help him out!]<<

>>Copy that<<

In the distance Tiberius could see Vengeance 3 being followed. The rebels were just out of range of the Interceptor, but one false move and that pilot would be shot down by one of their cannons. Tiberius quickly raced to meet with the troubled pilot. He then noticed that the rest of Vengeance and 2 other fighters were closing in, and Tiberius broke off to make sure the bombers were ok.

Luckily, Tiberius had spotted 2 fighters heading for the bombers just in time. He quickly got behind one of them and shot them down with his cannons. Then he noticed that the Frigate’s guns were aiming straight for them.

>>Bomber Squadrons break off! The frigate is targeting you<<

But it was too late. The bomber squadron had already started its run. They nearly destroyed the frigate, but a bomber was lost in the process. Tiberius regrouped with the bombers and protected them while they re-armed. Then a turboblaster shot from the Fearless hit where the bomber squadron had hit and the frigate snapped like a twig, breaking almost perfectly in half.

>>Yea! That’s how we do it right there!<<

>>[Excellent work. Bomber squadrons return to the Fearless and prepare to attack another ship. Fighters: stay out here and mop up any more fighters before they regroup with the rest of the ships]<<

>>Yes sir<<

Tiberius couldn’t help but let out a big sigh, but when an X-wing started to shot at him, he instantly regained his focus and remembered that the battle has just begun. There were still many more fighters to kill before he could relax.

OOC:
Ok for those who didn’t want to read all 1209 words, Here is an update.

Ellesmere wasn’t very comfortable in the X-Wing; she had trained in an Interceptor which felt more natural to her than this type of fighter, which she hoped she wouldn’t be stuck in for too much longer. As she surveyed her surroundings, she wondered how Cayden was doing, seeing as he was down and if all failed they would be joining him as well. Don’t think like that! You can do this mission just as well as the next pilot, as far as the X-Wing’s concerned, everyone in your Squadron’s in the same boat as you. You’ve all had some simulator time in them, that’s good enough for this mission!

As she snapped out of her reverie and back to reality, she and
Maroy spotted a contingent of five X-Wings which they quickly started to close in on, with only a few quad bursts, she and Maroy managed to take down the leader, which she thought was a slight advantage but not a very big one. With the leader out, this meant someone else had to take charge if that contingency plan hadn’t been decided upon yet. While this was going on, Michele felt that now was their chance to get on them and take out a few more..She didn’t want to end up being a trigger-happy rookie in the end however; so she decided to follow Maroy’s lead.
As she watched her viewscreen, she saw their prey start off toward the shipyards, that didn’t settle too well with her. She felt they needed to be stopped before they could go too far, or at least have their numbers dwindle a bit. Tweaking the throttle lightly, she increased her speed and banked right, peeling off a few shots at some of the retreating X-Wings.

“Nice shooting Four, don’t stray too far off though since you may be mistaken for one of the enemy”

“Roger that, I just wanted to try and see which way was the best to quickly get their numbers down before we get too near the shipyards”

“I hear ya, I don’t much like where this is going but we can’t take too much risk especially seeing as Lead is down.”

Feeling somewhat frustrated, Michele rejoined the tight formation and started peeling off shots at the enemy she had a clear shot at. As she kept methodically picking off their enemy and wishing she was back in an Interceptor, a warning came over the comm.

“Looks like we have more company you guys and they’re not ours, so may I suggest we break formation and get at them? Seeing as we’re not doing very good on the numbers when you look at the ratio”

Having reached a consensus, the squadron broke formation but remained close enough so that they could still aid one another as needed and so that the difference could be made between friendlies and enemies.

As she tightly banked right to avoid a few stray bolts, Michele felt her adrenaline start to pump steadily through her veins once again. She would try and get in as many kills as she could manage before they reached the shipyards.

Arthur received his orders and the com code for the 324th fighter squad.  Jaeron Wacok punched the codes in and opened the line to them.

“324th fighter squadron this is the Amaranth, you are to follow us to the closest Imperial Customs Frigate the Valiant.  Standby for farther orders.” Wacok relayed to Quelayen.

“Roger, Amaranth falling in behind you.”  Quelayen said.

The Amaranth made its way to the Valiant about half way a group of X-Wings moved to intercept the Amaranth.  Arthur had the gunners and the 324th take as many of them out as they could but wanted to focus on the Valiant.

~~~324th Fighter Squadron, Master Chief Quelayen~~~
“Ok guys this is what we are doing we need to follow the Amaranth to the Valiant.  We can engage but don’t stray too far.” Quelayen told his squad.
“Roger lead.” Every squad member responded.
The first wave of X-Wings flew passed the Amaranth losing four ships, before they met the Interceptors behind him.  The squad broke and began a small battle.  Quelayen forces broke formation and hunted down the rest of the X-Wings.
Baen Sidhe Lead I have one on my tail.” Baen Sidhe Four said.
“Roger Baen Sidhe four I’ll try to get there.” Quelayen responded.
Baen Sidhe lead fired his shots at the X-Wing he was chasing and moved to help his squad mate.  He found the target and quickly got his lock fired a burst from his quad-lasers and dropped his shields the X-Wing pilot quickly realized that he was a greater threat then the pilot originally thought.  He tried to pull away but Quelayen responded quickly and released another burst and hit the engines disabling the craft.
Baen Sidhe Four I’ll let you finish him off.” Quelayen told him.
“Thanks Baen Sidhe Lead I’ll take care of him alright.” He replied.
He banked and released a large burst right into the front of the X-Wing ripping through the hull and destroying the craft.  The small battle was quickly over and the regrouped with the Amaranth.
~~~Amaranth~~~

Arthur was staring at the Imperial Customs Frigate he was intent on killing, when he was told that the Baen Sidhe squad had mopped up the X-Wing squad.  Arthur was glad he was able to give them some excitement without getting them killed.  The Amaranth moved into range and began the assault.  Shortly after they started the 324th squad move around the Amaranth and fired their first torpedoes smashing into the shields.

The Amaranth shields dropped to 85% from the first barrage from the Valiant.  The shields held back all the lasers fire.  Arthur received word that no hull damage was detected and the bridge crew resumed their focus on the Valiant.

“Gunner fire two missiles at the Valiant.” Arthur ordered.

“Roger sir firing them now.”  He told him.

The missiles hit at the same time the second torpedo run hit and dropping their shields to 50%.  The Valiant second barrage struck the Amaranth and the last four bolts made it passed the shields and punctured the hull rupturing a hole into the mess hall.  The repair crews quickly rushed to patch the hole.  They grabbed the plate and held it and quickly sealed it.

“Status report.” Arthur called out.

“Shields holding at 65%, power for the weapons is sitting at 85%, the repair crews finished the patch and are holding out for more.  Sir.” He was told by the prospective officers.

The Amaranth and the Baen Sidhe squad continued fighting the ICF.  The Engines of the Valiant were completely destroyed from the next barrage by the Amaranth and the Squad, with the Amaranth taking a hit which punched a hole in one of the crew chambers.  Crewman Anthony Quaf the second shift pilot was walking past the room when the hole was made.  The doors lock failed and the door was ripped into the room with the sudden pressure change sucking Anthony in the room and out the hole.

The repair crew ran to the lifts and up a floor then to the room.  They saw that they could not get into the room safely so they decided to seal it up completely.  The crew check Ariyn Holts conducted found that they lost Crewman Anthony Quaf.

The battle continued and the Amaranth with the assistants of the 324th fighter squad they assaulted the bridge next and leveled the whole bridge which caused a catastrophic failure.  Around the whole ship many small explosions appeared, and spread across causing the ship to explode into about fifteen different pieces.  Almost all of the 324th squad was able to get away from the Valiant before it was completely destroyed.

“Jaeron give me an update from the Baen Sidhe squad.” Arthur told.

Baen Sidhe 8 and 12 were shot down in the battle, but Baen Sidhe 10 was killed by the explosion.  What are our new orders, Sir?”  Quelayen asked.

“We are going to precede to our next Imperial Customs Frigate the Wambadu.”  Arthur replied.

“Roger Sir, we’re falling in behind you.”  Quelayen responded.

As Michele honed in on her next target, she wondered how everyone else was faring. They were doing pretty good thus far, but things could get hairy in no time. “Four, watch your 9!” As she looked around for the X-Wing Maroy had alerted her to, she had her finger ready on the trigger and after having to do a loop so that the enemy fighter was no longer behind her, locked onto her target and fired. As she watched, the fighter exploded in a ball of fire and debris floated around in the vacuum that is space.
As she thanked her blessings and got herself back into “the zone”, she tried to pay careful attention to the vast emptiness around her. Were it not for the pinpricks of light the stars were creating, she would consider this environment boring if she was o fly out on a day off. As her mind started wandering to other not-so important matters, she forced her focus back to the present and found herself behind Maroy for the first time in the past few minutes. As she watched, an X-Wing got a lock on her squadron mate. Without thinking, she fired off a quad-shot hoping to not miss her mark. To her relief, everything went just as she had hoped and before you could say “oops” the enemy fighter was no more.

“Thanks Four” she heard Maroy’s voice crackle over the comm. System.

“My pleasure. Now let’s go dance, shall we?” she said with a smile on her face.

As she started putting on some speed, she looked left and right to see how everyone else was faring and wondered how Gamma flight was coming along. Right on cue, there was a crackling sound followed by a grainy voice she didn’t recognize.

“Gamma Flight here, we’re having a bit of a hard time taking
out the weapons emplacements encountering heavy opposition. If anyone can get over here and help us out if would be much  appreciated. We can hold ‘em off for a bit longer so feel free to finish up what you’re doing first.”

As the comm crackled a few seconds longer before going silent, Michele felt an urge to go over here and lend a hand. Opening up a private channel, she conveyed her thoughts to Maroy.

“That’s not a bad idea, let’s pick off the remainder of the X-Wings then we’ll leave Beta flight to deal with the remaining Y’s” As Michele continued systematically taking down the X-Wings, she heard Maroy’s voice over the comm.

“Beta, we’ll be leaving you to deal with the Y-Wings after we finish picking off the rest of these X-Wings. Gamma’s in need of help so we’ll be going to lend them a hand.”

“Roger that”

As silenced reigned in her cockpit once more, Michele focused her attention on the current task, but from time to time she couldn’t help but wonder how Gamma flight was faring at this point and was itching for an even greater challenge. She may be a rookie but she could be a very helpful rookie when things really got nasty.

There was no way for Macklin Vernaki to know, as he cleared the hangar bay and formed up with the other TIE bomber pilots of the 52nd Squadron, that he had only five standard minutes left to live.

With no foreknowledge of his imminent death, the young human from Corulag calmly performed his duties just as he had on countless former deployments during his brief but eventful career with the Vast Empire.  He checked his comm connection with the rest of the 52nd, and there were no problems.  He easily maintained his relative position in the squadron’s standard box formation on the way to the target – a Nebulon-B Frigate – despite several coordinated evasive maneuvers.  He efficiently readied his targeting computer, and launched his ordinance at the capital ship in perfect concert with his flightmates.  In short, his attack was flawless.

What’s more, Vernaki knew he’d done well.  He had participated in combat deployments before, and every time the 52nd attacked, the young human couldn’t help but feel a wave of pride and awe wash over him.  He felt incomparably lucky to be able to contribute to such an important application of Imperial might.  Vernaki knew from firsthand experience that the massed firepower of an entire squadron of TIE bombers was powerful enough to alter the course of Galactic history, and every successful sortie he flew, he took comfort in knowing he was writing a better future for all beings, across all the worlds of the Empire, and beyond.

But at that very moment – just as Macklin Vernaki felt the typical surge of righteousness and contentment that seemed to accompany every successful attack run – a gunner on the Nebulon-B retaliated with a volley from one of the frigate’s turbolasers.  The angry retort was aimed directly at Vernaki’s bomber, and even the Vast Empire’s shielding retrofits were not enough to save the fragile little craft.  At the speed of light, the TIE bomber’s shields were overloaded, its hull was melted away, and everything inside it was transformed into a cloud of free-floating ions.  A few jagged shards of durasteel were all that remained.

Five standard minutes after launching into the Battle of the Belgaroth Shipyards, Macklin Vernaki was dead.  Cruelly, but perhaps not unpredictably, Galactic history took little notice.

At Drac's kind invitation, I thought I'd write a short little post in honor of all the "little people" that make the VE possible: the NPCs!  So, here's to you, spear-carriers!  Your tireless, often-fatal efforts in the service of verisimilitude are greatly appreciated.

It's only like 377 words, but I figured as a guest poster, length requirements functioned more like guidelines.    Good luck, Second Fleet!

Slasher paces the bridge of the Fearless keeping tabs on the battle and listening to the controlled chaos that was the bridge of a Warship in a battle, as men yell back and forth, orders being issued, inquiries being made, and the responses coming back.

This is so much more chaotic than being on the bridge of the Onyx or flying a fighter, so many people, I'm surprised nothing is lost in these communications.

Slasher turns back to his weapons officer, “Report Lieutenant.”

“Captain, the House of Organa[i] has been destroyed, and we have begun to score strikes on the [i]Wambadu.”

“What is the status of the Bothan Pride?”

“She was hit pretty heavily as she passed us,” the Mon Cal responds, “we can return and make another pass and destroy her, or we can attempt a boarding action.”

Slasher has a sudden idea, and turns to see the towering form of the wookie officer, Ensign Gorrara, leaning over the shoulder of one of the sensor technicians, looking at a readout of the Bothan Pride. “Ensign, what is the status of the 42nd Regiment, do they have a unit ready for a boarding action?”

“[Captain, Lieutenant Colonel Ugar's 1st Battalion currently has A Company and B Company ready to make boarding actions, and C Company is currently in position to repel boarders should we be boarded.]”

“Very good Ensign, have both of the standby companies stand to and prepare for boarding action.”

“[Aye Captain]” The wookie turns and leaves the bridge, heading down to the armories where the marines are waiting.

Turning back to face the forward viewport, Slasher begins to quickly issue orders. “Helm, bring us about to make another run on the Bothan Pride. Gunnery, I want to disable that ship, Ion Cannons only please. Once she is disabled, tractor her in for boarding.”

“Aye Captain” come the responses. Turning back to the viewport, Slasher watches as the CR-90 grows larger and larger, eventually disappearing from view as the Corvette is brought into one of the bays underneath the Frigate.

“Captain, the ship has been successfully disabled, and is now within our launch bay.”

“Very good, begin boarding actions and bring us back into the fight.”

“As ordered Captain.”

==Docking Bay, Boarding Tube==

Captain Nilo Vera, commander of A Company, 1st Battalion, 42nd Regiment Vast Empire Marine Corps turns to his platoon commanders and begins to give orders.
“Alright, this is most probably going to be a standard CR-90 configuration, we've trained aboard one of these before, this time we're attacking one instead of defending one.” He turns to 2nd Lieutenant Kelia Orott first, “First platoon is responsible for getting to and securing deck 1,”

“Aye Sir,”

He points to the commander of 2nd Platoon, 2nd Lieutenant Yemowan Fokkwyr, “2nd Platoon, deck 2,”
“Aye Sir”

Finally turning to 2nd Lieutenant Bosrkkal, 3rd Platoon Leader, “You have deck 3, 4th Platoon will stay with me on Deck 2 once we board, and can provide reinforcements to any of you should you run into problems.”

“Aye sir” Respond both Platoon Leaders, and they turn back to face the airlock ahead, where a couple of boarding specialists from the crew of the Fearless slice through the security protocols on the airlock. All of a sudden the door opens, and quickly 1st Squad, 2nd Platoon, enters the airlock, taking up boarding positions, raising their E-11's as the specialist from the Fearless works to open the inner door.

“Alright, I'm in, let me know when to open the door.”

Staff Sergeant Nooool'sin, Squad Leader of first squad, motions to Sergeant Aanoasam to bring up his squad to prepare to breach, with Corporal Kradgen's squad in the rear. Confirming that everyone is in place, Nooool'sin signals the Slicer from the Fearless and the door slides open.

“Second Platoon, move out!” There is a brief exchange of blaster fire as they enter the room just on the other side of the airlock, and as Lieutenant Fokkwyr enters the room she sees the bodies of two Republic Marines on the other side of the room, having been cut down by bolts from the blasters of Privates Mornac and Wiranta.

Lieutenant Fokkwyr looks around at the four doors leading out of this particular compartment, and begins to issue orders to the Platoon via hand signals.

>>1st Squad Corridor Forward<<

>>Affirmative<<

>>2nd Squad Aft Door 1<<

>>Affirmative<<

>>3rd Squad Secure Location<<

>>Affirmative<<

==2nd Platoon 1st Squad==
Staff Sergeant Nooool'sin motions his men to follow him, and quickly opens the door, moving forward with his men, They enter a short corridor, with a door to either side, and one at the end, leading toward the front of the ship. “Pqweenu, Wiranta, secure forward entrance, Mornac, Noular, room search, port and starboard.”

“Aye Sarge.”

==2nd Platoon 2nd Squad==
Sergeant Aanoasam moves quickly through the door, his squad following him as he starts down the corridor. “Looks like a lot of rooms, most likely crew quarters, Andaf, on point, Ranknyy and Amugi, start checking those rooms.”

“Aye Sarge.”

Private First Class Liasig Ranknyy heads to the first door on the left and opens it, revealing the neat room of a junior officer, but it is empty, the Lieutenant it belongs to at his duty station elsewhere. “Negative Contact, Door 2, moving to Door 5.”

Across the corridor from him, Private Nain Amugi is on his third door, “Negative Contact, Door 3, moving to Door 4”

“Door 5 appears to be clear, looks like a mess hall to me Sarge, door across the way, most likely leads to the other corridor, permission to investigate?”

“Granted, I'm sending Private Spetrhynn to assist.”

“Rog-O”

==1st Platoon==

Lieutenant Orott watches as the lift descends carrying part of 3rd Platoon down to their target deck, they report negative contact, and as the lift returns up to Deck 2, she signals her first squad to board the lift, and then the rest of her platoon, squad after squad, uneventfully arriving up on the 1st Deck, and preparing to move out of the turbolift compartment. “Alright, let's secure the aft part of this deck, 1st and 2nd Squads, take the right door, 3rd squad, take the left, Raldik and Frokkha will stay here with Sei'sor, Thoine, and I to secure this area, move out.”

“Aye Lieutenant”

==1st Platoon 1st & 2nd Squads==
Staff Sergeant Neekol and Sergeant Cenar Danlin lead their squads aft, opening the door and walking through, their point men, Privates Vorkkal and Chenara, are the first around the corner, and seeing nothing they begin to move forward, the rest of their respective squads falling in behind them and beginning to move forward.

Sergeant Danlin comms Lieutenant Orott to report,

“Lieutenant 1st and 2nd Squads report negative contact at the moment, moving forward in a sw-”

His words are cut short as a blaster bolt drills into his head right between the eyes, and all of a sudden the corridor erupts with blasterfire, Republic Marines leaning out of doorways and around the corners at the end of the hallway, spraying the hallway with blasterfire, the remaining Imperial Marines return fire, taking out one or two of the enemies.

“Lieutenant, 1st Squad is in heavy contact, taking cover. Need some help” Staff Sergeant Neekol yells into the comm, as he and what remains of 1st and 2nd squads dive into the rooms to either side of the corridor right where they were, and begin to return fire, as Lieutenant Orott and those who had remained with her run into the corridor and under cover of suppressive fire from the two rooms occupied by the survivors of the ambush, begin to take stock of the situation.

==1st Platoon 3rd Squad==
Corporal Uker looks around as she hears blasterfire echoing through the corridor, and sees movement at the end of the corridor ahead of her, “3rd Squad, Cover, Occupy, Room, Left” The squad immediately responds, ducking into the room to their left, but they are not quite fast enough, and a blasterbolt from the attempted ambush drills into the thigh of Private Garboo, causing her to fall in the corridor outside.

Without thinking the entire squad responds, Privates Cl'tey and Linnoc'epp provide cover fire, while Corporal Uker and Private First Class Gunbrac pull Garboo into the room, Gunbrac pulls a field dressing from his utility belt, and dresses the wound, as Uker comms in their situation to the Lieutenant.

==A Company Headquarters Platoon==

Captain Nilo Vera moves through the former mess hall of the Bothan Pride as his Headquarters Platoon sets up it's command center there, a copy of the plans for each deck of the ship, copied out onto flimsi so they could be carried with the company are spread out on one table, 1st Lieutenant Terrcken and Staff Sergeant Tarkturus bent over them, trying to figure out the locations of enemy crew, as well as the locations of their own units, so that he can make accurate decisions, Specialist Ardus comes up beside him, holding out the handset for the Field Communications Unit on his back, “Captain, Lieutenant Orott, up on Deck 1.”

Nilo takes the handset and holds it up to his ear, “Kelia, report?”

“They were expecting us Captain, they ambushed us as we were moving toward engineering, I have 3 KIA, 2 WIA. We're pinned down and encircled, but we're holding our position for the moment.”

“Do you need assistance?”

“Affirmative, we need to get the wounded out of here, but at present we cannot get to the turbolift, they've moved men into there, and any unit coming up would be walking into a deathtrap Sir.”

Nilo hears the sound of blasterfire in the background, followed by a scream and the sound of the communications unit hitting the ground. In the background he can hear Kelia giving orders, “Kroraccor get the Comm, Doc, see if you can do anything for Ga-”

Another voice, far closer, interrupts, “Gao's dead Lieutenant, and 3rd Squad reports they just lost Private Linnoc'epp to a sniper.”

The communication cuts out after that, and as Static sounds over the line, Nilo turns to the deckplan, trying to figure out how to rescue Kelia's Platoon.

Cayden looked around and sighed heavily.  Why am I in the Medbay of the Chrome Fox? he asked himself, sitting up in the hospital bed.  Cayden looked in the chair next to him and saw Sarah Goldwater, Regent 6, reading something on her datapad.  "Sarah... how long have I been out?" he asked hoarsely.

Sarah sprung out of her chair and flew to the bed side.  "Sir!  I- I don't know..." she said, looking at the clock.  "Several hours, I imagine."

"What happened?" Cayden asked, reaching for his datapad.

She handed it to him and said "Your fighter was hit by an enemy missile.  Dead hit on the nose too.  It was a one-in-a-million shot, sir."

"Are you admiring the Rebels' ability to hit small targets at great distances?" Cayden asked, smirking at the corner of his mouth.

"No sir, just stating the facts," she said quickly, her face getting red.

"Sarah, I have a question," Cayden said, replaying that last shot on his datapad.

"Yes sir?" she said.

"What's your opinion of me... as your commander?" he asked, looking up at her.

"Well, sir... you're not like any commander I've ever had.  First, you requested me to ransfer from being a ship's Chief Medical Officer to a Squadron Medic.  That kinda requires either stupidity or bravery... or both.  Second, you throw our squadron into a very bizarre training simulation, after which we're thrown into a combat situation flying fighters we have no business flying.  And, finally... sir, you have a knack for getting shot down," she said.

Cayden stared at her and smiled.  "Good... cause, if I was anything less, our mission would have surely failed," he said.  "Sarah... I need you to rejoin the rest of the squadron."

"Sir, with all due respect, I don't think-" she started.

"Sarah, I'm your commanding officer.  Rejoin Regents Squadron in combat.  That's an order," he said sternly.  "Is that understood?"

She saluted.  "Yes sir."

"Good.  Now... before you leave... I need to know something... am I fit for battle right now?" he asked.

Sarah looked over Cayden's vitals and his chart, then frowned.  "Sir, you suffered several breaks on both your legs, not to mention one on your right forearm.  It's a wonder you're not dead, sir.  Seeing as you are the only person in the Navy to deny bacta treatments, you're going to be out of the cockpit for days, if not several weeks," she said.

Cayden frowned then said "Thank you, Sarah."

Sarah left the room, leaving Cayden to his thoughts.

Ever since Cayla left, it's been rather empty in my head... he thought, silently laughing at the fact he just called himself stupid.  "I wonder how Regents is doing..." he said to himself, turning the holo-display on in his room.

==3 Deck, Bothan Pride==
2nd Lieutenant Bosrkkal turns to look at his Field Communication Specialist, Lance Corporal Larlak Lekkdup, “Corp, get me Captain Vera on the horn.”

“Yes, sir.”

Turning back to his third squad commander, Corporal Jowtacca, and issues orders to the wookie Squad Leader, “J'tacca, your squad is going to remain here on this deck, and keep this area secured, I'm requesting orders from Company Command for the rest of the Platoon.”

Lekkdup speaks into the handset, and then covers the mouthpiece after receiving a response. “Lieutenant, Captain's on the horn.”

Bosrkkal takes the handset and addresses Vera, “Captain, we've got the section of 3 Deck that we can access completely secured, it is merely the cargo bays, and there is no enemy presence, I am leaving my 3rd Squad here to keep it secure, but the rest of the platoon is available for further assignment.”

“Come up to 2 Deck, I'm going to have you assist 2nd Platoon we have to make our way up to the forward lift, it's going to be to costly to try and go up the aft lift, 1st Platoon is encircled up there.”

“Yes sir, I'll coordinate with Lieutenant Fokkwyr on that.”

==1 Deck==

Corporal Eemeq Uker quickly changes out the magazine on his E-11, ducking behind the corner of the quarters that his squad has taken cover in, “Gunbrac, what's the situation?”

“They're pushing from both sides Corporal, I'm not sure how much longer we-”

The Private First Class' report, and life, are cut short as a blaster bolt from one of the enemy blasters finds his neck. Another bolt slams into Uker's shoulder, and he goes down groaning in pain. He hears a voice from the hallway outside, “You in the Quarters, put down your weapons and come out with your hands up!”

In the quarters she and the rest of the platoon are using for cover, Lieutenant Orott hears the call from the rebels, asking for their surrender, she is about to issue another order when a grenade, lobbed by one of the rebels down the hall, explodes right outside the quarters, she is protected from the worst of the blast by Privates Chito and Roahur Dinarrl, who being closer take the full force of the explosion, their lifeless bodies hitting the deck and the shrapnel caused by the explosion hissing through the air and injuring her. Crying out in pain it takes her a moment to compose herself enough to issue orders, while at the same time Lance Corporal Oirr Thoine, the platoon medic, does what she can to take care of the shrapnel wounds.

==Deck 2==

Captain Nilo Vera turns to Lance Corporal Ardus, “Corp, what is 1st Platoon's situation?”

“1st Platoon reports 9 KIA, 4 WIA, the Rebels are trying to get them to surrender”

“How far out is Alpha Team, A Company, 4th Battalion?”

“They just boarded via the cargo loading hatches on 3 Deck Captain.”

“Have Lieutenant Nexran get up here.”

“Aye Sir”

Vera turns to see Lieutenants Bosrkkal and Shoykam enter the command center, “Captain, you wanted to see us?”

“Yes, as you probably have heard, First Platoon is pinned down and taking heavy casualties, we need to get to the forward lift so that we can get a reinforcement platoon up. We have a team of commandos from 4th Battalion that have just arrived, they are going to try and get a couple of fireteams up to 1 Deck to reinforce the platoon until we can get to them. Lieutenant Nexran should be here soon to get an update on the locations of the Platoon.”

“What do you need us to do?”

“3rd Platoon is going to secure the initial length of corridor in between us and the other lift, as well as get the Mission Operations center, or whatever they replaced it with, secured. 4th Platoon will get forward and secure the lift, 2nd Platoon is then gonna push through toward the bridge, while one of the squads from the commando team goes up the lift first, then 4th Platoon will follow them up.”

==2 Deck==
1st Lieutenant Zaler Nexran looks over the situation map, the helmet of his Katarn Clone Commando suit resting on the table next to him, while outside the rest of his team checks their weapons and prepares for their coming assignment. “Captain, do we have any word on the number of enemies we can expect to engage when we come off of those lifts?”

Nilo Vera leans over the table as well and begins to point out various locations, “On 1 Deck there should be no one present by the forward lift, although on the other side of the lift station it is expected that there will be at least two security guards, who will be guarding the turret control room which is between the forward lift and 1st Platoon's current location.” he points to the turret control room, “Unless they have taken casualties, the control room should be manned by about 18 men.” he points to the room by the aft lift, “The aft lift has between 6 and 8 Marines, with the area beyond 1st Platoon's location having anywhere from 20 to 40 men.”

Nexran nods, “1st Platoon's commander is injured correct?”

“That is correct.”

“Then I will go with 1st Squad up the aft lift, while 2nd Squad will head up the forward lift.”

“How soon can you go?”

“Give me three minutes to brief my team, and we'll be on our way.”

“Very good, I'm going to order 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Platoons to make their attacks forward now, we'll let you know as soon as the way is clear.”

“Roger that sir.”

Just forward of the mess hall turned command center, 2nd Lieutenant Fokkwyr nods to 3rd Platoon to go, and 2nd Lieutenant Bosrkkal motions his platoon forward through the doors.

“Clear right” reports Private Gerkur, 1st Squad's point man.

“Clear left” echoes Private First Class Legtor, point man for 2nd Squad

Bosrkkal motions to each squad to enter the Mission Operations Center, and they burst through the doors as the 1st and 2nd Squads of 2nd Platoon rush past, heading to secure the far ends of the corridors.

The Marines of 3rd Platoon open fire as they enter the room, quickly taking out 4 of the 6 rebels in the center, with only the loss of Private First Class Artu'la who caught a blaster bolt in the chest as she turned left entering the room. Moving forward Privates Gerkur and Loodro disarm the remaining two rebels and take them into custody, slapping energy cuffs on their wrists, while Lance Corporal Retru, the platoon medic, bandages up Staff Sergeant Torra Is'kji's arm where a blaster bolt had made a glancing hit.

“Lieutenant,” reports Sergeant Clercle Lekkna, “Objective is secure, 2nd Platoon moving in to secure forward of lift.”

There's a burst of blasterfire from the end of the corridor and the voice of Staff Sergeant Nooool'sin, 2nd Platoon, 1st Squad Leader crackles over their helmet comms “Forward lift secure, 3 enemy dead, we have 1 W.I.A. if we can get a medic it would be appreciated.”

“Roger that Staff Sergeant, 2nd Platoon's medic is on the way forward, and a Commando Squad is heading your way as well.”

“Copy sir.”

Back by the temporary Company Headquarters, 1st Lieutenant Nexran nods to Sergeant First Class Kraria to get moving with her squad toward the front of the ship, and motions to his squad, “Fireteam 2, board lift, remember plan, move out.”

Sergeant Trbus Norprin, Corporal Lemel Narus, and Private First Class Morax Thratrayn board the rear lift, crouching low to the ground they hit the button to head up to 1 Deck, and as the door shuts CPL Narus drops a smoke grenade, filling the lift with smoke and orders, “switch helmets to IR pickups.”

==1 Deck==

The Private taking cover near the lift yells out, “Sarge, someone's coming up the lift.”

Immediately the Sarge issues orders, “Firing positions, fill the inside of that thing with blaster fire the instant the door opens.”

“Aye Sarge,” Four of the six immediately train their weapons on the door of the lift, while the other two keep up their fire which has the survivors of 1st Platoon pinned down.

As the door opens smoke billows from inside the lift, completely obscuring the view of those outside of the lift as they open fire on the lift, however they never have a chance, the blaster fire passes harmlessly over the heads of the crouching fireteam as they dive out of the lift in the smoke, the IR units of their helmets guiding them in on the enemies. Norprin is on the Sergeant instantly, his suits blades finding their mark on the neck chest and stomach of the Rebel soldier as around him Narus and Thratrayn do the same, using their blades instead of their blasters so that there is nothing but the screams of their injured and dying comrades for the other rebels in the room to home in on. As the smoke clears it reveals the three commandos standing over the fallen forms of the six Rebel Marines, and Sergeant Trbus Norprin lifts his comm unit to his face, “Fireteam 2 reports Objective Foxtrot Tango is secure, Negative Contact, bring up the rest of the team, we're heading to link up with 3rd Squad.”

“Copy that, on our way up, we'll head over and hook up with the other three squads.”

==Fearless, Bridge==

“Gunnery, how is the Defiance faring?”

“They're holding their own at the moment Captain, but they have taken several direct hits from the Flare and also they have a Customs Frigate engaging them as well.”

“Take us in to engage the Flare, status report on boarding action of the Bothan Pride?”

“Reports indicate they control roughly 1/3rd of the ship, casualties moderate.”

“Very Good”

As Gamma flight readied themselves for the task ahead of them, Flight Leader Senior Crewman Fianna Rehal looked all around her, surveying the current situation as well as making sure that all of Gamma Flight was accounted for.  Being a Flight Leader was a huge responsibility, one that she wasn’t sure she could handle. Now that she’d been filling the position for a little while she found herself to be quite comfortable. At times things were stressful but in general everything worked out well.

Radio chatter got her attention, there were a few X-Wings headed their way, and she knew that it wasn’t any of the other flights coming to join them.

“Guys, we’ve got company!” she shouted into the comm., at the same time she honed in on the nearest fighter and once she had a lock on it, let out a salvo.  As the fighter broke apart and debris floated in vacuum, the fighters that had accompanied it began its assault on Fianna and her Flight.  In no time however, they were all taken care of and she and the others with her suffered minimal damage.

As she was about to give out orders for everyone to get to the shipyards and get to work a transmission came over the comm.

“Regent Six to Regent Nine, I’ve been asked to rejoin in the fighting”

As she recognized Sarah’s voice, Fianna’s thoughts went to Amacuse, who had been shot down earlier. Not wasting any time, she keyed her comm.

“Good to have you back Six, how’s Lead doing?”

“He’ll be fine but he’ll be out of action for a while”

“Well, maybe he needs it. One day he’ll have one accident too many…Alright well, get in formation and let’s get going”

“What are we to do? Last I heard we were to take care of taking out the weapons emplacements”

“And that is still our objective, we haven’t had the chance to get to that as of yet. We just got rid of some uninvited company”

“Roger that”

“Guys, listen up! This will most likely be tricky work; we have to put any weapons emplacements we locate out of commission. Sounds straightforward and simple, but I’m telling you right now; it’s not going to be- at all!”

After she had received acknowledgments that her orders had been received, she maneuvered her vessel to make a loop around the shipyards, taking care to not attract too much attention but at the same time stayed around long enough to quickly study what was there, she made sure everyone with her did the same.

“You guys get all that?” Fianna queried. She wanted to make sure they were all on the same page, he last thing they needed was to be spread out all over the place and to potentially lose more people than was necessary.

“On my mark, we’re going in. Watch for any enemy fighters and make sure you try and not get hit by any stray bolts. I noticed numerous turrets and a few emplacements where rail guns could be stationed on this side of things, they may be stashing missile launchers and god knows what else that we haven’t noticed on our initial pass.”

When she gave the go-ahead, she and the rest of Gamma flight started off for the shipyard a little ways away from their current position. Right after she had given out her orders they had planned out whom was going to be aiming for what. They also paired up and Fianna had chosen Sarah as her partner.  As they sped toward the rail gun emplacement Fianna had spotted, she opened a private comm. channel and asked a few questions about Amacuse’s status. Something told her that she hadn’t been told the whole truth initially and she wanted to know his condition in more detail.

“How’s Lead doing? And please be honest”

“He’s not in very good shape, suffered several fractures to the legs as well as one on his forearm, and he refuses bacta treatments so he’ll be out for at least a few weeks”
“Thanks for the let-know. Now let’s have ourselves a bit of fun and create a bit of mayhem”

As she said these words she fired off a volley at the nearest rail gun and watched as it exploded, which made her grunt satisfactorily.  As she leveled up and rolled to go back on the path she had taken and start on any other emplacements, she was aware of Sarah following her exact maneuvers, being careful to stay behind her Flight Leader’s craft and provide cover from behind.

As they flew over a second time, shooting at any turrets and rail gun emplacements they could find, Fianna was aware that something wasn’t right. As she surveyed her immediate surroundings, she saw a large number of enemy fighters headed their way.

“Here comes the welcoming committee…” she muttered to herself with a sigh. “Sarah, get ready. We’ve got company, I’m afraid they’re more that we can handle so focus on getting as many as you can, but always be mindful of the weapons emplacements as we only managed to take out a few”

“Roger that, Nine”

As she went through the short list of options that she had at her disposal, she came to the realization that they would need more manpower, and soon.

“Gamma Flight here, we’re having a bit of a hard time taking
out the weapons emplacements encountering heavy opposition. If anyone can get over here and help us out if would be much appreciated. We can hold ‘em off for a bit longer so feel free to finish up what you’re doing first.”

After ending the transmission, she continued systematically shooting down fighters, hoping reinforcements would come soon.

As yet another rebel fighter exploded in an expanding ball of fire and blackened metal, Maroy grinned. That's one more fighter down, only a handful to go. She spun her ship around and dove for an A-Wing, but a emerald quad blast got there first. What the... an Interceptor? I didn't think the other squadrons had launched yet. Her comm pinged at her, and the unidentified TIE was quickly out of sight.

[[Regent Three, this is Six. Returning to the battle as per Lead's orders.]]

"Good to have you back, Sarah. No hope of Amacuse rejoining us today?"

[[None, he got smashed up pretty badly. He even refused bacta.]]

"That's too bad, we could really use his help right now. Anyway, go rejoin Beta and Gamma over by the shipyards."

[[As ordered.]]

As Six flew towards the New Republic installation, the Twi'lek switched over to Alpha's channel. "Michele, help me with these Y-Wings."

At least Intelligence bothered to rearm the torp launchers on these X-Wings... She switched over to secondary weapons and locked onto the leftmost Y-Wing in a wave headed for the Dead Gun. The slow-moving bomber tried to roll out of the way, but the missile caught up to it in seconds. The blast took down the ship's shields and knocked it into its wingman, completely crushing the former's starboard engine housing and blocking the way of several of the bombers.

[[Rrregents, this is Vengeance squadrron and the 24th TIE Avenger Squadrron. We'll take the bomberrs from here.]]

"Took ya long enough, Ruwe, I was beginning to think you all had taken a nap or something."

The Wookiee chuckled, and Maroy watched as two full squadrons of TIE Interceptors and Avengers came at the disarrayed Y-Wings and begin systematically tearing them to pieces.

[[Gamma Flight here, we’re having a bit of a hard time taking out the weapons emplacements encountering heavy opposition. If anyone can get over here and help us out if would be much appreciated. We can hold ‘em off for a bit longer so feel free to finish up what you’re doing first.]]

"Gamma, we're on our way. Alpha, Beta, we're moving to assist."

The remaining members of the first two flights formed up: Regents Two, Three, Four, Five, and Seven. They flew in formation until they reached the huge dogfight developing around the shipyards themselves. Turret emplacements were trying to shoot down the small fighters, but even X-Wings had enough speed to dodge the blasts. That leaves a lot less attention for the fighting itself, though...

"Nine, take your flight and keep working at those turrets. We'll buy you some time."

[[Ma'am...]]

"Get it done, Senior Crewman, that's an order. The mission comes first."

If the woman replied, it was lost in the chaos of the battle erupting around them. It was nearly impossible to tell friend from foe except for the occasional A-Wing. She better get those emplacements killed fast... we're dead unless the capships can get their fighters organized in time.

Cayden watched Maroy rejoin the rest of the squadron over the shipyards on the holo-display and he smiled.  So some reinforcements have decided to arrive... excellent.  Time for me to get out there...

Cayden grabbed bis datapad when a message appeared on the screen.  Cayden pressed the 'play' button.

[[One unread message for: Master Chief Petty Officer Cayden Tavers.  "You had better not be trying to get back into the battlefield, sir.  If I do find out, I'll have you confined to quarters for a month.  Doctor's orders.  Petty Officer Second Class Sarah Goldwater out."  End of messages]]

Cayden smiled and said "Sarah... I'll take that confinement anyday of the week, so long as Regents survives to fly again another day."  He grabbed his TIE Pilot flight suit and helmet, sat down in a hoverchair, and glided out of the room.

He carefully made his way to the hangar bay and right next to his TIE Interceptor.  I missed you.  ow, we shall become one once more, and cleanse those that are impure he thought, increasing his altitude in the chair.  He positioned it above the cockpit opening and carefully lowered himself down into the cockpit.  He sealed it shut above him and began powering the fighter up.  "All green lights, ready for battle," he said, turning the comm on.  "Chrome Fox, this is Regent 1.  I am ready to return to the battle," he said into the comm.

[[Copy, Regent 1.  We have you listed as 'unfit for duty', confirm.]]

"Negative Chrome Fox.  I am fit for duty, regardless of what my medical files may say," he said, his finger hovering over the laser cannon trigger.

[[Very well, Regent 1.  Opening hangar bay doors now.  You are cleared for departure.]]

"Thank you, Chrome Fox.  Regent 1 out," he said, tuning into the squadron channel.  He hit the throttle hard, and the fighter accelerated out of the hangar, leaving the Chrome Fox behind.  He attempted to push the accelerator with his right arm when pain shot up through it.  He pulled it back quickly and swore under his breath.  Alright... switching to left-handed controls... he thought, pressing a few buttons to invert the controls.  He pushed the accelerator forward with his left arm and smiled when the fighter responded accordingly.  Now... let's see how I fly left-handed...

Cayden located a pair of Y-Wings racing towards the Chrome Fox, and he turned to dive at them.  He noticed that his ability to accelerate and turn were severely hampered and cursed at his inability to forsee this.  He pulled his datapad out and plugged it into the fighter's computer.  He downloaded a program onto the computer and smiled when he recieved the confirmation.  He attached a reciever to his helmet comm unit and smiled when the fighter's computer acknowledged the uplink.  He thought about accelerating as he turned the fighter and grinned broadly when it responded appropriately.  I just added a neural uplink into a TIE Interceptor... I'm insane... he thought, smiling as he lit up the black of space with two beautiful explosion clouds that used to be Y-Wings.

He turned towards the shipyards and acclelerated when a trio of A-Wings hopped on his tail and began firing at him.  Cayden frowned when one of the laser blasts glanced off his delfector shields.  He turned the fighter around and when he was about to press the trigger, the Interceptor's laser cannons opened fire.  Holy-!  I didn't touch the trigger!  ... The program seems to have affected weapons control too... he thought, frowning at the sudden burst of laser fire from his fighter.

The Interceptor caught one of the A-Wings in a flurry of laser cannon fire, then quickly moved to dispatch the other when it just stopped.  Cayden quickly grabbed the controls and dispatched the last A-Wing.  Well... so much for neural interfacing... he thought, grabbing the yoke with his right hand.  I just hope I can fly this thing half as good as I normally do... if I do, I just might survive this battle...

Cayden surveyed the battlefield and located Regents Squadron.  He smiled, flipped on the comm, and raced to the shipyards.  "Regents Squadron, this is Regents Lead.  Continue the attack on the shipyards.  I'll fly a defensive screen to prevent any fighters from getting to you," he said, smiling.  "Maroy, form up on my six!  We're going Reshie Hunting!"

OOC:
WC: 732

I'm back in the fight.  I with that neural interface worked properly, but... it's programmed for larger ships, not fighters.  Cayden will fly decently during the rest of the fight, so long as his delayed reflexes prevent him from dying.

The Amaranth moved closer to the Wambadu, which started to fire when the Amaranth got within its range.  The shields dropped down to 50% from the assault.  The Amaranth engines flared signaling the 324th to engage.  The 324th took off from behind the Amaranth and began their assault.

~~~342th~~~
Baen Sidhe squad pulled past the Amaranth after they received the signal.  The squad quickly got to the ship and fired the last two missiles and a barrage of lasers ripping through the shield dropping them down to 65%.
Half of the Wambadu lasers cannons focused on the Amaranth the other half were firing at the 324th.  The Wambadu fired at Baen Sidhe 7, and smashed through the shields blowing it into pieces.  The rest of the laser cannons were shooting at the rest of the squad but they only glanced off the shields.
Baen Sidhe Lead this is Bean Sidhe 6, I’ve taken a hit and my sensors are down.”
“Roger 6.”
~~~ Amaranth~~~

“Sir, Bean Sidhe 6 was hit and lost his sensors.” Jaeron told Arthur.

“Ok, send a message to Baen Sidhe lead tell him that after this fight they are to return to the Fearless to repair and rearm.” Arthur

He sent the message to Master Chief Quelayen.  They received a message that simply stated roger.  The Amaranth took a few more hits dropping the shields to 45%.  Arthur looked over at the weapons statics and saw that they had two missiles left.

“Fire the remaining missiles at the Wambadu.”

One of the missiles released and launched from the tube and smashed in to the Wambadu.  The other missile was now armed and jammed into the launch tube.  A warning light began to flash above the gunners’ heads.

“Sir, one of the missiles is jammed in the launch tube, and it is active I need to remove the warhead before it blows in here.”  Jonathan Nion reported to Arthur.

“Do whatever you need Petty Officer we’re in your hands.” Arthur told him, “If you need anything let me know.”

“Will do Sir, I’ll keep you updated on the situation.”  Jonathan said.  He then transferred the control to Ferth Wazz, and went to go remove the warhead.

~~~Amaranth Missile Bay Crawl Space~~~
Jonathan crawled through the small hole and was trying not to get caught on any of the wires.  He went over a tube and found the missile launch tubes.  He reached into his tool kit and grabbed a hydrospanner he began to open the first tube to see if the live missile was there.  He moved closer to the tube to access the other side.  When he removed all the screws he slowly removed the metal top and set it next to the tube.  He looked in and saw that the tube was empty, and closed the tube back up.
He climbed over the tube he just resealed and move to the next.  He removed the screws and did the same to this tube.  He found the missile and saw that it was almost out of the tube.  He grabbed thermal glove and began to slowly pull it back so he could access the warhead.  He was very careful as he then pulled it out of the tube.  He found the warhead and began to slowly take it off the rocket.  He placed the warhead nose down and disarmed the warhead.
“Sir, the warhead is disarmed I’m heading back to my turret.” Jonathan said.
“Good job, when this mission is over I’ll buy you a drink.”  Arthur said.
The Amaranth with the help of the 324th dropped the shields down to 10%.  Both the Amaranth and Baen Sidhe squad launched another assault on the Wambadu hitting it right down the center of the ship splitting it in half.
Baen Sidhe squad return to the Fearless to rearm and repair, and hurry back we still have one more Imperial Customs Frigate left.” Arthur said to the squad.
Slasher walks across the bridge and comes up behind Chief Warrant Officer Dinei, the Zabrak Chief of Fighter Operations is coordinating with the docking bays below to facilitate the retrieval, repair, and rearming of the various fighters.
“Status of our Fighter Wing Chief?”
“Captain, the 324th has lost Beta 3, the 20th has lost Alpha 3 and Beta 4, the 29th and 52nd each lost a bomber as well.”
“Ok, what is their status of rearming and repairing?”
“324th is going to be able to put out 10 fighters, Gamma 3 was hit pretty badly and is gonna need a full solar panel replacement, probably gonna take about 30 minutes. 20th and 24th should be good to go with their remaining fighters as soon as they are refueled and power cells replaced, about 4 minutes.”
“The bomber squadrons?”
“The 29th will be able to head out with 8 bombers in about 12 minutes, the 52nd will be set to head out with 11 in 15 minutes. Gamma flight of the 29th was severely beat up, they lost one fighter, and the other three came back looking like swiss cheese, may be a couple hours before they are ready to head out.”
“Very good, get them back out there and fighting as soon as possible, what is the status of Ven-” Slasher is cut off as the entire ship shudders and collision alarms begin to sound, he whirls to face Helin at the helm, “Evasive action Helmsman. Sensors, what the hell was that?”
“Captain, the other Nebulon-B just micro-jumped in right next to us, we had no warning, they opened fire both with their own weapons, and they launched a squadron of old Y-Wings just as they came out of hyperspace. Their turbolasers disabled half of our anti-starfighter guns on that side, the bombers are currently making a run on our guns.”
“I want Damage and Casualty reports, ASAP.”
==CR-90 Bothan Pride, 2 Deck==
Captain Nilo Vera sits back and breaths a sigh of relief as reports begin to come in that the 3rd Platoon has been reinforced, and there are additional forces coming in. “Orsiri, get me Lieutenant Shoykam on the line.”
“Aye Captain.”
Vera looks over the situation map quickly deciding on a redeployment of his forces on board the Corvette,
“Captain, Lieutenant Shoykam,” Lance Corporal Orsiri hands him the handset for the communications unit.
“Lieutenant, a change of plans, we're gonna pull you back from supporting the 2nd Platoon, I think they have things well in hand, and 3rd Platoon should be able to help them if they need assistance. I'm going to send your platoon up to 1 Deck to reinforce and help Lieutenant Orott's platoon.”
“Aye sir, I'll get my men moving right away.”
“Very good”
Shoykam turns to Staff Sergeant Clingel, his 1st Squad leader, “You heard the captain, take your squad up first, report to Lieutenant Orott for orders on where to deploy, I'll be following with the remaining squads in just a moment.”
“Aye Lieutenant,” She turns to her squad, motions them to follow, and runs over to the lift, quickly going aboard and they board and begin their ride up.
==1 Deck==
Lieutenant Orott looks up as Lieutenant Nexran enters the room, supporting one of his commandos who has been injured and helping them over to the bed, letting them sit down while Lance Corporal Thoine walks over and setting down her medical kit on the bed, she reaches inside and grabs what she needs to bind the wound and set the broken leg. “What happened here Corporal?” she asks the injured commando.
“Went hand to hand with one of the enemy marines, the goddamn wookie broke my leg like a Ouch! twig after slashing me with this blade of his.”
“Did you get him?”
“Didn't get the chance to, apparently he was the one who killed Chito, that wookie PFC from your 2nd Squad was on him before I even got up.”
“Well that's set, unfortunately I don't think you're going to be much use on the front lines, recommend you remain in place here until you can be safely evacuated.”
“As ordered Doc.”
The medic turns back to Private Chenara and checks the dressing on his wound, not very happy with what she sees she walks over to Lieutenant Orott and addresses her in a low voice, “Ma'am, Private Chenara is looking real bad, unless we get him into a bacta tank within 30 minutes I doubt he's gonna make it, we need to stage an emergency pull out if possible.”
“I'll get on it. Frokkha, get me Captain Vera.”
Lieutenant Nexran turns as Staff Sergeant Clingel enters the room with the rest of her squad and salutes. “Staff Sergeant Clingel, 1st Squad, 4th Platoon. Ordered to report to Lieutenant Orott for orders on deployment.”
Nexran turns to Orott and raises an eyebrow, which the injured Lieutenant understands perfectly. “Sergeant, Lieutenant Nexran is going to show you to your assignment.”
“Yes Ma'am”
The Mon Calamari Staff Sergeant follows Nexran as he leaves the room where the platoon is currently headquartered, seeing his fireteams doing room to room searches farther down the corridor with the remaining healthy members of 1st Platoon that had been here, “Staff Sergeant,” the Commando Lieutenant begins, “Your squad is going to reinforce what is left of 3rd Squad, they have all been wounded or killed, and they have been currently reinforced by one of my fireteams, how many men are heading up besides your squad?”
“The entire 4th Platoon, 2nd Squad should be coming up right,” right on cue the lift arrives as they enter the lift chamber, and the 5 members of 2nd Squad come off of the lift, “now.” finishes Clingel.
“Sergeant...?”
“Frekron Sir,” responds the leader of 2nd Squad
“Sergeant Frekron, take your squad and reinforce the fireteams doing room clearing down that corridor, when your third squad arrives have them report to me.”
“Aye sir.”
==Bridge, Fearless==
2nd Lieutenant Slasher turns as Nuee'lan comes up beside him, “Yes Number One?”
“I have the damage and casualty reports,”
“Yes?”
“23 Dead, mostly crews of the PDL batteries that were targeted, and severe damage to those batteries, moderate damage to hull plating surrounding that area, and we have a minor hull breach on the dorsal hull surface where a Y-Wing clipped us and crashed into the already weakened hull from the earlier attack. We have 12 crewmen being treated in Sickbay right now for vacuum exposure, and we have 3 crewmen missing from that compartment's duty crew, we assume they got sucked out after the impact, but we will have to do a sweep post battle to locate their bodies.”
“Ok, status of the Nebulon-B?”
“Moderate damage, a couple of alert Turbolaser crews scored some hits on them as they were coming out of hyperspace as well, and we've been exchanging fire since then, we're about evenly matched, although the Flare has broken off its engagement with the Defiance and is heading this way.”
Shuttle to Abrae.
11 ABY
Six standard hours ago
Kazack leaned back in the comfortable, reclining pilot’s chair of the shuttle as it approached the world of Abrae. Feels good to be home he reflected as he settled further into the chair. He had been reassigned, for reasons unknown to him, to the flagship of Taskforce Besh, The Fearless was a brand new, freshly commissioned warship which hadn’t even been fire tested. The Fearless’s commander. 2nd Lieutenant Slasher, was completely unknown to Kazack as the two of them hadn’t even met before. He knew that Slasher had been a fighter pilot in Phoenix Wing who had been reassigned when the vicious and gruesome attack on Naval High Command had occurred. I think everyone had at least some shuffling of position or role Kazack thought. Kazack saw up ahead the large warship, whose transponder supplied its name. There she is Kazack thought, Guess I’d better land and introduce myself. As punched in the landing codes Commodore Atrasin had given him when he left the Iron Duke, Kazack thought as to how his role aboard the Fearless would be different from his role aboard the Duke. Probably not much, he thought wryly as he knew he would be in exactly the same position as he had been on his previous posting, just a different ship. He landed his ship, grabbed his duffel bag from the back of the shuttle and set off to the bridge to meet the captain.
Bridge of the Fearless
As Kazack supplied his identification to the guards on the bridge, he thought about how his superiors would treat him. Let’s hope their better then the commodore Kazack thought careful not to speak his thoughts aloud. “Your all clear Petty Officer,” The guard said and opened the sealed door to the bridge. I wouldn’t be if he knew what I was thinking Kazack thought.
Bridge of the Fearless
“Petty Officer 1st Class Fremen ‘Kazack’ Talla reporting for duty sir” Kazack said as he saluted Slasher.
“Petty Officer Kazack, it is good to see you, according to your transfer records you’re to serve as a general bridge officer.” Slasher replied as he too saluted.  Kazack quickly sat at the place where Slasher motioned too and brought up the galactic map. “Where are we jumping too?” Kazack asked the Bridge Officer next to him. “Belgaroth System.” The man replied without taking his eyes off the computer. So much for making conversation Kazack thought, Ah well, we’ll have to wait until after the battle, assuming there is a battle. He then located the Belgaroth System on the map and a series of coordinates flashed up on the main screen as Slasher ordered the crew to battle stations.
Five minutes ago
Kazack saw the shipyards of the Belgaroth System up ahead, it’s communications gear destroyed, the orders came over the comm, Taskforce Besh was to engage the stations defending ships and destroy or drive them off. As the ship took shots at the Bothan’s Pride and tractor beamed the vessel in, Kazack sat there, fiddling with his fingernails. Calm down, he told himself mentally You will get your chance. Captain Gorma gestured to him off of one side and said. “Can  you run us into battle against the Flare?”
“Of course sir” Kazack replied, eager to do the job he had been trained to do.
Kazack found himself on the head of the ships steering gear, and began gently steering the warship into battle against the Flare
“Weapons, I want a broadside on the starboard side of the Flare ASAP” Captain Gorma said as he  quickly checked the status of the ship. Suddenly, the ship shuddered under impacting ordinance which vibrated up through the deck of the bridge. “Sensors what the hell was that?” Slasher asked, the reply was quick and Slasher replied “I want damage and casualty reports ASAP”
“Petty Officer return to your post, you’ve done well flying the ship for part of the way.”
“Thank you sir” Kazack replied saluting as he returned to his station.
“Sir! The Flare has broken off from her engagement with the Defiance , she’s coming about to attack.” Another Bridge Officer yelled
“Let’s give them a broadside then”  Slasher replied.
The Flare  attempted to edge up along side the Fearless  but it was to late to save them from a massive broadside.
“Weapons, Status” Slasher asked. “Locked on sir and ready to fire” The Weapons Officer replied.
“Fire” Slasher ordered briefly.
The Flare’s  starboard shields were strong for a ship of it’s class. But not quite strong enough. The missiles impacted. Shields buckled and fell inflicting, massive damage to the starboard side of the ship which quickly shattered the starboard cargo hold, making a large hull breach there. There was also weapons damage on that side too.
Kazack reported as much to Slasher before the other Bridge Officer’s could even think. “Very well, Weapons, ready yourselves for another broadside” The captain said.
Ellesmere was surprised to hear Cayden’s voice over the comm. I thought he was going to be out of commission for a while…Unless he managed to fool some people and rejoin in the fighting  while still being injured? In any case she didn’t much care right now, Lead was back and that’s all that mattered. As she watched he maneuvered his Interceptor a little closer to their current position and she heard static over the comm. as he spoke up once more.
“Maroy, form up on my six we’re going Reshie hunting!”
What about me? Michele thought to herself as she watched Maroy obey Lead’s command. “The rest of you, I trust you can handle things here quite nicely”
As she watched in disbelief, Sarah broke off from formation and sped off to find their Squadron Commander. “Cayden! What DID I tell you?! You’re supposed to be in Sickbay resting!...You’re NOT fit for any kind of fighting, you  can get yourself killed in the most stupid ways! How the HELL are yo even piloting that thing?!”
Michele couldn’t take it anymore; she tweaked a bit with her throttle and sped off toward Sarah, amidst all the commotion and chatter managed to get a few words of her own in. “Sarah, you’re not doing any better right now. The way you’re going you’re probably going to smash into the most insignificant, inanimate object there is out here. If you’re going to be going at him, do it somewhere else other than a fighter. He’s here now, there’s nothing you can do about it so simmer down, pilot your X-Wing like you did in the simulator and leave what you want to unleash on him for later.
"Regents, this is the Fearless. We're having a slight problem with our anti-fighter defences. Can you send anyone to relieve us of these bombers?"
“Roger that Fearless, reinforcements are on their way”
As she reached Sarah, Michele found herself in proximity of some Reshies. Without wasting any time, she started firing away, as did everyone else. Little by little, their numbers decreased and soon she heard Cayden’s voice over the comm.  “Maroy, Michele, Sarah; go and help out the Fearless, I’ll be fine here for now.”
Even though they were a short distance away from one another as well as in separate cockpits, Michele could tell Sarah was not thrilled by the orders she had been given. Opening a private comm. channel with the other woman, Michele began reasoning with her.
“There’s nothing you can do about him right now, I know he disobeyed your orders of bed rest but he’s in a fighter now and there’s nothing you can do to force him back into Sickbay. With that in mind, I’m sure he’s thinking about what hell you’ll be giving him once we’re back on the Fox and he’s mentally stealing himself for it. Now let’s go and fulfill our orders, the rest will come later”
She could hear the other woman sigh resignedly over the comm., but saw with some satisfaction- and relief that Sarah had been listening to her every word and was headed toward the Fearless along with everyone else dispatched.
Tiberius glanced back at his sensors. It was covered with targets and was almost impossible to read. Plus He had to be careful about not shooting down any members of Regents, since they were flying enemy fighters. Luckily Vengeance was mainly taking out bombers, which no Regents were flying gladly.
>>[Form up behind me Vengeance. A small bomber squadron is trying to escape towards the enemy ships, and we're going to take them out]<<
>>Copy that<<
Tiberius turned his ship around and joined up with the members of his squad. They got into formation and started for the enemy bombers. They were a bit out of the way, but it was fine, considering that this squad had maybe 11 bombers in it. They were all heading towards the Amaranth.
>>[Ok guys. Stay in formation until they break off. Head for the leader]<<
>>Roger<<
Tiberius adjusted his fighter to be able to target the lead bomber. He wanted to make sure the leader was gone, so the bombers would be easy prey. After all, when the leader dies, the followers still tend to follow.
When they were in range, everyone shot the leader in a flurry of blaster fire. The bomber exploded almost instantaneously, and the surrounding bombers scattered.
>>[Break off! No bomber escapes us!]<<
>>Yea now the real fun begins<<
They broke off and started to chase down the scattered resistance. One by one they fell. Tiberius took out 3 of them in total, not including the leader. That, in his mind, was a joined effort, so the leader gets the kill. These bombers had very little firepower when it came to fighting TIEs.
>>Hey 2 got away! Should we pursue them?<<
>>[Sicario and Tiberius go after them, then regroup with us. Regents still needs out help.]<<
>>Copy that. We won’t be long<<
Tiberius and Sicario immediately broke off and headed for the bombers. Without a word they lined up behind their targets. They were closing fast when his sensors started to flash.
>>Sicario watch out!<<
Both fighters dodged what turned out to be some torpedoes. The torpedoes started to turn around, but lost their target and headed out for deep space. If Tiberius had waited another second the missiles would still be on his tail. It was a miracle that they turned in time.
>>Who shot those!?<<
Tiberius quickly glanced at his sensors
>>We have a few fighters on out tail. We can handle them<<
>>I will take out the bombers. You go back and take out those fighters. I will join you as soon as I can<<
Tiberius quickly turned around and headed straight for the fighters. There were 4 fighters, but Tiberius had predicted this. He immediately locked onto the closest fighter and fired two torpedoes. The enemy X-wing banked off, only to be taken out when they came around. The others soon started to fire on him, but Tiberius was too quick. They missed him for the most part. Some of them hit him, but his deflector shields took the damage.
>>Sicario where are you!? I have 1 on my tail, and the others 2 are trying to corner me!<<
>>On my way. Hold out for a few more seconds<<
Tiberius then got an idea. He headed straight for one of the enemy fighters so that he was on a collision course with it. The fighter following him was starting to lock onto his TIE Interceptor, but that was good. The fighter behind Tiberius launched a torpedo at him, and the fighter in front started to fire their blasters. Then, right before they hit him, he dove down in a dangerous maneuver.
It worked perfectly. The fighters took each other out, but at a cost. Tiberius’s TIE now had to restart. The strain of such a move nearly ripped the hull apart, but luckily only the engine stalled. Tiberius was dead in space, and the last fighter was closing in fast.
Then Sicario came to the rescue. He shot down the last fighter and waited for Tiberius to restart his fighter.
>>Tiberius do you read? Your fighters lost power, but you don’t look like you took to much damage<<
>>Yea I’m fine. My fighter stalled when I made that dive, but I’m back. My engines are running at only 92% power, which means I cant go as fast as the rest of you without stalling again.<<
>>That’s fine. Let’s get back in the fight. We’re needed back in the fight.<<
>>Ok lets go<<
"Chief, are we really going to take on that behemoth?"
"Us personally? Nope, we're simply not properly equipped to even attempt the feat. Our job is merely to provide cover for the bombers and boarding shuttles. In other words simple babysitting duty and nothing more. Oh, but make sure you don't fly too close to it though - those point defense lasers are far more dangerous to us than those massive turbolaser batteries..."
"Copy that sir. So we just have to take out any NR fighters that get close enough to us, huh?"
"Pretty much... Do remember however that a handful of friendlies are at the moment flying enemy ships. I doubt we'll encounter them and should they get anywhere close to us the brass we'll probably let us know about it. Still, try to first verify your targets using your IFF rather than relying on visual confirmation alone - you would not believe the amount of paperwork involved in friendly fire incidents..."
The squadron chatter, fun and enlightening as it may have been for some, was almost rudely cut short by a foreign voice:
"82nd Squadron you are cleared to launch. Repeat, you are cleared to launch. Good hunting out there!"
"Roger that, Control. 82nd Squadron is now taking off. Over!"
And just like that Seth pushed the Interceptor's yoke forward, forcing the maneuverable fighter our of the Dead Gun's hangars. It was almost a funny feeling in a way seeing how he was now back on the same capital ship he first served on... yet again departing to face some more enemies needing to be vaporized, the same as countless times in the past. Then again this time around he was no longer leaving those hangars as a simple pilot but as a CO, one burdened with the responsibility of eleven other lives.
Damn... now that is one big ship. Damaged or not it still poses a huge threat to our forces. One salvo from its main guns would rip right through those light cruisers. Two salvos would also be enough to either cripple or downright destroy some CR90s. Had these guys kept together and close to the shipyards then our efficiency would've been severely diminished as our escorts would've been unable to approach and stick around for long enough to make themselves useful. At least not in a capacity other than mere diversions and/or simple cannon fodder... Well, their crappy tactics - our better odds, so who am i to argue?
"Sir, i got enemy fighters deploying from the ISD."
"Morrre iiincomiiing frrrom two o'clock. ETAAA fourrrrtyyy seconnnds."
"Alright Shrikes, concentrate your fire on the ones already in range. Don't be afraid to deplete your missiles too soon as apparently the enemy is unlikely to receive any reinforcements. The sooner we take them out the safer the bombers and shuttles will be and the quicker our job will be done. With any luck we'll all make it back in time to savor this evening's special menu... whatever that may be."
"No offense Chief but yesterday's menu almost made me cry... and that was before i gathered enough courage to dig in it."
"You don't think i know that Banshee? I'm hoping that special is in fact code for edible..."
"I actually fooound the foood quiiite tasssty. I evvven asssked forrr sssecondsss."
Come to think of it the Trandoshan team member did linger longer in the mess hall the previous day. At the time Seth thought nothing of it... partly because he was too busy pondering on the possibility of there being a connection between the gruesome food and the ship's new captain especially considering the fact that the fish-people were known to have somewhat strange tastes in general.
A series of short beeps culminating with a single higher pitched one was enough to let the Onderonian pilot know that he had acquired a missile lock. Instinctively Qorbin pressed the tiny red button and a concussive missile began flying towards its intended target that very same second the targeting computer finished beeping. Moments later the squadron leader was able to see other similar missiles joining it, each of them meant to hit and hopefully take out an enemy craft. Hmm, this right here was one of the best moments a pilot could witness in a space battle - an entire squadron releasing a salvo of projectiles intended to either take out a bunch of small fighters or otherwise do some serious damage against a single large ship. Few other occurrences could beat this... except maybe the sight of those mentioned small fighters or lager ship blowing up in a cloud of light and smoke.
"Nicely done Shrikes. Remain in formation until we're upon them and then break off. We'll use two-on-one tactics to cut through them quicker. If you can take them out with your lasers then do so, but otherwise harass them until your wingman can get a solid lock. Rinse and repeat just like we practiced..."
Although this tactic may have had its origins in some present or long since forgotten navy, the variation Seth taught his squadron was somewhat different. The harassing pilot would continuously fire at its intended target whilst his/hers wingman would creep up on them and attempt to get a missile lock in all the commotion. In regular one-on-one fights it was often difficult to manage and lock on to the target mostly because the latter would know where to dodge. The advantage of a sneaky second fighter was that it could either take the target by surprise or on the contrary panic it enough for the harassing unit to finally get lucky. Either way - no more target to worry about it, and in the end that's what really mattered.
Need to take out as many of these fellows as possible before their pals join the fray...
Fianna watched as two X-Wings broke off from their assault on the shipyard and sped off in the opposite direction, she assumed to go and find Lead. She had heard him come over the comm. mere moments ago and was surprised that he had been allowed to fly, though she assumed that he  was there without the doc’s consent. As she took a more attentive glance, she noted that it was Sarah and Ellesmere. Ellesmere seemed to be chasing after Sarah; the latter didn’t seem to be flying her craft as well as she could have been.
“Hey, you two! What’s the rush?” queried Fianna as she watched their X-wings get smaller and smaller still.
“I’m not sure, Gamma Lead but I intend to find out. Only reason I broke formation is Sarah seems a little dangerous at present the way she’s flying things…”
“Regent Lead disobeyed my orders and left the Fox without medical clearance!” she heard Sarah roar over the com. Clearly, she was furious and most likely seeing red at this point so she let the two of them run off to rejoin Amacuse and turned her attention to the task at hand.
“OK everyone, we still have lots to do here while we’re waiting on the bombers to join us and help us out so try to not get shot down and keep going!”
As she spoke, she circled the shipyard and fired a few shots blindly. The first one hit a turbo-laser, the second one a nearby laser cannon. Seeing how well she was making out she peeled off a few more shots but only hit one more laser cannon. As she gained some altitude and circled the shipyard some more, she saw the rest of the Squadron following her lead and getting in some shots of their own.  In no time they had taken out of action five more laser cannons as well as six ion cannons. Not bad for our first full sweep of the field Fianna thought with a smile. She soon found herself frowning however; one of her sensors had picked up a few blips; which hadn’t been there moments before. Looks like we have company.. she thought as she let out a heavy, weary sigh.
“Gamma and Beta flights, be advised that we have company, and it’s not the friendly kind. Get in formation and gain some altitude over the shipyards, we’ll have to take these guys out while avoiding any bolts from any turrets or cannons. Now let’s get a move on, people!”
As she increased her speed, she quickly pulled back on the yoke sending her X-Wing in a steep, upward climb. As she pulled off the maneuver she hoped that she wouldn’t end up stalling; that was the last thing she needed at the moment. When she got finally leveled out, she didn’t waste any time looking for her squadron mates as well as the enemy fighters.
She didn’t have to wait too long; as she spotted the rest of Regents, she also saw the fighters that her sensors had picked up. There was a mix of X-Wings and A-Wings, at a glance she figured that there were probably a dozen more or less but she could be wrong, the only way to find out was to tart shooting them down and keeping track of who was in their sights…
[[Regents Squadron, this is Regents Lead.  Continue the attack on the shipyards.  I'll fly a defensive screen to prevent any fighters from getting to you. Maroy, form up on my six!  We're going Reshie Hunting!]]
I figured he'd try to pull something like this... one of these days he's going to get himself killed.
"Acknowledged, sir, but as your XO I'm obligated to tell you you'll probably get court-martialed for this."
[[Duly noted, and ignored. As long as my being here means more of my people live, it's worth it.]]
Maroy finally caught up to Amacuse's more maneuverable Interceptor and proceeded to chase after the rebel fighters with him when another message came in from the capital ship of Vengeance squadron.
[[Regents, this is the Fearless. We're having a slight problem with our anti-fighter defenses. Can you send anyone to relieve us of these bombers?]]
[[Roger that Fearless, reinforcements are on their way.]]
As her squadron leader began accelerating, Maroy grabbed his attention.
"Don't you dare fly over there, Amacuse. In your condition you'd be shot down in moments, not to mention giving them an obvious Imperial target. At least our X-Wings will trip them up a little."
[[Fine, fine... Go ahead, I'll keep watch over Beta and Gamma.]]
Amacuse switched back over to the squadron channel.
[[Maroy, Michele, Sarah; go and help out the Fearless, I’ll be fine here for now.]]
"Alright, you two form up on me. ETA to the Fearless thirty-seven seconds."
With her squadron-mates' S-Foils bracketing her display, Maroy dove toward the formation of Y-Wings moving for another bombing run. Switching to torpedoes, she got a lock on the leader at the same moment Michele and Sarah locked on to two others. Three torpedoes went spiraling down at the Republic fighters, impacting against the fighters' quickly overwhelmed shields.
"Now split formation, and watch out for those ion cannons."
Pushing against the slightly unfamiliar flight stick and going into a sharp dive, Maroy's X-Wing narrowly avoided two ion blasts. I guess those Y-Wing pilots are finally starting to catch on.
One of the fighters sharply turned around (well, as sharp as a Y-Wing can get) and re-directed its cannons towards her aft.
"Oh, no you don't!"
She grabbed around for a bit before she found the repulsorlift controls and sent her ship moving backwards and upwards towards the Y-Wing. The sudden change in direction happened too quickly for him to follow her, and he was soon lined up right in her sights.
"It's going to really suck to be you in a second." She flipped back to lasers, set it to quad burst, and fired shot after shot into the hostile fighter's rear shields. It suddenly sped up, quickly going out of sight at her near-standstill speed. He must have shifted his laser and shield power to the engines... well, two can play at that game.
She brought the ship back up to full speed and chased after the bomber. As soon as it came back into her crosshairs, she threw all her fighter's power into weapons and delivered one over-powered quad blast.
With most of its shield strength drained into the engines, the fighter stood no chance. The lasers punched right through the shields, engines, and cockpit. The pilot ejected, but the engine explosion was faster.
She pulled up the message log and noted with satisfaction that Sarah and Michele and brought down two more bombers apiece. Just a few more to go, and we can get back to saving Beta and Gamma.
Cayden watched the rest of his flight race off to the Fearless and sighed.  Maybe it is time to call it quits and go back to the medbay? he asked himself.  He looked around, saw a missile incoming, and threw the Interceptor into a dive, despite protests from his limbs.
An A-Wing jumped onto his tail and started firing blindly at him.  Cayden smiled and keyed in a New Republic channel.  "You know you're wasting precious energy by shooting blindly.  Try concentrating your blasts on a single point on your viewport and controlling the rate in short, concise bursts," he said, smiling.  Why the hell am I helping a New Republic pilot? he asked himself.
The Reben did just as Cayden said, and scored several hits on Cayden's solar panels.  "Thank you, Imperial pilot," he said calmly.
"Son of a- I guess I'm done helping you before I die," Cayden said, laughing to shake off the nerves.  He switched the comm off and began accelerating towards the shipyards.
Turbolaser fire erupted from the shipyards, firing at him and his play-mate as they leveled out mere feet from the shipyard's hull.  The pair of fighters banked to the right to avoid a mass of antennae sprouting from the station.
Cayden smiled as pain shot through every nerve of his body, forcing his body to stay together as he cut back on the inertial dampners.  I need to increase speed... even if I kill myself in the process... he told himself, throwing the fighter into an ascending spinning dive.
The A-Wing continued firing at Cayden, each volley getting closer and closer to it's mark.
I need to end this now he thought, pushing the ion engines past the recommended safety levels.  He raced away from the shipyard and began flying towards the lone Quasar Fire-class bulk cruiser.  As he approached, the Quasar started turning to face him and began opening fire.
Cayden banked hard to the left and flew in closer to the bulk cruiser, dodging turbolaser blasts left and right.  He flew down the length of the ship in mere seconds, then turned back around and continued flying over it, hoping the laser cannons would accidentally fire on the A-Wing.
After flying over the Quasar for the sixth time, Cayden quickly grew tired of this cat-and-mouse game and executed a back-flip as the rebel A-Wing was coming back around, placing him directly behind it.  He locked on and let loose a barrage of green laser blasts, tearing the tiny A-Wing to pieces in a brilliant mix of fire, matter, and body parts.
Cayden flew through the debris cloud and laughed to himself before he noticed his IFF going off.  He looked at it, then outside his cockpit window and let out a low whistle.
24 A-Wing fighters were on a rapid approach on his position, forcing him to abandon his position above the Quasar, which he had no problem abandoning.
Cayden began racing back towards the fleet, the 2 squadrons of A-Wings screaming Hell's fury as they all attempted to shoot down the lone Interceptor.  Since when did I deserve 2 squadrons of A-Wings for myself? he asked himself, laughing out loud.  He switched on the fleet channel and said "To anyone looking at having fun, I have 2 full squadrons of A-Wings on my tail that I would simply LOVE to shoot down myself, but I believe I may be a bit out-gunned.  So, if anyone would be kind enough to assist, just look for the dense cloud of fighters shooting at the little black thing running for it's life."
Cayden unsealed his helmet and took it off.  He shoved it under his seat, a wide grin crossing his face.  He switched on the Reshie channel and said "You want a piece of me?  Well... come and get me!"  He slammed on the throttle, launching the fighter towards the Chrome Fox.
The deck plating felt strange under his feet as he sat in the standard issue flight suit of the Vast Empire Navy. He could hear the low thrum of the engines of the Chrome Fox. Being a pilot it was comforting, or it used to be. Now part of him was fearful of that sound. He had lost the edge, he had lost the thrill of flying.
At first glance he seemed to be starring at a brand new TIE/In, or more widely known as the TIE Interceptor. In truth he was starring through it, back to two years ago. In this time he wore the colors of Nazgul, and carried the title of Nazgul 6.
They flew Avengers, and knew they were the best of the best. Their crafts were unmatched, their flying ability unparalleled. Their death ratio... well they needed new recruits often. The missions they did were some of the worst, so the death ratio was the norm in those situations. He just never expected he would go out the way he did.
The exact time and place of the accident is not known to him. The memories too distorted to fully recall the exact mission. What he does remember is seeing another TIE clip his port-side solar panel. His Avenger went into an uncontrollable spin, thankfully he blacked out before his fighter became a dent on the side of a small moon.
Only pieces of the next two years can be recalled. Pieces of the long effort to walk again. The time spent in deep depression as he looked at an aircraft for the first time since his accident. He felt deep seeded fear as the thought of flying suddenly. The need to soar like a bird was gone. He wanted to die at that moment. Part of him did die.
He felt every pin in his right leg as he shifted. The crash shattered his hip bone, everyone thought he would never walk again. Now, two years later he was about to step into the cockpit of a fighter and become Beta 2, of Regents Squadron. That is, if he could work up the nerve to do so. This would be his first mission since the accident. Being thrown right back into the fire was often the worst thing that could be done. He knew he would either take his place as Beta 2, or die trying.
He knew he had to climb back to that edge, back to where he belonged. Standing up he walked around the TIE slowly. His eyes carefully looking over the multitude of parts and fittings needed for the craft to operate.
Standing under his Interceptor he looked up at her one last time before making his way up the small gantry to the access hatch at the top of the fighter. The flight crew watched him warily. The Chrome Fox's crew were nervous over new people. Specially one with such an odd background. He had just seemed to vanish for two years before suddenly showing back up with orders to become Beta 2.
Climbing down the short ladder to the cockpit, he swung his legs over and sat in the flight seat. He felt the soft material mold itself to his back. A few seconds ladder the short ladder was removed by one of the crew members.
He flipped three switches and closed his eyes as the hatch shut and sealed itself. Keeping his eyes closed he moved by memory alone and began the pre-flight sequence. Quickly the twin ion engines engaged, a moment later the ship seemed to begin breathing softly as it slowly woke from its deep slumber.
Putting on his helmet he locked it into place and keyed his mic. "Flight, this is Beta 2. Pre-flight complete, ready for launch." Scral said as he finished his check list. After a moment he keyed on the repulsorlifts for neutral "Repulsors online, retract gantry at your discretion."
His TIE rocked very slightly as the crane mechanism used to hold it in place moved away. A moment later his radio beeped and a feminine voice said "Gantry retracted, docking bay clear. Beta 2, you are cleared for launch."
Adding a small bit of power into the repulsors he keyed the ion engines and felt the fighter move forward. Moving the starboard pedal slightly he exited the force shield surrounding the bay and increased throttle as he shot away from the frigate.
The fighter seemed to finally come alive as his distance between the Chrome Fox and his Interceptor increased by the second. Keying in the encrypted hyperdrive coordinates he had been given he breathed slowly once as he pulled back the single lever.
The second it took for the computer to recognize the command time seemed to stand still. After a moment the star field expanded as Scral shot into hyperspace, towards Regent Squadron.
The remaining quartet of Y-Wings huddled together, relying on their fighters' superior shield strength to stop the three oncoming X-Wings' onslaught. Maroy, Michele, and Sarah attempted another missile salvo, but the bombers were prepared this time and their boosted shields effortlessly absorbed the damage.
"They've boosted their shield strength; they're not even going to try fighting back. Any suggestions, you two?"
Sarah replied first, her voice still darkened with anger about Amacuse's stunt. [[If we focus our fire on them one at a time we might be able to take a few out.]]
Michele's voice came over next, noting the obvious flaw in that plan. [[At that rate at least two of them will get another run in.]]
"Well, I can't think of anything else. Concentrate your fire on the nearest one."
They all looped around and headed towards the rear-most bomber, pelting it with bolt after bolt of crimson death. The shield began dropping, at an agonizingly low rate. By the time they punched through and destroyed the ship, the other three NR fighters were way ahead and almost in range for a final run on the Fearless.
"If you have any more torpedoes left, go ahead and use a few up. We can't afford to let these guys through."
Michele launched two missiles at the cluster, making a noticeable dent in the shields. Sarah's missiles added to that, leaving an opening Maroy wasn't about to miss. Resetting the blasters to single fire, she fired shot after shot into the Y-Wings to keep their shields from regenerating. Soon her two squadron-mates joined her, and the bombers' shields dropped to a more reasonable level.
[[Too late, they're in range!]]
Maroy fired one last shot, even though it would make no difference if it hit the Y-Wings.
But it would if it hit one of their proton bombs.
A tremendous explosion shook her ship all about and blinded her. She whited out for moment, but quickly regained consciousness. The Fearless obstructed most of her viewscreen, and she quickly pulled away to avoid becoming a dark spot on the ship she had been trying to save. She checked over her ship's status and noticed with some surprise that she was relatively unharmed. Even her shields were still strong enough to be useful.
"Ugh... what happened?"
[[You got very, very lucky, Three. Your blast hit one of their bombs as it launched. A one-in-a-million shot.]]
"And the bombers?"
[[They didn't stand a chance with all the work we'd done on their shields. They're history. Fearless sends its gratitude.]]
Maroy breathed a sigh of relief. "Let's see how everyone else is doing..."
She pulled up the tactical map.
"Beta and Gamma flight are holding out fairly well; the shipyard's defenses are being hit hard. Now where's Lead?"
It didn't take long to find Amacuse.
"All alone and being chased by two full squadrons of A-Wings. Why am I not surprised?"
She re-opened the channel to Sarah and Michele.
"Four, Six, Amacuse got two full squadrons of A-Wings going after him. Guess who gets to go after him?" She heard Sarah groan aloud, but they followed without further comment. They shifted excess shield energy into engines and sped after the New Republic interceptors, which apparently had either not noticed them or assumed them to be friendlies.
[[Three, I don't think we'll be able to catch up to them. They're just too fast.]]
"Just hold on, I'll think of something."
Maroy remembered that their X-Wings' comm systems had been loaded with NR frequencies as well as callsigns. In addition, it was a known fact that the NR often used predictable color-coded squadron names in honor of the callsigns used by the early rebels. From what she could see the A-Wings ahead had blue stripes. Her plan was a long shot, but seemed reasonable at the time.
She opened a channel to the rear-most A-Wing, making sure to use the proper frequencies and encoding.
"Blue Twelve, are you ready to transmit your data?" She bluffed, hoping that his squadron's name was the obvious one and that he was actually the twelfth pilot.
[[What are you talking about? Who are you?]]
"We don't have time for games, Twelve. Transmit your data so we can get out of here."
As she had expected, the other A-Wings had picked up the poorly encrypted transmission and quickly surrounded Blue Twelve.
[[Twelve, what's she talking about?]]
[[I have no idea, Lead. Somehow she got a hold of the encryption codes.]]
[[Unidentified X-Wing, what's your designation?]]
Uhh... think, Maroy think! "Kath Three."
[[Blues, that's the name of the rogue squadron that took out the shipyard's communications array! Engage pursuing X-Wings!]]
Maroy closed the connection and sighed.
"Well, it was worth a shot. Sarah, Michele, get ready. Twelve A-Wings are coming our way, and fast."
His breathing came slowly as he watched the stars stream by. The swirling tunnel of hyperspace was hypnotic if you were not prepared for it. When he had first jumped he thought he would freak out, and possibly eject. Leaving himself stranded in hyperspace with no way to get out.
He pictured himself slowly going mad as his oxygen supply dwindled and eventually ran out. That was the real problem with hyperspace travel, if you ejected you were dead. You don't simply revert to real space, you would need a hyperspace generator for that. The last time he checked he did not carry a spare one in his back pocket.
Luckily for him the nerves did not shoot up and he did not panic. He simply relaxed into the seat and began adjusting the controls. The pilots who lived the longest always set the inertial dampeners to a lower setting. It allowed you to feel the craft, push her to the very edge of design specifications. The ones who kept them at full, well, those pilots never made it back home.
The Interceptor was larger then his old Avenger. It was also slower, only making about one hundred twenty MGLTs. With the addition of the shield and hyperspace generators she lost some of her speed, and some of her maneuverability. He doubted he could pull one hundred ten MGLTs out of her with such a large load-out. For this mission she had been outfitted with the top load one could carry. The standard issue four wing-tipped laser cannons, and the twin SFS L-S9.3 laser cannons situated right below the cockpit window. As an extra added punch he had the full compliment of four missiles loaded into the twin missile tubes.
Breathing once slowly, he pulled back the hyperspace lever as the computer began beeping at him. Immediately he knew he was in trouble as four A-wings shot past him mere feet from his starboard solar panels. Pushing the yoke forward he pushed his ship into a dive to gain distance and take stock of the situation. He had a few moments before the four A-wings managed to reduce speed enough and come back around on him, he tapped the port rudder controls to give the Interceptor a downward spiral as he looked around.
He could see in the distance three possibly four more Interceptors heading his way. A hornets nest of A-wings seemed to be buzzing around a lone Interceptor trying to survive long enough for help to arrive.
"Unidentified Interceptor, state your business here or be fired upon." A voice said over the comlink a few moments later. Pulling the ship out of the dive he brought the nose up and began circling back around to where the A-wing hornets nest was.
"Give me a moment, a small bit preoccupied." Scral said as he linked all six of his laser cannons and began firing once one of the A-wings came within range.
An alarm began buzzing as one of the four A-wings began taking pot shots at his rear shields.
Keying for one of the republic frequencies he said "Oh sorry, were you thinking I did not have shields? Next time I may accommodate you better by not having them on. Excuse me while I blow your friend up now."
Shutting off the channel he went to full throttle and closed the distance on the A-wing he had singled out. Watching his shields slowly wither away Scral kept firing on the enemy craft. Luckily the pilot he had decided to kill did not decide to go full throttle and try to use the A-wings superior speed to get away.
Linking all six laser cannons for burst fire, he fired once more. He watched as the green streaks of energy tore through the smaller craft. He pulled up away from the debris as the friends of the republic pilot he had just killed tried in vane to kill him.
Keying on his squadrons frequency he sent out his encrypted clearance codes. Suddenly his friend or foe computer began identifying his new squad.
"Callsign is Scral, more introductions later. Time to kill some more baddies." He said into the comlink, bringing the ship straight up he tipped over on the starboard panel and watched as the A-wings shot past him.
He realized suddenly as he was angling around on another A-wing that he was suddenly enjoying himself again.
Seven of the eight remaining pilots of the 324th finished their repairs and were fully rearmed.  The Fearless control gave them the clearance to reengage.
Baen Sidhe Squad you are clear to launch, good hunting out there again.” Fearless control stated.
“Will do Fearless control” he said, “Baen Sidhe Squad launch.”
They left the hanger and Quelayen found the Amaranths location and began to fly in that direction.
Amaranth this is Baen Sidhe lead we’re rearmed and returning to your flank.  We are five minutes out.” Quelayen said to them.
“Roger Baen Sidhe lead, see you soon.”
~~~Amaranth~~~

The Amaranth moved into range on the last ICF the Tears of Ithor.  The Tears of Ithor was the first to open fire and with the Amaranth shields weakened the first barrage dropped them down to 15%.  There was another hull breach on the starboard side.  It opened a hole in one of the crew quarters; the cabin door sealed the breach quickly with no casualties.

The Amaranths barrage smashed into the shields, and dropped them down to 75%. With all the shots getting absorbed by the shields, they returned fire and it hit completely removing the shields and disabling the engines.

“I want a damage report.” Arthur said.

“The engines are disabled, if we survive this battle we might be able to repair them but that’s a problem we will have to deal with a little later.  I have to try to regenerate the shields and give the lasers a more power sir.” Jason Womack told Arthur.

“Sir, there is a hull breach in another of the crew cabins but this was empty and sealed quickly.  No one was killed during this latest attack but I have a feeling that is about to change sir.”  Ariyn Holts replied.

~~~324th squad~~~
The 324th was about half way to the Amaranth when a squad of X-wings moved to intercept them.
“Take them out quickly we need to get to the Amaranth.”  Quelayen said to his squad.
They broke off and began to hunt down the X-wings.  Hatie Baen Sidhe 5 banked left and made her way to the closest X-wing and fired off a small burst from her quad-lasers and they broke through the shields and struck one set of the x foils ripping it off and causing it to roll out of control it spun into his wing-mate killing both of them.
Hatie did not realize an X-wing got around her until it fired and took her shields down to 15%.  She banked left, right, and tried a split s but the X-wing was fast on her every step out the way.  It got a lock and fired a photon torpedo that smashed into her craft and ripped it to shreds.  Herts her wing-mate just made it to help her as it went he unleashed a full barrage with his quad lasers and was able to get his revenge.
Quelayen was in the pursuit of the X-wing squad lead.  The X-wing lead made a Break Turn and Quelayen over shot his target.  He found himself being pursuit by the guy he was just hunting.  Quelayen tried to shake his pursuer but was having a hard time.  He banked left, right, barrel roll and a Split-S but still had no luck losing him.  He began to make a Break Turn into a Split-S with a Barrel Roll at the end and found he lost the X-wing lead and was able to get up right behind and let off a large barrage from his quad lasers.
The rest of squad spent a five minutes trying to finish cleaning up the remaining X-wings.  When they finished cleaning up the X- wings they were holding strong at six pilots, and received word that the Baen Sidhe six was fully repaired and was on her way back into the fight.  She made her way to the squad and they moved to go try save the Amaranth.
~~~Amaranth~~~

Jason Womack was fast at work trying to get the shields back up.  He ran over to the engine power generator and began to rewire it to power the shields, and was having the hardest time getting it too work.

“Sir the generator was not designed to be able to power the shields we might cause a catastrophic failure, and shut down the power to the whole ship. We need to try to get the engines back up and get us out of this fight.” Rufus Harker was trying to convince Jason the chief engineer to change his tactics.

“It will work it, and it must work if we are to survive this fight.”  Jason said to Rufus as he continued to work on it.

One of the droids he requested came rolling into the room and Jason gave the droid its orders.  It rolled into the narrow alcove and down below.  Jason worked as hard as he could and did what he could on his end.  The last part he could do he had to wait for the droid to complete its work.

~~~Amaranth (R4M6)~~~
R4M6 was under the reactor using the terminal trying to get the power fluctuation under control.  The droid was about to link up to the second port when the Amaranth shook from another barrage.  It was knocked over and began to right itself when a small fire broke out three feet next to him.  R4M6 quickly active its fire suppression system and put the fire out.  It then righted itself and hooked up to the terminal.  It had to go through a large amount of code to find what was causing the fluctuation.  When it finally got them under control it signaled Jason.  His next job was to fix the engines but not to hook them up to the power generator yet.
~~~Amaranth (Jason Chief Engineer)~~~

“Great work R4M6, now start working on the engines.” Jason said.

He began to attach the shields power couplings to the generator. I know this will work Jason was thinking.  When the last coupling was attached he walked over to the switch to turn the generator on.  He opened a com link to the bridge.

“Sir, I have the shields hooked up to the engine power generator I need you to punch in your access code to finish turning them on.”  Jason said.

“Right I’ll do that now.” Arthur said and punched in his code, “Try it now Jason.”

Jason turned it on and at first nothing happened, then a spark flashed with the shields coming back to life.  The com system opened from the bridge.

“Good job engineers you just saved all of our lives, now just get our engines back online so we can get back in the battle fully.”  Arthur said.

~~~Amaranth / 324th~~~
The 324th squad came out from behind the Amaranth and quickly got a lock on the Tears of Ithor and fired a photon torpedo with a barrage from their quad lasers.  The Amaranth fired another barrage from there lasers and the shields of the Tears of Ithor went from 65% down to 25%.  The Tears of Ithor had to split their weapons between both the Amaranth and the Baen Sidhe squad.
“I want a damage report.”  Arthur said.
“We have about 45% shield power and multiple hull breaches all have been seal as well as possible.”
“I don’t have an exact number of how many are dead.”
“Weapon strength is at 75% normal limit Sir.”
“Good lets destroy us another ICF and help the rest of the second fleet.” Arthur said.
They all moved for a final assault on the Tears of Ithor.  The whole Baen Sidhe squad gather up for a full assault they made a second pass firing all of their torpedoes and a full barrage from both dropped the shields and ripped many holes in the Tears of Ithor but not enough to destroy it completely.  The ICF was on full retreat during the attack.  The Amaranth fire one last barrage at the engines and had the squad mop up the last four turbo-lasers.  The Amaranth let off one last barrage on the bridge leaving a smoldering husk of a ship.
As the squadron of A-Wings headed toward her, Maroy saw another Interceptor drop out of hyperspace and engage Amacuse's remaining pursuers. Well, at least somebody is helping us out... She switched back over to torpedoes, and noticed with regret that she only had one left. Well, I better make this one count... She lined up with the oncoming fighters and grabbed the firing controls. As the speedy fighters came closer and closer, she squeezed the trigger and launched the torpedo. It impacted on the lead fighter, knocking it into its wingman and splitting the formation.
"Michele, Sarah, I'm going in. Watch my back and see if you can take a few of them out."
She shifted her throttle up to full and zig-zagged towards the New Republic fighters, spewing crimson blasts at them whenever one ended up in her sights. They started shooting back, and despite her weaving many of the weaker shots made it through. Finally she was right on top of them, and accidentally slammed into one. Her shields dropped to almost zero, and the A-Wing's weaker shields collapsed. Maroy suddenly realized that, right in the middle of a battle, she was getting very, very drowsy. The battle had been going on for a long time, and she had spent much of the preceding night too nervous to sleep.
Must... stay... awake... She banged her head against the cockpit canopy, and that was enough for the moment. The A-Wing she had collided with exploded behind her as Sarah repeated Maroy's weaving maneuver with much better success. Michele followed through with a corkscrew spin, taking out another fighter with a couple quad-bursts.
"Let's finish these off quickly... I'm not sure I can keep flying much longer."
Maroy swung back around and headed for the New Republic fighters, switching back to quad blasts and trying to keep from losing her targets. The A-Wings were faster and more maneuverable, and they knew it. Shot after shot met its target, and pretty soon Maroy was actually scared. She hadn't been afraid of death before, when she had shields to hide behind, but now it really hit with full force. If she'd been running low on adrenaline, that was quickly fixed.
She punched her X-Wing back into full throttle and dived in towards the A-Wings, swinging in behind them and not letting them go until they were a smoking ball of debris. Fighter after fighter disappeared, and soon all but five were left. They stopped firing for a moment, so suspecting a change of plans she switched her comm back to the NR channel. Sure enough, they were being issued new orders.
[[Blues, apparently the pilot of the Interceptor we were chasing earlier is the leader of the group that sabotaged the comm array earlier. Command says his capture, or at least death, is now top priority for-]] the comm went silent as Michele landed the killing shot on the leader's damaged A-Wing. The remaining four fighters turned back and raced off towards Amacuse, leaving the three Regents pilots.
"Well, I guess we should go after them..." The three X-Wings accelerated after the New Republic fighters, slowly lowering the distance. Maroy double-checked Amacuse's position and noticed with some awe that the pilot who'd announced his callsign as 'Scral' had already turned seven of his A-Wings into scrap and was well on his way towards another four. Amacuse was almost alone now, with most of the enemy fighters being occupied by Vast Empire forces. Somebody better keep an eye on that DP-20 off to port, though. It's getting a bit too close for comfort.
He felt the G-forces increase as he pushed his Interceptor into a tight starboard roll. Various creaks and groans echoed around the cockpit from a multitude of joints in the fighter. Luckily he had not heard a long ping or a pop yet. He was glad the worker who had assembled this particular fighter was not being lazy on the job. He doubted anything less than perfection would of survived the torment he was putting the craft through.
His computer systems had long since stopped trying to warn him he was pushing the red line on the structural integrity. All his readouts were flashing red, he figured only minutes had passed since he first jumped out of hyperspace. Though, it could of been hours for the way his body ached. The inertial dampeners had went a bit wonky sometime ago, he did not feel the full effects of the G-forces, but he felt enough of them to know he would be in trouble later on. He had had no time to recharge anything, and his ship was beginning to suffer for it.
Closing his eyes and breathing slowly for a moment he heard the small pieces of debris impact his cockpit windows. The multitude of A-wings that had become dust during those minutes, supplying the debris. His shields were low, down to twenty percent. All power was in his rear shields leaving his forward ones completely gone. He was not too worried about the A-wings in front of him, their guns did not swivel around to fire at him as he was lining up his shots. He had lost track of how many times he had thanked the Gods for that little miracle.
Squeezing the trigger he watched as dark green energy bolts raced out ahead of him. He caught site of the pilots face for one brief instant before another A-wing disappeared in a cloud of dust. He pushed the ship down into a corkscrew and killed the throttle to nothing. He waited a few long seconds before spinning the TIE around and punching the throttle again. He knew the maneuver did nothing but by him precious seconds, but when your energy levels were dangerous two seconds were a godsend in a dogfight.
At first he was flying almost text book, getting the feel for the fighter. Now he was flying on instinct, and doing things his training was screaming at him for. Out of the original twelve A-wings three were left. Four others were fast approaching, his squadron was no where to be found.
"Beta 2 to squadron. Shields down to fifteen percent, power for weapons is in the red. Going to lose this fight soon. Scanners indicate four more fighters almost on top of me. I can't take on seven." Scral said as he punched the throttle to full and nosed the TIE into a dive.
You just took on twelve, and have three left. Seven should be easy. A small voice in his head said quietly. Part of him knew he was pushing his luck to the limits just like his fighter. He also knew taking on four more fighters would end him. He simply did not have enough energy reserves to fight much longer, both in ship and body.
He watched one of the A-wings overshoot him, the other two staying far enough back to follow him into his multitude of maneuvers.
Pushing his fighter into one final climb, he tapped the starboard rudder dropping himself behind his last A-wing. He watched the rebel pilots two friends continually fire at his rear shields.
"I'm taking you out with me. Let's meet up in hell. Maybe have a warm drink." Scral said quietly as he fired. The A-wing disintegrated into a multitude of pieces as his rear shields collapsed finally. He closed his eyes and removed his hands from the flight controls.
Long moments passed and nothing happened. Opening his eyes he saw a lone Interceptor fly by over his head. It took his mind a long moment to register the twin explosions that had occurred a few seconds before.
"Beta 2, let me be the first to welcome you to Regents Squadron. I'm Amacuse, your squadron commander. Form up on me, let us deal with the last four then go have some real fun."
He took a deep breath he had not realized he was holding, as he formed up a small bit behind the other Interceptor. He watched as his shields and weapons began to slowly recharge. Even the Ion engine temperature slowly moved out of the red as the minutes ticked by.
He saw his shield strength grow to ten percent, then engaged the shield generator. All his indicators slowly reached the lowest green setting possible, thirty seconds before the four A-wings would be within range.
Flipping over to the rebel frequency he caught the tail end of a conversations "Four to lead, that hotshots shields just went back up."
"The one who just decimated our sister squadron?" He figured this voice belonged to Flight Leader of what was left of the A-wing squadron.
"Yes'ir, scanners are reading that other Interceptor is at near full charge. Recommending we don't engage."
The frequency went silent as the four A-wings banked hard to port and raced away towards the DP-20 Frigate. He wished he could read transcripts from the comm chatter going on about him. He doubted it would be very nice talk. Most likely insults to his gender, his mother, and his general upbringing.
"I don't think they like me much." Scral said into the squadrons frequency. He angled around to follow Amacuse as his Squadron Commander changed course.
