You've completed the first step every member of the Army takes, posting in the academy. Congratulations. The next step in your training, is to post a biography. Character development is important in the Vast Empire, and this is just the start.

(Give about 1-2 paragraphs worth of background history for your character. This doesn't have to be long and detailed since this is a new character for you, and you need to still flesh him/her out a bit. If you do want to go into great detail, by all means do so!)

List/write about your character's personality. What makes him/her the way she is? Anything in particular (pet peeves, etc.) that irk your character? Etc.

Congratulations upon passing Phase One of your training. I hope over time you can improve your bio to it's prime! You have now been placed in your first squad, Satus Squad! You will remain in this squad until you've completed the rest of your training.

Phase Two has three basic goals: Get on IRC, Learn about ID Lines, Learn about Weekly Reports.

Get on IRC: IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. This is how most of our person to person communications are made. There is a weekly meeting here on Sundays at 4EST, for the whole VE. You are very welcome to attend.

If you are able to download and install programs to your computer, I highly recommend mIRC. A tutorial on how to set it up can be found here: http://comnet.imperialnetwork.com/topic/7839/

Otherwise, you can use JavaChat, from the main website: http://www.vastempire.com/main/ref/javachat/
JavaChat is the easiest, because everything is done for you, but also has no options whatsoever.

There is also other sites like http://www.mibbit.com which you can access IRC from, but we do not have a tutorial for any yet.

Learn about ID Lines: Your learning material is found here on them: http://www.vastempire.com/wiki/index.php?title=STC_Academy. Since you are not in a full blown squad yet, you don't have a complete ID line. Please create your ID Line, but because you're in the academy currently, please subsistute periods for your Squad and Platoon Numbers. ( /.SQD/.PLT/ ) After creating you id line, please update it on the comnet to your signature. You can find that under the "Profile" tab near the top of any comnet page.

Learn about Weekly Reports: A weekly report is just information for your squad leader to make sure you are being active. You just need to mention how active you were in the week. Example: Posting on Squad Story's, making various graphics, playing Star Wars games, being on IRC. They are usually sent thursday, or friday.

Also you can use reports to show any idea's you have for the squad. Maybe you came up with a good idea for the story, and want to explain it to your Squad Leader, and Assistant Squad Leader. Weekly report is where you can.

You'll need to Comnet Private Message me what activity you've done so far in the VE. Please include whether or not you got on IRC (and explain the problem if you didn't) and  please include the ID line you just created, with the periods, and don't worry about when you send it, as soon as you can is fine.
