Erasing Avy's

I noticed when going through my profile I must have at least 15 avy's uploaded on the server, and about half of these are named test or some other such irrelevant name. Is there a way to clear these out? Because if so I think we should make it more pronounced.

One problem I see with doing this is the fact that some avatars have been used on olds posts, and those avatars would no longer be on the server...

Yeah...the major weakness of the coolness that is the non-updating post details. It's neat to go back and see when so and so was what rank. Gives a better feel of the club's history.

that's already happened to some avys for example the first page of Raider's squadnet has a bunch of blank avy's. Ideally it is ultimately up to the individual user if he wants to keep his old avy's for show, in which case don't delete them. If he/she doesn't want them up he can delete them.

The primary usage would be to delete test or temp AVY's that were never used anyway.

I don't really see a problem with old posts having no avatars - the default member has no avatar anyway.

Then how about this, we make a standard avatar so when people go back to the posts that had avatars that were deleted, an avatar that is standard is there?

Easier to Identify
Allows us to use graphics more

The second is more important than the rest at least too me, have you ever been on a board that does not use avys? it's a pain in the ass having to read individual names to see who posted as opposed to a quick glance at an avy and in the meantime you only need to look at avys you don't know. The human mind recognizes pictures alot easier than words.

Aye, I recognise someone faster by their avi then I can their name. Actually, the last five or six people who had their callsigns changed would of completely lost me if I hadn't recognised their avatars.

Just because avatars are deleted from the profile drop down box doesn't mean they have to be deleted from the server entirely.

It's as simple as removing the database line that identifies the avatar as yours and leaving the avatar image file on the server. The database stores the link to the avatar with each post (as well as signatures), so the profile thingy is just a means to switch back to avatars you have used.

Removing them from the profile is simple, fairly easily codeable, and shouldn't mess up past avatar posts. I'm in favor of the orignal idea.

If the avatar doesn't exist in any posts when deleted, might be possible to addon a tiny bit more code to actually delete the image file to conserve server space. I'm sure that it might clear up a bit if people test some avatars before actually posting with them.

It's true, it takes a while to get that avatar you're perfectly happy with (when it comes to graphic designers) so the loads tend to be a bit full with old/trial ava's.

Some script just removing them from the menu would be a handy feature
