Trouble On Kalee

Imperial Network Star Wars Image

A blast of air, a shock of cold rain, and a heavy fog enveloped the Imperial Shuttle as it slowly landed in the jungle below.  The troopers within peered through misty port windows and watched as the bright stars of space slowly faded from sight.  Down below, green grew thick in the blackness- a deep and disheartening green, full of dangerous animals and hazards.  It was truly a strange and sudden mission that they were heading out upon.

They heard the rain once they landed, a thick metallic sound which reverberated throughout the shuttle as they all headed towards the exit ramp.  Most of them stood beneath the shuttle, just out of the rain where it was dry, but one or two of them stood outside in the rain.  One of them, bareheaded in the precipitation stood on the edge of the clearing; his E-11 Blaster Rifle in front of him as he walked up and down the forest edge, scanning the area for any dangerous animals... or barbarian wartribes.  Satisfied at least for the moment, he turned to retreat back to the group standing beneath the shuttle.

Gaz walked up to the edge of the rain, the thick droplets coming only inches away from his nose, and held out his hand into the wet sheet of rain.  He held it there for a minute, interested in the temperature and strange feel of the water before he reclined it back to his side.  He grunted and looked up into the dark sky.

"Kalee's a far cry from our usual work." he said.  "Someplace like this doesn't seem like it has much to offer the empire..."

Havock craned her neck around Gaz and watched the bareheaded man outside.  She turned back and said,

"Whys he doing that?  This place seems safe enough to me."

The group looked in the direction that she pointed in.  Rougeboy smiled and replied,

"Aye, it's safe enough starting out.  A few bugs, small lizards and the like.  It's deeper in that the trouble starts.  There's the Garral: canine wolves that hunt in packs with razor sharp teeth and claws. Vine Snakes: poisonous vipers that hang from trees. Jungle cats called Panthas...

"And Brown-scaled preditors, bruallki, and clawbirds.  Not to mention the Kaleesh wartribes that call this jungle their home." finished Ron as he walked underneath the shelter of the ship."

The group nodded as their new Squad Leader joined the group.  His hair fell all about his eyes and face, and his clothes were wet and hung on him like drapes; but his hands were shaking with excitement (not from the chill), and his eyes were bright and cheerful.  One could say he was looking forward to the dangers that lay ahead.

"Right." Ron started.  "I suppose you're all wondering what's what."

The group nodded and waited for him to go on.

"The Empire has taken an interest in some reliable rumors that have been circulating around the Abbaji system regarding a vast supply of valuable resources that are abundant on this planet, Kalee.  Several groups of imperial scientists and foragers have been sent here to extract and harvest these resources; but none of them have returned, due to dangerous and extraneous occurrences that were out of their control.  Our job is to find these resources and to establish a small facility for extracting it."

"Resources?" repeated StarFruit.

"That's right.  Diamonds actually." Ron replied.  "There is approximately twenty five million cubic tons of diamond underneath this swamp of a planet, due to thousands of years of leaf buildup which turned to coal, which millions of years later- under heat and compression turned into a vast underground field of diamonds."

He looked around at the faces of his troopers before revealing a small holographic pad in his hand.  As he turned it on they all watched as a diamond the size of a helmet flashed before their eyes.

"As you can see." Ron said, "the diamonds are unusually large in dimension.  The Empire has come to the conclusion that they are worth the trouble.  And I'm informed that anything that can fit inside our pockets won't be missed."

The troopers around him grinned, if not outright, at least half-heartedly.

"Yeah," grumbled Karash "but we're the one's who have to deal with the trouble."

Ron grinned and chucked his blaster rifle into Karash's arms.  "Nothing to worry about," he said.  "At least not for now.  Just keep your head down and keep your equipment dry, shoot anything that moves, and try not to fall into any traps."

"Traps?" Havock said.

"We're not alone." Ron replied.  He shouldered his pack and headed off into the rain, followed by the rest of the squad.  As they came to the forest edge, they all passed a low branch with the remains of a human skeleton with a long rusted spear through its head, hanging by its neck and swaying by the treetops.

"We're not alone." Havock whispered.

OOC:
Alright, its the same story... just on a different planet.  You don't have to worry as much about this place, but there are some dangers such as animals and wartribes (Kaleesh).  I suggest you research the planet (Kalee) and the people who live there (Kaleesh).  Good luck!

Great, not only is it a forest. Its what happens when a swamp and a forest crossbreed. Havock thought to herself as she swatted another fly. The forest was dense but there were clear paths where it was quite obvious people had been before them. The nature of these people was also clearly marked by the skeletons displayed in all kinds of contorted positions on, in and around the trees.

The forest seemed to be alive with sounds and smells. The sounds are what was concerning Havock.  She didn't know much of the indigenous life forms on Kalee, the squad didn't have very much time to research the planet before shipping out. She knew there was some connection to a General in the Clone Wars, but that was so long ago. There was another odd screeching sound from a flying creature above the forest canopy. It was probably looking for food, and look here's a whole squad of morsels walking, right down there.

Lost in thought, Havock stepped in some muck on the forest floor. “Gah, why am I cursed to keep getting sent to the blasted forest.” Havock said quietly while making a disgusted look on her face.

“Having some trouble there, city girl?” Jae asked walking up behind Havock.

“Your one to...”

They all stopped, there was a rustling sound to the immediate northwest side of the trail. They all got into positions, Ron was giving visual commands to the group. They spread out along the trail, weapons ready. The sweat from the humidity started to roll down Havock's forehead. She had to force her eyes to stay open even though they had long been burning from the drops rolling into them.

The branches continued to rustle. Whatever it is it's getting closer. A shadow started to be cast and the creature was going to make it's hopefully very short appearance.

Then, they all breathed a collective sigh as a small, very small, and harmless animal came hopping out of the forest. The little guy nibbled some grass and kept hopping past the armed troopers aiming their blaster rifles at him. Havock continued to track the harmless being as it crossed the path.

“A little jumpy Squad?” Ron asked from his forward position. He had already holstered his weapon and looked almost amused at his squad at the ready with their blasters still pointing at the little creature.

They all collected themselves and got back into formation. The rain started to come down again. They had been granted a short reprieve, but apparently that was over. It was almost welcomed compared to the insane humidity they had been walking in.

Rogueboy and Karash had to struggle to keep the camp supplies from slipping out of their hands.

Ron turned to them in the now torrential downpour, “only about another 2 km until we reach the first checkpoint identified. We should be able to make camp there.” Ron had to yell for the troopers to hear even using the comms. Taking an extra look at Rogueboy and Karash, he looked at Havock. “PFC Havock, help them with those supplies and lets get moving.”

Havock walked over and hefted the side of the large cargo box that carried the supplies opposite Karash and next to Rogueboy. She glanced at Grahim who looked intensely happy to be in the rain. “Well at least Grahim doesn't seem to mind this rain.”

Rogueboy just grunted and slightly shook his head at Havock, as they made their way along the path.

Rogueboy walked through the thick underbrush; to be completely honest he had no idea what the hell they were walking for. “Oi! Ron, if these diamond thingies are underground where the hell are we walking to?”

The squad seemed to stop and Rogue could feel his labored breathing through his armour. The cooling fan had failed again, most likely because of the planet’s moisture levels. Rogue tapped his chest plate and much to his relief the fan kicked in again, it was the third time since they landed about two standard hours ago.

“The previous reconnaissance forces had showed that there was a canyon not far from our landing point, we were not dropped closer because the dense foliage wouldn’t allow it. Enough questions, we got a lot of ground to cover.” Sergeant Ron said before resuming the walk.

Namyr was on point, now when walking on point in a jungle it’s not the same walking on point through meadows; the squad always needs to see the point man or in this case point woman. Should they disappear it could prove disastrous for the squad. Either way it was too damn hot and humid for RB mostly it was the humidity that got to him having been raised on a hot dry planet had helped Rogue on more than one occasion but he was extremely vulnerable to the cold.

Rogue slung his multiple rocket launcher over his shoulder he carried a loaded clip and one extra pack which totaled six rockets, additionally he had his trusty A280 with the top sticking out of his pack, been four years since he’s had that rifle. The sad reality was that he was unable to bring his pistol with him, with the excess rockets that he was carrying along with his usual grenades there was no space for it on his belt as well as it was pointless to put it in his pack. What this boiled down to was that if something went against him head to head and he missed his rockets he was screwed.

With those happy thoughts in mind Rogueboy brought up the rear of the squad and for the oddest moment he felt like something was watching him and the squad. Rogue turned to get a glance over his shoulder and something darted quickly into the underbrush, Rogue didn’t get much of a glimpse except that it was about waist height and dark.

Rogue directed his next remark at Ron. “Sir, I think something is following us.”

The squad leader had stopped from near the front. “What do you believe it to believe platoon sergeant?”

“Not sure yet ser, I have reason to believe that it is however a threat to us and therefore we should exterminate it.” Rogue replied without giving much thought to what he had said.

“Well than, might I suggest you keep a closer eye on the rear before you make suggestions?” Ron had said before ordering the squad to resume their march.

Rogue sighed to himself it would take a long time before their new SL would finally know what to do but perhaps the squad will survive intact yet as long as Rogue was with them, with this thought Rogue resumed his march along with the rest of the squad being extra mindful of whatever was following them.

The unseen menace that Rogueboy had seen crouched in the shadows, it's yellow catlike eyes unblinking and unyielding to the bright sun overhead.  It, whatever it was, waited until the squad disappeared behind a bend in the path before dashing off into the dense jungle.  The thing ran on all fours, all of them which acted like long spidery limbs.  It was a young Kaleesh scout, who had been sent to follow the squad upon their arrival on his people's planet.

The young Kaleesh stopped abruptly at his captain's tent, more of a hovel than anything.  He received a nod from a guard on either side, took a deep breath, and entered through the cloth flap in front.

Within he found his superior, crouched in the corner, smoking a heavy tobacco that they grew on Kalee.  The captain looked up at his young charge and said,

"What news of the Aliens?"

"Captain," the Kaleesh started.  "I've tracked them as far as the unlit region... I've overheard part of their conversation..."

"Stop stuttering, fool!" the captain spat.

"Yes sir!" the scout replied.  "They have arrived to steal the jewels of the most blessed gods Dyxxclrysilous and Monomon!"

"What?" the captain said.

"They've come for the sacred rocks." the scout said.

The captain rose instantly and left the tent in a huff, leaving the confused scout behind him.  The captain turned to his right and left, saying something to either guard in an ancient language.

The scout stumbled out of his tent, sputtering questions and looking inquiringly at his captain.

"Wha... what will we do?" he asked.

"We will capture them, and offer them as sacrifice to the gods!"

"Yes!" the scout squeaked.

"Quickly now!" The Captain said.  "We must gather the tribes!  Let them know that the stars of the earth are in danger, and that the most blessed gods Dyxxclrysilous and Monomon have been angered!  We must find these Aliens... and we must kill them!"

_ _ _

"This is it." Ron pointed.

The squad gathered as close as they dared to the edge of the canyon to which Ron had led them.  It was actually a large round Caldera, a giant volcano that had collapsed thousands of years prior.  Within was a large basin hundreds of miles wide, a barren wasteland of dust and ash.  Here and there they could see great faults in the caldera, some of them as wide as several hundred feet.

"We're standing on the edge... of a volcano?" Jaenna said.

"Well... sort of." Ron replied.  "It's extinct, the last time it erupted it was so violent that it caved in on itself.  The magma below hardened and turned into..."

"Diamonds!" Karash said.

"Aye." Ron replied smiling.  "Diamonds."

Rogueboy turned his head, he thought he saw something again.  He pointed his gun in the general direction of the movement, but as he did so, it stopped.

"Something the matter?" Ron said to Rogueboy.

"I don't like it, sir." Rogueboy answered.  "I got the feeling something's following us."

Ron shrugged and said.  "I doubt it will follow us into the caldera."

Rogueboy nodded, but kept his eye on the spot.  The squad started to descend into the caldera, Rogueboy following last.  As his head descended below the rim of the volcano, he mumbled to himself,

"I got a bad feelin' about this."

Grahim heard RB that was mumbling about something but couldn’t here what.

“Did hesa just say I have a bad feeling about this?” Grahim thought for himself. Grahim didn’t like to be in caves they were dark and scary. Grahim didn’t have a problem with deep lakes because he could see down there but in a cave it was dark as a polished Dark trooper armor. Grahim saw Jae and Hav talking but this time they weren’t exchanging weird sounds.

“Why aren’t yousa exchanging weird sounds now?” Grahim asked Jae and Hav. They didn’t answer Grahim.

“Did mesa say something stupid?” Grahim asked Karash. Karash looked at Grahim as if he were stupid.

“Yeah that was kind of stupid. But it could be worse though.” Karash answered. Grahim heard something behind him but didn’t take notice.

“Thatsa was probably just RB thatsa kicked a rock or something. What are wesa going to do when wesa find theysa diamonds.” Grahim thought for himself. Grahim checked that his new sniper rifle still was hanging on his back. Grahim took forth his M-590. Ron made signs that the squad should stop.

“I think we found what we have been searching for. Karash, Jaenna and Havock go in and scout the forward area. Namyr, RB and Grahim go back and check the entrance” Ron said. The squad split up and Grahim didn’t have a good feeling about this. When Grahim, Namyr and RB came to the entrance they saw a group of Kaleesh were pushing a large stone to the entrance of the cave. Grahim fired a shot with the M-590 that hit one in the group but as Grahim prepared to fire another shot the stone covered the entrance.

“Did wesa bring explosives?” Grahim asked RB. Namyr showed of some grenades and mines.

“But we won’t use these just yet we will have to wait until Ron gives us permission” Namyr said. Grahim saw that Namyr placed them out and put a detonator pack there as well.

“Grahim go back to Ron and ask if we can blow this shit up now” Namyr said holding the detonator. Grahim went back to Ron.

“Namyr asks if shesa can blow a rock that some humanoids put there” Grahim said to Ron.

“Not yet it can be good for us to have that boulder there for the moment” Ron said. Grahim ran back to Namyr and RB.

“Not yet yousa don’t have permission to blow thatsa rock up” Grahim said when he came to RB and Namyr.

The squad had been walking through the forest on their way to some sort of underground mine were they should find a lot of diamonds; at least this is what Karash thought. While they were walking Platoon Sergeant Rogueboy had noticed something that appeared to be following the squad, although nothing appeared Karash felt uneasy for the rest of the journey.

“Hey Karash…” Said Grahim before he walked into a tree, Karash then burst out laughing which drew the attention of the entire squad.

“Grahim…” Karash then did exactly the same thing as Grahim, which the caused the entire squad to start laughing.

“Now Yousa look stupider.” said Grahim acting superior.

Throughout the rest of the time the squad was in the forest Karash tried to keep to himself as he did not want to face any more embarrassment. What was making Karash nervous was the fact that nothing was happening and considering the planets inhabitants that was very odd.

---A few hours later---

The squad had reached the end of the forest and was now standing at a Cliffside overlooking a canyon that was once a volcano, this was obvious due to the sparkling diamonds that were visible. Karash then noticed something move around in the forest behind them, Rogueboy appeared to notice it as well.

"I don't like it, sir." Rogueboy answered. "I got the feeling something's following us."

The squad leader didn’t seem too worried about this and just ordered that the squad begin they’re descent into the canyon and more importantly to the diamonds. Rogueboy followed up last making sure that he kept looking back to make sure nothing was able to get the squad in an ambush.

“What do you think it is?” asked Karash.

“I don’t know, but I don’t like It.” replied Rogueboy.

As the squad made there way down in to the canyon Karash could see dead bodies little across the floor, those still vaguely identifiable seemed to have a mixture of blunt instrument wounds and gun shot injuries. It was not an easy journey to the canyon floor because there were no real routes but the squad made it down with nothing more than a hurt ankle.

“Everyone, listen up!” exclaimed the SL. “Myself, Karash, Havock and Jaenna are going to investigate the cave, the rest of you guard the entrance.”

Karash did not like going underground but the thought of all those diamonds drew him under regardless of his fears. The walls of the caves were littered with sparkling rocks whether they were diamonds or otherwise, they were mesmerising and it was now obvious why the empire were so interested in the planet.

Back at the entrance

“Whysa wesa left here?” asked Grahim.

“I don’t know, just keep a look out. There is definitely something following us.” Said Rogueboy.

It was at that point a spear whizzed past the Gungans head, this was followed by a barrage of others and large numbers of angry looking Kaleesh warriors. Rogueboy, Namyr and Grahim all ran into the cave to get away from the Kaleesh.

“We should be able to hold’em here.” Shouted Rogueboy.

Then the light disappeared, the Kaleesh had pushed a boulder in front of the entrance and trapped the squad.

“Great.” Said Namyr.

In the cave

“Look at all these diamonds!” squealed Havock.

“Try not to take too many.” Replied Ron.

It didn’t seem to make much difference to Havock because she was totally enchanted by what she could see, in fact so was Jae. Karash then noticed Grahim running towards them shouting about ‘being locked in the cave and can we blow it up’.

“No, this means that they can’t get in.” said Ron.

They all then began to make they’re way back to the entrance to decide what to do next.

Famus looked through the scope of his M82-G Assault Rifle, picking out targets. While Rogueboy and Grahim moved up with the flanks with StA-52 LAR Assault Rifles. Namyr peered through his TI-47 Deathwind Slugthrower rifle. Bacardi on the other hand was reloading his IvP-18 Tropov Machine Pistol and M1 LMG "Tyrant" Chaingun. Around the group was rocket launchers, magazines, scopes, and a few extra rifles. Bacardi finished loading his weapons and holstered his pistol, he then pressed his finger to his ear.

"Ron, how are you holding up in there?" Bacardi asked Ron, who was trapped in the caves. Bacardi and Rogueboy were trying to devise a plan to get them out of there without taking to many of their own lives. Ron didn't com back for a second, and all Bacardi got was static. He picked up a pair of binoculars and looked over at the entrance to the cave. The static then ended and Ron's voice bolstered through the coms.

"Leader here, we're doing fine. Picking out our spoils, you guys find a way to get us out yet?" Ron asked Bacardi. Bacardii nodded to Rogueboy who came back with Grahim.

"Not yet, we're working on it. We're going to have to take out these Kaleesh, authorization?"

"Granted." Ron responded, Bacardi then cut the coms and pulled up his M1 LMG Chaingun. Bacardi then began to get everything in place for his gun. He collapsed the tripod on the gun and set it on a nearby rock, he then attached a scope to it and checked the motion sensors that Grahim and Rogueboy had just placed. But suddenly Namyr's voice rang through all the coms.

"Targets out in the open. Thirty or forty, all heading up the hill and towards us." Namyr reported. Bacardi cursed and then cocked his weapon back. He reported to the squad and Ron.

"Ron, we have hostels in the high thirties to low forties." Bacardi then changed the channel to the squad. "Squad this is Assistant, everyone with low range assault rifles put those on your back and take up rockets." The squad did so, Rogueboy and Grahim picked up the rocket launchers. Bacardi then ordered Famus to take up a chaingun, he quickly loaded it and set up a tripod.

"They're in a fifty foot range!" Namyr screamed. Bacardi cursed and aimed his chaingun so he could easily swivel.

"Everyone open fire, Rogueboy pop the mines." All the squad fired, Namyr hit a target with her sniper easily. Bacardi and Famus moved their chaingun around in a swivel so they could easily hit as many targets as possible. Grahim and Rogueboy both ran towards opposite ends of the small camp and fired their rockets. The rockets buzzed past the trees and hit the ground, sending a few Kaleesh in the air.

The surface of the volcano, or what used to be a volcano, was hard. It was hard, dusty, and dark. The smell of sulfur from its former days of glory was still thick in the air around the troopers. Havock made contact with the ground with a thud and a puff of dust, leaping off of the rope she was using to repel the wall of the caldera.

Havock took one or two cautious steps while she surveyed their new landscape.

“You can walk normally, I promise it won't erupt.”

Hav looked over at Jae, who was standing next to her now with her arms crossed, shaking her head at the hopeless city-girl.

Havock let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding. “Ha ha, very funny. I'm just trying to decide which one I dislike more, the inside of inactive volcanoes or forests.”

Jae seemed to consider that, looked around and turned back to Hav. “Less dead bodies in the volcano.”

Hav closed her eyes and shook her head, “my aren't we comforting today, Jae.”

She shrugged, “hope it helps.”

Ron got everyone's attention. “Everyone, listen up!” exclaimed the SL. “Myself, Karash, Havock and Jaenna are going to investigate the cave, the rest of you guard the entrance.”

Havock  could see the entrance, it wasn't far from where they were standing. The four of them made their way over to it. Hav glanced back at the rest of the team positioning themselves for guard duty. Rougeboy still looks jumpy. That made her look beyond them at the walls and forest beyond. Hope he's wrong, but lets face it, he usually isn't.

Karash walked past her, which brought her thoughts back to the task at hand.

They past the threshold of the cave. The lighting was decent enough, it was daylight and the cave entrance cast light inside. They walked in formation. Ron was at point, Karash and Jae  in the middle and Hav was in the rear.

As they reached the 25 meter mark they heard Grahim's frantic voice from the cave exterior. They could  not make out every word but it sounded like trouble. Then there was blaster fire and what sounded like a battle cry. Hav got her blaster ready and knelt down to try to see anything through the cave entrance. Then a sound, a scuttle, like ten or so pairs of feet in the dry sand. As if it was happening in slow motion the light coming through the entrance got smaller and smaller before Havock's eyes. “Those bastards are closing the door on us.”
She started to get up, to do something, to help the others outside fighting off who knows how many Kaleesh. Ron put his hand on her shoulder, “Hold that position, Private.”

Before she could even say 'Yes, Sir'. The light went out, and there was darkness.

Ron lit a glow rod in his hand, shook it to bring it to full power. Over the comm they could hear Grahim asking if it was okay to use explosives on the boulder, to try to get them out. To which Ron replied with a negative. “No, this means that they can’t get in.” said Ron.

The group turned and followed Ron's glow rod until the cave opened into a larger cavern. This area looked as though it had some significance for the inhabitance of the planet. The walls had been carved out and smoothed. Their was an archway directly in front of them, adorned with pictures and designs completely foreign to someone like Havock.

There was a light coming from inside this archway. The team walked through it and saw a large chamber. In two rows there were eight or so carved rock tables, they themselves were beautiful since they had been carved from the volcanic rock around them and had a distinct black color. In between the two rows was an aisle, empty just rock floors. But directly in the center of the room there was a pedestal about five feet off the ground. Every one of these surfaces was filled with diamonds, the room sparkled and light reflected all the colors one could imagine. But on that pedestal was one of the largest diamonds, Havock had ever seen.

The others started gathering up the smaller diamonds from the tables. Havock just kept looking at the large one in the center of the room. It had to be the size of her helmet.

She kept creeping towards it, as if in a trance. Jae must have noticed she started trying to get Havock's attention. “This is amazing, have you ever seen so many jewels?”

Havock just kept creeping towards the diamond, she did not acknowledge Jae at all.

“Hey Hav...Hav?”

Havock heard her but it sounded like she was far away, too far. The diamond was right there, she could get it first then talk to Jae, yeah, that sounds right.

“Havock!” Jae yelled, but there was still no response.

"I can hit one between the eyes..." Namyr exclaimed.

"Lies. All lies." Bacardi replied back. Suddenly more Kaleesh were upon them.

Bacardi jumped up as one Kaleesh came towards him with a bayonet. Standing up made him vulnerable to the short range rifles of the Kaleesh, but Bacardi was about to be hit over the head with a bayonet. Quickly swiveling, Bacardi pulled the trigger twice, squeezing it both times. The Kaleesh hit the ground with a thud and fell of the small rock, Bacardi then took a thermal detonator off of his belt and threw it into the enemy's midst.

"Sir, we can't hold them much longer!" Famus exclaimed, he dropped his chaingun and picked up his M82-G Assault Rifle. Two shots rang out and two more Kaleesh hit the ground. "Sir!?"

"Wire more mines on our current location, Rogueboy, find us a fallback point and secure it." Bacardi screamed as he fired again, two more Kaleesh hit the ground with a small fight. Bacardi then picked up another thermal detonator from a small crate and tossed it. Famus picked up a Hadra BLR Rocket Launcher, he aimed with and within a second fired it. Kaleesh put up their hands to block the small, bright light of a rocket coming at their faces. Two Kaleesh became disintegrated heaps.

"Gazzo! Rogueboy here, found a spot, should Grahim and I lug the supplies to this area?" Rogueboy asked. Bacardi fired again with his chaingun and it suddenly jammed. Throwing it over his head, he un-holstered his IvP-18 Tropov and two shots rang out. A Kaleesh kept on charging and as it raised it's bayonet to strike Bacardi, it was shot by Namyr's sniper.

"Do it. And nice shot Namyr." Bacardi reported.

"Told you I could hit one between the eyes."

"Fair enough." Bacardi said into his ear com as a rock hit his head. He put his pistol in his holster and ran to another side of the camp in about half a second. He picked up a rocket launcher that Famus had discarded and aimed, the heat-seeking techniques found a large target. Bacardi pulled the trigger and the rocket left the gun. He discarded the gun, just like Famus, and pulled out his pistol. But before he could, a Kaleesh hit him in-between the ribs.

"I got you on this one boss." Famus told the group as the Kaleesh landed another blow at Bacardi. Bacardi's pistol fumbled on the ground and Famus put the Kaleesh down with two bursts. During this fight, Grahim and Rogueboy had moved all the vital materials - ammo, food, grenades, and a few guns - up to the camp that they had chosen as a fallback point.

"Gaz, the point is secure, and are the mines set?" Rogueboy said.

"Yeah, they are set to explode on your mark." Famus reported.

"Got it, clear out. Namyr pull out and meet up." Gaz screamed into his com. "Famus, take everything you can with you!" Bacardi picked up anything he could and began to run. They were fifteen feet out... thirty feet... fifty feet. Kaleesh were behind them and one aimed a rifle, he began to adjust the scopes as Famus pressed the detonator. The few Kaleesh that had been in the vicinity had died with that blast. Everyone fell, exhausted, at the new camp.

Havock ignored the cries of Jaenna and kept her eyes on the diamond before her.  It was set upon a high pedestal, raised above the many layers of other, smaller diamonds.  She reached out, cradled the diamond in both her arms, and pulled it towards her.

As the massive diamond was extracted from the pedestal, Havock found it to be much heavier than she thought, and had to drop it on the ground.  By some strange coincidence, or ill-fortune, Rogueboy's charges exploded outside of the cave, causing rocks and pillars to collapse all around those trapped within.  Diamonds fell from the roof, falling on the hard stone floor with a tinkering noise that sounded like broken glass.  Ron directed the endangered group to a small overhang in the cave, where it appeared to be more stable than the rest of the cave.

"Quickly!" he yelled.  "Under the overhang!"

Everyone dove beneath the cover, expecting to be in less danger than before- but they were wrong.  As the last of them ducked under cover, Ron leaned up against a loose rock in the wall.  The wall suddenly flipped around so that they were no longer in the small cave of diamonds; but they were now in a giant cavern constructed entirely out of the "holy rock".

"Incredible." Ron whispered.

Before them rose giant columns carved entirely out of diamond that rose up to the mammoth ceiling above; a hallway that ran straight down the cavern with statues of strange Kaleesh gods on either side made of white granite with jewels inset in their eyes and mouths.

"Jackpot." Jaenna said.

"So this is what Kalee has been hiding for all these years..." Ron started.

He was interrupted suddenly by a pair of eyes that formed in the shadows of the cavern.  These eyes were suddenly joined by more eyes, all of them yellow and catlike.  The group formed a tiny circle with their backs towards the inside, pointing their weapons at the unwanted visitors.  Suddenly one of them presented themselves to the group.

It was a large, ancient Kaleesh male; decorated with skulls and fine fabrics and diamonds, hundreds of diamonds.  They covered his head, his body, his long spidery legs.  They formed his helmet, his gloves, even his pointed teeth.

"I am Kahtosh!" he started.  "the guardian of the temple of the most blessed gods Dyxxclrysilous and Monomon!"

He drew forth a long diseased finger and pointed it strait at Ron.

"And you!  You have desecrated our sacred place of worship!"

Ron motioned for the group to head backwards to the turning wall that they had come out of.

"Righto." he said.  "Didn't mean to barge in; won't ever happen again."

Kahtosh snapped his fingers and instantly they were surrounded by hundreds of Kaleesh warriors, armed to the tooth.

"As you can see, escape is hopeless, you must surrender." he cackled.

Ron looked around at his small group, to fight would be certain death, but to surrender was almost as certain.  He finally turned back to Kahtosh and threw his weapon at his feet.

"We surrender to you Kahtosh."

"Excellent." the Kaleesh priest exclaimed.  "Most... excellent."

Instantly they were beset upon by twenty strong warriors who stripped them of their weapons and armor and strung them upon long poles of wood.  Kahtosh smiled and watched, taunting them by saying,

"It is a great honor to be sacrificed to the gods!  You all will be admitted to paradise for it, although it will be the stinking slums of paradise!  Only the Kaleesh, favorites of the gods, are allowed past the holy gates!  Oh Dyxxclrysilous and Monomon, hear our prayers as we offer this our sacrifice to you, that you may not be offended any longer!"

OOC:
Half our squad has been captured by the war tribes of the Kaleesh!  Escape is pointless, so far.  There are two new objectives, depending on which group you are in:

Ron's group: You are captured and have very little power to resist.  All you can do is stall your inevitable death.  The Kaleesh plan to sacrifice us up to their gods upon a large temple that looks remarkably like our Aztec temples in the Americas.  Here is a picture for reference. (http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/6/62/Kalee.JPG)  Escape is impossible, so don't even try it.  We are depending on the other half of our squad to pull through.

Bacredi's group: You are the lucky few who have to plan a way to get us out of this mess!  Keep in mind while you are making your plans that there are hundreds of Kaleesh that will be present at this ceremony; so an all out attack would be most unwise.  You may find your explosives of use though, especially near a dormant volcano...

-As another side note: We are moving location, the temple of sacrifice is approximately 5 miles away from the caldera.  That's all for now!

The words of the Kaleeshians were steadily streaming passed Lance Corporal Jaenna’s ears. Nothing was distinctive about the words, even if they did speak a small stint of basic. Jaenna didn’t care much about listening to these words, for fear was gripping her heart and her mind. Mostly her mind… Whenever fear like this had the chance to actually wrap itself around Jaenna’s conscious, the girl didn’t do well at all. Her past with violence might help her in some ways when it comes to the army, but it destroyed her mental state in some ways as well. How?

Sweat was dripping down her cheeks, her hands were sweaty, and she kept clenching her fists. Her jaw muscles were clenching, and every now and then a soft growl would rumble from deep in her throat.

Havock was wearing an obviously worried look, her eyes wide and her hair falling in front of her face due to how all the troopers were being carried: tied to the poles, which were parallel to the ground, the troopers facing the ground.

The trooper, sighed and looked over at her friend, then sighed again in sorrow as she watched Jae’s reaction to being restrained. “Jae… You need to calm down.”

“Quiet you filthy thing!” Kahtosh yelled back at Havock, who grumbled and looked back down at the ground.

Jaenna in the meantime continued to fidget her fingers and clench her jaw, growling every now and then. This wasn’t a very good situation for her. Being restrained was the worst thing in the world for such a free spirited trooper. Her breath began to get faster, and more shallow.

This time, Ron looked over at her. “Jaenna. You need to calm down.” He whispered to her from beside her, on his own pole. “The others will get us out of this.” The Squad Leader continued trying to calm the LCPL down. Though Jaenna’s breathing didn’t get calmer, she did stopped clenching her jaws as much. That was enough of a signal to Ron that he had helped for right now.

Karash was quiet, but he was shaking. His eyes were darting from diamond clad creature to diamond clad creature, his own fists clenching. His breathing was quick, but wasn’t as shallow as Jaenna’s. Ron looked to him next, and sighed. The new Squad Leader gets half of his Squad captured on his first mission with them.  And now… Ron needed to try and keep his troopers calm, that way they could stay alive at least until they were mounted and allowed to feasted upon by the Kaleesh gods.

“Private,”  Ron said quietly to Karash. The Private looked at his SL and mouthed the words ‘Yes, sir?’ Ron nodded to him and smiled gently. Karash smiled back, taking the soft smile as comforting words rather than just a physical expression. Sergeant Ron needed to keep his troopers calm…

But he needed to stay calm himself. For the group of them might not have much time to live. “I need to keep my confidence up.” He said to himself. “The others will pull through. I know it.” Just then, the blunt end of a diamond headed spear struck Ron in the ribs, causing him to sputter and cough, drool dripping down his chin.

“QUIET!”  A Kaleeshian shouted. Still coughing and spitting, his ribs in writing pain, Ron nodded weakly. “Good.” The cat-eyed creature spat at the SL, before smacking him across the head with the stick part of the spear. Ron grunted in pain, but didn’t shout out as his brain seemed to knock against his skull.

The other three troopers’ heads came up and they looked at their SL, watching as he groaned, his eyes fluttering slightly. Havock gasped, finally snapping Jae out of her oncoming rage attack. Karash growled at the Kaleeshian with the spear. Havock and Jae continued to stare at their Squad Leader, Ron’s eyes fluttering more slowly now, his breathing quick and shallow. A stream of blood was visible from his temple. He groaned again and his head dropped, drool falling to the sandy floor. The Kaleeshian laughed in a cynical way and poked his spear tauntingly at Jae and Havock.

“You fucking bastard!” Jae barked at the creature. Her eyes were narrowed, a sickingly evil look spread across her face. She growled and thrashed about in her restraints. Havock whined softly and stared on, not knowing what to do. Karash was still busy being shocked at the fact that their SL had just been knocked out. “I’m gonna fucking kill you! The others are going to get us out of here, and you!” She locked her sea-foam green eyes with the creatures own yellowed cat-like eyes. “You… YOUR blood is going to be on MY hands.” She growled these words. For a split second, the creature look frightened, until Kahtosh yelled from the front of the line again.

“Axdrohnal! Stop pestering them! We need to keep these… morsels, at least a little clean for the gods!” Kahtosh stated, pure authority in his voice.

“Yes, sir.” The creature called Axdrohnal said as he stepped back into ranks with the rest of his brethren.

The troopers looked on, the three of the still conscious ones worried, and Jaenna still growling and thrashing in her restraints.

~

The group of Kaleeshians, lead by their High Priest Kahtosh, continued making their way through the circuit of tunnels, guided by the light the sparkling diamond’s gave off. The path was lit entirely, no torches were needed. Every now and then, Kahtosh would lead the group through a secret door that seemed to just appear out of the diamonds themselves. Ron’s head bobbed, still unconscious.  Jaenna had ceased her thrashing, but her teeth were clenched and her fists were tight. Karash’s eyes were closed as he took deep breaths. Havock… Havock was worried as hell. Being out the city was bad enough. Walking through the jungle was even worse. Being in a cave made her freak out a little. But being carried through a cave, tied to a pole, and death right down the road, had her scared shitless. The girl was hyperventilating, her chest heaving, her eyes wide, her forehead drenched in sweat.

Soon, the light in the cave became different, as though it were coming from a different source. Karash decided to point it out, with his words of course. “There’s an exit up ahead…” His voice was low, and utterly pitiful; losing their SL, even to consciousness, damaged the group of four greatly. Now… only the three of them were left to actually feel the pain of being sacrifice. Karash sighed as the exit came closer, the hold in the end of the tunnel getting brighter and brighter, the diamonds seemingly getting darker in comparison to the light of the outside ahead.

The three conscious troopers squinted as the group broke the threshold, light flooding around them from the setting sun across the water of what appeared to be a vast sea. But, before the whole of the sea was visible, a large mound sat before the group, stairs leading up to a plateau like surface.

The creatures began their trek up the steps that lead to the surface of the ceremonial mound. Chanting could be heard from indents in the mountains surrounding the area. Drums could be heard as well. Large drums, being played to the beat of the creatures’ steps at the ascended the stairs. The troopers looked on, up and ahead of them, dreading the idea of being trapped, and tied to these dammed poles.

Finally, the group reached the top. The drums ceased their rhythm. The Kaleesh slowly made their way to the center of the mouth, wear holes were made into the stone, big enough to hold up the poles that the troopers were tied to. With a few grunts, the poles were lifted upwards and stuck down into the holes. Now, the troopers were peering out into a vast valley, created by the mountains. Holes in the sides of the mountains held even more creatures with the same cat-like eyes. The large crowd… the smell of blood, the fear running through their veins.

The troopers were now left to the mercy of the whatever gods were going to devour them… that is if the others didn’t get there in time.

The Kaleesh were tall. That was the only thought Havock could muster as they striped them of their armor and ordered them around in a language she did not understand. When they spoke to Ron they used Basic, but this definitely was not their preferred language.

They tie them to poles, Hav's shoulders feel like they are going to tear from the sockets. The Kaleesh hoist them on their tall shoulders. Havock looked down at the ground, every bounce made her joints scream.

She knew it was all happening, but it felt far away. Like she was watching herself, from somewhere else. Her feelings were so logical, analytical. She knew she was cold and in pain. She could feel the sweat dripping from her forehead down her nose. She could see the ground, the Kaleesh, their spears. When she tried to feel it the panic threatened to take hold and she had to push that back, had to keep focused.

Taking a deep breath she noticed Jae. She looked like she might explode, “Jae… You need to calm down.” She tried to muster the sentence out without her voice shaking, and failed. Hav was scared, but more so she hated to see her friend like that.

Kahtosh immediately yelled right in Havock's face, “Quiet you filthy thing!”

I hope you enjoy shitting diamonds, after I shove that fucking helmet down your throat, you poodoo sucking piece of crap. Well that's what she thought, but all she did was turn her head back towards the dirt.

Ron was doing a good job of keeping everyone calm as the Kaleesh carried them towards the temple, to be sacrificed and eaten. Hope they choke on me the bastards. Then they hit Ron, knocking him out cold. Before Havock could even react Jae started thrashing against her restraints.

All of this was a bit too much. The world started to spin, the air became thick, her heart was pounding, she couldn't breathe. She could hear Karash talking but couldn't understand what he was saying. The only sound was the marching of the blood vessels in her brain. The sweat started to pour off of her, she couldn't swallow. She couldn't see the way out, couldn't imagine a way out. Her brain was locked in a pattern where the only outcome was bad, death. Time seemed to pass slowly. When she could look around without an overwhelming wave of nausea everyone around her moved in slow motion.

She could see the crowd ahead of them, waiting, at the temple. They chanted, yelled, she could hear drums. She put her head back down and concentrated on slowing her pounding heart.

If this messes anything up, let me know

Karash knew that they were not going to get out of this, they were tied to posts and surrounded by the Kaleesh high warriors that could probably take on the entire Imperial army; what chance did one squad have and that was only if the rest of the squad could find Karash and the others. He could hear the Kaleesh chanting and worshipping their gods, ready for the oncoming sacrifice.

“Don’t look so worried little thing, it’ll be over soon.” The Kaleesh just laughed at the now visibly scarred Karash.

Karash was panicking; he was shaking uncontrollably, sweating heavily and clenching his fists so tight that his hands could of broke; just as he was about to burst with fear and anger when Karash glanced over to the squad leader.

“Private,” Ron said quietly to Karash.

He did not have the power to say anything but just the reassurance of knowing that others were there helped Karash to pull himself together, however this was short lived because Ron was quickly hit over the head with a diamond incrusted spear. The SL panted for a moment before nothing, not a word; the little group had lost another person (temporarily) but losing the SL seriously dented all of their confidences.

“You… YOUR blood is going to be on MY hands.” Jae had exploded in rage but it did not provoke the Kaleesh as they were almost at their altar of sacrifice. They merely kept on walking.

Karash no longer cared about what was going on around him as now a wave of disappear once again flooded over Karash, Havock was staring down at the floor, Ron as still out cold and Jae was still pulsating with rage. Karash himself closed his eyes and began to wish if not pray that something would happen, anything would happen to save them. He opened his to see another tunnel sparkling with diamonds, there must be another way out because it was light, real light.

“There’s an exit up ahead…” Karash whispered his voice still full of fear.

Further more there was no one guarding this exit they had all gathered at the alter that they was approaching rapidly, Karash wiggled to see if he could get free but as soon as he moved the Kaleesh growled ferociously; there was no way of getting out….

The chanting and roars of the Kaleesh got even louder as the four troopers were brought up on to the platform, the priests taking their places and great statues being bowed down to. Great spears and swords made of diamonds were revealed and the Kaleesh began to roar even louder, now chanting words that could have only meant death.

Ron was still unconscious and the rest seemed to have given up any hope of survival. There was really only one chance that they had, the rest of the squad could escape from the Kaleesh attacking them and find their way into the runnel; all they could do was hope.

Andar Bacardi ran along with his rifle, Famus wasn't far behind him. Rogueboy and Grahim were lugging the heavy weapons and Namyr was covering the group from about half a mile away. The other group had been captured by the Kaleesh, the group had assumed that they were going to the vocalness: the dormant volcano. As Bacardi shoved his shoulder into a tree, he saw six Kaleesh scouts, merely walking around. Bacardi slowly slung his rifle over his back and made sure it crossed both shoulders. He then proceeded onto taking out his silenced IvP-18 Tropov Machine Pistol. Bacardi then pressed down his com.

"Rogueboy, Famus, get your silencers screwed on. Grahim, cover our asses, and Namyr... get the hell over here. Famus and RB, hit were their armor isn't visible." Bacardi got two clicks in about ten seconds later, confirming that the two understood and had their silencers on. One of the scouts began to walk towards Bacardi, observing the forest area around them. While the scout was looking the other way, Bacardi put the Kaleesh's neck in his sights. One shot flew out of his pistol, a silenced shot. Rogueboy and Famus put three more slugs into two other scouts. The remaining three scouts suddenly moved into a defensive position, crouching.

"Tango down." Famus reported as he rushed out into the open, two more scouts left. One of the scouts raised his rifle at Famus and Famus fired once, the shot grazed the Kaleesh and the other Kaleesh sudddenly picked Famus up and held him at knife-point. Rogueboy shot the last remaining scout that was not holding Famus hostage in the neck and Bacardi moved out into the open, pistol still raised. Bacardi's pistol shook as Famus' and the Kaleesh's head dodged in and out of his sights. Bacardi let two muffled shots out: one grazed Famus' shoulder and nailed the Kaleesh in the head, the other pushed Famus down on the ground and entered Famus' gut, a stray shot by Bacardi.

"Shit!" Bacardi screamed as he jumped to Famus, who was kneeling on the ground, bleeding like crazy. Rogueboy walked up behind Bacardi and slowly began to assess the situation, Rogueboy looked around and suddenly one of the bodies twitched. Rogueboy raised his rifle and put one silenced shot in the body.

"Arrogant ass... it just wouldn't die." Rogueboy muttered as he began to round up the bodies. "Wait, Gaz, we can't just stay here. And these sets of armor might let us get past the other Kaleesh scouts." Rogueboy said, Bacardi then reached down to his ankle and drew a Mynock Q33 Slugthrower. He then handed it to Famus, who accepted it. Suddenly Namyr came out of nowhere, sporting a Mynock as well. Bacardi then rounded the men up and started ina small whisper.

"We're leaving Famus here, we have to. Grahim: I need you and Rogueboy to go and set mines while the Kaleesh make a parade." Bacardi saw the group looking at Famus' soon to be limp body. Bacardi felt regret at that bullshit shot and just made a mental note to go back to the shooting range. "Namyr I need you to help me set up a fortified position. Also, we need to go pick up all the gear we left twenty feet back." Famus' body let out a small gargle. He was dead.

"Got it." Namyr said, cheerfully. She began to move off, similar responses came from the other two who set off as well. Bacardi holstered his pistol and set off with Namyr. The two ended up finding a small area overlooking a supposed Tribal area, a fallback point. The two began to set up large barriers with piles of wood and fallen trees. Bacardi and Namyr set out for more wood and five minutes later, they came back with huge piles of wood.

After the first section was made, and the sound of pounding feet was heard, Namyr began setting down more logs on another part of the small fortified encampment. Another part of the fortified encampment that was good was the fact that it was on top of a downhill slope. Any enemy scouts trying to get up this area would be spotted and shot. Covering fire would be easily done, but the only problem that they saw was the fact of picking out targets.

"Sir, this is Grahim. RB and I are trailing back, we suspect that the ceremony should commence in the hour." Grahim commed to Bacardi.

"Got it. Thanks, Namyr, I need you to set up these chainguns while I set up a small nest for covering fire." Bacardi moved over to another side of the encampment that hadn't been developed yet. On one side of the area was a large rock, and the other a small rock wall from god knows what. Bacardi slowly began to pile wood between the small rock wall and the large rock. He then began to lay more logs inbetween it and a solid area for someone to rest a rifle. "Namyr, status?"

"Everything is set up, what about the nest... wait, looks like shit." Namyr joked... even though it did look terrible. Bacardi took off his Whisper Subsonic Slugthrower Sniper Rifle and placed the tripod on the pile of logs. He began to adjust the scope to fit the needs of the shooter. Suddenly, the footsteps became more apparent and a giant crowd of Kaleesh showed up on the motion tracker. Two other stray dots were seen as well, most likely Rogueboy and Grahim. Bacardi, just to make sure, raised an M82-G Rifle, looked through it's scope and looked at the location that they dots were coming from.

"Rogueboy and Grahim, if you two don't get under more cover I will put two slugs in each of you before you can even do as much as raise your pistol." Bacardi joked, Rogueboy and Grahim were walking around in an open area, they both looked back and realized that the giant crowd was getting closer. They both sprinted towards the encampment and entered. Rogueboy immediately took one of the two chaingun emplacements that Namyr had set up, and Grahim just raised his rifle and took a knee. "RB, toss me your map."

"Sure thing." Rogueboy tossed Bacardi a small datapad with the locations of were they placed the explosives. The explosives were extremely well placed in areas that no one would ever find them. Bacardi motioned Namyr towards the sniper and he then took the other chaingun turret.

Minutes… the second to most simple symbol of time. It was moving so slowly. Going by, teasing with its fingers, grasping at the hearts of the four troopers that were tied to the poles. Those minutes, they grasped at their hearts and pulled, then let go slowly, laughing as they passed by. Sniggering at the troopers’ inevitable demise. These minutes… they were dragging by, laughing, screaming, jeering, poking, grasping. The troopers knew that these minutes would soon move by even slower once these ‘gods’ were summoned and were given the liberty of feasting upon the troopers.

Kahtosh, the high priest who had called for the troopers to be sacrificed in the first place, made himself seen by all by standing in front of the poles, and facing out towards the crowds that were within the mountains, and watching from the windows of limestone houses built out of the rock of the mountain sides. He looked out to the Kaleeshians, smiling, his diamond crusted teeth sparkling. His silhouette spreading out over the crowds at the foot of the mound, himself looking to a god with the light of the setting Kalee sun behind him and surrounding his body is an eerie glow.

“My brothers and sisters!” He yelled out in basic, which caused a confuse look to cross Karash’s face for a split second, Havock was too busy hyperventilating to notice her own language, and Jaenna was too busy thrashing and growling in her restraints. “Please bare with the fact that I am speaking in the aliens’ tongue! I am only doing this so that they, too can enjoy this wonderful… ceremony if you will before they are sacrifice to the great Dyxxclrysilous and Monomon!”

A wave of cheers and yells washed over the crowds of cat-like creatures. Their spears jabbing into the air, the drums beat a few times then ceased their rhythm. Kahtosh smirked down at his kin, and chuckled.

“Yes, yes! Celebrate! For the great gods shall finally be given a sacrifice they deserve!” The High Priest pointed behind him at the troopers, and snarled. “These… these aliens have desecrated the sacred rocks! And now they will be sacrificed to the our gods!” He threw his arms up in the air and let out a loud, drawn out low pitched scream of sorts.

The other Kaleesh joined in. Havock and Karash crinched and shut their eyes as the pain hit them like bricks. Jae on the other hand, just let out a roar, an evil growl, from deep in her throat. She thrashed her head about, snarling and growling. Havock and Karash continued to crinched, Havock letting out a soft whine. Ron was still just hanging there, his head slumped over, drool dripping from his open lips.

The Priest’s howl died down, and cheers once again erupted from the crowds surrounding the sacrifice mound. Kahtosh chuckled again and lifted his hands up in the air. “Bring on that celebration march!” More cheers.

“Celebration march… A fracking parade?” Havock questioned out loud.

Karash shrugged and shook his head, still trying to clear his eardrums of the pain that the Priest’s howl. “I guess… These things are pretty weird. What else can we expect?” He grumbled and looked out towards the top of the dormant volcano. His expression changed then. To something more confident. “Hav… Havock. Look!”

Havock growled softly and looked to where Karash was gesturing with his head. She too adopted that same expression as her eyes set themselves upon a plume of light colored smoke rising from the dormant volcano.

Karash chuckled. “RB’s initial explosives, the ones that caused the cave to collapse, must have shaken up the sleeping giant.”

Havock nodded, her bottom jaw dropping. Then, with a soft gasp, she looked over to Jaenna, who was still thrashing. “Jae. Jae! Look! We might have a chance! Come on… please calm down!”

Jae couldn’t hear her. The LCPL was still thrashing and snarling, drool and foamy saliva dripping from the corners of her mouth. It was no use. Jae’s eyes were glazed over, her body was drenched in sweat.

“Jae…” Havock sighed and shook her head. “Please just calm down-“

“Havock look!” Karash yelled out. He gestured towards a large crowd of what looked like flags and even more Kaleesh that were making their way through a large tunnel that lead out of the mountain. “That must be the parade…” He sighed.

Their death was coming ever closer.

"First explosive diagnostic check... check." Rogueboy reported. Rogueboy held the datapad that he had thrown at Bacardi earlier. Bacardi and Rogueboy both manned the chainguns and they both were adding more rounds to the rather large chain of bullets. Namyr kept on picking out targets... saying things about the targets and their physical qualities. Grahim took a knee and began to move over to a different side of the encampment. Grahim then began to reload his gun, over and over again, with the same clip; he was most likely working for speed.

"Grahim, when we begin the assault take up a rocket. After we stop shelling the shit out of them, switch back to your rifle to pick out the remaining targets." Bacardi ordered. Grahim moved over to the pile of supplies that the group had left. All they had were a few rifles, a few rockets, a few pistols, and even a few grenades. The food that they had brought was there as well, two cases of compacted food. Grahim picked up the rocket launcher and began to fumble with it, he then loaded the three rockets and took a knee again.

"Gaz, they are beginning the ritual it seems." Namyr reported from her Sniper Nest.

"Got it, RB, are the explosives in the vicinity of Ron and the others?" Bacardi asked.

"No, some fragments might hit them but 'no pain, no gain'." Rogueboy chanted. Bacardi cocked his chaingun and made sure the swivel worked, Rogueboy did the same. Bacardi then brought out a small detonator from his pocket, he popped off the safety and crossed his fingers. Bacardi waited for all the squad to nod to him: Grahim nodded, Rogueboy nodded, and Namyr nodded. Bacardi then nodded to himself in retrospect and moved his finger on his weapon's trigger, he also was ready to press the detonator. Bacardi bit on his lip as he pressed the detonator.

"Fire! Fire! Fire!" Bacardi screamed as he let fifty bullets out of his weapon. He held down the trigger and Grahim kept on shelling more and more rockets towards the enemy. Half of the enemy had disappeared with the explosives and the other half was running for their lives. Bacardi swiveled his chaingun to the left and to the right. More and more Kaleesh were gunned down. Grahim then switched to his rifle and began to fire at smaller targets.

"Incoming!" Namyr screamed as she let her sniper go and ducked for cover. One large rocket came towards the camp, the Kaleesh had probably collected it from their original camp. Rogueboy ducked just in time and half of the camp dissapeared... the half that didn't have their supplies in it.

"Lets move, Namyr cover our flank and get a different weapon." Bacardi and Rogueboy pulled out their weapons and slung the ammo over their shoulders. Grahim jumped over the barrier and began to slide down the hill that the enemy were advancing on. They were followed by Rogueboy, Bacardi, and Namyr. Bacardi put his chaingun to his shoulder and attempted to stop himself. Rogueboy fired, he was hitting the but of his weapon to his gut.

“Yes. Yes!” Kahtosh yelled as he watched the ceremony march approach the sacrifice mound. He smiled down at his followers, his yellowed teeth, pointed and diamond like, sparkling in the last reminisce of the setting sun. His cat like eyes peered down over the crowds. A malicious smile spreading across his lips. “Come to the sacrifice my friends! My brothers! My sisters! The great gods will feast!” As he said this, he lifted his arms to the sky and laughed, almost evilly.

Havock watched on, her breathing just as shallow and quick. Her hyperventilating was getting worse. Karash on the other hand seemed utterly lost for all hope of surviving. Their eyes were set on the approaching ceremonial parade of sorts. The Kaleesh were holding their flags high, swinging their spears about in fantastic shows of balance and accuracy. Karash sighed as he watched this, looking over to the still knocked out SL, then to Havock, who’s eyes were flickering about uncontrollably, panic obvious on her face.

“Havock… It’ll be over soon.” Karash said in a soft tone.

The panicking PFC scoffed and glared over at him. “Yeah! Great job! Way to help a girl out!” She said before looking back out over the crowds, to resume her heavy and quick breathing.

Karash shrugged then sighed again, deciding to look at Jae. He soon realized that was a bad idea. Her eyes were blazing with rage, foamy drool dripping from the corners of her mouth, growls and snarls erupting from her lips and throat as she continued to thrash about in her restraints.

“Jae… Come on… Doing that will only make it more painful…” Karash said soft to her.

Continuing to thrash about, Jae looked at him, a look that caused Karash to look away almost instantly, then slowly bring his gaze back to the burning inferno that was Jae’s. “I will end them.” She growled out slowly. A few more growls, and a little bit more thrashing, Jae threw her head back as much as she could against the pole, and let out a scream. Karash cringed, as the sound hit his ears. Then, within a few moments, the scream died down and Jae’s head slowly drooped, just as Ron’s was.

“Wh-what? Jae! Not you too!” Havock yelled before screaming herself, allowing the tears that had been building up at the rim of her eyelids to finally fall. “There… there really is no hope!”

Karash shrugged again and just nodded as she switched his gaze to the ground. The sounds of Havock’s sobbing causing him to want this to go all the faster.

“Yes!” Kahtosh yelled as, finally, the ceremonial march had reached the edge of the sacrifice mound. He looked down at the parade that had ceased all of their noise. All eyes were now on the priest. He was silent for a few moments, as he reveled in all of the attention. Then, he puffed out his alien chest and lifted a hand up. “My kin! I have called all of you here today! To witness the best sacrifice in so many years!” He pointed back towards the four troopers. “These… these disgusting aliens will be sacrifice to the great gods!” He smiled as cheers and drums made a wave over the crowds. “Now… Release the prisoners! And prepare them for sacrifice!”

More cheers. More drums.

Two Kaleesh walked up the mound and stood before Kahtosh. They were each helping to carry a large limestone block. Blood stains were obvious on it. A third Kaleesh climbed up to the mound and stood facing Kahtosh, this one carrying a jagged edged sword, an evil smirk across his lips. The two Kaleesh set down the limestone block, the third standing next to it.

Four Kaleesh approached the poles and began to untied their binds. Ron was caught by the scruff of his neck by a rather large Kaleesh. Havock and Karash were being held by another two different Kaleesh. Jae was the last one to be untied. Her limp body slump over as a Kaleesh allowed her drape over his shoulder.

A growl. A chuckle.

Jae’s head moved as she lifted it up. Her eyes shut, and her chest heaving slowly, as if trying to calm down. She chuckled again, and twisted her right hand into a fist. She brought it hard into the Kaleesh’s stomach that was holding her. With a sputter and cough, the Stumbled back and dropped his spear. With a swift movement, she bent down and picked up the spear, and drove it into the Kaleesh’s chest.  With a wet thock, she picked it out of his now dead and limp body.

Kahtosh stood there, an angry scowl spreading across his face. All of the other Kaleesh had their spears pointed at Jae. Havock and Karash were looking at her, amazed.

“Jae…” Havock whispered. The Kaleesh holding Hav tossed her to the ground and pointed it’s spear at her. Karash also hit the ground, a spear pointed at him.

Kahtosh chuckled at Jae, looking at her, amused almost. “Do you really think you’re going to be able to defeat me? All of my kin, as well? Ha! You insolent little alien!”

Lance Corporal Jaenna Caldwin chuckled again. “As a matter of fact…” Her grip tightened on her looted spear. Her eyes whipped open, the emerald now shielding a burning inferno of anger and rage. Her gaze was directed at Kahtosh, an evil smirk spreading across her pale pink lips. “I do.”

“K-kill them!” Kahtosh attempted to order. But it was too late, Jae had leaped at him, spear pointed at his alien heart.

Kahtosh dodged the first attempt, stepping to the side and stumbling slightly, lifting his own spear to defend himself against the raged trooper.

Havock had lifted a leg and kicked the spear that was pointed at her. She rolled and jumped up, spinning and bringing her heel against the side of the Kaleesh’s head. It went down and she picked up the spear that he had been holding. She stabbed him in the stomach and turned to the one that had Karash. She jumped into the air, yelling, aiming the spear at the alien’s head. But, the alien caught her side with the handle of his own spear, sending Havock flying to the ground. The PFC fell with a hard thunk and rolled, screaming in slight pain.

As the Kaleesh that was holding Karash turned to counter attack Havock, Karash had lifted a leg and kicked the thing in the chest, sending it stumbling backwards off the mound. As it fell, the Kaleesh dropped it’s spear, it landing just on the edge of the mound. Karash leaped for the weapon, and landed on his stomach, his hand grasping the but of the spear within a millisecond of the weapon falling.

He looked around, searching for Havock. She had gotten up and was handling her spear again, but was limping slightly as she made her way towards Karash. Then, her eyes widened. “Kar!” she yelled pointing behind the Private. “Ron!” Karash turned around and watched in terror as the executioner lifted his sword in the air, the unconscious body of the Squad Leader draped across the limestone block.

In seconds, Havock and Karash went to their SL, and stuck their spears through the Kaleesh’s back. The thing grumbled in pain and turned around, the spear still sticking through his chest. He lifted his sword to strike Karash, but Havock shifted her weight to one leg, and lifted the other one. With a yell she kicked out to the side, landing her kick in the Kaleesh’s chest. The thing fell back and dropped his sword, then rolled off of the mound.

Jae yelled and spun her spear around in circles, stepping towards Kahtosh with an evil glare on her face. The priest stepped back, holding his own spear and scowling at the human. “I can’t believe you are actually trying to defeat me, alien.”

“Oh… I’m not trying. I am going to defeat you.” Jae growled softly, as she lifted the point of her spear at his neck.

Kahtosh gulped and looked behind Jae, Karash was now approaching, Havock was tending to Ron’s body uncouncious body. The priest gulped again, now knowing that he was doomed. “My kin! Atta-” His voice was cut off by Jae’s spear driving itself through his throat. The priest fell… and the crowds released an angry roar.

Explosions, sparks, fire bursting vertically up from the ground.

All of this caught everyone’s attention, including the Kaleesh. The parade had been decimated by the rockets that had been fired into their ranks. Most of the limestone buildings where now destroyed and smoldering, on fire. Bodies of Kaleesh flew about and lay on the ground, bleeding and twitching. The eyes of everyone on the sacrifice mound just watched the carnage take place.  It was a spectacle to behold. The flames and the explosions, coming from a ridge on the mountain.

Havock, Karash and Jae looked up to the mountain. There, they saw where the attack were coming from. It was obvious that the rockets were coming from one of their own. But they weren’t saved just yet. The three troopers began to feel rumbling. They all looked at each other, and dropped their spears.

“Uhm… What’s happeneing?” Jae asked, her eyes now back to their normal emerald self.

“I think the mountain is about to get really… angry…” Karash tried to joke.

Havock gasped, and shook her head, grabbing the top of her hair and pulling slightly. “Now we are going to die! The volcano has been set off by all of the explosions!” she pointed to where the smoke had been coming from earlier. What was once ‘nice’ white whisp of smoke, was now black and heavy, filling the sky.

Sparks began to erupt from the center of the mountain. Soon, lava drops began to show themselves, popping up from the soon to be gaping volcano mouth. Then… it all went to hell.

The mountain erupted, sending streams of lava and rocky debris flying down the mountain side. Lava streams began to flow down, heading straight towards the crowds of Kaleesh that were still alive after the attack from the other half of RAIDERS. The lava flowed down the mountain reaching the beginning of the vast valley that held the sacrifice mound at the very end of it.

“Well… at least it’ll be a while before it reaches us. The mountain is far enough away that the lava should take about… ten minutes.” Karash once again tried to lighten the mood.

Jae and Havock both looked at him and scowled. “Shoosh” They said in unison.

“Kar… Can you go see if Ron has any other injuries?” Jae asked. Karash nodded and trotted over to the unconscious SL.

Havock and Jae stood there… watching the lava come towards them... wondering just what was going to happen next.

Havock stood next to Jae, looking at the stream of red lava that was heading down in their direction. Karash was tending to Ron, but it didn't look like he was going to be waking up any time soon. Havock couldn't help but think how fighting cleared ones mind. Tied to that pole she was scared to death, but as soon as they started fighting her mind was focused. Although she was still pretty sure they were going to die, she wasn't hyperventilating anymore.

Jae looked tired. She was still breathing deeply and her hands and arms were covered in Katosh's blood.

The group on the ridge were sniping the last of the Kaleesh. The fighting in Havock's immediate area had ceased with Jae stabbing Katosh.

Enough, Hav was not going to just stand there and wait for the lava to come. Tied up she was trapped, she was not trapped anymore. “We need to go.” Hav stated starring up at the ridge where the rest of the squad was making their way down towards them.

She turned to walk over to where Karash was with Ron, and accidentally put too much weight on her injured leg. “Ahh, Krif!” she yelled grabbing her thigh and hunching over.

Jae blinked a few times and seemed to snap out of whatever she was thinking. “You okay, Hav?”

“I'm fine.” Hav said a little too sharply. She straightened her posture, took a long deep breath and seemed to look up at the sky for a second before turning to Jae. “Sorry, I'm fine. We need to find our gear, our comms. We need to contact the rest of the group. Its going to take too long for them to get to us then move on. We should rendezvous somewhere away from here.” She ended each sentence abruptly, catching her breath and swallowing hard. She was obviously in pain.

“Yeah, I'll get them.” Jae walked off in the direction of their gear.

Havock turned to Karash. He looked up at her. “You want me to look at that leg?”

She shook her head. “No...not right now. Is he okay?”

He looked at her a moment, “He will be fine, should even wake up soon, but he's going to have an interstellar headache.”

Havock crossed her arms glanced again at the lava, “Can you carry him?”

Karash nodded, “Yeah.”

Jae walked up, looked at Hav and followed her eyes to the lava stream now half-way to their current position. “Got em'” She held up the comms.

Hav blinked and looked at Jae, as though she didn't know she was there. The truth was she didn't hear Jae approach. She was too busy thinking about what they had just managed to survive, and the fact that they might have a possibility of a chance to get off this furry rock, if Hav hadn't hurt her damn leg.  She would throw herself into the lava before she would let her leg cause anyone else to get hurt.

Deep breath, lets think positively shall we. Remember the lava is killing the forest, so we like the lava. Right?

She smirked at her own ridiculous thoughts. “We better move.” Before I completely loose my mind.

Grahim, Namyr, Bacredi and RB was firing on the kaleesh that had plans of sacrificing the rest of the squad. The kaleesh were getting killed by the lava that came out of the caverns and by the part that hadn’t been captured.

“Grahim, take a rocket and shoot on the roof to make it difficult for some kaleesh. So I and Namyr gets down there and get Ron, Karash, Jae and Hav up from there” Bacredi yelled to Grahim. Grahim wanted to help because the Raiders squad was the closest thing Grahim had to friends and family. Grahim fired away a rocket. The rocket twisted and hit a large pillar that fell over and spread chaos among the kaleesh but the cave lost some metres in ceiling height. Grahim thought that the Squad down there would die.

“Hata hata*, what has mesa done?” Grahim thought when he got a message on the radio.

“Bacredi here. There is a group of kaleesh warriors on the way up to your position so you might want to be prepared on a assault on you, Bacredi out” the radio crackled.

“Yousa the Chief RB, what do yousa want mesa to do?” Grahim said.

“I want you to take place over the door and be ready to fire on the kaleesh that will come” RB answered.

“Mesa no Fraidee frog**. Mesa want to fight and stand at the entrance not hide above it and use Fraidee frogs tactics” Grahim yelled at RB

“You are doing as I say. And you said it before im the chief” RB said. Grahim went up over the entrance and was angry but he decided to use that anger to his advantage. When Grahim almost was on the entrance he saw light. Then he went closer and pushed of some earth. Then he saw that there was a tunnel here that had been filled with earth but you could still crawl out.

“RB there isa a tunnel to the surface here” Grahim said.

“Great then we can use it to get out. Could you check were we are then?” RB said. Grahim crawled up the tunnel and found that it was that it was in the woods about 500 metres from their ship. Grahim crawled back down to find that RB was under attack from the kaleesh. Grahim shot down two kaleesh and started to fire upon a third one. Bacredi and Hav was attacking the kaleesh in the back when they came up the tunnel.

“Where is Karash, Namyr, Jae and Ron?” RB asked Bacredi just as Karash came up the tunnel carrying Ron on the back.

“Oh, never mind. Grahim were did you get up?” RB asked.

“About five hundred metres from our ship” Grahim answered

“Then lets go trough that tunnel” Bacredi said

“There is just one problem you need to crawl” Grahim said. Ron woke up lying on the ground.

“How do we get out?” Ron asked. Everyone looked at Ron with surprise. They still thought he was passed out on the floor. Grahim pointed on the tunnel. Grahim got back in the tunnel to secure the ground over the hole.

Havock stood, and grunted. Jae quickly went to her and gave her friend a hand in standing up. “I’ll be fine, Jae. Thanks though.” Havock said as she limped off towards the pile of their gear that Jae had set down near Karash and Ron. Sighing, Jae watched as Havock limped towards the gear to get all of her gear back on.

With a soft grunt, Jae just stood there, watching her friend. Thoughts of what Jae had just done, killed the high priest of the Kaleesh tribe, ran through her head with a ravaging speed. Only images, no sounds, was what she was thinking during those moments that she was standing still. Fear struck her then, what if Havock was now afraid of her? What if Karash was afraid of her? Jaenna sighed and ran a hand through her hair. She was just glad that Ron hadn’t seen what she was going through.

It was the first rage attack that she had had in so long.

Another sigh and made her way towards the others, who were already getting their gear back on, Karash was packing Ron’s in the back-pack like sack that Karash had brought with him. Havock was busy getting on her armor, and packing her weapons into the respective areas on her person. With another sigh, and shiver due to the sweat that was still running down her body from her rage attack, she knelt and began to pick through the pile of stuff.

Finally, she had found everything, and got back into the gear that she arrived on this annoying ass planet with. This including her Tuff-1 Combat suit and her viroblades.  With a grunt, she stood, and patted her armor and self off, smiling at the fact that she was now able to actually fight without the fear of getting stabbed or some stupid shit.

“Alright.” Jae said as she saw that the other two troopers were ready. “We need to head out, before the lava gets too close.” The others nodded and stood, Karash hefting Ron up on his shoulders again.

Karash grunted and looked out at the lava. “How are we going to get back to the others?” He asked as she sighed softly, shifting the SL on his shoulders to a more comfortable position.

Havock nodded at Jae, then gasped as she look out towards an area at the bottom of a mountain that she hadn’t seen before. She pointed to what looked to be a tunnel, so far untouched by the lava. “Look. We can head down there. But quickly, before the lava over takes that tunnel.”

Jae nodded along with Karash. Then, she squared her shoulders and nodded again. “Alright. Let’s get going. I’ll contact Gaz.”

The three trooped made their way down the back of the mound, so that they weren’t walking straight towards the lava. As they walked, Jae brought her wrist come to her mouth and clicked and held in a button. “Jaenna to Gaz. Come in.”

The com crackled for a moment, then the voice of the ASL came through. “Gaz here. Report.”

“Ron is out cold. Karash, Havock and I are okay though. Havock’s leg is hurt. We are going to rendezvous with you, then head to the base to get off of this rock.”

“Sounds good to me.” Gaz then seemed to turn his attention else. Jae could hear him talking to his half of the squad in the background. “Grahim, fire a rocket… give the Kaleesh trouble…” She could only gather small bits of it, but moments later, Gaz was once again back on the com. “We are up on a ledge about 3 klicks from your position. I can see you now.” Gaz said. Jae looked up to where the rockets had been, there she saw a very tiny version of the ASL waving with one arm high up in the air.

“Right. I see you. We will be there soon. I see a tunnel near that ridge, so I’m going to try and find a way through the tunnel circuits to you.” Jae said, sighing as she began to walk ahead of the group.

“Jaenna. Namyr and I will try to meet you on the way.” The ASL said softly.

“Alright, sir. Be careful. Watch the lava and debris.”

“Thanks, Jaenna. Will do. Gaz out.”

Jae sighed and stopped for a moment to turn and look at Karash to see how he was doing with carrying Ron. He seemed to be okay, though his face showed that he was straining lightly. That would be a given though. Carrying a twenty-some year old on your shoulders would be hard, especially if they were muscled as most men would be in the army.

Many minutes later, these minutes seeming like hours due to the constant crouching, dodging of fallen debris and small droplets of lava that were leaking through tiny cracks in the tunnel ceiling, Jae had said to the group, “Alright…  It should be only about… another… forty or so meters ahead-”

“Jaenna! It’s Gaz. I’m up here! Quickly. This tunnel is going to collapse soon!”

Jae looked up from her datapad and saw the form of her ASL standing about four meters away from her little group. She motioned for her group to go, and as quickly as they could, Havock and Karash went first, Jae trailing behind for protection since Havock’s ankle was hurt, and Karash was busy carrying the SL.

Jae was the last to come out of the tunnel, just before the entire thing collapsed, sending dust everywhere. She was crouching in the area they were all now in, she could hear the voices of her other squad mates, for her eyes were close because of the dust from the collapse. When she opened them though, she saw everyone, and smiled. She had heard just before she came out of the tunnel that there was an exit no too far away. She smiled again, the rage’s final flicker of flame dying down at the thought of getting the frack off of this dammed planet.

“How do we get out?” Ron had said. Jae gasped and knelt down next to her squad leader. She hugged him then.  Around the neck and gently. She honestly had no idea why she had hugged her SL, maybe because for the first time, she had actually been scared about losing one of her friends. Despite having only known Ron since this mission, she had grown to like his company. And she almost lost that… She released him from the hug when she he cleared his throat and stood up immediately.

“Erh… Sorry, sir. I’m just glad to see that you’re doing okay.” Jae mentally kicked herself for letting emotions get to her yet again during a mission. Already, she was pissed at herself for letting herself go into a rage attack. But that didn’t matter now.

Gaze spoke next. “Grahim said that there is an exit that leads up to the jungle. It’s only meters from out ship, too.”

Havock nodded slowly, and looked to Jae, as if asking if it would be alright. Jae shrugged and nodded back, not really knowing what to say. Ron, who was still laying on the ground, a confused look spread about his face because of the hug from Jae, grunted and shifted a bit, sitting up and running a hand through his messy hair, sending flecks of dried blood about.

“Sounds good to me. As long as we get off of this rock. Diamonds or no.” He stood then, but stumbled slightly, and Havock and Jae went right to him and allowed his arms to rest on their shoulders, them helping him to support his weight. “Ugh. Thanks, guys. Let get moving.”

Karash pulled his unconscious SL and rested him up against a wall whilst Karash gathered up his and Ron’s equipment; he was wandering how the hell they were still alive. It was not that long ago that they were tied to a pole and about to be executed by a diamond clad war chief, the events kept appearing as mental images as Jae appeared to explode in rage. Karash had slung his rifle over his shoulder and placed his pistol in its holster it was then Jaenna began to speak, still appearing to be overcoming her outburst of rage.

“We need to head out, before the lava gets too close.” Jae said.

“How are we going to get back to the others?” asked Karash.

He did not know who he was asking because at the moment the way they had come was flooded with lava and a few of the other exits were either caving in or swimming with lava. Karash was very uncomfortable with the SL on his back; Karash was not built for such things and was getting in an increasingly bad mood.

“Look. We can head down there. But quickly, before the lava over takes that tunnel.” Havock pointed out a small tunnel on the other side of the hall.

Jaenna began to communicate with Gaz, Karash was surprised that all of the squad were still alive from what he heard that might not be the case for much longer. The group made their way along the tunnel like a group of refugee’s, Havock limping, Karash carrying an unconscious squad leader and Jaenna having to alert them when any debris was going to fall.

“This tunnel is going to collapse soon!” shouted a familiar voice.

This was all Karash heard and this was all that he needed to hear, he started to move even faster even with the SL still on his back. As he came to the end of tunnel he basically through the SL off his back and dove onto the floor, he was quickly followed by Havock and Jaenna. Karash began to cough as the dust from the fallen cave poured into the area but none the less he and the small group of Raiders had managed to cheat death once again.

“How do we get out?” Ron wheezed.

“Oh great, you couldn’t have woken up any earlier?” Karash said louder than he had planned but everyone was distracted by Jae hugging the newly awake SL.

For the first time Karash took in his new surroundings and he was now surrounded by the rest of the squad; some of them were still holding off Kaleesh warriors. As they discussed how they were going to get off this disaster of plant back to the safety of the Imperial barracks Karash pulled his self up and straightened him out.

“Sounds good to me. As long as we get off of this rock. Diamonds or no diamonds.” Said Ron.

The SL stood up and began to sway, giving the appearance he was drunk but Jae and Havock grabbed and steadied him. They were then given the order to pack what ever they had up and get moving.

“Grahim where is the exit?” asked Gaz.

“Itsa just over theresa.” Said the Gungan pointing in the direction.

“Are you sure this the way out!” Ron said with a lot of authority in his voice, the Gungan nodded.

Karash looked at the Gungan and said “You’d better be right.”

The squad began to make their way to their escape with the sound of murderous Kaleesh behind them they moved just a little faster.

The forest air was musty. Havock looked out into the forest in the direction Grahim was pointing as he spoke to Gaz. The dust from the cave-in was settling leaving a metallic smell that tickled her nose. Everyone had made it through the cave, even Jae who had stayed behind her and Karash as they ran to get out.

The running was what caused the current sensation Havock was trying to block from her mind right now. When Jae said to run Havock didn’t think she just took off, she made it out of the cave to the spot she was standing. Then the pain hit her, a throbbing pain all the way up her leg radiating from her ankle.

She just kept focusing on the trees, trying to keep herself in check, trying not to just curl up on the floor and cry like a toddler who got kicked in the shins. The camp is meters away, meters, you got this far.

Jae said something. Hav turned to her, not really hearing her she just looked at her wearily.  Jae shrugged and nodded. Confused, numb and annoyed at a persistent buzzing sound in her ears, Havock turned back towards the trees.  Ron was awake now, and was that Jae hugging him? God I hope I’m not hallucinating right now. He started to get up; we will be moving again soon, time to get ready.

Taking a few deep breaths while she could she turned to look in Ron’s direction. As he came to his feet, he stumbled. Without thinking, Havock went to his side, grabbing his arm to keep him upright.  Jae grabbed his other side. “Sounds good to me. As long as we get off of this rock. Diamonds or no diamonds.” She heard Ron say.

Havock kept her face turned away from her SL. She flushed red and started breathing hard. The movement sent waves of pain cascading through her ankle, up her leg. It was all she could do not to scream. Ron must have noticed. He took his arm off of Havock’s shoulders, leaning on Jae for a moment before standing on his own. Ron looked at Hav, “Private.”

Havock, still looking away, turned her head to look at Ron. Her face was still red, she swallowed hard praying her voice didn’t crack. “Yes, sir.”

“Stand on that leg, just that leg, right now.” He was pointing at her injured leg.

She thought about it for a second, then lifted her good leg slowly off the ground. She managed about five inches before she winced, yelped and fell on the ground.

Ron just shook his head and turned to Jae, “I can make it to the camp, please make sure Havock makes it there too. “ Turning, he made his way towards the camp.

Havock looked up at Jae, who was crossing her arms and shaking her head at Hav with a look somewhere between worry and amusement.  With a sigh Havock raised her arm in Jae’s direction, who took it and helped Hav to her feet. Jae put Hav’s arm around her shoulders and they started down the path after the others.

“Thank you.” Hav said, as she limped along the path.

With Havock now on her shoulder, and Ron walking by himself, LCPL Jaenna Caldwin began to make her way through the forest, following the others. Havock winced now and again, causing Jae to make sure that she shifted her weight in a certain way that would help Havock get onto her good leg better. Havock whimpered and looked ahead, her eyes longing for the comfortable seats in the ship. The two girls saw it and both of them seemed to speed up a bit, Jae running, almost dragging Havock along, but making sure to still be careful.

Ron was a bit ahead of them, Karash was ahead of Ron and the others were almost to the ship themselves. It was only a few meters away. Kaleesh were chasing them. Jae could hear them. A few spears even flew by them and landed in the forest ground, stick out of the soft soil.

With a grunt, Jae dodged to the right as she heard the whistle of another spear coming at her. Havock yelped softly as Jae moved. Havock was on her left arm. Jae hadn’t move far enough though, and the spear grazed her arm, actually cutting through the Tuff-I combat armors material due to the diamond tipped spear head. She yelped and almost dropped Havock but grunted and gritted her teeth as she picked up speed and shifted to help Havock walk faster.

“Jaenna! Havock! Come on!” Jae heard Ron yell as he was standing half way up a rather large hill. Jaenna could see the others behind the SL, running towards the ship.

Pain. Searing pain struck her like a thousand D-14 Blaster pistol bolts at once. She fell, dropping Havock, who rolled to the edge of the boarding ramp. Ron gasped and called for Rogueboy to come out and help Havock up the hill. RB came running down the hill and picked up Havock, cradling her in his arms and sprinted back up the hill, looking back at Jae with a worried look.

Ron ran down to Jae as fast as he could, hobbling a little bit due to his obvious concussion. He knelt by her and looked at her leg. Jae was writing in pain, the spear still embedded into her calf. “Geeze. Come on, Jaenna. We gotta go.” He said in a soft voice, authority still riddling his tone as he helped Jae up onto his shoulder.

The Kaleesh behind them screamed in their native tongue as they threw more spears. One grazed Ron’s side. He grunted but ignored the pain as blood began to dribble out of the slice. Another one grazed his opposite hip. Again… he only grunted, and kept moving.

“Sir… You’re hurt.” Jae said softly as she winced from the pain of the spear still being in her calf. Her SL grunted and kept running as best as he could.

“I don’t care. We gotta keep moving. We need to get to off of this krifin rock.”

Jae just nodded and winced again.

"My first mission..." Ron thought to himself.  He hiked slowly along the trail through the woods, holding one hand on his throbbing head, the other grasping roots and ferns as he pulled himself along.

"And I failed..." Ron thought.  He felt utter shame at that.  He knew that the Stormtrooper Corps had no room for failure, had no room for anyone to report back to headquarters as being "Unable to complete the mission".  Strength, and honor; and honor that comes only through strength, is what the service required.  Not this weak and petty failure, this inability to preform.  Ron had to be strong, he couldn't afford to fail; he needed to win for himself, for the empire, and also for his own troopers.

Ron stumbled and fell on the ground, in doing so sending waves of throbbing pain back into his head.  He fell to his knees and hung his head back in impatience, with himself and the mission.

"Screw the diamonds." he thought to himself.

Then again... what about those diamonds?  Ron felt in his pockets for any of the precious gems that they were meant to retrieve; hardly any left.  He pulled out one, about this size of the nail on his little finger.  It was dirty and imperfect, hardly reflecting the sun at all due to the black coal in which he had rested in for millions of years.  He threw it away in disgust.

"Screw the diamonds."

Was it his fault that they failed?  They landed with hardly any difficulty at all; staying away from major cities and areas of dense population, they made it to the canyon in the caldera without any problem at all...

No.  There was that time... that time when Rougeboy saw something.  Was it a Kaleesh warrior, or was it just an animal?  It couldn't have been an animal...

Ron shook his head.  It wasn't his fault, there were too many of them there were too many barbarians.

Hah.  Barbarians.  Easy kills.  Even a trainee could take down a few Kaleesh warriors, given the right equipment.  But a full fledged squad?  And Raiders no less?  Those Kaleesh should have been wiped out, should of been killed off, should have been no problem.  But they were a problem, and more than that, they were the reason why Raiders failed.  They were the reason why Ron failed.

Those damned Kaleesh!  Damned barbarian natives!  Ron closed his eyes as the revelation finally dawned on him.  They ruined him!  His reputation (whatever he might have had) was shattered, if non-existant.  His life was ruined, promotion unlikely.  He would remain a Squad Leader for the rest of his life, until he was too old to carry on.  Perhaps he wouldn't even have that chance.  Perhaps he would be removed from his position altogether.

Ron wanted to think that all was not lost; that perhaps the empire will dole out a kind, yet stern reprimand.  Perhaps there will be another chance.

But could Ron succeed after failing this first, crucial mission?  Could he earn back whatever reputation he lost?  Ron wasn't sure.

They approached the ship, and nearly arrived too late.  For as Ron rounded the hill before they came to the ship he found that their mission almost landed in absolute failure.  For the ship was not as they left it, it were hanging off the side of a tall drop; and was being pushed slowly over the side by several angry Kaleesh warriors.

Ron pulled out his D-11 pistol and shot one center in the chest, causing him to fall backwards.  As he ran he yelled, he hated these Kaleesh for ruining him.  Behind him he could hear his squad running after him, shooting their own weapons and fighting their own mini battles.  Ron turned to kill another, but he was shot dead by Gaz; turned on one to his left, but he was killed by Havock.

Now angry, lustful for revenge and to kill something anything, Ron threw himself upon one last Kaleesh with his rodian knife... hacking the poor creature to pieces, and bloodying the earth and himself while he did it.  It seemed like anger at first, but soon it started to appear like lunacy.

"Ron..." Havock started.

"Hey, hey!" Gaz said.  "It's dead alright, you've got him... just... no more alright?"

Ron ignored them and continued slicing away.  The corpse no longer resembled a Kaleesh male.

"Look, just stop!  We have the ships, let's get out of here!" Jae said.

Slice, slice, slice... hack, hack, hack.

"STOP!" They all said together.  Gaz rushed down and grabbed Ron's arm.  Ron turned and pointed the dagger straight at Gaz's face.  For the first time since leaving the ceremonial mound they say their squad leader awake.  But it was not like before the mission, Ron was no longer calm.  His blue eyes were bloodstained, in fact, his entire face was bloodstained and splattered with blood and hair.  Ron's eyes narrowed and he pressed his knife down harder towards Gaz.

"Ron, SIR, it's me Gaz... it's alright... there's no more."

Ron looked around at the carnage, and then at the corpse below him.  He lowered his knife, and then blinked as if he had been in a dream. Then he wiped his face with his arm, and replied with a groan, saying in a deep and tired voice.

"No more you say?"

Gaz and the rest shook their heads.  Some of them were backing away slowly.

"Well then..." Ron sniffed.  It was clear he was still dazed.  "We'd better get going.  That volcano won't wait for us..."

He picked himself up and walked over the the ship that was hanging off the edge.  Gaz got onboard and backed them up onto firm ground and safety.  The squad gathered round Ron, who was swaying back and forth as he stood, almost sickly in appearance.  Once Gaz was out, Ron stepped onto the ship, leaving a bloody hand print on the side of the ship as he did so.

Jae looked at Havock.  Havock looked at Karash.  Karash looked at Rogueboy, and Rogueboy just shook his head.

"Have you ever seen something like that?" Jae whispered.

"Is Ron... crazy?" Havock said.

"Whatever he is..." Gaz said in reply.  "He's right about one thing, we gotta go."

Everyone looked at the burning sensation behind them and quickly started to board the ship.  Whatever just happened back there; none of them wanted to deal with it at the moment.  It was like a bad dream that none of them wanted to relive.  It was something that they would always remember their squad leader by.  First impressions are important.  And this one... well, this one could only be described as shocking.
