If it's a personal site of yours, then whatever advertisement on your site is up to you. Advertising on your own site is perfectly fine (and would bring more traffic  )

I had an idea. We could get a group of writers together and write a fic for a topic (SW, Halo, Matrix, etc en absurdeum). We would then make a Fanfiction.net account called "Vast Empire", post the fics, and mention where these fics came from...There's a lot of talent among the hacks on fanfiction.net. Just a thought... We could also copy old competitions, have a community edit to make them better reads and the right format for the site, and post them with an invitation to join and a URL...Sure, we'd get a lot of the doofues that create the trash filling the boards, but there is a lot of talent out there...
