Sam was born on the Zabrak homeworld of Iridonia. His parents gave him the name "Eeth Zur," which when translated into Basic means "Fearless insect that is renowned for its speed and hard to kill." Sam's father was very skilled hunter. In the eyes of the Empire and Rebellion, he was a Bounty Hunter. Sam's father began to teach Sam all about what he did at a very early age.

Sam had learned to fire blasters with great accuracy in only a few months. His father was surprised at the speed in which he was learning. Sam's melee skills surpassed his fathers with only five months of training. Sam's father was quite proud of his son.

After ten years, his family moved to Lorista. Lorista is one of the eight colonies that the Zabraks had made. They left into space quite early for the age of their species. Once his family arrived, they settled into one of the clans in the colony. They did not know that Lorista was a very violent colony.
A period of six weeks had passed and Sam and his family were enjoying their new home. The following week one of the other clans on the colony attacked the city Sam and his family lived. All of the strongest and most skilled Zabraks were called to defend their homes.

Sam and his father suited up in their armor and grabbed their favorite weapons. Sam with his modified Hold Out Blaster and his father with his DL44-Metal pistol, they headed to the front lines. The fighting could be heard all around the city. Brilliant flashes of light could be seen through out the sky in the night. As Sam and his father neared the battle front, Sam and his father split up.

Sam ducked behind a barrier and wished his father the best, even though he couldn't hear him. He leaned out and shot three times. He hit two of the invading Zabraks in the head shattering their helmits and splattering their heads backwards. The third hit on in the chest. The shot caved in the Zabraks chest and sent him tubbling face forward.

After eight days, Sam's clan had fended off the invasion. The battle lines were littered with the corpses of Sam's friends and clanmates, along with the many more bodies of their enemies. After aiding his wounded comrades to a near-by medical center, he headed home. He found that his father had returned with only a minor hit to his left hand, which eventually cause his had to loose all feeling.

It was many years before another attack happened, yet when the next one came Sam had left the colony to seek out more thrills. Sam took on the name, Sam McSandwich, after leaving his colony and stopping on Corellia. Many of the locals, could not pronounce his true name. Sam took the first name, Samuel, because it was a strong name in his eyes and the last name, McSandwich, for he found it an amusing name and it stuck.

Sam, eventually, became much like his father. He became a hunter and sought out people who had been marked. He did not do it for the credits but more for the thrill of a battle. He, like his father, had become viewed as a bounty hunter by the Rebellion and the Empire. He disliked being called a 'bounty hunter.' He found the title a disgusting insult. He believed bounty hunters to be scum that killed for money. A hunter, in his eyes, was someone who sought out people who are strong and could put up a good fight, which is exactly what he did. Some people thought Sam was raised by Manalorians due to his skill, aggressiveness, and the way he picked his challenges. Others thought he was mentally corupted by the dark side of the force. There were many things that people thought, yet none were even close.

Eventually, Sam became bored in searching for a good challenge and decided to join the Empire. He hoped that the missions they would send him on would be even more thrilling than the people he killed before. He wanted something like the battle on Lorista, without having to go back. So, Sam was placed in the Dark Dragoons after his enlistment. So far, the Empire has yet to let him down in his thrill seeking and they better not because Sam, like many Zabraks, had a distaste for the Empire due to prior history with them.
